So we all know that I would drop everything for Richard, jean Claude, hell any of my monsters. But among that list there is only one human and he’s the scariest motherfucker out there. Some call him Ted, some call him Edward, Most call him death, but I call him friend. Or at least as close to friend as people like us can get. So when my phone range at 5 am, and I heard Donna’s scared voice at the other end telling me that Ted or had been kidnapped. Well lets just say I started packing.
After a Horrible flight I finally arrive in New Mexico during the dead middle of summer, and I melt instantly. Shoulder holsters just aren’t made to be worn in temperatures like this, even with only a very short sleeved shirt and the lightest flannel shirt I could find. I searched the area to spot a very familiar face. Donna was waving at me with the kids in tow. Gods why did the women have to bring the kids? Is she insane? Don’t answer that!
“oh thank you goddess that you could come!” Donna said in a much too sweet voice. I could tell she was pissed at having to call me. Wonder what forced her to?
“ Lets go before I melt.” Short sweet to the point and not too catty. See I’m being good. Edward would be proud!
I didn’t say anything on the ride back…well not quite. I did chit chat with the kids some, but that’s it. I will not ask about anything that can take down Edward infrount of children! I’m not that morally corrupt yet. Though the suspense was killing me. Donna wasn’t driving Edwards hummer, she was driving this little old white beater that the air conditioning barely worked on. Ther was barely enough leg room in the fount sit, and talk about uncomfortable seats! When we finally parked outside of Ted’s house, (an hr later) I nearly jumped out of the car. I never thought standing would feel so very good!
I marched my suit case to the room I used last time. No sense in renting a hotel room when there’s a bed room right here. Plus I figure if Edward wanted me called than this is the best place to start looking. Donna sent the kids out to play and slowly followed me into the room. She sat down on the bed and a look of complete defeat crossed her face. I begged god that I wouldn’t have to hold this women’s hand over ted going missing. I really wasn’t up for it.
I turned to her. “okay so tell me something. Why me?” crossing my arms over my stomach I waited. Donna looked up at me a contemplating look on her face. So the woman has some brain cells left. That’s good.
“Ted and I broke up about a month ago…After…what happened I just couldn’t. It was too violent. But he stayed around for the kids. We’ve been good friends I suppose. A while back he gave me a letter for it he ever got into trouble. It told me to call you. “ she paused talking a deep breath. I’m betting the break off was more Edwards idea than hers, but hey if she thinks it’s hers more power to her.
“He said that you would know the combo’s to everything you would need, but what I don’t understand is…why you? Why not the police? I mean..he said you two were just friends…so why call you?” Her eyes demanded answers, staring into mine like she could see out the back of my skull. I just gave her my best blank face.
“ he did he? I have no idea why me. But I think it’s cause we are friends.” Or maybe cause I am almost as much of a monster as he is. But I didn’t say that. Donna simply nodded and handed me a set of keys. A rather large key ring actually, as well as a yellow note pad.
“I wrote down everything for you. Just incase I couldn’t remember something. Look we may not be together anymore, but the kids adore him. Please bring him back alive.” She sounded defected but pleading. I chose not to mention that anyone that could take Edward has probly killed him by now. He’s not someone you could keep somewhere he didn’t want to be without killing him. I just nodded and gave her a professional smile. Empty as a light bulb, but it seemed to make her feel better, so what the hell.
10 minutes later I was in the house alone. In Edwards house alone with the keys. I was just too weird. First thing was first. Coffee and to read over the notes. I know why Edward didn’t want the cops involved. He is after all an assassin, I’m sure having the cops pocking around would just not be good for business.
Sitting at the dinning table with a hot cup of coffee and silence in a cool and very quite house seemed to make things come into focus. I had dropped everything and I do mean everything, to run out here when I had no idea what is going on. Okay so I’m better equipped than the cops, but still the people that could take down Edward, well I can’t touch them. Flipping open the pad I started reading. Most of it was a jumbled mess, I’m betting she wasn’t paying much attention to what she was writing.
An hour later and 2 more cups off coffee I was done, and yet still had no clue as to who to hunt. Apparently he was taken as he was coming back from the park with Donna and the kids. Well that explains why he didn’t just kill them all I suppose. Donna nor the kids were hurt, but he was shuffled into a van. By Donna’s count there was about 10 of them in three vans. And they just appeared out of no where. I truly doubt that, but hey…new age mothers of the year really aren’t trained in watching their surroundings. Apparently the “men in black” as Donna was calling them surrounded them and aimed “big nasty looking guns” at Ted. They told him to go peacefully. He did. I told him this family was going to make him weak. Sometimes it sucks being right. He was than handcuffed and ankle cuffed and than shot up with some kind of drug that made him pass out. They carried him into the black van and al the vehicles moved off I in different direction. Donna didn’t say which way the one with Edward moved off in. That was it. Nothing else useful. Shit.
