Disclaimer: I do not own Peter Pan, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
A/N: Please Read!!! Yes, I know Mrs Darling's first name is MARY, not Melis I p I purposely changed her name so that it would fit the soundtrack song, "Could It Be Magic", where Barry Manilow sings to "Sweet Melissa". This is just a bit of creative license and is not meant to offend fans of canon in any way. And, who knows? Perhaps Mary's middle name was Melissa. Thank you for not flaming.
__________
Wendy Darling heard a rustling above her head and looked up in anticipation. Peter was back early, she supposed. Maybe he’d changed his mind aouldould now let her go home. She hated being cooped up here in Peter‘s hideaway. Her face fell visibly when she saw Captain James Hook drop down into the small chamber.
“Sorry to disappoint you, my dear,” Hook said. “You were expecting someone else, hmm?”
“What are you doing here?” she asked, a note of fear in her voice.
“You left my ship so suddenly,” he replied, his expression that of mock concern. “And just when we were having a such a good time, too.’ Looking around the room carefully, he added, “And after you were gone, I noticed that several valuable items were missing from my cabin.”
“I didn’t take anything of yours,” Wendy said, backing away slowly.
“I know that,” Hook said. “But Pan or one of his band of unwashed urchins did. And I intend to recover my property by any means possible.”
“Maybe I can help you find it,” Wendy said. “If you tell me what it is, I can help you look.”
Hook looked at her with eyes narrowed in suspicion. “Why would you want to help me?” he demanded. “After all, I am the enemy of your precious Pan.”
“Peter hasn’t been very nice to me lately,” she admitted slowly. “I wanted to go back home and let my parents known that my brothers and I are safe, but he wouldn’t let me go.”
“Pan always was a selfish one,’ Hook pointed out. “He wants you all for himself, I’m afraid. He doesn’t want you to grow up and leave him behind.”
“If I help you get your things back, will you go and tell my parents I’m alive?” Wendy asked Hook, gazing up at him with beseeching eyes.
He turned away from her to consider her request for a long moment. “I will,” he said finally, “if you will return to my ship to be part of my pirate crew, after I’ve seen your parents” Looking intently at the girl, he added softly. “I might even be persuaded to allow you to return to your parents for a few years before you join my crew.” An older Wendy would be infinitely more suitable for the position he had in mind for her: Captain’s Woman.
“I agree.” After all, what other choice did she really have?
________________
A short time later, Hook was back in his cabin aboard ship, changing his clothes for the trip to England. After hurriedly searching through his extensive wardrobe, he selected black breeches and boots, with a rich black velvet jacket with hunter green trim. As he finished buttoning the jacket, a knock came at the door.
“Come in!”
Smee entered silently with Hook’s dinner.
“Set it over there,” the younger man said distractedly, pointing to the table. Turning to his second in command, he continued, “I’ll be gone most of the night, so I want you to keep the crew in line while I’m gone. Don’t tell them I’m not aboard.”
“Yes, sir.” Smee knew better than to ask Hook where he was going.
Indicating a large bag of jewels strewn carelessly on his bed, he said, “Lock those up right away. After all the trouble I took to get them back from Pan, I don’t want them to get stolen again.”
“Yes, sir.”
II
Melissa Darling paced the nursery for what seemed the thousandth time since the disappearance of the children. Going from bed to bed, she compulsively smoothed bedspreads and plumped pillows, as if expecting the children at any moment. Moving on to the dresser, she picked up and idly
examined toys, imagining they’d just been discarded moments before.
“Come to bed, Melissa.” George Darling stood in the doorway. “You won’t bring the children back any faster depriving yourself of sleep.”
She moved away from her husband to sit in the rocker which sat near the open window. “I can’t stand just sitting here doing nothing when I have no idea where my children are or what’s happened to them.”
“I know.” He moved to stand behind her, patting her awkwardly on the back.
“Why don’t you go out and look for them,” she pleaded. “You’re their father, after all!”
“That’s a matter for the police to handle,” he said, turning away from her. “They are trained for it and for the danger it entails. It wouldn’t do you or the children any good if I were to be killed by the kidnappers, if, indeed, I were lucky enough to find them.”
Just a moment before, Hook arrived at the Darling home, buoyed up by fairy dust. Before leaving Neverland, he’d captured Tinkerbell and now had her imprisoned in his jacket pocket. Carefully peering into the nursery window, so that the Darlings wouldn’t see him, he overheard their conversation.
James Hook inhaled sharply at the sight of Melissa Darling seated in a rocking chair, clad only in a thin nightgown. She was an ethereal angel; Wendy, all grown up. He was suddenly aware of an uncomfortable tightness in his breeches and knew that he had to have her, no matter the cost. And, after hearing the Darlings’ conversation, he knew precisely how he would go about getting her into his bed.
He’d heard it said that the only way to be able to break completely free of Neverland was to perform a heroic deed for someone else. Certainly, returning Wendy and her brothers to their home would qualify as such an act. His decision made, he dropped down onto the window sill and quietly stepped inside.
Melissa Darling glanced up at hearing the muffled thump as Hook stepped inside the nursery. Her eyes traveled up from a pair of shiny black boots planted confidently on the sill, up a pair of black-clad muscular legs, to be finally arrested by a pair of intense ice blue eyes, framed by long, dark curly hair. Only belatedly did her eyes register a vicious metal claw where his right hand should be, gleaming in the soft kerosene light.
“W-who are you?” she almost whispered. Her breathing had become shallow and erratic at the sight of this intimidating, yet magnificently handsome man.
“He’s one of the kidnappers,” George Darling said, having backed to the safety of the doorway. “Isn’t that obvious?”
Ignoring the other man as if he wasn’t even there, Hook replied softly, “Captain James Hook, at your service.” The pirate jumped off the sill, landing in the room with a slighloudlouder thump.
“Are you one of the kidnappers?” Melissa asked timidly.
“No,” he told her. “But I know where your children are.”
“Will you help us bring them home?” she asked, her eyes pleading.
“I will,” he said, his eyes locked with hers in an intense gaze. “For a price.”
“He’s trying to swindle us,” George Darling whined. “I’ll bet he doesn’t even know where the children are.”
Returning Hook’s gaze, she whispered, “What is the price?”
Grinning malevolently, he replied, “You, my dear. In exchange for bringing your precious little ones home safe and sound, I will claim you as my prize." He reached down and slid his hook suggestively over the curve of her breast to emphasize his point.
Melissa trembled, both afraid and aroused by him. Looking into the pirate’s mesmerizing eyes, she suddenly realized just what she’d been missing from her marriage all these years. Narrowing her eyes, she sat up straighter. “Yes,” she said firmly. “I agree to your terms.”
Leaning over her so that his long hair brushed seductively over her cheek, he took her chin in his hand. “Are you sure, my dear?” he asked his voice almost a purr. “Once you agree, you cannot back out. If you did, I would kill your children and just take what I want, anyway.”
Moving his face closer, his mouth covered hers possessively. Taking his time, he was gratified when her mouth finally opened to admit his probing tongue. After a long, unhurried kiss, he stepped back, knowing he’d thoroughly awakened her passions. A meaningful look passed between them, as both instinctively realized the magic between them, both oblivious to George‘s impotent sputtering in the background.
“I’m sure,” she said, trembling again. “Very sure.”
Turning away from her, Hook quickly stepped up to the window sill. Looking over her shoulder, “Until then, my dear.”
Melissa stood staring out the open nursery window for a long time after Hook had disappeared into the night.
III
Hook slept for several hours after returning to the ship. As soon as he awakened, he slipped on a pair of breeches and waited for Smee to arrive with his breakfast.
The older man arrived a few minutes later bearing a tray. After quietly setting it down on the table, he turned to leave.
“Sit down, Smee,” Hook instructed. “I have a job for the crew and I might as well tell you the details as I eat.”
The first officer obeyed without a word, waiting for Hook to speak.
After taking a few bites, Hook said, “Get the men ready to make a raid on Pan’s hideout. We’re going to take back the Darling children and return them to their parents.”
“Take them back to their parents?” Smee couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “What on Earth for?”
“Are you questioning my authority?” Hook demanded as he poked Smee in the chest with the tip of his claw.
“N-no, of course not!”
“I didn’t think so,” he said smoothly. “Now, as I was saying, I’ll want you and a group of the strongest men you can find to concentrate on distracting Pan and also grabbing the two Darling boys and bringing them back to the ship.”
“What about Wendy?”
“I’ll take care of her myself.” Hook rose from the table to finish dressing. “Tell the men to be ready to move out in half an hour.”
“Aye, aye, sir.”
___________
It proved to be surprisingly easy to take the Darling children back from Pan’s group of hooligans. While Smee and a group of young, fleet footed pirates had led Pan and the Lost Boys on a wild goose chase, a couple of the men had hung back and grabbed the Darling boys as they trailed behind Pan’s boys. While his men lured Pan and his gang away, Hook slipped quietly into the boys’ hideout to get Wendy.
“You’re back!” Wendy said as Hook dropped down into the room from above. “Did you see my parents?”
“Yes, I did,” he told her. “And I’ve come to take you home to them.”
Wendy looked up at the pirate wide-eyed, disbelieving. “I thought you said I had to be a member of your pirate crew.”
“Things have changed a bit,” he said, his face taking on an expression Wendy couldn‘t decipher. “I’ll be making other arrangements.”
“What other arrangements?” she asked, now totally confused.
“Never mind that for now,” he said, his irritation growing. “We need to hurry. Pan will be back here shortly and I want you out of her before then.”
“All right,” she said. “I guess this is my only chance to get home”
________________
A short time later, the pirates had all returned to the Jolly Roger, all three Darling children accounted for. The pinks and purples of impending dusk were stealing across the sky by the time Hook had escorted Wendy and her brothers into his cabin. Smee and a young pirate bearing a tray of food came in a few moments later.
Turning to the children, Hook said, “Sit down and eat. You’ve got a bit of a journey ahead of you tonight.”
The two boys looked up at Hook fearfully, having no idea of what was going on. Wendy, took them in hand, leading them to the table.
“Hush,” she said. “It will be all right. We’re going home!”
“Really and truly?” John asked.
“Really and truly,” Wendy confirmed.
Reassured, the boys sat down with no further ado and began to eat.
Hook stepped out into the corridor, beckoning for Smee to follow.
“I’m going to be leaving the Jolly Roger for awhile,” he told Smee, once they were out of earshot of the children. “I’m trusting you to command in my absence.” Narrowing his eyes at the older man, he added, “I don’t think I need to remind you what would happen if I return and find you haven’t done a good job.”
“No, sir,” Smee said. “You can count on me to keep the crew in line while you’re gone.”
“Good,” Hook said.
A short time later, the children finished their meal and it was time to go.
Looking around his cabin one last time, picked up his travel bag, then brought Tink out to sprinkle each one of them for the trip.
“That’s it,” Hook said. “Let’s go.”
IV
Melissa Darling stood leaning out the open window in her bedroom, looking out at the night sky. George was in bed asleep, emitting raspy snores. They’d exchanged a few sharp words the night before about the kiss she’d shared with James Hook, but Melissa hadn’t apologized. She was desperate to get her children back and she’d do anything to accomplish that goal. And, now, as she scanned the horizon, she admitted to herself that she’d enjoyed Hook’s kiss intensely. Melissa shivered at the memory of it, contemplating the wicked delight that would surely follow if and when he returned the children.
As she was about ready to go to bed, she suddenly saw a flash of light in the distance, rapidly moving closer. Gazing closely, she watched as it headed directly for the house.
“Could it be?” she whispered to herself. Not stopping to awaken George, she hurried to the nursery just in time to see Hook helping the children in through the window.
“Mother!” All three children ran to Melissa, who opened her arms to hug them. For a few moments, she laughed and cried at the same time as her children all at once told her bits and pieces of their adventure, clinging to her all the while.
After a few minutes, Melissa looked up to see James Hook lounging insolently against the wall, surveying the tender scene with jaded eyes. She swallowed a lump in her throat, knowing he wouldn’t be patient much longer about the delay in her living up to her part of the bargain.
“Children, children,” she said in an unnaturally cheery tone of voice. “You’ve all had such a grand adventure that I’m sure you’re all tuckered out and can’t wait to get into bed.”
A loud groan went up, but the children obeyed readily, crawling into bed as she moved to tuck each one in individually.
“Sleep tight, my precious ones and I promise we’ll do something special in the morning,” she said as she moved to the door, with Hook following her out. The pirate paused at the door to release Tink to spread fairy dust all over the room to mahe che children fall asleep. He quietly closed the door behind him and hurried after Melissa Darling, who had gone to stand by a window at the end of the corridor.
“Having second thoughts, my dear?” Hook said, standing behind her. He reached around her waist to draw her back against him.
“N-no,” she said, acutely aware of the evidence of his desire pressing blatantly against her bottom. “I agreed to your terms and I have no intention of going back on my promise.”
“Good.” Extending his arm to her, he said, “Shall we, then?”
She slipped her arm into his hesitantly and followed him as he opened the door to her bedroom.
“What is he doing in here?” the pirate hissed when he saw George Darling in bed, still sawing logs.
Melissa’s hands flew up to cover her mouth in dismay. She’d forgotten all about George in the excitement of the children’s return.
Hook rushed over to the bed and ripped back the covers with his claw. “Out!” he said, prodding the still groggy George Darling out of bed.
“Wha-?” George Darling stood by the bed rubbing his eyes, but suddenly snapped awake when he noticed the angry pirate standing right up in his face, glaring at him.
“Begone!” Hook said, prodding him insistently in the shoulder with his hook.
When they’d reached the bedroom door, George turned around and said, “See here! You can’t be doing this! She’s my wife and that wouldn’t be right!”
Hook slashed his claw against the other man’s arm, ripping the pajama sleeve and leaving a red streak in its wake. “Now, go,” he said in a low menacing voice. “If you are not out of my sight in three seconds, I’ll disembowel you.”
Darling gulped several times, knowing that Hook meant what he said. He turned and scurried off to the children’s room to spend the night.
That problem taken care of, Hook shut the door quietly and locked the door with a firm click.
Hook turned to see Melissa Darling standing against the wall, desperately trying not to tremble.
“Come here, Melissa, “ Hook said softly, opening his arms to embrace her . “I’m not going to hurt you.”
She hesitantly approached him, shivering just a little when she felt his arms encircle her. Awkwardly, she laid her head on his chest, relaxing somewhat as she felt his hand stroking her back.
“That’s it; relax,” he soothed. “You will enjoy this, I promise you.”
Melissa did not reply, but her arms slowly went around him and they held one another close for a long moment.
Hook smiled to himself as he felt the tension leave her body and her hand reach up to shyly caress his hair. He looked down at her, reaching to turn her face toward his with his hand.
He held her gaze for a long moment before bending down to claim her lips. His kiss was first gentle, then intense and demanding as his tongue thrust into her mouth to plunder within as a prelude of what was soon to come.
Melissa shivered with desire as Hook’s tongue lazily continued to explore her mouth, acutely aware of a burning warmth spreading out from her womanly core. Of their own accord, her hips began to grind against his, seeking to slake her growing need.
“Eager, my dear?” he murmured. “Soon. Very soon.”
His hand reached up to cup her breast, his thumb making lazy spirals against her hardened nipple. A low moan escaped her as he continued to touch her body. Taking her hand in his, he pressed it against his hardness, obvious even through his breeches. “Feel how much I want you.”
She inhaled sharply as her hands assessed the length and girth of Hook’s manhood. So much larger than George... Melissa felt it grow even harder as her hands continue to fondle him.
Hook groaned as his desire rapidly intensified, his thoughts of taking her slowly quickly evaporating. He had to have her now.
He reached up with his hook, neatly slicing her nightgown in half, with it falling to the floor in a ruined heap. “So beautiful,” he murmured as he beheld her nude body in the soft kerosene light. “And all mine.”
Melissa reached up to touch his hook for the first time, her hand traveling up his arm to encounter the heavy leather harness that held it in place.
“How?”
“An alligator,” he explained briefly, not wanting to talk about it. Reaching up with his hand, he hurriedly worked at the buttons to his jacket.
She reached up and kissed him then, a gentle, encouraging kiss. As Hook tore off his jacket, her hands moved to unbutton his breeches, her need suddenly as great as his. When she looked up again, Hook was unbuckling the harness to remove his hook.
“Oh, my.” The sight of the virile pirate fully unclothed elevated her pulse and temperature simultaneously.
Hook pulled her back to him roughly, the kisses now more demanding and insistent. His rock hard member jutted out proudly, digging into her belly.
Melissa whimpered as she felt his hand suddenly penetrate her, his finger swirling in her slick wetness. She began pushing against his hand, certain she would die if he was not inside her soon. Instinctively, she reached up and took him in her hand, her eager fingers exploring every inch.
That was it. Hook couldn’t bear the torture any longer. With no further ado, he picked her up and set hewn own on his hardness, sighing as he felt her slide down and impale herself to the hilt. As Melissa’s legs wrapped around his waist, he carried her to the bed, easing her back on it with them still joined.
Hook paused for a short moment, gazing down at her, her hair splayed across the pillow, in frank appreciation. His desire overwhelming, he began to thrust, first slowly, as she was very tight, but then in an increasingly brisk rhythm as his passion began to crescendo.
Melissa was awash in a kaleidoscope of sensations largely new to her. Though a married woman with three children, her couplings with George had been rare, brief, furtive, with no foreplay. His idea of making love was to merely pull her nightgown up and to enter her for a few half hearted strokes before spilling himself. He’d not even bother to remove his pajama bottoms, but simply let himself out through the slit. Such infrequent encounters would rarely take more than thirty seconds. She’d thought the marital act to simply be a disagreeable duty -- until now.
Her body began to meet his thrusts with ones of her own, matching his pace precisely. When she felt his fingers slide into her cleft to rub the center of her desire, she cried out, the pleasure almost too intense to bear. As she felt Hook’s manhood, jerk inside her signaling his impending climax, her own crashed into her like waves hitting the shore at the height of a hurricane.
As he shot his warm seed into her, Hook’s thrusts gradually slowed before stopping altogether. He panted raggedly, as they lay together sated in the warm afterglow of their lovemaking, still joined.
“Oh, my,” Melissa said, after her heartbeat had finally returned to normal. She’d had no conception that it could be so wonderful.
Giving her a gentle kiss, Hook said softly, “Oh my, indeed”. He rolled off her after a long moment, moving to lie on his back. Melissa snuggled closer, her head on his chest.
“I could stay like this forever,” she said as she ran a hand idly through his hair. “I’ll remember this forever.”
“You won’t ever have to remember for very long,” he said quietly. “I intend to have you often.”
Looking at him in dismay, she said, “I thought I’d kept my end of the bargain and that it would be only once.”
“I never said any such thing, my dear,” Hook said. “You’re mine until I say different.” Taking her hand and moving it to his already stirring shaft, he added, “You pleased me greatly, Melissa. I think I want to keep you for my own.”
“But I’m a married woman!” she protested. “It wouldn’t be proper.”
“I care little for propriety,” he said. “If I see something I want, I take it.” Kissing her neck, he said, “And I want you. You cannot deny you want me, too.”
After a long pause, she said, “No, I cannot. I’ve never known anyone who can make me feel the way that you do.” Taking a deep breath, she asked, “But what about George? I am his wife.”
“What about him?” Hook sneered. “What has he ever done for you? He surely isn’t capable of making you feel the way I do, I’d wager.”
She didn’t answer, knowing Hook was right.
“He can stay here,” Hook conceded. “After all, the children do need their father.” Taking her face in his hand, he said, “But from now on, I’ll be the only man in your bed. Mark my words.”
“But people will talk,” she protested. “George will lose his job at the bank if people find out what is happening here.”
Reaching over to get his traveling bag, which was on the floor by the bed, he pulled out a large bag of priceless jewels. Pulling out a handful to show her, he said, “Let them talk. Money can buy us quite a bit of respectability and the freedom to do as we wish.” Returning the jewels to the traveling bag, he let it fall back to the floor.
“This is all kind of overwhelming,” she said in a small voice.
“It will work out for the best, I promise,” he said. “We both deserve to be happy for a change.”
“I hope you’re right.”
“Come here,” he said, “I think we’ve got better things to do right now.”
Moving into his arms, she gave herself to him wholeheartedly, her life changed forever.
Epilogue
Less than a year later, Melissa Darling presented James Hook with a healthy son, who was a miniature copy of his father.
As Melissa had predicted, George was fired from the bank when the gossip inevitably spread about the scandalous behavior going on in the Darling household . George was resigned to his fate, after several ineffectual protests. The humiliation was made more bearable by the large allowance Hook gave him and by the love of his children, who naturally despised their new stepfather. As Melissa and Hook retreated into their own private world, George’s world revolved around his children.
Missing his old life as a pirate captain, Melissa and Hook spent each summer on the Jolly Roger, having grand adventures.
One night, while holding Melissa in his arms after an extended bout of lovemaking, he thought of something Peter Pan had once said to him and laughed out loud.
“Old, alone, and done for?” he thought. “I think not!”
