CHAPTER 10
Drizzt continued to stare at the same paragraph in the book; it just wasn’t holding his attention tonight. It wasn’t that the book lacked interest; it was written by an unknown self proclaimed wizard from some place he had never heard of, and it concerned a rather bizarre theory on the movements of people and events on Toril to be regulated and predicted by the life cycle of an ordinary dung fly. Although the author took himself quite seriously, Drizzt had found it to be worth quite a few laughs. Tonight though, he was just tired of reading, tired of the same old routines. This had happened many times in the past, usually resulting in him getting in trouble with various relatives, as his explorations had taken him into places and situations he ought not be in. It wasn’t even the first time in recent days, the feeling had been slowly getting stronger, he had managed to suppress it so far, knowing that graduation was fast approaching. But he really didn’t know how much freedom he would actually have after graduating either. It wasn’t as if he’d be able to do whatever he wanted just because he no longer was in attendance at the Academy. So he been formulating a plan, slowly, at first promising himself he would not actually carry through with it, just use it as a way to fill the hours and get a little satisfaction from daydreaming.
The plan, though small at first, with little detail, became more complex and thought out, every little contingency thought of and nullified. As it grew, he also became more and more sure that it could actually work, sending a thrill of exhilaration singing through his veins. The only thing he hadn’t worked out was how to convince Jas to go along with it. He’d do it by himself, except there were certain details the older drow could provide, things that would make the plan much easier to achieve. Plus it would be a lot more fun with two. But he had no idea how Jas would react to his suggestion, nor whether he would actually agree to it or not. Although Jas had told Drizzt of quite a few of the rather ingenious pranks his sisters pulled on each other, spoken with a bit of awed respect, he wasn’t sure if Jas would go along with something like he had cooked up.
He shifted the book once more, folding and unfolding a corner of the page as he thought of the best way to present his grand idea. He didn’t think telling him it was most likely the last real fun that they would have together would be a good idea, one last big moment in their stolen relationship. Jas seemed singularly unworried about their uncertain future stretching before them, seemed to think they would have no difficulty finding time to meet. And this from the drow who professed to be so obsessed with him; Drizzt thought he ought to be just a bit more concerned about what was to happen to them once the younger drow had to return to his House and then be sent off on patrol. Drizzt didn’t think for one minute that it would be as easy as all of that. Jas’s family might not notice he was missing since their house was crammed full to the point of bursting, but Drizzt doubted his family would be so unconcerned with what he was up to.
“There must be something awfully interesting on that page there.” Drizzt startled, even though Jas’s voice was quite low.
“You’ve been reading that same page for twenty minutes,” he said, with a little smirk, in response to Drizzt’s defensive expression. “What are you really thinking about?”
Drizzt was silent for a moment, then burst into a quick sting of words, all in one breath. “Want to do something crazy? I have a plan to go out and do something fun but you have to listen to the whole thing before you say no or anything and you can’t tell anyone else about it even if you don’t want to actually do it but I wanted to tell you about it anyways even if you don’t come..”
He trailed off, losing his breath and looking up anxiously at Jas to see if he had worked that out enough to give a response. Jas chuckled, and with one eyebrow raised, said good-naturedly, “If it involves following you around, you know I’m game no matter what it is, you know that.” He lightly brushed away a stray lock of hair that had fallen across the younger drow’s cheek.
“Yes, but this is more than just sneaking off to some old shed that no one cares about any more when nobody cares we’re gone..” He sat up to emphasize the point, and the strand of hair fell across his cheek once more as he leaned forward conspiratorially. “I want to go into the city. I want to see it without anyone hurrying me along or having any place to go. I don’t think I’ll get a chance even after graduation, I’m sure they’ll come up with plenty for me to do to make sure I don’t get to have any fun.”
He pouted a bit and waited for the expected shocked and negative response. He didn’t get it, he never did with Jas, he ought to know that by now, he assumed. Jas just smiled and commented that Tengen had done that on a number of occasions, although it was usually by cozying up to one of the students at Arach-Tinilith. Since he doubted sincerely that Drizzt would have even considered using that method, he waited for him to elucidate.
Somewhat deflated, although intrigued by the fact that it obviously could be done, Drizzt lightly bit his lower lip. “Well, I was thinking of something along those lines, but with us as the priestesses.” He ended the statement almost as a question when Jas raised one eyebrow. “It’s just with all those sisters you probably could get us clothes and everything, and with graduation so close there’s a huge amount of female traffic,” he explained, worrying over how silly this might sound now that he had said it aloud.
Again, thankfully, Jas didn’t interpret it the way Drizzt thought he might. Instead, the older drow looked at him with that dreamy expression he usually got right before he said something filled with innuendo.
“Mmm.. I’d love to see you in a dress,” Jas said silkily, running his tongue across his teeth “Although I’m not sure how long it would stay on you.”
“Oh, you would immediately think that,” Drizzt exclaimed, rolling his eyes and slapping Jas lightly on the arm.
Jas grabbed his hand as he pulled away, pulling the younger drow in close so he could retaliate with a swat of his own on one perfectly shaped buttock. Drizzt gave him a disdainful sniff but made no move to break from the embrace. Jas looked into those purple eyes, a mix of hope and anticipation. “When you look at me like that, how can I say no?”
***
The city was buzzing with the celebratory anticipation of the graduation ceremony of the students a year Drizzt’s senior. The streets were full of drow coming and going from various preparations and private celebrations. It was indeed a perfect night for their little scheme, and Jas had secured the clothing just as promised. However, Drizzt didn’t exactly look happy, his delicate features screwed up in a disdainful look. His glare was aimed at the particular garments he now held, pinched between two fingers as if it might bite.
“Do we really have to go this far with it? I mean really..” he trailed off, shaking the tiny wisp of fabric that pretended to be an undergarment as if it might grow bigger if it got rattled around enough.
“Oh come on,” Jas tried to stifle a laugh, but didn’t quite succeed, “It was your idea in the first place. Anyways, its part of the whole garment; see, the skirt attaches here and here, but that leaves a whole lot of space between. Although I’d love to see you without it, I don’t exactly want to share it with every one else.”
Drizzt blushed, just a bit of light on each cheek. “Ok, fine, but it better be clean,” he huffed.
Jas couldn’t help but laugh again. “Don’t worry, the sister it was intended for doesn’t exactly need it any more since she was stabbed in the back in the Academy.”
The younger drow looked up at Jas sharply, “And this is supposed to make me feel better?!”
“Doesn’t matter,” Jas said blithely, “she wasn’t much use to any one but herself anyways. “ He shrugged, dismissing the issue.
Drizzt shook his head, sighed, and decided just to let it go. That was not something he wanted to discuss tonight. He reluctantly stood up and started taking off his clothes, and Jas took his cue and busied himself doing the same.
Drizzt slipped the undergarment and its matching top on quickly, tugging at the strings that laced up the back with one hand and reaching for the flimsy skirt with other. As he did, he caught sight of his reflection in a huge, rather ugly decorative shield. It had been a long time since he had seen himself and he hardly recognized the drow reflected there. He had grown taller and had lost most of the baby fat that still lingered when he first had come to the academy, leaving his features more delicate and pointed. Captivated, he lifted his hair up off his neck and twisted it up, leaving his hand curled in his hair, skirt forgotten. He thought he looked a bit like his sister Vierna, although smaller and wispier. And a quick glance down would tell any one his true nature; the tiny orange thong left little to the imagination. Fortunately, Jas’s sisters tended to run a bit on the smaller size chest-wise, so the top didn’t hang on him like a top belonging to Vierna would have. A sock or two could remedy that easily enough.
Still caught up in the image, he didn’t really notice as Jas crept up behind him. He breathed in sharply, startled, as Jas tugged on the laces, tying them tight right in the small of his back. Jas smiled, it wasn’t often now that he could get away with that the Academy had pretty much taken care of that.
“And to think, the view’s just as amazing from the back as well,” he breathed in Drizzt’s ear, nibbling on his neck as the younger drow blushed.
Jas was already dressed, looking quite amazing himself, dressed in a dark purple gown with a diamond cutout starting from the top of his groin to the bottom of his breastbone, the center filled with fine silver thread in the shape of a spider web. The skirt ended in the same web design. He had left his hair in its ordinary braids, as was the custom of his house, but had interwoven some silver beads in the plaits.
Drizzt shyly admired their reflection in the shield as Jas gathered up the forgotten skirt and slid his arms around the younger drow’s waist, wrapping the skirt quite expertly around him and tying it in place as well. He fastened the skirt to the tiny hooks at the base of the top, one here, one there, working his way from back to front, purposefully lingering in a spot or two. Drizzt leaned back into Jas, half disguising the move under cover of letting Jas get to the front hooks, still watching their shared reflection with half closed eyes.
His eyes sprang open again as Jas finished the last two hooks and then slid his hands from the hooks and under the skirt. “See,” he teased, “undies all covered up now.”
The younger drow let his eyes drift half closed again as Jas ‘s fingers continued to trace the interesting angles Drizzt was making in that delightful orange bit of cloth. He lifted his head to watch the reflection as well.
“Don’t we make a pretty picture,” he murmured, watching as Drizzt pushed back into him, eyes closing as the reflection was forgotten as pleasure took over.
“Mmm, not that I am complaining, believe me I’m not, but I really really do want to get out of here and if we keep this up that’s not going to happen,” Drizzt murmured, not moving except the twitch of his hips in response to Jas’s soft touches, sounding as if he was trying to convince himself of the matter.
“Yeah,” Jas murmured back, voice husky. “But by no means are we done with this tonight, not with you looking like that,” he said, pointing to their reflection. “No way.”
