On to the story
------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucy looked on edge. If course she should, The task that she and Tumnus were going to take on was something that no future parents should be asked. Tumnus wanted to ease her mind but how? They both knew they were doing the right thing, deep down. It made walking this forest path harder than it should be.
Lucy trudged forward through a few bushes. She was on the verge of tears as she thought about it more and more. Her silence made Tumnus, who was behind her, worry even more.
“Lucy? You’re going to bust if you keep things inside like you are.”
“I’m not.” Lucy turned her head, looking at him. “I just have a lot of things on my mind.”
“So talk to me about it. Don’t just keep it inside you.” Tumnus sighed.
“I’m scared alright? I don’t want to,” She stopped and leaned her self up against a tree. “I don’t want to lose our baby.” She shook her head. “But I don’t want Narnia to be hurt anymore. I want to do what is necessary but it is scary, like I said.”
“I know it is scary.” He walked up beside her. “I don’t want to lose our baby either.” Tumnus took her and in his. “I want all of us to live and have a very happy life. I want all of Narnia to be peaceful.” He looked saddened. “I just don’t see how that would be possible if Aslan told us the truth behind the legend.”
“I know Tumnus.” She hugged him. “Believe me , I know. It doesn’t make any less scarier.”
“Something has to work out.” Tumnus hugged her softly. His chun rested against the top of her head. “Keep hope , remember?”
“Hope is fleeting fast.” Lucy sighed. “But I am trying.”
“That’s all I can ask of you to do.” He cupped his hand under her chin, pulling back from the hug slightly. “In the end, I know you and I will do what we feel is right. No one can blame us for that. So don’t get down about it.”
“How do you know?” Lucy looked up at him. Her eyes were watery and she could not smile. “How do you really know? I could get so greedy.”
“Lucy.” Tumnus placed a finger over her lips. “Do you remember what we shared together? Just before we left?”
“Yes.” The red in her cheeks made ut very clear that she did.”It was beyond anything I can describe.”
“We are one. Alone we are separate but together our two hearts make one.” Tumnus took her hand in his and kissed the top of her knuckles. “Soul sharing is something so much more than a completely, amazing, powerful mating experience. It is our hearts revealed.” He smiled. “So do you really think I could lie to you or that you could hide something from me?”
“Not if you put it that way.” Lucy smiled. “I really do Love you Tumnus.”
“And I you.” He smiled. She was smiling. That made him very happy. “So do you believe me now? No matter what happens, in the end, things will be okay. We will do what we feel is right. We will do our best to help and we will succeed.”
“I believe you.” His Lucy smiled. “You are my rock. Do you remember what I said a while back? That I would be a mess without you?”
“Yes I do.” He stroked her cheek gently. “I remember it well.”
“I still mean it. I would be lost without you.”
“I feel you would have pulled through like the true and valiant queen that you are, but, since I am already here,”Tumnus grinned. “I am more than happy to make things easier for you.”
“Yes, you do well at it too.” She chuckled. “You can always make me smile when I am feeling down.”
“That is what husbands do.”
“Even if your wife makes your life hard?” She asked quickly.
“There is only one thing you make hard.” He grinned. “You know exactly what that is to.”
“Tumnus!” She gasped. “You are naughty.”
“Yes, I am.”
“At least you admit it.” She leaned up on her tippy toes, kissing him. “And I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
“That is .” A whisper from a far spoke.
They were so loving together. You could see the happiness around them, literally! The shade of Lucy knelt down in the bushes, shaking her head. What was she thinking? She didn’t hear the steps behind her.
“That is what?” Peter knelt down beside her. “That is disgusting? Or that attract you?”
“Peter!” Shade Lucy growled in a whisper. “What are you doing here?”
“Father sent me to help you. Some one has to carry her back after you catch her.” Peter grinned. “So you can go hug up on the faun and kill him.”
“I know my orders Peter.” She pushed him down so he hell on his bottom. “Just stay out of my way until I need you.” Shade Lucy commanded him.
“Aren’t you getting bossy.” He pushed him self up. “Just hurry it up.”
“Will you not rush me? Can’t you see those two are a little busy? If we make a noise to distract them, they will both come. We don’t want that. We want her by her self.” Shade Lucy glared at him.”Don’t you dare get impatient on me either and ruin this.”
“I’m not going to ruin it.” Peter glowered. “How can two people be so,” He looked at Tumnus and Lucy kissing. “Ick.”
“Aww, is poor Peter afraid of girl germs?” Shade Lucy smirked. “At least you’re not incest like Susan and Edmund.”
“I’m starting to believe you about those two.” Peter rolled his eyes. “They always get defensive.”
“Look.” Shade Lucy shhd him. “They are moving. We follow, but quietly.”
“Yes mistress.” Peter mocked her. “Are we forgetting who is oldest here?”
“Are we forgetting who father put in charge?” Shade Lucy shook her head.”and yeah, you are older, but only physically.” She smirked. “Lets go.”
“You.” Peter wanted to stab her with his dagger. “I will pay you back for that.”
“Right, Let me mark that down on your ‘Things you’ve never accomplished’ list.” She turned, her hands were on her hips. “Oh yes. That’s right. That is the only list you have.”
“You are so lucky that father wants you alive.” Peter was fuming.
“Are you done threatening me yet?” She yawned. “Because it is getting boring just standing here listing to you blow hot air out of your arse.”
“Can we go?”
Peter was tired of having to take her abuse. Shade Lucy just grinned. She won, again. It was so easy to do. Unless it was Edmund. He was a bit harder to corner into something.
“Lets.” She said it in her best sing song voice. “Off we go. Come on boy.”
She walked after the light Lucy and Tumnus. The two were making good time actually. Kale had not caught up to them they noticed. They really didn’t know if had left camp yet in truth. Theothers didn’t know he was following either but they were already hatching out their plan so it didn’t matter either way.
“Tumnus?” His Lucy blinked. “Did you hear that?”
A clicking sound was echoing around them. Tumnus’s ears flicked forward. It was feint but he could hear it.
“Shh.” Tumnus moved beside her. “Stay here. I am going to check it out.”
“Tumnus!” Lucy gasped. “No, you can’t leave me.”
“Lucy, I have to see what it is. I won’t stray too far. Don’t worry.” He kissed her. “I don’t want you hurt either.”
“Tumnus I can,”
“No.” He hugged her. “You can’t. Please Lucy. Stay here.”
“Fine.” She sighed. “But don’t expect this all of the time.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t.” He nodded. “Stay right here.”
“I am.”Light Lucy grunted. “Hurry back.”
“I will.” He pulled away from her. “You know I will.”
Tumnus went to follow the clicking sound. It was being made by Peter in the distance. Lucy had figured that Tumnus would do this. He was protective of her, of that person. The shade of Lucy might even have been a little jealous. She was never loved so deeply, not by anyone. Seeing it made her heart feel things that it had never felt before.
That kind of love was directed at someone else that looked like her. She watched the light Lucy. Something boiled under her conscious. It made that shaded heart of her lurch forward.
‘What is wrong with me!’ She scolded her self mentally. ‘Get out there and get her.’
“Hello?” Lucy heard a bush and rustle of leave. “Tumnus?”
“Hardly.” Shade Lucy stepped out. “Surprise.”
“W..who?” She gasped. The light Lucy stumbled back at the sight of her self. “What’s the matter? Didn’t you know?”
“T..Tum..”
Light Lucy was silenced with a quick hand at her mouth. The shade Lucy could move very swiftly when she wanted to. Light Lucy grabbed at the girls hands. It might have been a fair fight had it not been for Peter coming back around. He was grabbing Light Lucy from behind. She tried to scream but it was muffled. The two shades regarded each other before Peter gave his sister a nod.
“He will be around shortly. Make it quick.” Peter commanded her now.
“Just,” Shade Lucy looked from Peter to the tears in light Lucy’s eyes. For a moment her heart thumped hard and she had to swallow it back down with just as hard a gulp. “Just get her out of here.”
“Yes Mistress.” Peter mocked her again. “We are gone.”
The two vanished into a their gate way of black misty like shadow. Shade Lucy closed her eyes. Why was that so hard? Her hand went over her chest. Her heart was beating ninety miles an hour. She was trembling!
“Oh gods!” She turned and shook her head. “Pull your self together.”
The shade Lucy was never this confused. She only watched them together for a couple of hours! She tried to slap her self again. The mental scoldings just didn’t seem to be enough and then she heard him.
“Lucy!” Tumnus ran up beside her. She felt his arms wrap around her. “They the sky.”
He said her name with such desire. She almost buckled in her knees but she caught her self. The way he held her. She felt every ounce of love from him for her. Then again, not really her. He loved someone else that was the first her. This wasn’t fair!
“Tumnus.”
She spoke his name for perhaps the first time. She was a part of the real Lucy.. Her shade was taken from shadows that were stolen. Her mind and heart were the same. She was just born and raised under different circumstances. Was her soul also connected to his?
“Lucy? You’re crying.” Tumnus brushed his fingers over the salty tears. These were the first tears to ever fall over this Lucy’s cheeks. “What happened? Are you alright?”
“Oh Tumnus.” She was panting and looking up at him. “Why did you have to be this way?”
“Be what way? Lucy I don’t understand.”
“Kiss me Tumnus.” She gulped and had to shove her heart back down into it’s proper place. “Please?”
There was something different about her. He couldn’t quite tell. This was Lucy but somehow she felt strange. She was acting even more strange. Lucy pushed her self against him. Her eyes, wet with tears, glistened into the early rising sun above.
“Lucy.” He was nervous? Why in all of Narnia would he be nervous? “Lucy I.”
“Tumnus Please.” Her voice sounded so needy for him. “Just once before we go.”
He leaned down and kissed her. It was plain at first. The kiss between them felt just as strange as she was acting. Her arms wrapped around him and she kissed back. This deepened the moment for them. Tumnus was shaking as he held her close to him.
“N..no!” she pulled away crying. She turned so she didn’t have to look at him. “Why!?”
Tumnus stumbled back. He was confused by everything she did. Lucy shook her head. She hugged her self for only a moment before turning around to face him again. The tears were falling freely now.
“Why did you have to be so,” She couldn’t say it at first. “So loving? Why does my heart want to be suddenly warmed by you? What magic is this that you have over me!?”
“Lucy! What is wrong!” Tumnus gasped. He looked at her again. “Peter.” He whispered. Something was dawning on the faun. “You are,”
“I am Lucy.” She shook her head. “And I am sorry for what I have to do now. Please know that I do this with a woeful heart.”
“You aren’t my Lucy.” Tumnus looked around quickly.
“She isn’t here.” Shade Lucy reached to her side. “I owe you so much, Tumnus.”
“Why are you doing this to us!? Where is she!? Bring her back here!” Tumnus panted. “And why do you owe me if you are the one who kidnaped my Lucy?”
“Because, for once, I was touched. So I am sorry for what I have to do now.”
“What do you have to do now?” Tumnus didn’t see her hand that was resting on a dagger. “Lu.” he stopped him self. “Who ever you are?”
“Oh Tumnus. I am Lucy.” She was still crying. “And I have to kill you now.”
An unseen force knocked the faun back and was holding him to the ground. He struggled to push him self up bit he couldn’t. Fear flooded Tumnus’s eyes but not for him self.
“P...please don’t hurt m Lucy.”
He was accepting that he was about to die. The shade Lucy stopped just before him and looked down. He was not begging for his life? He was begging for her.
“You don’t have to do this. Please.” Tumnus grunted in pain. “You don’t have to listen to what ever has told you to kill me. You are Lucy. I can see her in you but you also aren’t. Please, for my Lucy. For your self. Don’t betray the self that I know is inside you.”
“I.” Lucy’s heart was already beating quickly. “I’m sorry.” She whispered in tears. “It is time to die, Tumnus.”
She lunged forward. A dagger was withdrawn from it’s sheath. Tumnus’s eyes went wide and he screamed.
“No! Lucy! I love you!”
