A few hours and several drinks later Jacob started to notice that the floor was tilting sideways. He stumbled and Liam caught him with a chuckle. “Looks like you’re still a light-weight,” Liam teased. “Let’s get you back to the hotel room.”
Liam put his arm around Jacob’s larger form and walked out with him. When they reached the door the bouncer stuffed a piece of paper into Liam’s pocket. “That’s for if you ever want a real man who can hold his liquor,” the man whispered.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Liam gave him a friendly smile. The bouncer wasn’t that bad-looking, but Liam doubted he’d ever want anyone but Jacob.
He got Jacob good and strapped into his seatbelt and drove them back to the hotel. The streets were pretty empty. Maybe people just weren’t staying out late any more. Either way, he couldn’t ignore the fact that the entire city reeked of newborn vampire. There was more than just one.
He would investigate later though. Tonight was about Jacob. “You don’t feel sick or anything, do you?” he asked Jacob while helping him out of the car.
“No, just funny,” Jacob answered, his words a bit slurred.
Liam shook his head and took him up to their room. He had to clear the clothes off the king-sized bed so Jacob could lie down. “You’re not gonna leave me, are you?” Jacob asked, looking a little upset at the thought.
“No,” Liam reassured him before crawling onto the bed to lie beside him.
“Good, cuz I don’t wanna be lonely,” Jacob giggled as he rolled over and pulled Liam closer. “But you know what I think? I think rum is evil!”
“Only if you drink too much,” Liam laughed. He actually began to wonder if he should be so close to his obviously intoxicated mate.
He sighed, getting annoyed with the fact that those stupid things called morals Carlisle drilled into his head were trying to interfere with him having a good time. There was only one thing to do in cases like this: ignore them.
He planted a soft kiss on Jacob’s lips to see how receptive he was. Jacob deepened the kiss and pulled Liam closer. Liam growled in pleasure, and only stopped the kiss long enough to pull Jacob’s shirt off. The young werewolf’s skin was soft and hot to the touch.
Liam shed his vest, then leaned over to plant icy kisses on Jacob’s belly, working his way up. Jacob made soft whimpering noises and tossed his head from side to side before his hands returned to Liam’s skin.
A strange curiosity struck Liam while his lips trailed up Jacob’s shoulder. Werewolves weren’t immune to vampire venom as had originally been thought, but it seemed they were resistant to it. But Jacob was his soul mate, so how would venom affect him?
Liam pressed his teeth to Jacob’s flesh, then applied pressure until he tasted blood. Jacob’s back suddenly arched and he cried out in pleasure. Liam pulled back quickly and waited to see what such a small amount would do.
He was pleased when Jacob started writhing on the bed and trying to grind his rock-hard cock against Liam’s hips as the venom flowed through the werewolf’s veins. Jacob’s skin was flushed, but the mood didn’t seem to be ruined. “Please, fuck me!” he begged.
Liam didn’t need to be told twice. He took off his pants and tossed them on the floor before disappearing into the bathroom to grab the complimentary bottle of lotion from the array on the counter. When he returned Jacob had removed his pants and his legs were splayed. He was furiously stroking his erection and his chest was heaving. Liam knew Jacob’s reactions were probably from a mix of hormones, alcohol, and venom, but it would be a shame to waste the moment.
Liam moved Jacob’s hand. “We can’t have you peaking too early.”
“Well, hurry up then!” Jacob cried.
“Have you done this before?” Liam thought to ask.
Jacob shook his head. Liam nodded, knowing he would need to take it easy this first time. Normally he liked it rough, but he didn’t want to hurt Jacob. There would be time to test limits later.
Jacob made soft whimpering noises and squirmed with need while Liam coated his fingers with the lotion. Liam licked his lips and teased Jacob’s puckered hole a little before sliding two fingers in. Jacob cried out so loud Liam was afraid other guests would hear.
Liam grinned and pulled his fingers out. This was going to be easier than he’d thought. “What did you stop for?” Jacob whined.
Liam leaned in to plant another searing kiss on Jacob’s lips. “I thought you wanted to get to the good part.”
“I do!”
“Well, then, quit complaining,” Liam laughed as he smeared the lotion on his cock. It only took him a second to get positioned and he slowly entered Jacob until he was all the way in.
Jacob hissed and pressed himself against Liam’s body, moving his ass back and forth and groaning in pleasure. Liam’s eyes rolled back and he pinned his eager lover to the bed and started to rock his hips.
He held back at first, not sure how rough he could be. Jacob wasn’t a fragile human, but still…. Liam slowly increased the speed and force of his thrusts, spurred on by Jacob’s grunts and growls. He could feel Jacob’s nail’s frantically clawing at his stone-like skin, his young lover’s cock pulsing between them. The chill of Liam’s body didn’t seem to bother Jacob in the least because he kept screaming for more between unintelligible ramblings.
The moment was over all too soon. Jacob let out one last strangled scream and his muscles constricted like a vice grip around Liam. Liam was pushed over the edge himself when he felt Jacob’s cock twitch and spray warm, gooey cum all over both of them. “Fuck!” Liam shouted as his muscles tensed and he made one final thrust. He rode the waves of intense pleasure, and then collapsed on the bed.
He rolled over to find Jacob covered in a sheen of sweat and panting heavily. “Love you,” Jacob mumbled before his body relaxed and he was out cold.
“Love you, too,” Liam whispered with a soft smile. He grabbed some tissues and cleaned them both up before tucking Jacob in and lightly kissing his forehead. Then he pulled his clothes back on and grabbed a few small liquor bottles from the mini-bar, shoving them in his pockets. Now that he’d had his fun, it was time to do some investigating.
He spent the rest of the night combing the streets for a fresh scent. Maybe it was a little foolish to hunt down and confront the offenders, but they really needed to know what was going on.
It took several hours for him to find a recent trail. He followed it down a back alley where a filthy-looking teenage male newborn had a hooker cornered. Liam watched for a moment, amused by the young amateur’s approach. The newborn had used brute force to throw her against the brick wall and now stood over her while she cowered and begged for her life. Where was the fun in that?
Liam cleared his throat, causing the male to turn and glare at him. “Didn’t your mommy ever teach you to pick on someone your own size?”
With an evil smirk the newborn charged Liam, no doubt assuming he was dealing with another human. Liam ducked to one side and clotheslined him, sending him flying back into the alley. The boy’s eyes went wide with the terror of sudden realization. “You’re a Cullen, aren’t you?”
Liam tilted his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. “How did you know my name?” As far as he knew, his family name wasn’t well known. They kept to themselves.
Instead of answering his question, the newborn ran. Liam caught him easily, snatching the back of his neck with one hand and ripping off an arm with the other. “As my brother always says, there is no excuse for rudeness,” he whispered into the newborn’s ear. “Now, answer my question, and I might let you go.”
“I’m not telling you anything!” the newborn spat. “You can do whatever you want with me. I will be avenged.”
Liam shrugged. “Have it your way, then.”
He sank his fangs into the newborn’s neck and ripped his head right off. Then he searched the body for any clues. He didn’t expect the white sock he found in the newborn’s pocket. What was even more disturbing was that he recognized the scent on the sock. It was Bella’s.
He quickly stuffed the sock in his pocket and pulled out one of the bottles of liquor from the mini-bar, pouring it all over the corpse. Then he took out a lighter and lit the corpse on fire.
The hooker was still cowering in the alley. “Thank you!” she cried, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Liam slowly advanced on her. “I wouldn’t thank me just yet, if I were you.”
“Why not?” she asked as she wiped her eyes. “You saved me.”
Liam laughed bitterly. “I guess I did, didn’t I? Unfortunately, I can’t let you live.” Her lower lip trembled in fear. She opened her mouth to beg for her life, but Liam cut her off. “You’re going to promise me you won’t tell anyone, but I know better. The moment someone brings up all these murders, you won’t be able to resist. The only thing I can do for you is make it quick.”
The poor girl tried to crawl away, but she didn’t get far before Liam snatched her up off the ground and plunged his teeth into her throat. He ripped open her jugular and drank deeply. She was unconscious in a few seconds.
Liam left her crumpled body on the concrete. He didn’t like leaving her like that, but it had to look like the rest of the murders. These newborns were being careless, and it made the Cullens wonder why the Volturi hadn’t stepped in already.
The sun was just starting to come over the horizon when he returned to the hotel. He’d learned quite a bit, and they had a lot to think about. There was only one reason Bella would be involved in any of this: Victoria. It seemed the crafty bitch was trying a new approach.
Jacob was still sleeping soundly when Liam returned to the room. Liam couldn’t help but smile softly and watch him for a few moments. The young werewolf looked so peaceful. It was just a shame they had finally got together under such lousy circumstances.
Liam fired up the little coffeemaker and started brewing tea, figuring Jacob might want some when he woke. The poor boy was no doubt going to have one hell of a hangover. Liam only hoped Jacob wouldn’t have any regrets about the night before.
Breakfast was supposed to be served in the lobby at seven, so Liam headed down to grab something for Jacob. No matter what, he was going to take care of his companion. He picked out a blueberry muffin and headed back.
When he opened the door Jacob was awake and looked like hell. “Morning,” Liam greeted him. “I brought you a muffin, and I have hot tea for you.” Jacob only groaned in response. Liam sat on the edge of the bed and gently stroked his hair. “Yeah, I figured you wouldn’t be feeling very well. How much of last night do you remember?”
“Enough,” Jacob answered, moving to prop himself up on the pillows. “You took advantage of me.”
Liam frowned. “I know. In my defense, I was overcome by my desire for you. I’m sorry if things went further than you wanted.”
Jacob was quiet for a moment. “I don’t know how I feel about it. I mean, I kind of wanted to, but it seemed like such a big step, you know? We’ve only been together for two days.”
Liam nodded in understanding. “I know. We just have such a strong attraction. I may have been sober, but I still wasn’t thinking straight.”
Jacob sighed. “Just don’t do it again.” He fingered the scar on his neck. “Don’t bite me again either, unless I want you to.”
“Okay.” Liam handed Jacob the tea. “Drink this. You need to rehydrate yourself.”
Jacob accepted the offered cup of tea and took a small sip. It was still steaming hot and was a little bitter, but it settled his stomach some. “Thanks,” he mumbled.
“I found something last night,” Liam said, pulling the sock from his pocket and holding it out. “Take a whiff and tell me if the human scent smells familiar.”
Jacob gave Liam an odd look but obligingly took the sock and sniffed it. His eyes suddenly went wide in understanding. “Bella. Where did you find this?”
“A newborn had it,” Liam answered. “He wouldn’t tell me where he got it. All he said was that if I killed him, he would be avenged. The really creepy part was that he knew I was a Cullen.”
“We need to get back and warn Bella,” Jacob said as he hopped out of bed. He suddenly regretted moving so fast because the room started to spin and he nearly fell.
Liam caught him and helped him back into bed. “Easy. You drink your tea and eat your muffin. I’ll pack. Edward is home now, so Bella is safe.”
Jacob nodded and followed orders. He sipped the hot liquid while watching Liam pack their things in practically no time. Then he tackled the solid food, a few small bites at a time. He only ended up eating half the muffin, but Liam seemed satisfied. Jacob dressed while Liam took their things out to the car, then they headed home.
The ride home was miserable for Jacob. The sun was too bright and Liam was driving too fast. Reclining the seat back helped some, but he was still motion-sick. It was almost a relief when the tires squealed as they came to a stop at Bella’s house…almost.
Jacob groaned when he saw Chief Swan’s cruiser still in the driveway. Normally that wouldn’t have been a bad thing, but his dad and Charlie were best friends. Jacob didn’t want his dad knowing where he was or who he’d been with.
Charlie was apparently on his way out. Jacob prayed he wouldn’t look to see who was in the passenger side, but luck was not with him because when he looked up, Charlie was glaring down at him. Jacob rolled down the window with a sheepish grin. “Hi, Charlie. Is Bella back?”
“Jacob Black, where in the hell have you been?” Charlie chided. “Your dad has been worried sick! He hasn’t heard a word from you since yesterday morning.”
“Sorry,” Jacob mumbled. “I didn’t want him to know who I was with. Please don’t tell him.”
“Why should I do you any favors?”
Jacob frowned. “You know how he feels about the Cullens. He would freak out. I met Liam the day he brought Bella over to visit. I like him.”
“There’s just one problem. He’s twenty-one. You’re sixteen, and if I didn’t know any better, I’d say you look hung over.”
“Maybe a little,” Jacob admitted. “But please let me deal with my dad. I’ll tell him, I promise, but in my own time.”
Charlie was quiet for a moment while he thought it all over. “Fine. I am going to call him when I get to the station to let him know you’re all right, but I won’t give him any details. But I warn you now, if you don’t tell him soon, I will.”
“Thanks,” Jacob nodded. “I’ll tell him.”
Liam and Jacob headed inside when Charlie got into his cruiser and drove off. Edward and Bella were sitting at the kitchen table. Edward got to his feet as soon as Liam stepped inside. “There was someone here,” Edward said with a mix of panic and anger in his voice.
“I know,” Liam said as he pulled out the sock.
“That looks like mine. Where did you get it?” Bella asked.
Liam told them all about his encounter with the newborn, including the few words that had been exchanged. “Something big is going on here, and I think Victoria is behind it. Who else hates us that much?”
Edward nodded in agreement. “Carlisle was saying just this morning that the problem is getting too big for just one newborn to be behind it.” He turned to Jacob, who was curled up on Charlie’s recliner. “This might even be too big for us to handle alone.”
“I’ll talk to Sam,” Jacob promised. “Bells, do you have some aspirin or something?”
“I think so,” Bella answered as she got up from the table. “Did you have a little too much fun last night?”
“You could say that,” Jacob whimpered.
Bella got up and went to look for aspirin in the medicine cabinet in the upstairs bathroom. Edward turned to Liam. “So, how was last night?” he asked.
“Not quite what I expected, but I think it went well,” Liam answered truthfully. He let Edward into his mind to see at least some of the evening.
Edward frowned. “I think I might be ill.”
“Hey!” Jacob cried, then hissed in pain. “I am in the room, you know.”
“I know.” Edward laughed.
Liam glared at him. “Be nice.”
“Sorry, habit.” Edward smirked. “I’ll try to behave.”
Bella came back with the aspirin and a glass of water. Jacob popped the pills into his mouth and downed the water in one long gulp. “Thanks. If you don’t mind, I think I’m gonna go take a look in your room and catch the scent of your visitor.”
Bella motioned for him to go ahead and then headed to the sink to wash dishes. They were piled up after her being gone for almost three days. Edward got up to help her dry.
Jacob returned after only a few minutes. “It’s a different scent than what’s on the sock. I think you’re right: this is some kind of conspiracy or something.”
As if on cue, Liam’s phone started ringing. It turned out to be Carlisle. Liam repeated everything to him, promising to fill him in later, in private, on how things had gone with Jacob. “We’re going to have a family meeting when he gets home from work,” he informed Edward as he hung up. “Jacob, we should probably get you home.”
“Yeah.” Jacob nodded in agreement. “I’m sure my dad is gonna give me the third degree when I get home. I’m not looking forward to it. Hey, Bella, I wanted to invite you to a bonfire tonight. Can you come?”
“I don’t know….” Bella looked over at Edward, expecting him to forbid it.
“If you want to go, go,” Edward said, surprising her. “I told you, I did a lot of thinking while I was out hunting. I trust you.”
“Okay, I guess I can go,” she told Jacob. “It’ll make Charlie happy.”
“Great!” Jacob smiled. “Liam, will you come, too?”
Liam raised an eyebrow. “Do you really think that’s a good idea?”
“Sure. I’ll have to tell everyone about you sooner than I wanted to, but I was going to have to anyway, right?”
Liam chuckled and shook his head. “All right, I’ll come as long as no one minds too much.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it,” Jacob promised. “And you can bring Bella.”
The two continued talking about the bonfire all the way back to the Cullen home. The more Jacob told Liam about it, the more doubts Liam had about going. Jacob continued to insist, though, saying it was important to him and he wanted Liam to share in the important things.
“What about all the stuff we bought?” Jacob asked when they pulled into the driveway. “I drove my bike over, so I have no way to get it home.”
“I’ll keep it here, then,” Liam suggested. He pulled Jacob into one last kiss before watching him drive off. Hopefully Jacob wouldn’t have too much trouble with his dad and the pack.
