you write with the fire and passion of Jacqueline Carey herself. I think perhaps you've made melisande the slightest bit too cruel, but your Phedre more then makes up for that

Holy Christ!... Oh no, excuse me... I meant Holy Elua!
I discovered Kushiel's Trilogy a few months back near the end of 2005. It was the front cover of Kushiel's Dart that caught my eye. I was reluctant to buy it because it's very hard for me to get into fantasies ---I tend to be a Hard SF kinda gal--- but I went ahead, took a chance, and bought it. It blew my mind. I had almost no idea where the story was going for most of the book ---I would say up until Selig's steading when Phedra tells Jocelin they must survive and warn Terre D'Ange of his plans--- then finally, I was like "okay, I'm starting to grasp the plot, here." After finishing "Dart," I went right back to the book store and bought the sequels. The greatest surprise to me was how all the stuff Delauney had been teaching Phedra and Alcuin came together and we actually got to visit La Serenissma and much much more. Book three was just as mind-blowing, although part of me has wished for there to have been a couple more novels in between that time ---or afterwards--- could have taken us farther across Carey's alternate Earth. Like to west, south, and east Africa, the Middle East, and China... then maybe even Australia and the Americas. Man, that would be so cool.
Anyway, I've gotten off track here. Basically, I just wanted to say that I was thrilled when I noticed the Kushiel Trilogy as a fanfiction category on this site and even more thrilled when I noticed the presence of at least one story. And I wasn't dissapointed by it at all. A lot of fanfiction that involves sex just throws the characters right into bed together, but I loved the way you followed Phedra on her trip and how you included the foreplay in the garden.
I personally believe that Shakespeare's tragedies could and should be replaced by Carey's Kushiel series in schools. Okay, maybe it would be a bit graphic, but it sure as hell would have been a lot more interesting.
I feel that your fic nailed the language of Kushiel and the voice of Phedra dead on. Her and Imriel and Melisande all act within character, but with the growth that can be expected after a year/ several months of passage. When you had Jocelin go off to pray, I thought he was acting rather book two, but then he came back and talked with Phedra and that made me trust your story more. It was at that point that I stopped looking for grammatical errors and character dismemberment and just sat back to enjoy the story.
I'm not sure when you first posted this or when you last made an update, but its Saturday, February 11, 2006, 11:30 pm here in Texas AND I SERIOUSLY NEED AN UPDATE! No pressure though:)
I love this series... I dabled once with my own piece of Kushiel fanfic once. I kind of rewrote the ending to the third book, starting with the part where Ysandre demands Phedra to remain within the city of Elua until winter has passed. It annoyed me that Phedra accepted this so easily, especially considering all that she and Jocelin and Imri had gone through in Darsanga, so I wrote a few random scenes where Phedra refuses and a beavy of consequences ensue. I have no idea where the story is now ---sorry, if my mention of it piqued your interest--- because I had no idea there was a site like this for me to post it on.
I keep re-reading the books and thinking "this is the adult-erotica equivalent of Harry Potter" or "this is better than Dune," so where's the damn movie? Where's the damn TV show? But, of course, I know they'll never make a TV show out of Kushiel ---too much sex!" And naughty sex at that. But that hasn't stopped me from imagining it as a television show on cable or something. Ah well...
I really liked your story. PLEASE, FOR THE SAKE OF NAAMAH, POST SOON!

"What sort of anguisette wishes for no harm to befall her?" I loved that line. I think you really did well in keeping the same voice in your story from the original. I've read some other Kushiel fanfics and they're not loyal to the characters. I haven't finished the third book yet, so I don't know if there are some developments I don't know about, but I really enjoyed the way you turned Pherdre into the one giving out the pain. Letting her have a taste of control. I eagerly await for more! Please continue!

I love that you've sticked with the style the books were written in. The scenes seem like they really could be part of the books. I really hope you update soon.

Lovely fic so far. I loved the Kushiel's Legacy trilogy. I wish more people read it. Anyways, I've no complaints for this, other than a few words that could be changed so that the syntax was more like that of the books, but other than that, nothing. You've kept the characters nicely in character, which is sometimes hard to do. Kudos. +++++ - Jen

Very well written and definatly in Carey's style. It's a shame that it hasn't been updated in so long. I'd love to see you write more!
