She was barely aware of the creaking of a door opening and then closing, footsteps, and then silence. Trying to stretch, but feeling another slight cramp, she called out, "Smee, would you mind getting me another cup of tea?" When she heard only silence, she rolled over to face the person who had entered. Her heart sped up rapidly when she saw the masculine lines of the captain outlined against the light streaming in through the window. His hat was in his hands, and his hair tumbled recklessly onto his shoulders. His posture was stiff and proud as he gazed out the window. "Captain, I...I wasnt expecting you." He finally turned to look at her, his eyes bore a haunted look. He took several unsure steps towards her, his voice a raspy whisper.
"Am I back to being Captain again? Oh Wendy, how did we ever end up here?" His voice sounded ragged, like it pained him to speak. "I saw you...you...you killed that boy." Wendy cut herself off, the memory bringing hot tears to her eyes. "Over a game. Thats all was to any of you, just a stupid game. They are children, for God's sake!" "There was a point in my life where that act would cause me no remorse, no guilt. I killed without mercy because that is who I am." James nearly yelled. "When I saw them all on the ship, I knew that they had come for you. I simply couldn't stand the thought that they would take you from me. You were mine, never Pan's." Hook sounded furious, and Wendy recoiled in fear. "You never even asked me what I wanted!" she practially spat back at him. "I know, and I am sorry. But I honestly dont know what I would do...if you had left with him, whether you went willingly or not. I wanted you with me, even if you hated it, I..." The proud Captain bowed his head in defeat. "I watched you there, at the camp, every minute. I wondered if maybe there was some part of me that desired your happiness. I am a selfish man though, and your happiness there only made me more miserable. Once you had settled back in, I told myself that I would simply kill you and Pan, that I would rather see you dead then with him." "Who ever said I was happy? I was confused! I didnt know where I belonged!" Wendy cried out. "They wanted a mother, they didnt care if she was me or not. You only wanted a pawn for your twisted vengeance game!" "But you were so much more to me! When I slept, you were there. When I woke, I felt like I had to see you, to watch your every move, hear every word you spoke. When I heard you cry out on that beach, I realized at that moment that I could never hurt you, never leave you. I thought that I was losing you, and it was all my fault." Wendy was looking down at her pillow, so Hook moved forward to sit on the bed next to her. When she finally looked up, tears were running down her cheeks. "I thought I was dying. It hurt so much. I was...I was with child" Wendy broke off into a sob. "I know. I should never have let you leave, even if it meant killing everyone in my path, I should never have let you leave me." "But I hurt you!" Wendy shouted, not understanding the man sitting in front of her. "No more than I deserved. I am a monster Wendy. I am a killer, a pirate, a criminal." He dropped his hand and stared uncertainly at the floor. "You deserve more than I could ever offer you. That night when we spoke on the hull of the ship, when you saw every part of me, I saw no fear or loathing in your eyes. For the first time in years, I felt like a man. You have no idea how much that I wish I could be that person for you." After a long pause, Wendy whispered into his ear so quietly that he barely heard her. "You are that man." Hook leaned forward and clasped Wendys slender hand, while he planted a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Wendy, it is unfair of me to keep you here with me. You deserve to be where you are happiest. If it means that I have to watch you from a distance, I will do so. Just say the word and I will leave you be." "Now I have let you speak without interruption, now you give me the same chance." Wendy spoke, her spirited nature returning into her words, and her strength slowly returning. "You made me your captive by force, you were rude and even hurtful at times, and you seemed to have a heart of ice. When I look at you now though, I see someone who has suffered but has still survived. As bitter as you are from what life has dealt you, you are also caring and gentle though you dont like to show it. As much as I hated you at times, I had to admit to myself that I was falling in love with you." Green eyes locked with blue, as James looked at her in surprise. Wendy placed her finger over his lips to keep him from speaking. "I realize that you see yourself as a monster, but I see a man who has suffered, who has been hurt, and who still hurts. You are human because you feel. As dangerous as you are I have never felt more safe in my entire life that I do right now. I need you James. If I am stuck here for the rest of my life, I do not want to be here alone. You understand me in a way that no one else here does. Please, let me come back with you. I will stay wherever I must, but I need to be close to you. Without you, I felt scared and lost. I am sorry that it took me thinking that I was dying to realize that." James was silent. Wendy thought for a moment that she had made a mistake, and would be rebuked, so she held her breath. He looked up at her, emotions that she could not interpret warring in his eyes. He took in a quick breath like he was preparing to speak, but instead quickly captured her mouth with his. This kiss was no gentle peck, but a kiss in which he poured all the passion of his being into claiming her, kindling flames of desire within Wendy. When he drew back, he clasped the side of her face with his good hand. "I..." "Back away from her Hook. Leave her alone, or I will kill you for real this time." Wendy heard the threatening, yet still adolescent voice of Pan cut through the air in the cabin, as a shadow appeared behind Hook. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
