Chapter Thirteen.
She didn’t wake till the next morning and found herself staring up at the ceiling of her bedroom. She sat up and looked around the room trying to figure out how she got in her bed and changed from her work clothes to her nightgown. She sat on the edge of her bed before she headed for the bathroom, as she closed her bathroom door, she whispered, ‘It’s the ghosts again.’
Tamia got dressed and headed downstairs and grabbed her morning meal before stepping from the house to see Esme standing there by her car. “Hi Esme.”
“So how did you sleep?” she asked.
“I slept very well till I woke up and found myself in my bed instead of on the couch where I had first slept at.” Tamia stated. “Damn ghosts again.”
Esme smiled as she nodded. “Yeah, they must be trying to keep you comfortable.”
“I guess but it is strange.”
“What’s strange?” Esme asked.
“Ghosts didn’t start showing up till about a month ago.” Tamia replied.
Esme asked. “Are you helped by the ghosts or in the past before you moved here?”
“I didn’t have ghosts that physically helped me, just made their presence known to me that’s all.” Tamia said. “These ghosts . . . I think have human aspects to them.”
“Human aspects,” Esme looked at her curiously.
“Yes, for ghosts cannot remove clothes off of someone and yet this ghost that aided me last night did remove my work clothes and put on my nightgown.” Tamia said.
“Oh really?” asked Esme. “Could you have done it during the night and not recall doing so?”
“I’m not sure, I’m pretty good at remembering when I wake in the middle of the night, Esme.”
“Well, I better get you to the station then, Tamia.” Esme smiled.
“I’m taking my truck, Esme, besides you know I do not like to be a burden on anyone.” Tamia replied, as she walked down the steps towards her truck.
“Why don’t you take your video camera and set it up to catch the ‘pixie’ in action, Tamia.” Esme replied, as she climbed into her car and drove off.
Tamia looked at her as she drove down the driveway. She snapped her fingers and hurried off to her living room to get her video camera out and set it on her dresser under some clothes pointed towards her bed. She headed for her truck and drove for work.
It was another long day at the station before she headed for home. She took care of her horses and then fed her stomach before she headed to the couch and fell deep into sleep.
~~~~~~~~
The next morning, Tamia woke up under the covers of her bed. She sat up and looked around to find if the ‘ghost’ had left the camera alone, as she walked over to the camera and stopped the recording and rewound the video to view who carried her to her room and changed her clothes. She looked shocked at who it was as she looked at the screen. She knew she had to invite them over and show them the tape that she did and confront them.
Ring!
Tamia picked up the phone. “Hello? Hi Esme, yes, I was in my bed instead of the couch. Could you bring your family over for a video tonight? Okay, I’ll be here at 8pm. Bye.”
Later that night, the Cullens arrived at Tamia’s home and walked in to see her standing by the TV set with the video camera attached to the TV. Carlisle looked at her.
“I’ll explain why I’ve summoned your family here, Carlisle, after you view this video I recorded last night.” Tamia replied.
Tamia pressed play on her camera as the video played on the TV. Alice looked down at her hands; Edward also looked down at his hands as Tamia halted the video revealing that both Alice and Edward was within Tamia’s bedroom. Edward was carrying Tamia into her room with Alice opening up the bed to Tamia. “I have found my two ghosts - Alice and Edward.”
Alice looked at her. “It was his idea, Tamia.”
Edward nodded. “I saw you sleeping on the couch and talked to Alice about moving you to your bed so you would be comfortable.”
Esme looked over at her two kids. “You two are so thoughtful.”
“Yes, but as thoughtful as they were, they made me doubt my sanity.” Tamia stated, looking at them both.
Edward looked at her. “Doubt? What do you mean by that?”
“At first, I thought I was losing it but then one night I felt something strange or saw something. But what it was I was not very sure.” Tamia replied.
“What was it?” Alice asked.
“I woke in the middle of the night and I felt something or someone holding me. I ran my hand over what I had thought was an arm to find cold and then nothing but air.” Tamia said.
Edward bit his lower lip. “That was me. You had partially awakened when I was carrying you up one night and I put you in bed and you touched my arm.”
Carlisle looked over at them both. “Edward, Alice please do not that again. You had her very worried about her mind.”
“Yes dad.” They replied.
Carlisle stood up and looked at Tamia. “I will make sure that they will not be doing something like this again, Tamia. You have my apologies.”
“That is okay. As long as they didn’t hurt me, I really do not mind. It was the fact that they didn’t leave a note for me letting me know. But you best be off now.” Tamia replied.
Emmett looked at her. “So what are you doing for Christmas?”
“My family is coming here to spend Christmas with me.” Tamia replied. “Which will make it nine hundred times worse for me since my folks are bringing my older brother with them.”
“Why’s that?” asked Emmett.
“Well, my brother and I do not like each other because of what I’ll be gaining on my 40th birthday and he won’t.” Tamia replied.
“Because you have the skills that he doesn’t,” Emmett asked. Tamia nodded. “He should at least be grateful that his father doesn’t kill him outright knowing that he does not have the abilities.”
“I told him that but my brother does not wish to hear it. All he wants is the lifespan to be able to do everything that he wants to do. But he is such a downer; Jasper would have a hard time not being pissed off at him.” Tamia replied.
“Why’s that?” Jasper asked.
“He can drain the whole room of happiness with a scowl. He does not want anyone to be happy or even to laugh in his presence. We would laugh about something loudly and he would come stomping down the stairs snapping off at us about waking him up from a sound sleep when in fact he leaves his doors partially open and he sleeps extremely heavy at night when he does sleep and he sleeps like the dead most of the time.” Tamia said.
“Sleeps like the dead?” asked Carlisle.
Tamia nodded. “He would sleep through a phone ringing in the same room as he is and yet when I lived at home he would have his door a crack and any loud noise within the living room would bring him out in a rage screaming at us to keep it down.”
“That is one strange brother you have, Tamia.” Jasper replied.
“That’s not even half of it. Gregory is by what the Volturi would call not acceptable in the ranks of vampires.” Tamia said.
Edward nodded. “His temper would blow the cover that we all have about being vampires if he was one.”
“Oh yes, his temper would flare up and he could do some serious ass damage to anything that he was around.” Tamia stated.
“And that would blow the cover of the vampires to the world.” Carlisle stated.
“Yes and my dad asked the Volturi if he could turn his eldest son. But when they found out what kind of temper he had, they denied my father’s request and only permitted me to become a vampire as I was more tuned to the ways of the vampires.” Tamia stated.
“So what did your brother say about that turn of events?” Jasper asked.
“The dining room chairs and table had to be replaced because of it.” Tamia replied.
“Oh boy,” Jasper whispered.
“And the thing is when dad told him that he would have to pay for the replacement, he threw another fit which destroyed another table and couple more chairs. Dad knew Gregory’s bank account as he had put money into it several times. So he went in and removed the amount to replace the damaged tables and chairs.”
“So what happened when he learned that his father removed his money?” Emmett asked.
“Oh he blew his top again, but dad used his strength against his eldest son and told him that he is only a breath away from being slaughtered by the Volturi.”
“Did that work?” asked Edward, as he walked into the room bringing Tamia a glass of water.
“Not really, my dad had to get Aro on the phone and got Gregory chastised by the leader of the Volturi telling him that if he does not behave there will be a contract out on his head.” Tamia said, as she took a sip.
“Now that had to keep him under control.” Carlisle asked.
Tamia shook her head. “Nope, he started to send glares at us if we laugh at anything that was on the TV and even if we talk about anything, he would glare at us to shut up. Dad told him that he does not rule this house but yet as soon as dad leaves the house to go to his special room during the day, Gregory decides that he rules the daytime and makes the house very cold and fearful of what could come from him.”
“So he makes everyone remain silent then?” asked Esme.
“Yes, he is very dour and really unhappy with his life.” Tamia replied, as she walked to the window and looked out.
They wondered why did she not say why, but they knew not to pry and let her say it if she wanted to. Jasper could feel her anger and her sorrow. “Tamia, why are you so angry and yet so sad?”
Tamia didn’t glance behind her. “He wants everything handed to him on a silver platter. He expects mom and dad to give him what he whines for. But when it comes to this, they will not give it to him. I wish he would understand that he can do anything in his life but be what we are. He wants to be what we are, ”
“And that makes him dour?” asked Carlisle.
“Yes. He wants what I will be having next year, but with his temper, the best thing to do is not grant his desire as Aro informed him that if he is changed, he will be hunted down and destroyed.”
“Whoa, that is a big threat Aro landed on him.” Edward whistled.
“What did he say about it?” Jasper asked.
“He threw a temper screaming at Aro for not letting him have what should rightfully be his.”
Carlisle shook his head. “I bet Aro was not pleased.”
“Indeed he wasn’t. He called me and told me to be on alert for the call as it was going to be a personal call if he steps seriously out of line.” Tamia said, as she glanced out of her eye to look at him.
“So you could be told that your brother will be slain?” asked Esme.
“Yes and sadly, the order would come to me to do.” Tamia replied.
“You?” asked Emmett.
“Yes, I’m a hunter for them. I go to the location of the nomad or the vegan vampire and pay them a visit to see if they will return to the path of the rest of the clans.” Tamia stated.
“And if they do not?”
“I kill them without a second chance.” Tamia replied. “Or if I have permission to give them another chance to return to the fold and if they refuse – kill them for they had their chance and they refused.”
“Sounds fair to me, you must reap what you sow.” Edward said. He turned to his family. “I think we should return home.”
Carlisle nodded as he looked at Tamia. “Thank you for letting us, see what my son and daughter did during the night.”
They all walked out of her home back to their own home, Tamia watched as they left Esme slapping the back of Edward and Alice’s head before they got into their cars and drove for home.
That night, the ‘ghosts’ didn’t show up, which was a relief to Tamia when she woke up on the couch.
Stay tuned, the next chapter is coming.
