Chapter Ten
Peacefully I sat in a rocking chair humming a well known lullaby. Slowly I rocked to and fro, to and fro holding a small bundle in my arms and humming my lullaby. I could just see the face of a small pink baby resting snuggling within the warm yellow blanket. There was a pacifier in the baby’s mouth and it bobbed up and down as the baby sucked it in its sleep. I smiled and stood up carefully, there was a beautiful white crib across the room that was adorned with beautiful yellow sheets, blankets, and pillow. I pulled the pretty bed attire back and gently laid the baby down. It sighed heavily and I couldn’t help but smile at the amazingly beautiful baby that slept carelessly.
Was this mine and Edward’s baby? Was I its mother? What was the baby’s sex? It was dressed in yellow and its room was color in yellow. Perhaps it was a boy? But, yellow could be a girls color too! I would just have to check. Careful, so not to wake the baby, I unwrapped the warm bundle and reached to peak in its diaper. As my finger reached the little elastic edge a phone started to ring somewhere in the house. Oh no, the phone was going to wake the baby, I thought frantically. Somebody answer the phone, somebody answer the phone! Quickly I pulled away and placed the covers over the baby. Then I went to search for the phone. It rang again, not as distant as before, and then I thought of something…
I gasped awake and looked around frantically. Edward was nowhere to be seen and my phone was ringing from somewhere in the room. I jumped from the warmth of the covers and dug through my pants pocket. It was ringing and vibrating in my hand as I checked the caller id, great it was Alice.
I quickly flipped the phone open and answered, “Morning Alice.”
“Bella, where are you? Do you know what time it is? It’s already eleven in the morning! Is Edward there,” she sounded fit to be tied this morning, I thought grumpily.
“No he isn’t here Alice, I don’t know where he is…it looks like he left a note though.” I picked up the note from the bed side table and quickly read it. “It says that he had to leave, it would be bad luck and all, and that he would see me this evening at our wedding.”
Alice exhaled relieved, “Good, where are you. I’ll need to pick you up.”
I had to think about it for a minute, “I’m at the Olympic Suites Inn on Olympic Drive.”
“Fantastic, I’ll be there in a few minutes so be ready,” she hung up the phone and I was left staring at the pile of clothing on the floor. I was getting married in a total of eight hours! As quickly as I could I pulled my self together and waited out front for Alice. I had already given the key to the room back and was waiting patiently when Alice pulled up in the Volvo.
Quickly I climbed in the car, “Thanks Alice.”
“No problem, now let’s go and get started.” She threw the car into gear and headed back to the Cullen’s.
I snapped my seat belt and turned to her, “I’m sorry Alice, but what are we getting started exactly?”
She snorted with laughter and looked at me incredulously, “You’ve got to be kidding Bella! I told you only a week ago that I was going to take you back and do your nails and make sure you were beautiful remember?”
“No actually I don’t remember. So we’re going back to your place and you’re going to doll me up?” I didn’t like the sound of it, but I really did want to be beautiful for my wedding day. If anybody knew beautiful it was the amazingly beautiful and flawless Alice.
She pulled onto the driveway and drove like a maniac down the curvy drive, “Yup, we’re going to make you so stunning it’s going to make Edward’s mouth drop and we’re going to work your mom over too.”
“Renee?”
“Yes Renee, do you have any other moms that we doing know about?” She giggled at my question lightly. I blushed at my own stupidity and climbed out of the car as it pulled to a stop in the garage.
The rest of the morning and most of the afternoon was spent doing girly things for each of the women in the house. Rosalie, Esme, Alice, Renee, and I all had our eyebrows, legs, and armpits waxed. Then we each did each others nails. All of the girls had their nails painted bright red and at first I disagreed when they asked if I did too, but finally they talked me into painting my fingers and my toes red. By the time we were finished doing all of the girly things it was time to get everybody ready for the wedding and my nerves were making me nauseas, or maybe it was the baby?
I watched as each of the women had their hair done by Alice. Esme’s long caramel colored hair was done in long beautiful ringlets that danced about her back. Renee asked for her hair to be done in short loose curls as well. Alice parted it down the side and quickly covered my mom’s head in beautiful curls. Rosalie’s hair was slightly more difficult. Alice pulled all of it up into a ponytail except for a few stands in the front. Then she took bobby pins and put her hair into an array of twits and loops until it rested in an elaborately beautiful mass on top of her hair. The stands of hair that were left out were curled into ringlets that trailed down the sides of her face. Then it was my turn to have my hair done. Alice brushed my hair back and put it in a long wavy mass of curls. Strategically she place a tiara right behind my bangs and then she used some sort of hair goop to keep my long bangs swept to the side. I was amazed by the style and thought that it was absolutely beautiful.
“Thank you so much Alice! It’s beautiful! Would you like me to do yours now? How would you like it?” I asked and stood up quickly. She sat down in the seat before her bathroom mirror and thought about it for a moment.
“Well curls seem to be the rave right now. How about tight little curls,” she asked with a raised brow.
“Sure!” Thirty minutes later I was finished putting her short hair into a bunch of small curls. They bounced about almost playful and I was happy with my handy work.
“Alright, it’s time to get your dress on!” She rushed me out of the room and into her bedroom.
My dress was beautiful and Alice was the one to thank. It was an old fashioned dress that Alice had redone and added too. The dress was thick heavy satin that billowed down to almost drug the floor. There was flowery designs embroiled at the bottom that crept about a foot and a half up all the way around. The dress was strapless but there were see-through lace sleeves that were also designed with flowers. I had on a pair of beautiful stilettos that made me a few inches taller. My ears were adorned with beautiful diamond tear drop earrings and my necklace matched.
Both Renee and Esme wore beautiful red numbers. My mother’s was a knee length red satin dress that was designed with an elegant flowered top. It made her look immaculate. Esme’s dress hung around her beautiful frame loosely. It hung to her ankles in the back and as it came around the front it went into a v shape to show over her slim legs. They both dressed quickly, without messing their hair up, and waited with my as Alice and Rose got dressed.
Each of the girls stepped out of the bathroom into the room and I gasped at the beauty at them. The dresses that we had chosen for them to wear were long satin dressed with layered skirts and v neck dips to show off their cleavage. They both wore scarlet red stilettos that I could barely see under the hems of their dresses. They were both clearly beautiful standing before us. With the oohs and ahs of my mother and Esme, they walked forward and twirled.
“Alright girls, we’ve got to get going before it gets too late.” I grabbed my white purse that had everything important inside and handed it all over to my mother. “Can you keep this safe for me tonight until we leave for our honeymoon? I don’t want to carry a purse with me because it will get in the way.”
“Sure honey, now let’s go.”
We all rushed down the stairs of the Cullen’s house and instead of going through the garage Alice directed us through the front of the house and out of the front door. “Alice what’s going on?”
The question had barely left my mouth when I stepped out onto the porch and saw exactly why we were going out of the front door. Before the house was a white stretch limo. The driver climbed out of the front seat when he saw us and opened the door so that we could file in.
“What do you think, it’s beautiful isn’t it?” Alice asked cheerfully once we were all inside. I nodded my head speechlessly gave her a tearful hug.
Renee spoke from beside me, “Well I suppose you and Edward really are set up financially. There’s nothing to worry about at all…” She trailed off quietly and ran her hands over the velvety seats.
“Of course they’ll be fine.” Rosalie spoke cheerfully.
“Now Rose, don’t brag it isn’t polite,” Esme chided. Rosalie did her best to look embarrassed and ducked her head bashfully.
Alice pulled my attention away from the others by grabbing my hand in hers, “Now Bella, I have a present for you. You can open it now if you like, but either way, before you get to Venice, you’ll need to open it up.”
“I’ll open it right now if you like,” I didn’t have any idea what sort of present she might be giving me. She handed me a medium sized thin metallic red box to open. I glanced at it and then began popping open the curly ties that held it shut. Once it was free I pulled the lid off, pushed the red tissue paper away, and then I gasped in shock. Inside the box was a beautiful article of clothing, if you could call it clothing, folded neatly inside. It was a red bustier that laced up in the front, the panties were black boy shorts, and there was a pair of black stockings inside. “I…wow…erm…its beautiful Alice.”
“You like it,” She squealed with pleasure and threw her arms around me again. “I bought something with red and black because it would go good with your red stilettos.”
“Thank you Alice, thought, I don’t know if I’ll be able to put it on or take it off.” I said and looked at all the lacings.
“Don’t worry, putting it on is easy and pretty self explanatory. Taking it off on the other hand, well, Edward will take care of that.” She said cheekily and I felt the blush spread over my face. “Oh and all you need to do it put it in your carry on bag.”
“What if they check my bag?” I asked a little worriedly. I could just picture how that would go over.
Alice’s face went blank momentarily and then she came back with a grin, “Oh don’t worry, I’m sure things will work out alright. I doubt they’ll stop you two.” She leaned in closer for a moment, “I saw it, and you’ll be fine.”
I nodded my head and sat back against the seat with my present in hand. It would take about a half an hour to get to where the wedding was being held. There was a reception hall that we’d picked out that was absolutely beautiful. It overlooked the woods and if you looked out far enough you could see the moonlight sparkle off of the ocean waves in the distance. I would be an inside wedding and reception all in the same area. Alice had insisted on renting out one of the best DJ’s in the area and as the wedding planner she have every detailed put into place as she had said it would be.
As we neared the hall my stomach began turning with wild flip flops. I wasn’t nervous. There was nothing to be nervous about. I’d be taking Edward’s last name and pledging my undying love for him. It was nothing to be worked up about, and yet my stomach was telling me otherwise.
“Bella, dear, are you alright? You look ailing…” Esme sat forward in her seat to look at me a little more closely.
I swallowed down a lump of bile that had begin rising in my throat and shook my head, “No, I feel like I’m going to be sick.”
“Oh no,” Alice exclaimed and grabbed my shoulder. She looked at my pale face and groaned, “Take deep soothing breaths. It’s probably morning sickness.”
“In the evening?” I grouched at her and she nodded hesitantly. I took a few deep breaths and drank a sip of water from Renee’s bottle of water. We pulled up before the wedding hall and climbed out of the car. The cool air seemed to calm my stomach some.
“Are you alright now?” Renee asked worriedly.
I nodded my head, “I’m much better now.”
“Good, now let’s go, it’s almost time for the wedding to start.” Alice drug me inside and handed me my bouquet of white lilies. Each of them made sure that my dress was arranged properly and them both Esme and my mother walked forward and gave me a tight hug.
“You look beautiful,” Esme said and squeezed my hand.
Renee stepped forward with watery eyes and hugged me as well, “I love you Isabella and I want you happy. Congratulations.”
“Thanks, both of you.” I waved at them and they disappeared around the door leading directly into wedding hall. A few seconds later Charlie came in and stopped in his tracks.
“Wow, you look amazing Bells! Are you ready to get married?” He walked over and offered me his left arm.
“I thought you’d be mad…” I murmured.
He shook his head, “Of course not, your mother and I want you happy. Not matter what that takes. If you’re happy, I’m happy. Are you happy Bells?”
“Yes,” I said certainly.
“It’s time!” Alice screeched and grabbed her bouquet of yellow lilies. First she and then Rosalie disappeared around the door.
“Alright kiddo, here we go.” We waiting until the song finished and the wedding march began to play. That was our queue to walk and Charlie pulled the door open until we were revealed to all of the guests. They stood watching us, waiting for us to start our march down the aisle. I had invited most Forks High and all of my family to the wedding. There weren’t many people, but the amount was still intimidating.
We started walking down the aisle and my eyes drifted to Edward. He stood with Jasper and Emmett in their matching black tuxes looking amazing. Each wore an all black suit except for the red tie, a red handkerchief, and a red lily pinned to their chest. He caught my eyes with his own and I felt as if I would melt. I could see him admiring my dress and even though I couldn’t tell what he was thinking I knew he thought I was beautiful and that he felt the same love for me right now that I did for him. My heart felt as if it might swell and explode in my chest.
I smiled at him brightly and then my gaze drifted over the guests. My mother and Phil stood in the first row of seating with Edward’s family and a woman that I didn’t recognize. I was wondering to myself who the person might be when I realized that the seat next to her belonged to Charlie. That woman must have been the date that Alice was talking about, the date that Charlie hadn’t wanted to talk about that night in the kitchen. I gave him a quick glance to see if he was looking in her direction but he wasn’t, instead he was counting his steps and concentrating on the rhythm of the music.
Another glance around the room brought me to Angela who was smiling at me brightly. Ben was stand next to her with a grin on his face and his fingers were laced with hers between them. Standing next to them were the on again off again couple, who were apparently on again, of Mike and Jessica. She was looking at me with the most interesting look on her face. If I didn’t know better I would have said that she was jealous that I was snagging better. But, knowing Jessica so well, I knew she was just jealous of how pretty I must look. I smiled at her as we walked past and she gave me her best fake grin. Why had I allowed Alice to invite her? She wasn’t my friend, not really anyways.
My eyes drifted back to the alter. Edward watched me glide down the aisle until I stood at the bottom of the alter on Charlie’s arm looking up at him and the minister.
“Who gives this woman in marriage?” The minister asked loud enough for everybody to hear.
Charlie patted my arm lovingly and said, “Her mother and I do.”
Edward walked down the few steps and waited as Charlie lifted my vial and kissed my cheek. Then, as rehearsed he took my arm and led me up to stand before the minister. There was a loud rustle throughout the hall as everybody sat, Alice stepped forward and took my flowers, and then it began.
“We are all gathered here today to witness the marriage of Edward Anthony Cullen and Isabella Marie Swan. First let me recite the meaning of love:
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast,
It is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
It is not easily angered,
It keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil,
But rejoices with the trust.
It always protects, always trusts,
Always hopes, always perseveres.
Please face each other.” Edward and I turned toward each other. He took both of my hands in his cool gentle grasp and looked down at me with love in his eyes. The minister continued, “Isabella please repeat after me: I, Isabella.”
“I, Isabella,” I repeated feeling a little silly.
“Take thee Edward,” the minister continued cheerfully.
“Take thee Edward.”
“To be my lawfully wedded husband.”
“To be my lawfully wedded husband,” my emotions started to change and I felt as if I were going to start crying. I took a deep breath and waited for my cue again.
“Knowing in my heart that you will be a faithful friend.”
“Knowing in my heart that you will be a faithful friend.” Edward saw a tear slip from the corner of my eye and he brushed it away with one thumb tenderly.
“And a true and loving companion.”
I gave Edward a watery smile, “And a true and loving companion.”
“On this special day,” the minister spoke again.
“On this special day.”
“In the presence of our relatives and friends.”
“In the presence of our relatives and friends,” I looked out toward the crowd and smiled at my parents and the Cullens.
“I give to you my sacred vow that as your wife.”
I turned back to Edward with new feeling in my heart. This day I was marrying into Edward’s family with my vows of love, but soon enough I would be marrying into his family with my blood. The thought, though scary because of the pain, made me feel a certain kind of easy. I sighed and said, “I give you my sacred vow that as your wife.”
“I will always be with you and support you.”
“I will always be with you and support you,” I said these words with a fierceness that I hoped Edward understood.
“In times of sickness and in times of health.”
“In times of sickness and in times of health,” I thought the sickness part was funny because vampires didn’t get sick. But I tried not to giggle and kept quiet.
“In times of joy and in times of sorrow,” the minister continued loudly.
“In times of joy and in times of sorrow.”
“I promise to love you completely.”
I squeezed Edward’s hands tightly and said, “I promise to love you completely.”
“To consul and comfort you during difficult times.”
“To consul and comfort you during difficult times.”
“To encourage you to achieve your full potential.”
“To encourage you to achieve your full potential.”
“To laugh with you and to grieve with you.”
“To laugh with you and to grieve with you,” I murmured softly.
“To share with you life’s simplest but most enduring pleasures.”
“To share with you life’s simplest but most enduring pleasures,” I instantly thought of the first time we went into the mountains and enjoyed the sun in the meadow. One of the simplest afternoons in the sun had been one of my happiest moments with him. Enjoying him as he was lying in the sun.
“To be truthful and always honest with you.”
“To be truthful and always honest with you.”
“And to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.”
“And to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.” I repeated the end of my vows and had to force myself to stand in place. I really wanted to step forward and kiss him solidly on the lips. To show him that my vows had been true and I had meant what I had said the entire time I spoke it.
Edward’s vows were exactly like mine and as he spoke them I felt as if my heart would explode. Because even though he couldn’t show me how he was feeling with actions, his words held all of the promise and honesty that I had hoped mine would. His eyes reflected the love that he felt as he spoke, and again he had to wipe away more tears as they escaped from my eyes. There was no way that I would be this emotional normally, not ever, I was blaming the entirety of the emotional rollercoaster on the pregnancy. Edward finished his vows, which he spoke only loud enough for me and the Cullens to hear, and then the priest looked toward Jasper.
“The rings if you will Mr. Hale,” the minister called lightly.
Jasper hurried forward and handed first Edward and then myself a ring. I held it carefully in my hand as if I thought it might break.
“Edward please repeat after me: Isabella; with this ring I thee wed, take it and wear it as a symbol of all we shall share.”
“Isabella; with this ring I tee wed, take it and wear it as a symbol of all we shall share.” Edward took my left hand and gently pushed the white gold band onto my finger. I gasper when I saw that it wasn’t the ring that his mother had given him. It was a new white gold band that he had obviously bought. This ring had five diamonds set into it and it fit perfectly around my small fingers.
“Isabella please repeat after me: Edward; with this ring I thee wed, take it and wear it as a symbol of all we shall share.”
“Edward; with this ring I thee wed, take it and wear it as a symbol of all we shall share.” I took his left hand a put the ring on his finger that I had chosen for him. He looked at the white gold band on his finger and smiled. Both of the rings we chose for each other were part of the same set. His also had five diamonds set into it, his was the masculine version of mine.
“You have declared before all of us that you will live together in marriage. You have made special promises to each other, which have been symbolized by the joining of hands, taking of vows and the giving and receiving of two ring's. By the authority vested in me as a Minister in the state of Washington, I now pronounce you to be husband and wife. Now that the ceremony is over and the experience of living day by day is about to begin, go and meet it gladly. You may kiss the bride Mr. Cullen.”
Edward smiled at me and leaned down to place the softest kiss against my lips. A chill ran up my spine knowing that I was now Edward’s wife. I was so happy I wanted to yell at the top of the world. I wanted to make sure that everybody knew that I was his and that he in return was mine. Nobody else could have him and he would be my husband for eternity.
“I give you Mr. and Mrs. Edward Cullen!” The minister called out so that the entire church could hear. They began playing the music to that we could walk out and Edward took my hand in his. Emmett and Jasper slapped him on the back as we passes and Rosalie and Alice looked absolutely thrilled as they followed us out into the changing rooms. Bird seed was being thrown up to rain down on us as we hurried past. We had purposely chosen to have the wedding and reception within the same hall, except in a different area, and we needed to dress in our reception attire.
As the changing rooms came into view Edward pulled me into the one we would be sharing and closed the door securely behind him. Slowly he turned on me and began to walk toward me, “Why Mrs. Cullen, you’re looking absolutely beautiful this evening.”
I blushed a deep shade of red, “Thank you, you know you didn’t look so bad yourself.”
He chuckled and swept me off of my feet. Easily he walked to the cushioned couch and sat down with me on his lap. His lips found mine and we both fed off of the other’s hungrily. Long moments passed and I pulled away to breath, “Edward there expecting us back.”
“I know I just thought I would enjoy you for a few moments alone. You are my wife after all…” He kissed me again and I fell into his silken trap, but only for a few moments, I promised myself.
