Chapter Twelve.
It was a month since Tamia’s failed hunt, she still hadn’t gone hunting since because of the hunters in the woods searching for the wolf pack that killed Bella. Tamia looked at herself in the mirror. She knew she had to put her contacts in to hide the truth of what she was as her eye color was changing from her blue eyes to her black eyes tinted with gold flakes. She knew she should have resumed her hunt that weekend but things just kept her from doing so and she wouldn’t dream of drinking her horses’ blood, as with how hungry she was, she would most likely kill them. She ate her normal breakfast and headed off to work, hoping that nothing would spur her hunger.
It was one of those long days for Tamia with one call after another. It wasn’t till she noticed the slight pain within her head and the red spots in her eyes. She picked up her phone and called Caroline to come in as soon as possible as she needed to go to the doctor. She hung up the phone and took the next call as she sent the police out on another chase of a burglar or a reported stolen vehicle.
Tamia knew by the time 4pm came, she was going to have trouble as her vision was starting to go tunnel vision. She got up from her seat and headed to Charles’s desk. “I need to go now. My migraine is not going to be held back any longer. I’m heading home if that’s okay?”
“Okay, go we can handle everything else, Tamia.” Charles said, as he walked her out to her truck. “Are you sure you can drive in the state you are in? I could drive you home?”
“I’m fine as long as I can get home without problems, I’ll be peachy.” Tamia whispered, as she climbed into her truck and drove towards home leaving Charles standing there puzzled.
It was a very long forty minutes drive to the dirt road and the fact that she knew she was soon going to have more problems if she didn’t get home soon. Her eyes blurred as she drove, she knew she could not continue on down the road without having an accident and the only place she knew who had someone at home was the Cullens. She turned up their drive and drove towards their home, in hopes that Carlisle was there.
Esme was listening to a CD when she heard the sound of a horn honking. She hurried to the window and looked out to see Tamia’s truck sitting there. She hurried down the stairs and to Tamia’s truck. She could tell by the look of her that she was sick. “Tamia?”
“Migraine,” Tamia whispered softly.
“Here, lets get you out of your truck and inside.” Esme stated, as she aided Tamia in getting out of the truck and into the house. After Esme placed Tamia on the couch and a cold wash cloth on her forehead, Esme grabbed the house phone and quickly dialed Carlisle’s cell. “Carlisle, you better come home now. Tamia is here and she’s in the middle of a migraine.”
By the time, Carlisle got home, Edward, Jasper and Emmett were home. Tamia was partially asleep on the couch when Carlisle walked into the house. “Has she gotten ill yet?”
“No,” Edward said, as Carlisle walked into the room. “She probably did before she got here.”
Carlisle walked over to the couch and gently removed the cloth from her forehead. He gave her eyes a quick glance before he looked up at the others, his face showing his shock before he turned back to Tamia. “Tamia, did you get ill before you arrived here?”
Tamia shook her head and with her finger motioned for him to come closer. When his ear was close to her mouth, she whispered one word. “Hungry.”
Something in the way she said it made him look at her eyes even more carefully. It was then he realized what she was and the migraines were associated with that. “Tamia, when did you last hunt?”
“Two months ago.” Tamia whispered.
Carlisle pulled away from her and covered her forehead with the cloth again. He looked at Emmett. “Emmett, go get me a deer . . . a living one. Go.”
Emmett looked at him shocked by the request. “Why?”
“I need the blood.” Carlisle replied. Emmett looked at him strangely, as he normally wouldn’t ask him to go hunt him down a deer like that and in front of a patient. Carlisle sighed, “It’s serious, Emmett, I need the deer alive and not drained either.”
Esme looked at Carlisle, her eyes asking the question. “Emmett, do as your adopted father tells you.”
Emmett growled under his breath as he dashed out of the house and into the woods. Jasper was looking extremely pained as he stood there. “She’s in pain and she’s hungry.”
Carlisle didn’t respond to Jasper’s comment as he was focusing on Tamia’s eyes as the contacts that Tamia had covering her true color of her eyes were now gone. Edward looked on concerned for his human friend when suddenly he could hear her thoughts.
Esme noticed the look of shock on Edward’s face. “Son, what is it?”
“I can hear her thoughts.” Edward whispered loudly. “I can hear them but they’re all jumbled.”
Carlisle looked at him. “What can you hear from her?”
“She’s hungry and she’s scared of what her relationship will be with us now.” Edward replied.
Esme looked at Edward and Carlisle. “What do you mean?”
“I think . . . she’s one of us.” Edward blurted out. Jasper and Esme stood there shocked as they looked at Edward before turning to look at Tamia who still laid on the couch quietly moaning.
“That’s impossible. We would have been able to tell if she was one of us. She’s warm to the touch, she’s able to eat human foods without coughing it up, stuff like that.” Esme said.
Emmett came walking into the room. “The deer is outside in the back yard, Carlisle. Tied up and waiting.”
Carlisle nodded as he lifted the damp cloth off of Tamia’s forehead. “Tamia, the deer is here,”
Tamia tried to sit up on her own but she was just too unsteady to sit up without help from Carlisle. He aided her to the back door and pointed to the deer that was on the grass. “There’s the deer Emmett got for you.”
Tamia barely opened her eyes and looked at the deer. “It’s a young one . . . a yearling.”
Emmett looked shocked. “Yes, but how do you know from there?”
“I can tell by the markings.” Tamia replied, as she looked down the seven feet drop to get to the grass.
Carlisle started to say something when she leapt down, landed on her feet and hurried with the speed of a vampire to the side of the deer. With a flash of silver in her hand skinned the neck of the deer and the cry from the deer was heard till the shock came in and silenced the deer. They stood there watching as Tamia turned to the belly and cut into it and reached in pulling out the liver of the deer and devoured it raw.
“She’s either a vampire or a human with cravings of blood or a mix of the two.” Jasper stated. “I had never seen one before now.”
“A half breed,” Carlisle stated. “One who is a mix of both human and vampire.”
“Carlisle . . . is she one?” asked Emmett.
Carlisle shook his head. “I am not sure. There are cases of humans feasting on blood of animals but it is possible that she’s of that side of the human race and not one of us.”
Edward smiled. “She has a mind shield that is up when her migraines are not active. I was able to read her thoughts . . . although they were jumbled.”
“What does her mind say now, Edward?” asked Jasper. He could feel Tamia’s fear radiating off of her now that she had revealed her side to them.
“I can’t read them, her block is up. But when she was lying on the couch, she was worried that she wouldn’t be able to hold off on biting anyone. She’s scared of what she is, I think.” Edward said.
“Not scared, worried.” A voice said. They looked down to the yard to see Tamia standing by the deer, licking her lips clean of the blood. “I was worried what this will do to my relationship with your family, Edward, since your house is of vampires and I am at this moment standing on a thin line between vampire and human.”
Carlisle smiled. “Tamia, we’re vampires ourselves.”
“I knew that, but you didn’t know about what I was.” Tamia replied, as she wobbled a bit on her feet as she started to walk towards the house.
Edward was by her side immediately as he wrapped his arm around her waist and aided her to get into the house, where Carlisle examined her eyes once again to find them blue instead of black with gold flakes. He looked at her. “Your eyes have returned to their normal shade, Tamia.”
“I knew it would once I feasted.” Tamia stated, calmly.
Emmett asked, “So why didn’t you tell us?”
“That I was part vampire and part human?” She looked at him carefully. “Or that I didn’t go on a hunt for animal blood yet?”
Carlisle smiled at the look of confusion on their faces. “The part about you being part vampire Tamia,”
Tamia nodded. “Actually, the popped blood vessel in my eye was a cover to hide the blackness of my eyes showing. My contact lenses had slipped and I had to use some eye dye that dad created for me to make it look bloody when the lens slip.”
“So you would have a chance to get it back in place without problems of having someone notice the color?” asked Alice, looking at her.
“Yes, it would mean killing them.” Tamia replied.
“Do you kill them . . . yourself?” asked Jasper.
“On the rare occasion that it happens around me . . . the answer is yes, I do the deed.” Tamia stated, as she looked at him. “You are not affected by my human scent anymore, Jasper?”
“I was tempted by it but the scent I smell is more vampire than human now.” Jasper said, after smelling the air.
“Then, it means that my vampire side is starting to move forward in my body.” Tamia whispered to herself.
“Tamia, what do you mean?” Esme asked.
“It just means that my dad will be turning me much sooner than he expects if my vampire side is heading to the fore.” Tamia said.
Edward smiled. “Carlisle can do it for your dad right now.”
“Edward!” snapped Esme, slapping his arm with her hand.
Tamia growled at Edward. “Edward, that is not nice. My dad would probably be pissed that he didn’t do it like he promised me as it will give him problems.”
“What kind of problems?” asked Emmett.
“My brat of a brother kind of problem, Emmett,” Tamia replied.
“What will your brother do?” Jasper asked.
“My brother will state that he can claim what was given to me by another.”
“Meaning . . .?”
“Being turned to a vampire by our father,” Tamia replied. “To whom, had told him that he has nothing of the talents or skills that would have came from his blood. The only one who did was me.”
“How did your father find out that your brothers didn’t have the talents?” asked Esme.
“When my dad took them hunting with him one weekend. We all knew he was a vampire. Mom kept me at home that weekend as she figured that I wouldn’t like seeing dad kill a deer. Dad killed the deer in front of them . . . the reaction that he got was not what he had really expected. Both boys were disgusted by the flow of blood and wanted nothing to do with it. That told him everything.” Tamia stated.
“So he probably thought he had no child that was vampire.” Alice asked.
“Correct. He took them home after he feasted, bringing with him the deer meat that he butchered for mom to have. There are some half bloods that show it immediately in the womb, but my brothers and I were very different in that. We showed more human traits during pregnancy and our childhood. Dad never thought about me till I was ten years old when I bore witness to my best friend getting a very bad cut on her thigh after she fell through a window. After I called for help and got the cut under control as good as I could, I ran for home and looked at my mom. She grabbed the phone and dialed dad. By the look in her face, she knew I had just showed what I really am to her – a vampire. When dad got there ten minutes later, the blackness of my eyes was turning back to blue. But he knew by how scared I looked that something really bad happened. I told him what I could before the stress of the whole thing made me pass out as the next thing I knew I was in dad’s car and he was speeding down the road with a worried look on his face.” Tamia replied.
“So what happened?” Carlisle asked.
“He took me to Volterra, Italy where I stayed till I was 15, training to keep my bloodlust down and how to hunt prey of the animal kind by one of the Vampires there who didn’t take to hunting humans down. I never really knew his name only that he was a blond-haired man with a kind eye. I learned that I could eat blood and human food without problems. While I was there, I started to age fast because of the diet of animal blood I was eating. When I returned home, I looked like I was 21 years old even though I was only 15. Dad told my brothers and mom that I would look older than I really am and not to worry as it is natural for a half-breed to age faster. My dad told them that when I was ready, the change will happen and I’ll be at a good age forever.” Tamia said.
“So you are really forty now?” asked Emmett.
“No,” Tamia shook her head. “I won’t be forty till next year on the seventh month on the Twelfth Day.”
“That’s July 12, right?” asked Edward.
“Yes and that’s the day I will be changed fully to a vampire.” Tamia rubbed her head with her fingertips.
“Is the migraine still there?” asked Carlisle.
“Sadly, yes. It is not that strong but it is enough to where I am not really able to push past the pain.” Tamia whispered.
“Well, this shot will help dull the pain and let you be able to sleep.” He whispered as he administered the shot.
Tamia was sitting on the couch when the painkiller took effect and with the aid from Carlisle laid down on the couch and drifted off to sleep seeing his face looking on with a slight worry on his face. But she looked behind him to see Edward, his face was in pain seeing her in such pain. The last words she heard was Edward’s voice saying something about their venom before darkness claimed her.

It was the next morning, Tamia rolled off the couch with a loud thump. She sat up hearing couple of giggles. “So sue me, I forgot where I was at, Emmett.” She growled as she looked at him and Jasper standing there.
Esme came in slapping the back of both men’s heads with her hand. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I just forgot that I was not in my bed and on a couch when I rolled over, Esme.” Tamia replied as she stood up and started to fold the quilt that was now on the floor.
“Well, I made you some pancakes for breakfast.” Esme replied, looking at her.
Tamia’s face frowned but then she smiled. “Esme, thank you.”
Esme and Emmett watched her as she ate her stack of pancakes before Tamia flipped open her phone and dialed a number. “Hi Charles, I’m going to be in today. Yes, the migraine is gone. I’m heading in as soon as I finish eating. Okay, see you shortly.”
“So will you be heading for home to get your truck?” asked Emmett.
“Isn’t my truck here?” Tamia asked shocked.
“Well, Edward took it home as he tended to your horses yesterday.” Jasper said.
“Great! How will I get to work?” Tamia asked.
“I’ll drive you to work and bring you back.” Esme replied, as she picked up her car keys and headed for the door. “If we hurry, we can get you to work on time. I’ll come by around 6:45pm to pick you up.”
“I usually get out at 7:30pm, but I can probably get out earlier than that.” Tamia said.
Esme smiled as they headed out to the garage and got into her red Mercedes Benz convertible and they headed for the police station.
There weren’t many conversations in the car as they headed for town. Esme looked at her as she climbed from the car. “Do you have feelings for Edward?”
Tamia looked at her in shock. “At this moment, in time, I am really not sure, Esme.” She glanced at the station. “I better go. I’ll see you at 7:35pm tonight.”
Esme nodded as she watched Tamia stride into the station before driving back down the road towards home and to let Carlisle know that Tamia’s back at work and that she’ll be picking her up tonight.
Tamia smirked as she turned to look at Charles. “I need a favor from you Charles. I had a friend drop me off today, could I get a ride to my place to pick up my truck?”
“Sure, I was heading in your direction any way. I need to talk with Carlisle Cullen about something.” Charles said.
“Okay,” Tamia replied, as they got into his squad car and drove for her home first before Charles headed off for the Cullen’s residence.
By the time, Charles got back to the station, Tamia was at her desk taking a call. He went to her side and looked at the information on the screen to see that it was a domestic dispute. “I’ll handle that, Tamia.” He jotted the information down and hurried for the door.
The rest of the day dealt with several different calls, as Tamia stepped from the station to head for home, she saw Esme standing next to her truck looking at her. Tamia smiled. “I have my truck here, Esme.”
“I noticed.” Esme replied looking at her. “So why did you get it?
“I don’t want to burden anyone with picking me up, Esme.” As Tamia got close to her, she whispered. “Especially the resident vegan vampires.”
“Tamia, we told you over again, you are not being a burden to us.” Esme replied.
“Esme, I never liked being driven about when I have my own vehicle to drive. I hated it when my dad had to drive me places because I didn’t have my license.” Tamia climbed into her truck and turned it on.
“Tamia, what if you got a migraine on the way home?”
“Esme, if that happened which would be rare, I would be pulling into the drive way of either your home or my own home.” Tamia looked at her. “Now, I need to go. I’ll talk to you later.”
Esme stood there watching her as she drove off. She was a bit shocked that Tamia didn’t wait for her. Alice had told her that Tamia doesn’t like depending on anyone for things unless it was absolutely necessary – like her migraines. She shook her head and headed for home to let the others know that she was not bringing Tamia home with her.
By the time, Tamia got home, all she wanted to do was sleep as she yawned multiple times on the drive home. She nearly almost decided to go to a hotel and sleep but she persevered and got home. She locked her truck and headed into her home locking the door as she did so. She walked over to the couch and after taking her shoes and socks off, laid down on the couch and fell fast asleep.
Stay tuned, the next one is coming.
