Norma/POV
*******************************************************************************
Weird assed weather. It’s not even seven in the morning and it’s already warm. At least a soft breeze can be felt now.
I have to talk to Ben and see if I can drag his ass to the beach.
Maybe we can even convince Lis to come and bring Jake. Since yesterday, Ben has been curious to see him. Yes, I spilled my guts to my sweet favourite fag. Had to drown him in novelties, since he had been gone for the weekend right? He knows my taste in men is good, and damn, I had praised Jake. If I hadn’t seen them together the way I did, I would so try and hit that furiously.
I flip my cell open, with only one hand, the sound of my hells resounding on the sidewalk.
Isa, Isa, Isa… Ah! Here it is. Need to change her name tag again.
Ok, I know I am being a bitch, and a curious one at that, but I am dying to know details.
I was able to squeeze some info out of her yesterday after our… hugh… emotional talk.
She told me she didn’t know that much about him, and that she was really surprised when she saw him there.
Which on one hand didn’t add up to what she had told me before, when she said she had invited him to come and see her. Not mentioning the whole we-had-tea-in-my-porch-and-talked before and all that. I mean, if they talked, he would have said a little more then his name, right?
I had the distinct impression she had fed me a bowl of very delicious crap yesterday.
There was more to this story than what she was telling me.
She was so anxious to get home yesterday it was hilarious. I’d never seen her looking at the clock so many times as I did yesterday. Not even when she was in the early days of the dreaded Mr. Perfect Hair stage.
She looked like a teenager, and it made me happy to see her like that frankly. I can not stress how much I hate the damned golden boy lawyer, fresh out of college and with so many proposals to various influent law firms all across continental U.S. – especially the fact that he almost seemed to smother the girl I’ve known for so many years.
She had been so alive, so filled with dreams! Even when Granddad died, she was, in a way in peace with herself, since she was able to be with him when he… left. She grieved his death, in her own strange way.
“Time to run with the wolves freely” he said.
Her grieving and at the same time memorial to him is all across a whole wall in her house.
Sometimes I miss him (hell, after my adoptive mother’s death he became almost my grandfather as well, in the same no blood but nevertheless strong bond as well), and I know she does, and that it’s painful, but she always sports a smile when she talks about him.
Even if I fear that her thing for Jake is somewhat based in her love for Granddad, I approve of it just because… Well, I can put this in two cathegories:
One - Come on! The man is hot and has brought the light in her eyes that had been lost even during the time her and Jay had been together.
And two – the way he was looking at her… it… I can’t even explain. It was only her there in the room. No one else.
And then, there is something, that happens so seldom in my life, that I learnt to grab it with both my hands and teeth when it comes. It’s not something I can explain, I just could see in his eyes this… honesty that just made me smile and open up my little veil of protection against the world to let him in.
It’s weird, but I randomly feel strong empathy towards certain people. Benedict being one of them. Lis presented us once, after he met with her concerning an exhibition and we became friends on the spot.
Although, I do admit, I have a very strange way of showing it, since I am not really much verbal in my expressions of friendship. Ahah.
Besides, call me weird, but he just… “sounds” right for her.
I think that, in a strange warped way, I am actually pretty romantic.
Seriously.
When my mind doesn’t shift to carnal land…
To dial or not to dial…
Wicked grin, as I press the button.
Tone. Tone. Tone. Maybe they are still at it. I snorted. Tone. Tone. Tone.
“Norma?”
“Morning!” I even skip a step, bouncing. She sounds raspy. “Coming for breakfast at Jane’s?”
“Huh… Break…” She stopped a bit. “Crap! What time is it?” She sounded alarmed. I chuckled.
“Not even seven yet.”
Silence.
“Dude… You are killing me here. You woke me. I slept through the alarm clock…”
My eyebrows crease somewhat when I hear a background gruff sound. And then I feel the corner of my lips pulled by invisible lines at the corners.
“MORNING JAKE!” I said a little louder. Damn birds got scared… Wasn’t that loud, what’s their problem?
“Fuck Norma, what the hell?” I can hear Lis complaining from a distance, I bet she has the phone in a safe distance from her ear. Ahah. There is another laughter on the line also. “Jake says hi too.” She says with a pout, I can hear it.
I giggle a bit.
“So, you guys coming or what? You need to feed the man, he’s big.” Snort.
“Yeah… In a bit. We need to shower and all that. You know, hygiene.”
“So, one hour...”
“About that.”
“… for the shower sex, another to get ready. Damn Lis, you won’t be able to get here in time for breakfast.”
Silence.
I grin.
“So, just drop by Jane’s, I’m going to chew her head off now.” I chirped, not letting her answer me. “Chu!”
I flipped the cell shut, laughing to myself.
****
“She’s been looking at you weird.”
Ben looked over his shoulder at Jane, his reddish hair over his hazel eyes.
I smiled, putting my cell inside my bag, crossing my legs. I don’t really know what my visage betrays, but he looks at me with an adorable squint of his eyes.
“What did you do to her before I got here?”
“Nothing.” Oops, that sounded so bad. No Oscar for me it seems.
“Norma..” There it is, that adorable scowl on his face. ARG!
“Why God makes men like you fags is beyond me…” I sigh theatrically. “You look like such good hump material it pains me.”
AH the half blush. I just love this man. Really. He composes himself, squaring his shoulders.
“You are derailing little devil. Now spill.”
I smile, as he crosses his arms over his button down shirt clad chest.
“Well, I gave her a piece of my mind about what happened yesterday, with Lis.”
“Oh.God.!” He passed his hand over his face, his eyes closed. “When was that?”
“About fifteen minutes before you came.”
He sighed, too theatrically if you ask me, and opened the beautiful hazels to look at me, in what I think, was supposed to be a scolding look. Made him look like a pissed off cute little hamster.
Seriously, why does he have to be gay damn it?
“You will never learn. Man, it’s weird listening to Lis’ name like that. Ever since Jason…”
My index had a mind of his own: it stretched up in his direction.
“Do.not.speak.that.maggot’s.name.in.my.presence!” I nearly growled. “I hope his hair catches on fire.”
He chuckled.
“Ok, ok!” His hands held up in front of him. “I really would like to know what did that Jake person did to you. If possible, you hate J.. huh, the lawyer even more than you did.”
“You will get it once you see Lis’ face when she’s with him. She glows!”
“It was only yesterday! How can you have such a distinct impression of him like that?”
He looked pretty suspicious by now. I don’t blame him, I am not that known for being a gentle person… But…
“You’ll see.” I smiled, with a chin tilt upwards, trademark move Ben’s tells me sometimes.
“Speaking of which…” He looks at his wrist watch. “It’s almost eight, where are they?”
I couldn’t help it; my lips quirked in a little devilish smile.
“Shower still, I’ll bet.”
Ben rolled his eyes once he spotted my eyebrows dancing over mine. I chuckled and he joined, suddenly stopping in an almost cough, his eyes staring in the door’s general direction.
“Fuck me.” He stated, still staring, so I rotated my torso, my arm draping over the back of my seat.
“There they are!” I smiled, and waved to Jake and Lis. Yeah, I understand Ben’s reaction. That man should NOT ever walk the street like that. Come on.
The black T-shirt is like a second skin. And those almost ripped jeans are fucking killing me. Plus, his hair is still wet. Yum. Lis’ wearing jeans too, and a simple tank top, with her hand in Jake’s big one, and a bit of a blush colouring her cheeks. Again. Whoa, I will never get used of seeing her blushed, even if I live forever.
“Morning guys!” I yell out with another wave, making Lis’ face scrunch up. Sour mood it seems. What the hell…
They walk to us, and I realise that they aren’t exactly holding hands; Jake is the one doing the holding. Lis’ eyes roam around the room behind her lashes, looking like a scolded puppy.
“Fuck me.” Ben breathes out again. “Is Lis blushing?” He almost whispers out. Jake’s lips rise in a cocky grin, almost as if on cue.
“I told you it was true!”
“Damn.” He says again.
“Stop drooling Ben.” I smirk with devious intent.
“Yeah yeah, ah ah, very funny.”
I look over my seat again, watching as Lis eyes fall over Ben, a tiny smile plastering over her lips.
“Benedict!” Her face lights up upon seeing him. “How was your weekend?” Lis lets go of Jacob’s hand as she gives a step forward to greet our friend. He puts his hand over the table as he gets up, to receive the kiss she is offering on his cheek.
I look at Jake to gauge his reaction. And God knows it takes everything in me not to snort. Jake is not happy. Oh so not happy.
AHA!
Again that sense of … familiarity when it comes to him hits me.
“Morning Jake!” I smile as I look at him, his eyes diverting to me with a lag when it concerns normal human behaviour upon hearing ones name. He is so not happy right now.
“Hey Norma.” He smiles but it does not reach his eyes, as he still maintains Lis’ motions under close surveillance by the corner of his black eyes. She has sat beside Ben, smiling and asking about details of his weekend: it is concerning a little project both have, and have been keeping me out. The phrases are cut. And it does bother me, and would even more if Jake’s reaction wasn’t taking a fair quota of my attention.
“Did you go…?”
“Yep. Amazing, will show you later!”
“What about…?”
“She was thrilled, which is good since you know that they are…”
“I know!” Lis almost shrieks in happiness.
I look at Jake again and pat the seat beside me.
He looks at me, then at the seat and heavily lets himself fall over it, wearing the cutest aggravated scowl ever. What’s with me and pissed off men is beyond me.
“You will get used to it, they always do this.” I whisper confidentially to him with a half smile.
He nods at me with a distant look, his eyes hooded with some emotion I’m not able to pick out. It looks… painful. I flinch when I realise this so I clear my throat loudly.
“Huh HUM!”
Both Lis and Ben look at us.
“Hey, remember us? Still here, feeling left out and all that jazz.” I say, rolling my hand leisurely in the air. “We’re thinking about making out until you noticed us again.” I say with a smirk, hitting my elbow against Jake’s who is looking at me like I just grown a third eye in my forehead.
I chuckle, look at Lis and I nearly choke mid-laugh.
Holy fuck. Her eyes just closed in little menacing slits. To say I am surprised is a freaking understatement. She actually looks… pissed, like I had never seen before.
“Chill woman, I was just kidding!”
It’s now Ben’s turn to clear his throat.
“Hey there, I don’t think we’ve been introduced.” He smiles at Jacob, who in his turn is looking at Lis with a ghost of a smirk on his lips. Black eyes snap to Ben with a polite smile, as he extends his hand over the table. They shake hands, cordial smiles.
And if I hadn’t been looking, it would be easy to dismiss: the hardening of hazels for less than a second when their hands touched. I feel my eyebrows creasing minimally at this. But, as it appeared it was gone, and Ben’s face was again all cordial smiles.
“Benedict Roessler. You must be Jacob.”
“Black.” He counters, and Ben’s lips go up a tad bit in a smile, that I know is somewhat… faked? It is again just an impression of mine, it could be I was overreacting, but Ben’s stiffness is still there, barely noticeable, in little gestures as he sits down, for he had partly rose from his chair.
I look at Jake for a moment, gauging his reactions, and he seems guarded as well, although I can’t really read him for not knowing him as well as I know Ben.
Probably it’s just me.
When I am alone with Ben again I’ll ask him what was that all about. In the meantime, I will continue convincing myself that I am a paranoid freak. Feeling the tension in the silence that follows, and not allowing it to stretch to uncomfortable lengths, I decide to make them uncomfortable on my own doings.
Smirk for the win.
“So, you guys showered fast huh?”
Ben threw a napkin at me, again very at ease. Almost as the tension wasn’t even there to begin with.
“Discretion woman.” He looks at Lis for a moment, with an apologetic smile. “I tried to muzzle her before you guys came, but you know how she is…” He rolled his eyes in the end, making them fall on me.
I growled like a petit lioness.
He just chuckled, and Lis followed the cue.
“Yeah I know how she is all right.” She shot me a glare, and that got me on the best of moods again. Yep, I am a little weird like that. Besides, it only gives me more power to poke her about the possessive behaviour she just showed when I barely (ok, not barely: blatantly) insinuated I wanted a piece of the gorgeous man sitting beside me.
The conversation continued, with some questions from Ben to Jacob, asking how long was he planning to stay (he answered that he was planning on sticking for quite a good time, with a sideways glance at Lis), and where was he staying when in town, which again elicited a very nice blush on Lis’ cheeks that Ben did not comment about (but looked somewhere between worried and happy about it).
Of course I cut the convo saying that it would be stupid of him to get a room or something, since he and Lis seemed to be getting along just fine (yep, I did nudge Jake with my elbow while saying it), making both Ben and Lis to throw napkins at me.
Jake seemed to only be watching the scene, with a guarded smile, and little widening of it at times, making me want to know what the hell was he thinking about.

AN - I am so so so so so so SO sorry!
Ok people, I am currently kneeling in begs of apology. It has taken me longer to update then ever and I should be ashamed, but I had a couple of problems IRL that cut my time down so drastically it’s not even funny.
Besides, I had another problem with the plot. This was going to be a cute/hot little fic, but it’s growing, and I have been dealing with its proportions, as they alarmed me when I found that characters were blossoming too damn fast, along with the plotline.
I am still fighting the will to extent this, for it will bring a whole lot of work I do not need, and time I do not have. ;_;
Ben is growing in the midst of my mind, and even Norma surprised me when writing this in her point of view.
I have the seeds planted, especially in this chapter, but I will see still if I am going to water them or not.
Anyways, next chapter will be written in one of my favourite POV: Jacob’s. This chapter was supposed to have both, but I have been delaying the post for Jacob’s POV isn’t finished, and you guys deserve to know that, at least, I am not planning to drop this.
Now, answering reviews really fast:
Gaps of Misery - Dude. U.ROCK! We already emailed, so I dun need to go on here, feel free to spank me over gmail *snorts*

Bee - *hands cookie* You are correct milady. Kudos to you. About your questions…. Muahahha, wait patiently, and all will be disclosed. *grins*
Record Keeper - Reviews like these make me wanna hit myself for taking too long in updating. Thank you for your kind words. *smiles*
anaxibia - Thanks so much! The reason why it has so few reviews is simple – non cannon ish not popular. There. Lol! Anyways, I am glad I gave you hope on adultfanfiction, it means a lot to me. Seriously.
You guys make me smile. Expect the Jacob Chapter soon.
