Chapter 10
The rest of the morning went much like that. Everyone was curious about the new kids. Apparently almost everyone had grown up here and they all knew each other. It was weird to have one new student but five was really weird. She sat next to a very talkative girl in the last class before lunch. “So, oh my god, welcome to Forks high! Home of the Spartans! I’m Jessica.” The girl said. Alice looked at her and smiled.
“Thanks. I’m Alice.”
“So you are all related? What’s that like having so many brothers and a sister?”
“We aren’t actually related.” Alice clarified, knowing that this girl was just pumping her for information. Emmett, Edward and I were adopted and our mom took in some foster twins a long time ago. That’s Rosalie and Jasper. So technically none of us are related.”
“I saw um..Rosalie and the big guy earlier. They look a little close to be brother and sister.”
“Yeah, well, like I said Rose and Emmett aren’t actually related.”
“So they are an item?” Jessica pumped.
“Something like that.” Alice hedged trying to concentrate on the lecture but the girl would not shut up.
“So who’s the blonde one?”
“Jasper.”
“He’s really cute.” Jessica said. Alice could see the plotting going on in the girls head. She wanted to scream that Jasper was hers but she couldn’t.
“Yeah. He’s kind of…intense.” Alice settled for hoping that Jessica would get the message.
“Is he single?” Jessica, obviously not catching Alice’s tone, asked.
“um…well…” her eyes went out of focus and she saw Jasper making love to her and telling her how much he loved her. “No, he’s been kind of, claimed.” Alice told her.
“Huh, well long distance relationships never really work out so it will be fine. I can wait.” Jessica said. Alice tuned her out. She was also completely unaware of the guy behind her checking her out.
The rest of class, Alice just paid attention to the teacher. When the bell finally rang she began to gather her things together. “So will you sit with me at lunch?” Jessica asked, obviously hoping to get more info out of her.
“Umm, my family usually sits together.” Alice answered vaguely remembering Jasper’s comments about them all eating together.
“Well then we can all sit together and you can introduce me to your brother.” Jessica said as they headed for the door. She stopped short when she noticed Jasper leaning against the wall in the hallway.
“Jasper, meet Jessica; Jessica…Jasper.”
Jasper walked over and put his arm around Alice’s shoulder. “Come on, Rose and Em got us a table for five.” He said pointedly totally ignoring Jessica.
“Sorry, Jessica, looks like lunch is out of the question.” Alice threw over her shoulder.
After a few steps Jasper turned to glare at the boy Tyler who was walking right behind them. “And quit checking out her ass.” He told him angrily. Alice touched his arm gently and he turned back to her. His eyes black with anger.
“Calm down, Jasper. He’s only human.” She said offhandedly with a grin. To anyone else the comment would have sounded normal but to Jasper it had a special meaning. His eyes turned gold again and he smiled down at Alice.
“I suppose I’m going to have to get used to guys checking you out, huh?”
“Doesn’t mean you have to like it.” She said impishly.
“You know I’m not being protective in a big brother way, right?” He whispered as they reached the doors of the cafeteria.
“I know.” She responded and smiled warmly. “Trust me, I wanted to rip out Jessica’s hair when she asked if you were single.”
Jasper laughed out loud as they got into the line for food. “There is no need. I don’t see anyone but you.” He picked out double food and two sodas. He carried the tray over to the cashier and paid and then led Alice over to the table their family was at. “Edward, anything we need to know?” Jasper asked as they sat.
Alice pulled the tray over to herself and picked up a slice of pizza and took a bite. She could feel every move Jasper made and it made her blood sing. They hadn’t touched in so many hours and as soon as he put his arm around her after class she completely relaxed. She had felt him relax as well. Their relationship was bound to be amazing.
“We are fine. They have figured out about Em and Rose and they think it’s weird but it’s ok. There are going to be a lot of requests for dates for the other three of us but I think we are good. Nothing we haven’t dealt with before. Although, I told Alice earlier and I’m going to tell you now, Jasper if you are serious about her, you guys might want to think about going public with a least part of your relationship. I know your temper and it won’t go well with all these guys trying to hit on her all the time.”
Jasper chewed on his toothpick and looked around the cafeteria. Several of the guys sitting near them were checking Alice out. Of course everyone was staring and he couldn’t be sure. He looked over to find Alice watching him. “We’ll figure it out tonight, ok?” He told her. She nodded and smiled at him. He looked around again. “There is one thing I think we should do now though.” He began glaring at all the people sitting around them that were staring. Edward and Emmett caught on and began doing the same. Rosalie always looked at people like they were beneath her so she was already doing it.
Alice saw what they were all doing and how people were turning red and looking away but she couldn’t just glare at people so instead she looked out the window like she was lost in her own little world. Jasper caught her hand under the table and squeezed it gently. When lunch hour was over, Jasper stood up and grabbed the tray, then he held out his hand to Alice. They walked together to throw out the trash and then headed out. He walked her to her locker and waited while she gathered her books together.
“You don’t know how bad I want to kiss you right now.” He said lowly.
“I wish you would but I really don’t think now is the right time.” She responded as she slammed her locker shut. “We will talk tonight though, right?”
“Nothing could stop it.” He answered with a smile. “Let’s get you to your class.”
Jasper walked her to the door of the gym and squeezed her hand before moving off to his own class. Alice went into the locker room after being handed her uniform and dressed out. Jessica was waiting to ambush her.
