Jacob’s POV
I can’t believe it’s been a year since her birth. It seems like just yesterday that I looked in to those chocolate brown eyes that used to belong to her mother. Renesmee, my Renesmee. Thinking about her, even saying her name lately just felt different to me. I was in love. Technically she’s only a year old today, but physically she was a mature 16 year old like me.
I rolled out of bed still groggy from my patrol the night before. There hadn’t been a vampire threat around Forks since the Volturi came here, but ever since I took over as Alpha I became obsessed with keeping my families safe, vampire and wolf alike.
Sam stepped down and left the pack when he found out that he and Emily were having a baby. I was happy for him, he had everything that I all of a sudden found myself wanting. Imprinting was a weird thing even after a year I was still trying to adjust with how quickly my feelings changed for her as she went through life at a crazy fast pace. When we met the one like her last year he said it took him 7 years to be fully mature, but Nessie was only one and she had already blossomed. Carlisle thought it might be because of my influence on her that being eternally tied to a werewolf might have sped things up, but I had no idea about stuff like that. All I knew is that I went from wanting to do nothing except protect her to being head over heels in love with her in a matter of 12 months.
I hadn’t told Nessie that my feelings were getting more intense and I tried as best as I could to keep my feelings from her mind reading father as I walked up to the front door.
“Jake!!” Nessie squealed when she answered the door.
“Hey, kid!!” I said as I scooped her up into my arms and embraced her deeply in a hug.
“What do you mean kid?? According to Carlisle’s measurements I’m just about as old as you!! So, what’d you get me for my birthday?”
“I’ll give it to you later I promise, hun.”
“Aw common Jake.” She pouted. I couldn’t help, but smile at how cute she was. I started to admire the way the light was shining off of her skin and how beautiful her face was. I let my eyes wander for a second too long when I heard someone clear their throat.
“Jake? Can I talk to you alone for a minute?” Dammit I need to do a better job controlling my thoughts around Edward.
“Uh, yeah what’s up?” I said as we walked out the back door toward the river.
“Your thoughts about my daughter actually, do you mind explaining why you were just looking at her like that?”
“Listen I was gonna say something, but I didn’t know how to approach you or Bella about it. I think things are different between us now. I don’t understand it either this whole imprinting thing has been weird from the start.”
“So, what you’re saying that you have a crush on Renesmee now?”
“Something like that, I think I’m in love with her.” Edward shook his head.
“I wasn’t expecting this to happen for at least another few years. Do you want to break the news to Bella or should I?
“Where is she?”
“Hunting with Alice, they’ll be back this afternoon.”
“Oh, well maybe you should tell her. I don’t want her to rip my head off.” Edward chuckled.
“I’d like to see that myself, but unfortunately she has promised Renesmee that she won’t inflict any bodily harm on you.” Edward cut off and looked toward the house.
Edward and Nessie chose to communicate telepathically rather than speaking out loud. It was more convenient for them, but annoying to the rest of us.
“We’ll continue this later Jacob. We’ll discuss this further when Bella gets home with Alice.” I nodded my head in acknowledgment and turned toward the river. I took in a deep breath and stretched my aching muscles as I looked out over the scenery that I’d seen hundreds of times. The wind picked up and I felt her intoxicating scent fill my nose. I felt her behind me as she reached out to touch me it was like electricity. Her touch sent shivers down my spine.
“I love you too, Jake.” She didn’t say the words out loud. When she touched me I could hear her thoughts, but only when she wanted me too. I took in a deep breath and turned to face her. Every time I looked into her face I was taken aback by her beauty. She’d grown so much over the past year it was hard to believe that the beautiful young woman that stood before me was the same beautiful little baby that I held in my arms months ago. She looked into my eyes and smiled. As long as she touched me she could hear everything that I was thinking. Her power had grown with her over the last year too.
Her powers were a combo of her mom and dad. She could read minds, but not the same way her father could. When it came to talking to Bella or Edward they could hear her thoughts and she could hear theirs, but with anyone else she had to touch them in order to communicate telepathically. Like her mother she had the ability to shield her mind and she could also shield the mind of who ever she touched.
“Jacob?”
“Yeah?”
“Ok, good it’s working today.” Her voice sounded like bells even inside my head.
“What did you have a bad connection or something, Ness?”
“Something like that.” She giggled.
“How did you know that I was in love with you?”
“I felt it when you hugged me when you got here.”
“Oh. What’d you tell your dad to make him get off my back.”
“I told him to bud out basically. He seems to think that we might as well enjoy it now, because once Momma gets home all hell is going to break lose.”
“I think he’s right.”
“Why?”
“Don’t you remember what happened when she found out that I imprinted on you?”
“Oh yeah, poor Uncle Seth good thing you wolves heal fast. Don’t worry Momma promised me that she’d never hurt you. She knows that I love you, we’ve just been hiding it from Daddy.”
“What?”
“She said she’s been noticing changes in our relationship for months, but since Daddy can’t read my mind or hers unless we want him to, he’s been in the dark until now.”
“So, Bella’s ok with us?”
“Well she’s not ok with it, but she’s accepting it a lot better than my father is.” She thought as she glared towards the house.
“Well, there’s no hiding it anymore.” I said aloud as I gave her a shy smile.
It was nice being able to admit that I loved her, because I did unconditionally. I loved her so much that thoughts of her took up the better part of my day. I didn’t realize that she was still touching. I was letting my mind wander.
“Wow, Jake, it’s nice to actually feel how you feel about me. I’m glad that you’re not trying to hide it anymore.” She beamed. That was the other thing about her powers; she could feel the emotions of the people that she touched as she listened to their thoughts. I smiled back at her and scooped her up into another hug as I spun her around and listened to the musical chime of her laughter.
