A/N: Welcome back friends! I try to be aware of things that may confuse my lovely overseas readers, so let me explain something real quick that will be briefly mentioned. If you are not familiar with the Lifetime network, it's a TV station aimed at ladies. They make their own movies, which are known for being very sappy and often over dramatic. They are the kind of thing you'd probably watch after a break up, while digging into some ice cream and crying lol. My sister says they are addicting. While I do enjoy some of their programs, I respectfully disagree about the movies :)
Mollie
"Saturday is definitely my favorite day of the week," Xandra said, taking a huge bite of her breakfast.
"Mmm hmm!" I agreed with my mouth full. Mom had made us warm biscuits and Amish breakfast casserole. It contained everything you could possibly want for breakfast. It had eggs, shredded hash browns, all of that good stuff. It was meaty and cheesy heavenly goodness. Stick to your ribs food, as Dad says.
I hoped that I could someday be half the cook Mom is, I've been working on it. If I'm home I almost always join Mom when she's in the kitchen. Sometimes Mom lets me make dinner by myself. Dinner for seven would be enough of a challenge, but in this family it's an even bigger one. There are three of us who eat about twice as much as the average person so really, it's more like cooking for ten.
I've had some practice at the Uley's, too. Emily is another amazing cook, I've picked up some pretty good tips from her. When a recipe calls for plain yogurt, she uses Greek instead of the regular kind for a nice and creamy finished product.
I like experimenting a little in the kitchen. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm still perfecting my omelet techniques.
I smiled to myself as I thought about how Seth is the worst judge ever. He just says everything I make is perfect, which isn't very much help when I really want to know if something tastes good or not.
I was going to see him at some point today, I was hoping sooner than later. He'd told me he was going to help out with some stuff around the house this morning, and he'd let me know when he was done. Sam and Emily don't charge him any rent to live there, all they ask is that he give a hand once in a while. He does chores like mow the lawn in the summer, and shovel the driveway in the winter.
"What do you guys have going on today?" Mom asked.
"I'm going to see Seth, I dunno when though," I said.
"We're probably going to go catch a movie," A.J. said, gesturing as Asa, who nodded.
"Aunt Rachel is taking me and Caroline shopping," Swan said.
"Nobody make any plans for tomorrow, every one of you needs to go hunting," Mom said, pointing her finger at each of us around the table.
"Swan, when is this little outing with what's his face?" Dad asked, waving his fork around.
"Dad! It's not a 'little outing.' It's a date, and his name is Nate," Swan reminded him.
"Sure, sure. When is it?" he asked again.
"It's next Saturday, he's taking me to the theater," she said, grinning broadly as she reached for the butter dish. "We're seeing Hairspray."
"Hmm," Dad said thoughtfully. "Maybe Mom and I should go see it too."
"Jake," Mom scolded him.
"Dad, no! Don't stalk us!" Swan shouted.
"We wouldn't," Mom said. "That was just a joke, that was not funny. Right Jacob?"
"Mmm hmm," he said, shoveling some more casserole into his mouth. "Just be careful about getting too close to humans," he warned once he'd swallowed. "I'm serious."
"I know, I know," Swan said.
"What movie are you guys seeing?" Xandra asked Asa.
I wondered if Seth and I went on a date, where would he take me? As Swan started rambling on to Mom about the expensive restaurant Nate was taking her to, I decided that wasn't the kind of date I would want. I'd rather do something outside. Maybe a picnic on the cliffs, the view would be awesome, and we'd already be in the perfect place for some rock climbing.
I started to debate back and forth with myself, maybe I should just ask him out. It doesn't always have to be the guy who does the asking, right?
"Mol," Mom said.
"Huh?"
"I said, are you finished with breakfast?"
I looked around and realized Dad and all my siblings were now gone from the dining room table. The room was empty except for Mom, standing next to my chair with a stack of plates in her hand. I looked down at my half eaten meal.
"Oh, not yet. I'll put my plate in the dishwasher when I'm done," I said.
Mom patted my shoulder, and headed for the kitchen.
I spent most of the morning waiting, staring out the window and wondering what Seth was doing.
There was no snow, so it would be a great day to ride my new bike over. He'd gotten it for me for Christmas, and I hadn't tried it out anywhere but here yet.
I tried to count the hours until I'd see him. I tried to guess what time he'd have gotten up, what he was doing, and how long it would take. I kept my phone in my pocket and looked at it over and over again.
It sucked.
After lunch I decided I needed to keep myself busy. I played video games with Xandra and my brothers until finally, finally my phone went off. I jumped up when I saw his name and smiling face on the screen.
"Hey!" I answered, dropping the controller and leaving the room for some privacy.
"Don't bother to hit pause or anything!" Asa yelled after me.
"Hey, you. What are you up to?" Seth asked.
"Nothing much. Are you guys all done there?" I asked.
"Yeah. We were cleaning out the basement. Sorry it took so long, I really needed a shower after that!"
Seth in the shower...yum.
"You can come over whenever you're ready, I'll be here," he said.
"I'll be outta here in five," I told him.
I hauled ass up to my room to get ready.
As I was deciding what shoes to wear, I noticed Swan standing in my doorway. She had her purse slung over her shoulder, and seemed to be on her way out the door, but she was looking at me with that annoyingly familiar, all knowing smirk.
I love my sister, but she can be a pain.
"What are you smiling at?" I asked her.
"I know something you don't know," she sang.
"Who cares?"
"Oh, I think you'll care," she said confidently. "I think you'll care a lot."
"Are you gonna tell me, or not?" I said.
"You and Seth are gonna have the place all to yourselves today," she said.
"Nuh uh. Everybody is at home, so you don't know shit," I insisted.
"I know that they all have to help clean out the basement today," she whispered. "Then they are leaving. If Seth said they are done, I bet they'll be gone by the time you get there."
Damn her and her super hearing.
I grabbed her by her arm, yanked her into my room and closed the door behind her.
"Oh my God, Mollie. When is the last time you cleaned in here?" she asked, looking around in horror.
I ignored that comment, and addressed the previous ones instead.
"How do you know all this?" I demanded. "A dream?"
"Nah. I found out the old fashioned way, Dove told me at school. She was pissed that she had to help," she said. "She said after, everybody but Seth was going to her grandparents house. So that means, you two are gonna be all alone."
I raised my eyebrows at her.
"Exactly," she said.
"Do Mom and Dad know this?" I whispered, stepping closer to her. She shrugged. "Well don't say anything to them!"
She pretended to zip her lips and throw away the key, as far as telling our parents was concerned anyway.
"Do you think he'll try to make a move?" she pried.
"I have no idea," I mumbled. I'd thought this was just like any other day. Was Swan right? Could this be the day?
"Has he ever invited you over when he's there alone before?" she asked.
"Not that I can think of. No, I'd remember that," I said.
"Don't you think that could have some significance?" she asked with a sly grin.
"I don't know," I said, even though the possibility of it made my heart race. I felt so overwhelmed all of the sudden. Did he invite me over because he knew we'd be all alone? "I don't know," I said again, "but I feel like I should put on a different outfit."
I looked down at my ratty t-shirt and oversized jeans. Today may call for something a little more special.
"Oh, Mollie. I've been waiting for this moment for so long. My closet is all yours," Swan said.
Seth
As Mollie grew and changed, my feelings for her did, too. I'd watched her grow from fragile, angelic newborn, to unstoppable toddler, to fearless, and rambunctious child. Finally, she was a bold, outspoken, incredibly gorgeous young woman. I'd fallen deeply, and so hopelessly in love with her. I'd always loved her of course, but I couldn't have imagined how different actually being in love with her would be. It was even better. I knew she felt it too. Waiting for her to be ready hadn't been the hard part, it was waiting for her parents to be ready. I'd given them my word, and I wouldn't make a move without their blessing. The fact that Jake is my alpha only seemed to make things more complicated.
For the time being, I just tried to act like everything was normal, and enjoy being with her as I always had. There didn't seem to be anything else I could do. Not being around her just wasn't and option. It was awkward sometimes, especially around Jake. No matter who was around us, I spent a lot of time trying to hide my shamefully inappropriate hard ons. No activity was safe. I could hardly stand sharing a meal with her anymore, which was something we did often. Every time she opened her mouth, I'd see her tongue and wonder what it would feel like against my own. I even got turned on while helping her do the dishes, her little hands were just so pretty. The possibilities of what she could do with them were endless, I'd be putty in them for sure. In my head, we'd been together a hundred times, a hundred different ways.
We still greeted each other with a hug, and parted with one just like always. Now it felt so different, and new, and wonderful. I'd hold her just a little longer, but never as long as I actually wanted to. She'd press herself to me tightly, we'd breathe each other in until I managed to tear myself away.
"Hey Seth?" Emily called from downstairs.
"Yeah?" I shouted, jogging to my door. I opened it and poked my head out to see her standing at the bottom of the stairs.
"We are gonna head out. If you and Mollie get hungry there's still lots of chilli in the fridge," she said.
"Oh, cool. Thanks."
Sam passed by the doorway and waved at me, car keys in hand.
"See ya tonight," he said with a wink.
Did he just freaking wink at me?
Why would he wink at me?
Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to invite her over when nobody was home. What if I couldn't control myself? I wasn't thinking clearly. I should have asked her if she wanted to hang out at her house instead. We'd never been totally alone before, but we'd been apart for two days, I just wanted to see her so badly. I really missed her.
I stood at the only window in the attic and waited, wondering what was taking her so long.
I do like it up here, it's a decent setup. I like to think of it as a studio apartment. I've got a couch that folds out into a bed, an old easy chair, and a TV. I eat meals downstairs with Sam and Emily and the girls, but I have snacks around. The rare times nobody is home, I often go downstairs just for a little change of scenery. I use the computer and cruise the fridge, enjoy the quiet that could rarely be found.
Why am I just standing up here?
I'm obviously not thinking clearly, that's what Mollie does to me.
I thundered down the stairs. I had to get ready for her, and there was no way we'd be spending the evening in my bedroom. That would be far too tempting, and might give her the wrong idea. I needed to find something totally safe for us to do.
"Yeah, right," I muttered to myself.
Movies, we'll watch a movie...downstairs, not upstairs. We'd have a much safer selection if we watched something of Sam and Emily's. The only ones they had were Emily's chick flicks, and kids stuff. I'd let her pick, like always, and I knew she'd pick something animated. That meant no raunchy humor, sex scenes, or supreme awkwardness. Mollie doesn't like sappy romantic comedies. If she did, I'd watch them with her, but she doesn't so score for me, right?
I got her favorite cookies out of my secret hiding place, there were plenty of other people in this house who liked them, too. These were just for her though. I set them on the coffee table in front of the couch, and stood out the window, staring, and waiting for my Mollie. I could hear her humming to herself as she peddled her bike, and I smiled. When she came into view, I actually gasped.
Those were some tight jeans!
Her legs weren't long, but they were nice. Shapely. Yes, yes. Very nice. Those jeans must be new. I'd remember seeing her in those. That low cut sweater wasn't bad either. Damn. That must be new, too.
I shook my head to clear it of any perverted thoughts, but when she came to the door, I abandoned caution for a minute to throw my arms around her. I couldn't help myself.
"I missed you," she said, as I lifted her off the ground.
"I missed you, too."
Inside, she headed for the steps as usual, but I stopped her.
"I was thinking we could watch a movie. We can hang out down here, everybody else is gone so we can watch the big TV!"
I tried to act like it was the most awesome thing ever, but she didn't buy it. Well, it had always worked when she was a kid.
"I like your room though," she said brightly, and went right upstairs.
"I...I just thought..." I stood there, mumbling pointlessly for a minute, until I followed her upstairs.
That was where things started to go wrong.
Since I hadn't planned on bringing Mollie up there, I hadn't folded up my bed back into a couch. She sat right on it, and smiled at me. It wasn't just a normal smile. It was a real "come and get it" smile. But I couldn't.
"Aren't you gonna pick out a movie?" I asked her nervously.
"Oh, yeah!" She jumped up and went over to my dresser where I kept my stack of movies. While she was busy, I quickly folded up my bed and replaced the cushions so that we could sit on the couch.
She shuffled through them, and of course picked out the comedy with the most dirty jokes, and the most sex scenes.
"Are you sure, Mol?" I asked.
"I'm sure," she said, and waggled her eyebrows at me.
Oh, man.
I curled up in the corner of the couch, and she sat right next to me in the middle as the movie started.
I was uncomfortable immediately.
The very first scene was a couple making out in a car.
Great.
As the girl was getting felt up, a cop knocks on the steamy window, and of course hilarity ensues, none of which I was paying attention to. Mollie was intentionally sticking out her chest, and I was trying so hard not to look. I took just a peek out of the corner of my eye.
After glancing over at my Mollie in all her perky perfection, I had to tightly hold a pillow in my lap. Judging by her smirk, I don't think it escaped her notice.
I tried to think of the least sexy things on the planet.
Nuns.
Dead puppies.
Cancer.
Root canals with no Novocaine.
Public bathrooms...in gas stations. There we go.
After that, things were okay for a little while. The movie was funny, we laughed together until the virginity jokes started.
"Seth?"
"Hmm?" I said, looking over at her.
"Can I ask you a question?"
This is not going to be good.
"Okay," I said hesitantly.
"Are you a virgin?"
"Oh, Jeeze," I said.
Why is she making this so hard for me?
Okay, poor choice of words.
"What? Tell me," she purred, moving closer to me.
"I just...I don't know, Mollie."
"You don't know?" she teased, poking my side playfully.
"Okay, okay. I am."
Because I've been waiting for you my whole life, and there could never be anyone else but you.
"It's okay, you don't have to be embarrassed," she said.
"I'm not," I insisted.
"I'm a virgin, too. Nothing wrong with it," she said.
"I know that," I said to both.
I tried to go back to watching the movie, but she wasn't having that.
"Do you think that if two virgins got together, it would kind of be better that way?" she asked.
"Huh?" I said, still hugging the pillow on my lap.
Nuns.
Gas station bathrooms.
Nuns using gas station bathrooms.
"Because neither of them would know what they are doing, and then they could learn together. Kind of...teach each other" she whispered.
Shit, shit, shit!
The way she was looking at me...it was killing me.
She moved even closer, and put her hand on my shoulder.
Please, Mollie. Please back off. Don't make me do this to you. Please. I won't be able to stand it. If I let something happen, Jake will see it in my head. I don't know what he would do. You might be kept away from me, for who knows how long, and I'll die without you. I can't risk that.
"Mollie?"
"Yes?" she said, leaning in. Her face was only a few inches away, when she parted her lips I knew what she wanted. Her eyes closed halfway.
Fuck! I screamed in my head.
I nearly had to punch myself in the crotch to stop myself from finding out how soft her lips were.
It was torture.
Not right now, but soon, sweetie, soon.
"Maybe we should just watch the movie?" I said in a shaky voice.
Her eyes flew wide open as her face went from surprise, to hurt, to anger. She stood up off the couch.
"Now you want to watch it? You didn't seem to want to when I picked it out!" she said in an accusatory voice.
"I just...Mollie please don't take it the wrong way. I respect you."
I respect you, and love you, and adore you more then you have any idea. Someday, I'll make love to you and show you how beautiful you are to me.
"What if I don't want to be respected?"
"Maybe I...just let me talk to your Dad-"
"Are you serious?" she shrieked.
"There are things about the pack that you don't understand," I said as gently as I could.
"I highly doubt that!" She started ticking off the members of her family in the pack on her fingers, getting louder with each one.
"My dad, my brother, my twin!"
"Mollie...I just...I..." I couldn't do anything but stutter.
"I don't like being lead on, I'm out of here. Have fun watching movies alone!"
Oh, no.
With a sweep of her arm, she knocked over all my DVDs and they clattered to the floor. The discs popped out of the cases, and rolled and bounced in every direction.
"Mollie, it's not like that! Come on, kiddo."
"I am not your fucking kiddo!" she screamed.
I chased her down the stairs, and out of the house, begging her not to go. But I couldn't give her a good reason, the real reason. So I stood there like an idiot and watched my heart pedal away on her purple bike, feeling like my own was being dragged behind her in the mud.
Renesmee
It was so peaceful in the house with all of the kids out and about. It had been so nice to be able to just sit and talk with him as we ate dinner. After we enjoyed some dessert, we ended up on the couch, enjoying each other. As hands and lips wandered, we heard the front door open, then slam. I quickly slid off Jake's lap and straightened out my shirt just as Mollie burst into the room, her face streaked with tears.
For just a second, I'd been slightly disappointed when I heard the door and realized our romantic night had probably come to an end. When I saw her face though, Jake's lover had to move out of the way for Mollie's Mom.
"Oh no, honey. What is it?" I said, standing up.
The poor thing kept trying to talk, but she couldn't without starting to cry again. After a few attempts she said, "I want to go live in Montana."
Jake and I looked at each other in shock.
"What?" he said, "Why?"
"I just...I don't really like it here. I miss Grandma and Grandpa too much," she sobbed.
Jake stood up also, I reached over and brushed my fingers against his wrist to show him my thoughts.
I don't know what's going on here, but I'm going to find out. There is definitely something she isn't telling us.
Jake squeezed my hand in silent agreement.
"Mollie, what happened?" I asked.
"Nothing happened, I just can't live here anymore. I know Nanna won't mind." Her voice sounded so hoarse.
"That isn't the point though," Jake said. "We want you here with us."
"It doesn't have to be forever, just a little while," she begged.
"I don't understand, what's changed?" I pressed.
"Nothing!" she insisted. "Just...please, I need to go to Montana."
"Mollie, there's no way. Just tell us what's going on," Jake said.
Mollie ran up the stairs, and to her room, slamming the door behind her.
"What the hell?" Jake whispered to me frantically.
"Stay here," I told him, squeezing his hand before I stepped away.
In the short amount of time it took me to get upstairs, she already had her suitcase on her bed, and blinded by tears, she was throwing clothes into it without even looking at them first.
"Mollie," I said, prying a t-shirt out of her shaking hands.
"No!" she shrieked at me, grabbing it back and shoving it into the suitcase.
"You are not going anywhere, just tell me what happened!" I said.
"It doesn't matter, it can't be fixed! I know you think everything will be fine after a little heart to heart chat, but this isn't a Lifetime movie. Some things just can't be changed!"
"Okay. Like what?" I asked as gently as I could. I let her keep packing. Maybe if she thought I was going to let her go to Montana, she'd talk to me.
"Like...like peoples feelings," she said, going through her shoes.
"Who's feelings?"
She shook her head rapidly back and forth as she jammed a couple pairs of shoes into the suitcase.
"Seth's?" I asked.
At the mention of his name, she burst into tears again. She let me pull her away from her packing and hold her as the sobs shook her body.
"Tell me, sweetheart," I said.
"I'm...I'm just...his friend's kid! He'll never feel...the same way I do," she wailed. "I really thought he was the one for me. I can't be around him any more! It hurts, Mom. Please...please just let me go!"
My heart sank, the pangs of guilt ripped through me so harshly I almost started to cry with her. We'd waited too long. It happened so gradually, how could we have known for sure when she'd crossed that line? We didn't even know where it was. My kids and I don't have some magical birthday like when humans turn eighteen and you are suddenly an adult. That space between girl and woman is such a gray area. How do you pick the day where you say, "So, do you feel you are fully matured, or do you have a few more months to go?"
I guess not all young imprints figure it out quite the way I had.
Every relationship is different, we shouldn't have assumed.
I've read countless books, blogs, and articles on parenting, trying to be the best mom I can. There just aren't any books called How to Raise an Imprint. If there was, I'd have found it. We had to wing it.
"Please, Mom," she moaned. "I can't do it anymore, he doesn't want me!"
"Not everything is what it seems, sweetie" I said, probably sounding a little cryptic. "It will work out, I promise."
I'm going to make sure of it.
"Can I just be alone for a minute?" she requested, wiping her eyes with the backs of her hands.
That was okay with me. I had a phone call to make.
A/N: Well, I'm sure lots of you have questions. I'm sure the biggest one is, how could Mollie not know, does she really have no idea? That will be answered, don't worry. I don't mind a bit answering your questions to clarify things that have already happened, so ask away. However, if you are asking about the future, you'll have to try and get Swan to tell you because I've gotta keep a couple things up my sleeve, right? ;)If you are confused at all about the way Seth and Mollie were acting, think of it this way. Seth is thinking long term. Would Mollie really be kept from him? That's one thing we won't find out, because Seth would never risk it. The important thing there is that he thinks it could happen. Mollie is a young adult, and young adults can be impulsive sometimes. As much as we love her, Mollie is a touch impulsive by nature anyways. In Seth's room, she was thinking about the right here, and the right now.
Til next time, be safe ;)
