Hook stirred slightly before a smile swept his face, remembering what took place before he fell asleep. Without opening his eyes he took in a deep breath and gave a very satisfied sigh. “Did I hurt you very badly, M’lady?” He whispered waiting for a response, but none came. “It shall not always be like that, each time I make love to you, it will become much better.” Again no response came. “Caitlin are you awak . . .” He turned over on his side reaching for her, only to have his hand find the blanket and nothing more. His eyes opened at this, “Caitlin?”
James eyes searched about looking up seeing her no sign of her. He sat up, noticing all her clothes were gone including her cloak. He wasn’t sure what was going on but he reached for his clothes and hook, getting dressed as fast as he could. James couldn’t imagine what was going on, why would she just vanish like this without speaking with him or telling him where she was going? Something told him that the answer couldn’t have been a very good one.
He made his way out of the cave following his path around to where he left his men, “Where did she . . . .” James stopped cold as he found all four pirates strung about the clearing, empty rum bottles scattered about, and all four of them unconscious snoring loudly. “Rum.” He said calmly and coolly picking one of the bottles up and looking it over. “Apparently a full case, of rum.” If anyone of these four were actually awake, they would have started shaking in their boots, realizing this was the calm before the storm.
All at once, the Captain through the bottle hard against a tree just above the head of the one he left in charge. It shattered making a very loud, horrible sound that snapped all four out of their slumber. “YOU idiotic, bawdy, idle-headed, miscreants!!” He roared throwing another bottle that broke against a tree. The pirates knowing they had been caught, quickly stood up in line before the Captain. “Guard duty does not signal happy hour!!! You MORONS!!!” He growled looking over them, “I should gut each and every one of you but unfortunately I do not have the time. Caitlin has gone missing, and there is no doubt in my mind that it is thanks to you lot of maggots letting her walk right by you!! YOU TWO, get back to the Jolly Rodger and bring the rest of the crew on land. I want this island searched and I want her found!!! NOW!!!” He yelled throwing another bottle at the men, they quickly scrambled and ran to do as he’d ordered.
James turned and walked towards the forest as his eyes searched about. She knew nothing about the island or this world, what madness drove her to leave his side on her own. Not long after, the pirates landed on shore passing out weapons and bringing the captain his riffle and pistols as well. “She’ll follow the pathways and trails Capt’n. If we split up we should find her before noon.” Smee said hoping to reassure the captain and cool his temper.
“I want her found, and I want whoever finds her to take her back to the Jolly Rodger and send up a flare, every one will return to the ship upon that signal.” Immediately they all spread out and started to comb over the island in search of the Captains missing bride. James couldn’t understand this; he thought things had gone extremely well the night before. He would have woken if someone had come into the cavern with them, he was rather surprised he didn’t wake up when she left his side.
Deeper in the forest on the other side of the island, a dark figure shrouded in a black cloak with golden trim slowly moved along the paths. It was easy to think that the strange form was perhaps death, seeking a soul to escort to the underworld, or some ghostly figure of some poor lost soul. It glided slowly and gracefully through the early morning ground fog, a sight you would expect to see in your most unholy of nightmares. Either way, it was a sight that caught the attention of many in the forest. It especially interested a youth who was always seeking adventure and excitement. The young boy quietly followed overhead watching closely with great curiosity.
The figure seemed to know it was being watched, but didn’t stop or halt its movements, and it continued to keep its slow and steady pace along the forest floor. Peter couldn’t resist, and wanted a closer look. He dropped down to the ground and started to follow on foot. Perhaps it was Hook, trying to spring yet another trap on him. Yet on closer inspection, this figure seemed much smaller then Hook and moved much differently then he did. The footsteps were softer and easier then Hook’s. As the dark stranger came to a fork in the road, they stopped as if trying to decide which way they wished to go.
Peter crept up closer, slipping behind a large oak. Pressing his back against the tree, he slowly started to move around it to get a good look. However, he found his face almost cut in half as a sword blade stuck into the bark of the tree, missing by only perhaps an inch or two. His eyes went wide as he reached for his sword backing away from the tree, only to have to blade come at him again. It was Hook! Pan fell back onto the ground blocking the next blow that came towards him, as he tried to pull his way along the ground to get away from this madman. This was totally out of the blue and unexpected and it took Peter a moment to regain his bearings, he quickly flew up from the ground. Hook had never been able to hear him when he’d gotten so close before.
“I see the Codfish has devised a new plan to capture me!” He shouted playfully as he started to attack with his blade, finding each and every one of his advances blocked successfully. A large grin swept across the child’s face, finding this a great challenge. The blade swiped fast cutting a few of the leaves and vines off of his clothing. He just laughed and flew up in the hair doing a quick summersault landing on his feet behind the figure thinking him self quick and cleaver, but no sooner did he turn then the blade came for him again. Pan nearly missed blocking it, turning his sword the wrong way causing a large chunk to be cut from the steel. The smile quickly fled from his face, it didn’t seem the normal fight he always had with Hook. Something was very different. He flew up in the air again shouting as he attacked hard and fast screaming, “You can’t beat me Hook!!! Your Old, Alone, and DONE For!!!”
Pan attacked again faster and harder each time, finding him self literally fighting for his life. The strangers sword stuck into a tree, and was having trouble removing it from the would. He thought he’d be able to strike a disabling blow, and swung his sword hard with all his might. But the figure ducked at the last moment under the swipe of his blade, coming back up underneath him and landing their elbow hard in his rib cage, causing pan to spin to the ground and it hard. The hit was powerful and knocked all the air out of his lungs. He gasped and coughed trying to get his breath back, only to have his sword knocked from his hands and a foot in his chest holding kicking him back and holding him against the ground. The tip of the sword at his throat promised a cut if he moved an inch. Peters eyes searched trying to see the face beneath the Hood, “Old, . . . .alone . . . . .done for!” He gasped quickly trying to rattle him as it had worked before.
Peter realized that perhaps his assumption of who it was, was wrong when a real hand reached up and pulled the Hook back letting it fall to their shoulders. A strawberry blonde woman with pale white stood over him, it the Lady from Hook’s ship. His breath grew deeper as her eyes were not the same color they were before. They were silver, and gave the appearance of pure evil. “I believe the words; Young, Ignorant, and Foolish boy are more in order.” She said coldly. Peter just stared up in pure and utter shock.
Hook and his men continued to search through the trees and follow the path finding no trace of Caitlin anywhere. Smee hurried up to the Captain, “Capt’n, there’s no sign of the misses anywhere. You don’t think she learned how to fly, do ye Capt’n?” James just gave his first mate a look.
“And how, precisely would she learn how to do that you useless sack of entrails. I have taken the utmost care to keep her mind from being tormented with trying to explain things she can not understand. Sooner or later she will be able to accept things that she sees in this god-forsaken purgatory, but she has not been here but a few weeks. Only God himself knows what she will see, and how I will explain them to her.” He said turning and looking towards the forest once again before they continued with their search.
“What . . . are you doing lady?” Peter finally was able to push out from amongst coughs and whizzing. “Do . . . don’t you know I’m the good guy!!” He shouted gasping for air, only to find her pushing the sword against his throat a bit harder.
“The good guy. Is that what you have deemed to call yourself? Is that the way you have found to justify all the mischievous and disabling acts that you have preformed on other human beings? Interesting, back where I come from they would have put you in something called juvenile hall. But unfortunately for you . . . . an Eye for an Eye law seems to apply in this place.” Her eyes narrowed looking down at the boy who seemed to have a genuine look of fear as he stared up at her.
“Lady, you have things all wrong! It’s Hook, he’s the one who started all of this! He’s the one whose trying to kill me!! I just did what I could to stop him and get away!” Slowly his hand was moving around to his back as he tried to hold her attention, reaching for his dagger.
Her eyes narrowed as she looked down at him, “Show me the way to the black castle and I’ll let you live.” Her words left absolutely no word for mistake. “Take me there, now.” Moving her sword under his chin she made him rise to his feet looking him square in the eyes. Peter did as she requested, furrowing his brow. It seemed strange that she wanted to go there, but didn’t know the way.
“It’s that way.” He said pointing down the fork in the road. Moving her sword she tapped his shoulder indicating that he was to go in front of her. Peter turned and started down the path, annoyed that he was captured but curious as to what was at the Black Castle. They started down the path, as Caitlin’s eyes stayed firmly on her prisoner.
Hook had wondered off from most of the other pirates, trying to follow a trail. He recognized the slight footprint of her boots heading down this particular path and followed it quickly. Coming to the fork in the road where they had been not to long before, he noticed a second pair of foot prints appeared, and there were several signs of a struggle that took place from the sword marks that were left in the trees. The footprints started down the left fork in the pathway and Hook looked downhill in the same direction. “The black castle.” He said through his teeth, his eyes beginning to darken.
Caitlin kept a close watch on Pan, waiting for him to try and take off from her and fly into the air or some other foolish stunt. Her eyes were still a dark silver color, the blue that had always been there naturally from the day she was born, was completely gone. There was no smile on her face and the way she looked left a very disturbing look on her face. Even more so then the murderous look that her ill-tempered husband carried with him when he was angered.
“Where are you taking me lady?” He asked trying to turn around and look at her. She smacked his arm with the sword making him face strait forward again. Peter was getting a little more irritated the more she bossed him around.
“I’m not taking you anywhere, your merely a guide.” She said, her voice still as frosty as the cold winter snow. They came to a place where you could overlook the castle that was only a short distance ahead of them. Caitlin looked down for a moment, it seemed like the right place. She pushed the tip of her sword into the young boy’s shoulder forcing him to continue. Soon after they came to the door on one side that would allow them entrance to the old ruin. They entered and Caitlin looked around, as if following some sort of direction she’d been given before she started on her way that morning.
Removing her sword from the boy’s back she approached the edge of the water looking down into the glass surface. She could see the white bleached bones of some prisoners whose fate was sealed some time ago looking back up at her from their watery graves. Her eyes shifted again looking towards the open Iron gate that normally closed off the hole in the wall that perhaps once held a draw bridge. Peter just stood behind her looking around, she didn’t seem concerned with him anymore in the least bit. This seemed rather strange. If she was with Hook, shouldn’t she be trying to skin him alive?
Caitlin spun around quickly holding her blade to his throat once more, “It appears that I’ve arrived a bit early to my meeting point. I wonder if I should even the score between you and the good Captain while I wait.” She said taking a step pushing him back. Peter reached behind him pulling out his dagger knocking her sword away. Caitlin spun around as her steel hit the rock rather then the young body that was its target. Turning back she looked up to find him hovering above her. An evil smile swept her face as she took a few steps towards him, finding some semi even ground to stand on.
“Honestly you are a child in every known rite. You can’t even stand and fight a woman on your own two feet. Tell me.” She said in a taunting voice, “Do you intend to pin me down helpless and dismember me as well? Or do you have an ounce of chivalry to be found in that young body of a boy.” He shook his head never seeing anything quite like this lady before.
“You are a pirate, you’re a pirate like all those other grown ups!! And I thought you were different, I thought you didn’t want to be one of them!” He shouted down at her, “I shall run you through like any other pirate aboard that ship!!” He yelled again flying at her trying to stab her with his dagger. She moved at the last minute catching his wrist and bringing her elbow across his face, before brining the fist that held her sword back across his jaw. Peter fell to the ground shaking his head, feeling as if his brain had been knocked loose.
Caitlin put her foot up on his side and pushed him over to fall on his side. He slid down the rock and hit the water hard. Walking to the edge she looked down in the water trying to see him, only to find that he had disappeared. Her eyes narrowed looking about, starting to walk the rock lining the water.
Hook slipped in to the castle at the top level and moved in quietly with his pistol drawn, pulling the hammer back as he made his way to where he could see down into the fortress. He looked down seeing that Caitlin was the only one there, looking from left to right wondering if his sworn enemy was about. It seemed as if he was never very far away from what went on. Hook quickly made his way down a flight of winding stairs to the main level his eyes on Caitlin’s cloaked figure.
“Caitlin, what on earth do you think you are doing!! I’ve had the entire crew searching the island for you the entire day, how dare you just wonder off like that without a wor. . . .” His scolding stopped immediately as she turned and looked at him, her eyes that same silver demonic color that sent chills down even Peter’s spine. Hooks eyes narrowed in confusion as he looked at her. “Caitlin?” He questioned taking a step closer to her. She took the same amount of space back that he took forward raising her sword in a warning not to try and advance on her again.
James eyes just wondered over her a moment, realizing there was something seriously wrong here. Uncocking his pistol he put it away, reaching out his good hand towards her, “Caitlin, come with me. It’s time to go back to the ship.” He said hoping she would do as she had always done before and submitted to his request. But she just stood still, no expression in her face and absolutely no kindness or gentleness in her eyes. “Caitlin, I am your husband and you must do as I say. Come to me, NOW.” He demanded in a very stern voice.
Caitlin smirked at his demand and threw her cloak back off her shoulder taking a fighting stance making a clear challenge. Hook lowered his hand not liking the bold defiance she was throwing in his face. “This is no time for games Caitlin. We shall spar another day, on the deck of the Jolly Rodger. You are cold and you are most certainly tired.” His voice was starting to freeze as well. He tried to take another step towards her but once again she stepped back, this time while preparing to strike if he did so again. Hook stopped and growled at her, “I am trying to remember that you are not yourself. But you are trying my patients.”
Above in the rocks, a very small creature watched the going on’s below, a very dark look on her face. She did not expect the Captain to follow the lady here to the castle. Her plan was ruined upon Hook’s arrival. If she called the large Crocodile here to eat the lady the Captains attentions where on so heavily, then the crocodile would try to eat James instead. Her little wings flitted a few times as she crawled further over the rock trying to see what was going on. Perhaps the Captain would grow angry enough to kill her himself.
