Disclaimer: I do not own The Chronicles of Narnia, nor any of the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Disclaimer: Not mine. C. Lweis owns it. Plot and original characters are mine though, as are all litttle plot devices, such as the small details that I came up with. I am not making any money off of this fic. It is written for enjoyment and because I have an overactive imagination that keeps me up if I don't stay busy.
A/N: Thanks for the reviews and waiting patiently. My plot bunny was a little more difficult to catch with this chapter but I managed to catch him. I think I am working over my slump slowly. Please Read, Review and most importantly Enjoy (Review)
On to the story
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aslan stood just outside the camp staring at the tower that morning. He worried that Razor Wing and Cara. He was also worried about the legend and prophecy. He was worried about it all.
“When a daughter of Eve and the son of Narnia bare a burden of love, the tower of onyx shall appear. With a great sacrifice and their love, shall the destined crowns be given and all of Narnia will be healed.”
Aslan nodded, closing his eyes. He remembered now. The dawn of the pre destined was upon Narnia. It was a time to both love and fear.
“Sister of whispers. Brother of song.”
The lion lord opened his eyes to look around the camp. The people were outside tents and some were gathered at the edges of the safe boundaries. The black tower was causing confusion and suspicion amongst the ranks. He was worried. They all should be.
“Nalsa.”
His whisper was soft. It didn’t matter that his brother was dark. Aslan was a loving spirit. He held faith in people when others did not. It was his spirit and Tumnus that helped to show Edmund the error of his ways.
“What are you planning, my brother?”
Aslan took a few steps forward. The song of Narnia started to play on the wind for him as the memories came. The fire light in front of him started to spark and dance. They formed shapes of the two lions in a great raging battle with one another. There was a statue behind them. It was a man with feathered wings, made of stone. The hands were outstretched and in each one lay a crown. These were the crowns of the destined.
The fire flamed higher. It exploded around him and suddenly the images were no longer flames. He was there. Aslan let a roar fill the walls of this strange black room. Another roar met his. It was Nalsa.
“Aslan.” The black lion snarled. “This will never come to pass. I will rule Narnia. This is how it should have been since the birth!”
“Stop this Madness Nalsa!” Aslan yelled. He didn’t want to fight his brother. “Let Narnia be free!”
“Never!” The black lion leapt in the air towards a figure that lay sleeping on the alter. “I will kill Narnia’s hope and end it all!”
“No!”
Aslan jumped and shoved his head up and into the chest of Nalsa. Both lions flew away from the sleeping figure. A second shadow joined the one on the alter. It was standing up beside the sleeping one.
“I can not let this come to pass! Narnia Is mine!” The black lion roared.
Fury raged inside the black lion. His claws swiped . They slashed deep into the fur of Aslan. Aslan growled, only fighting harder. His claws met the black lions. It was a battle of brothers.
“I will kill you!” Nalsa swore.
Nalsa snarled and snapped his great jaws around the throat of his brother. Aslan growled at the pain but flung him away and swiped with his claw while the black lion flew through the air. He didn’t have time to see what happened to him. The sound of a scream caught his ears.
“What?” Aslan gasped when he turned to see the two figures on the alter. “No!”
He leapt and then there was darkness. Aslan was thrown back into the world outside by the fire. The great beast and noble lord let out a deafening roar when he landed. It pulsed through the very air around them all.
“Nalsa!!”
Aslan fell to the ground, panting with labored breaths. These visions could not come to pass. He had to stop them some how. For once in his life, the great lion, Aslan felt completely and utterly helpless.
“Aslan?” The gentle voice of Lucy touched his ears. She was kneeling beside him. “Aslan, are you alright?”
When did she come beside him? He opened his eyes to look at her. She was not the only one there. The whole camp was surround her. Tumnus was to his opposite side and Kale was trying to keep people from crowding them.
“Lucy...Tumnus?” Aslan was disorientated. “Where am I?”
“Oh no.” Lucy shook her head. “We are all at the camp.” She had a cloth and was brushing it along his forehead. The cool water felt good to him. “What happened?”
“It was..nothing.” He forced him self to stand. A lion should never appear weak in front of his people. “Have Razor Wing and his mate, Cara, returned yet?”
“No sir.” Kale answered. “They have not.”
“They should be back.” Aslan turned quickly to face the strange tower. “I told him not to get ..”
“Aslan..” Lucy touched his mane. “Something is wrong.”
Tumnus nodded in agreement, as did every person in the camp. None had ever seen Aslan in such a state. Lucy smiled at them all though. She tried to ease their minds and let them know that she was trying for them.
“Come Tumnus. Come Lucy.” Aslan started to walk forward. “The rest of you.” He turned slowly. His golden brown eyes looked over each and every one of them. “Please wait here. I need to talk to them. If anything happens, Kale can help you.”
“Yes sir.” Kale nodded. “I will.” He smiled as he spoke. He had such a willing heart. “Please be safe.”
“We will.” Aslan turned, starting to walk away again. “Please come you two.”
“Y...Yes sir.”
Both Tumnus and Lucy spoke. Lucy stepped slowly behind him. She couldn’t help but worry even more now. Tumnus followed in behind her.
“You two have done me proud.” Aslan looked forward. “There is just more that I need to talk to you about now and I do not wish to have to burden you with it. It must be said though.
“I want to help Aslan.” Lucy grabbed her husbands hand. “We both want to.”
“She is right. It isn’t a burden when people are willing.” Tumnus kissed the back of her hand. “Lucy knows this better than any of us.”
“I can’t help it if I want to treat people equally and help.” She sighed. “I love all of Narnia. I could never expect her or the people to just serve me. I would wish a queen that was not afraid to do things on her own, if I were in their position.”
“That is why you, Lucy,” Aslan stopped down a path. It was a bit away from the camp and they could see the newly forming tower in the distance easier. “Will make a good mother.”
“Sir?” She blinked. “M..m...mother?”
“Are..you saying that..” Tumnus gulped. “She is..?”
“Yes.” Aslan nodded to them both. “She is. You will be parents.” He chuckled. “You will be very loving, adoring and caring parents to a baby boy.”
“I am..” Lucy panted. “I am pregnant.” She looked at her stomach. Her fingers touched it as if it were delicate glass. “A baby.”
“A boy.” Tumnus was breathing quickly. “Y..you see this? You know this for sure?” He looked at Aslan. The faun had tears in his eyes. “She..is?”
“Yes.” Aslan gave his best attempt at a lion smile. “Happy birthday by the way.”
“Oh!” Lucy gasped. Her birthday had completely slipped her mind. “ I forgot.” Her hand was over her mouth. “I am eighteen and..I am...” She was crying. It the obvious thing that would come next. “Tumnus..”
“Are you happy?” Tumnus scooted closer to her. “Are you happy about this, Lucy?”
“Yes.” She nodded. “I am.”
The two forgot that Aslan was there for a moment. He didn’t mind. This was news for them. It was meant to make them smile and act like this. He watched Tumnus pull her into his arms. He stroked her cheek and hair gently.
“Thank you Lucy.” Tumnus whispered.
He kissed her very passionately. Lucy gladly returned the kiss. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders. She was lifted from the ground by him as he continued to kiss her. Aslan settled down to the warm grass and chuckled softly. He felt the warmth of love emanating from Tumnus and Lucy.
“You want this right, Tumnus?” Lucy’s tip toes touched the ground. “With me?”
“Only with you.” Tumnus glanced at Aslan finally. “Is..this what..you wanted to say sir? This is not a burden at all, if that is so.”
“Oh no, no.” Aslan shook his head. “There is ..something more but I fear that it might not be as receivable as the previous news.”
“What is it?”
Lucy leaned against Tumnus. Her faun husband kept his arms wrapped around her. His hand was massaging her stomach. He did it without thinking really.
“First I would like to tell you a story, if I may?” Aslan motioned to a nice little grassy spot. “Please sit.”
“Oh, right! Lucy shouldn’t be on her feet so much.” Tumnus was beaming with pride. “Here love.”
He sat down and gently pulled her into his lap. Lucy chuckled at him. He was going to try and spoil her worse now than ever before! He was so sweet. Aslan knew they truly loved each other from how they acted together. Their love was fated to be.
“This story starts a long time ago. Narnia was young and just beginning to live.” He lowered his head to the grass as he spoke. He liked the feel of the warm blades against him. “I was young as well. This is not so much about me though as it is my brother.”
“Is he Nalsa?” Lucy was laying against Tumnus. “You called his name out.”
“Yes. Nalsa.” Aslan kept his eyes closed. “When I told you that we were both exact opposites, I was not lying. He is a black lion with shaded eyes of gray. His heart holds no love, no desire or feelings. He does things simply for him self. He was always this way. It was thought, that if he were around me as a cub, he could change. He couldn’t change. He wanted to be as he was and is.”
“You still love him, don’t you?” Lucy could see the sadness welling up in Aslan’s eyes. “Because he is your brother.”
“Yes Lucy.” Aslan nodded. “I do still love him. I tried my best to inspire him. I wanted to show him what Narnia could do if you let her love you in return. Her magic is special and fills each one of us with her light. We are all a part of her. Even he is. He just does not wish to admit it.”
“He isn’t the one responsible for that is he?” Tumnus pointed at the slowly forming tower in the distance. “If he is...How? That must take some kind of special magic.”
“He is not.” Aslan sighed. “That is another thing I wish to speak to you about.”
“It doesn’t feel bad to me though.” Lucy glanced at the tower. “It is almost like..I feel a purpose coming from it. What ever it is must be something just..” Her eyes were transfixed on it . “Just...”
“Lucy.” Aslan called to her. “You must not lose your self to it. No matter how it feels, that place holds very deep magic that, to be honest, even I do not understand.”
“Huh?” Lucy forced her self to look away. “I’m confused then.”
“It does hold a certain...feeling to it.” Tumnus nodded. “I can’t quite place it.”
“I expect that feeling will only grow inside both of you.” Aslan whispered it to them. “There is much you do not know or understand. There is much I can not say and yet too much that I am unclear and most uncertain about to say with confidence.”
“What do you mean?” Lucy smiled though because Tumnus was still rubbing her stomach. Tumnus was watching Aslan so he was doing it without thinking. “Is it truly something that bad?”
“Patience.” He shifted on the grass. Aslan was thinking about the best way to say it. “This is..a part of the story I was telling.”
Tumnus and Lucy were quiet. They wanted to hear. Maybe if they could understand more of what was happening then they could be of more help. Lucy especially felt helpless. At least Tumnus was getting about and people were talking to and reporting to him. She slapped her self mentally for that one. She almost sounded jealous. Lucy could never be jealous of her own heart, which Tumnus was.
“We were both told a very old story. My brother didn’t like to sit around and listen to a lot of the drabble, as he called it. I always did. It was about my beloved Narnia. “ He sighed. Aslan’s eyes were finally open. “He stayed for this one however. It was a tale told to us about a legend. He rolled his eyes at first. He thought it another one of those Narnia gets a new king or queen stories.”
“This was one of them but it was more. You see it talked about the destined rulers of Narnia.” Aslan let his eyes travel over them. His eyes were warm and caring. They could easily see the love he held for them and for Narnia. “These destined rulers would reign supreme over the land. In fact, it is the only thing that supercedes the once a king or king, always a king or queen law.”
“You mean..once the two destined wear the crowns, Not even Peter would be a king here?” Lucy blinked. “Or Edmund or Susan?”
“Nobody. Not even you if you did not wear the crown.” Aslan responded slowly. “These two people are the ones that love Narnia so much that they are willing to give their love and a great sacrifice to keep Narnia safe and healed for all time. This is the legend. When a daughter of Eve and a son of Narnia bare a burden of love, It is their love and a truly great sacrifice that will set Narnia free from darkness.”
“But..I’m the only..daughter of Eve..here.” Lucy started to breath a little heavier. “Bare a burden of love. A son of Narnia.” She looked at Tumnus.
“Our...child.” He looked down. Tears were already hitting the ground. “It is us and..our..baby..That is why you told us.” Tumnus was trembling. “Because..of this legend.”
“N..no.” Lucy gasped. “It couldn’t be.” her hands went to her stomach protectively. “You..it..” she looked at the tower. “No..”Her heart was sinking fast. She loved Narnia. She loved everyone here. This was unfair.
“It might not be you.” Aslan pulled her from very dreaded thoughts. “I am not saying if it is or is not. There is alot I do not understand, as I said. I also felt very strange presences in Narnia last night. At first, I attributed it to being the clouds but when they were gone, I felt differently.”
“S..someone else?” Tumnus raised a brow. “More daughters of eve?”
“I am honestly not sure. I am doing my best to find out.” Aslan stood. “I want you two to try and stay safe. Do not stray from one another. If things get worse, it could mean the end of Narnia as we know it.”
“Us?” Lucy wasn’t looking very happy. “Aslan.”
“Yes you and I know. This is confusing. I only wish I had more information to give you. This is why I am going to the tower my self. Razor Wing and his mate did not come back. They must be searched for. So for now, I leave you both in the capable protection of Kale and his men.” Aslan turned his head to look at the tower. “I promise I will not let harm come to either of you. I swear it.”
“Aslan.” Lucy got to her knees and then stood. “Please don’t go. Please...I..I can go. I want to do something to help.”
“No Lucy.” Tumnus was on his hooves now as well. “You can’t.”
“But..” Lucy whimpered, looking down. “How can I be hope and not help?”
“Just stay safe and both of you, guard our hearts. I have a feeling that Narnia’s troubles are only just beginning.” The lion said.
Tumnus and Lucy watched him leaving. Would he come back from there? Razor Wing and his mate didn’t.
“This isn’t fair Tumnus.”
“I know Lucy.” He sighed and hugged her. His hand stroked through her hair. “I know.”
