The Castle
Shortly after his father had disappeared, Leon ventured back into the castle. There in the Entrance Hall was the Beast.
'You are free to search the castle to your hearts content. There is no locked door and no sealed passge. The bell will toll at seven announcing dinner, and there will be a lunch waiting for you shortly.' Before another word was spoken, the Beast turned and walked off into the gardens. So Leon looked around. There were many rooms off the Entrance Hall, and so he went to one and opened it. Inside was a Ball Room. The next had a kitchen with everything he could possibly need to cook a meal. The next room was a music room with many instruments. He went over to the flute and picked it up, and it started playing by itself. When it had finished, it floated down to the ground and lay there. Leon turned and faced the instruments.
'I'd like to hear “For Elise”' he said. The piano and the violin started playing together. When the song was over, he requested all his favorites until there was simply nothing left he wanted to hear. Venturing to the other side of the Entrance hall, he opened another door that had a flight of steps leading down. Guessing it was a dungeon of some sort, he ignored it and went to the next room. He found a lounge with a small bookshelf with leather-bound books. There was nothing titled as such, so he left the room and looked into the next one. Inside was a smoking room with many different types of tobacco, cigarettes and cigars. Leon remembered where it was so he could come back later. He ventured upstairs and found that the upper hallways were full of other interesting rooms. He eventually found what he wanted, a library. He took a book and read the first chapter. Finding it interesting, he took it down to the smoking room. He sat down with a drink, cigarette and started to read. He was startled when he heard a piano plink a few notes. Looking up, a piano was sitting in a distant corner. Leon requested a song and the piano started to play quietly as he sat and read.
Time must have gotten away on him, for the next thing he knew, he heard the bell toll for dinner, and found he was surprisingly hungry. He marked his page and left the book on a side table and ventured to his dining room. There sat his dinner, and another dinner was set out. As time passed and he had eaten, the Beast came to join him. While they ate, Leon told the beast of his adventures. Then, as dinner was finished, the Beast asked what time Leon would like to be awoken with breakfast. Then he left leon to read and go to bed.
That night, Leon had a dream. He saw a beautiful woman dressed in a fine white dress. She looked at him.
'Only you can free this castle again.' she said. 'Look beyond the physical to find your hearts desire.' she said. But before Leon could question her, she disappeared. Leon then found himself in a garden. He followed it round until he came to a cave near a water feature. And there, sitting by the waterfall, was a charming man. His dark hair shined in the sunlight and his smile was charming and polite.
'Help me to be free Leon.' Said the man. And before Leon could ask him anything, the man was gone, a crown left where he sat. Leon woke up and thought about what he had seen. Nothing made sense.
'Perhaps the Beast is holding this man prisoner.' leon said. His mind thought about the prince and thought of how nice it would be to hold him and kiss hi m. Leon found he loved this man, who he presumed was royalty. He got up when the bell tolled and went to eat breakfast. He finished and then desided to go and look in the gardens. As he wandered around, he found lots of wild flowers, and he then came upon the water feature where his father had picked the Iris. He smelled them and admired their colors.
'Hw I wish I had some of these in my room to perfume it and give it some more color.' Leon said to himself. He then continued walking. Soon, he came to a bird house as big as the house he and his brothers had lived in. Many birds were in there. He heard them singing and tweeting and whistling. He had a wonderful time listening to them and feeding them as they flew down and sat on his shoulders and hands.
'Oh how I wish I had a few of you in my room to give it sweet music.' he said. Leon shortly returned into the house and went back to the smoking room where he had placed his book before he ventured out into the garden. He sat there and requested songs of the piano.
A bell tolled and Leon loked about. It was still to light to be dinner time, but the next thing he knew a nice lunch had appeared at his elbow, and he started to eat it. He soon finished the book and his lunch, and decided to go and get another book. He soon found another and went to the lounge to read it. There was no music, and that seemed to make him uncomfortable, so he returned to the smoking room to read and listen to the music.
Later in the day, Leon had finished a number of books, and he wondered if there was anything on the history of the castle. But no matter how hard he looked or searched, he found nothing. He decided he would ask the Beast later.
Soon he was back outside walking in a different direction when he found the stables. He petted the horses and stroked the sheep. Soon, the bell tolled for dinner and he went back inside.
Again, the Beast joined him and asked what Leon had been up to. Leon told the Beast of his day and how entertaining it had all been. He then asked the Beast about the history of the castle. The beast didn't answer for a few moments. Finally he said, 'Go to the lounge on the first floor and read the leather books. Inside you will find the histories of the people who lived in the castle and the castle itself.' Finally, dinner was over, and the beast went to leave. But before he did, he looked and Leon and said the following; 'Leon, will you marry me?' the beast asked. Leon was rather stunned. But he then declined politely. The beast shook his head and walked away, bidding Leon goodnight.
That night, Leon dreamed again. He dreamed of the man he had seen by the water feature, but he was crying. When Leon tried to comfort him, he moved away. Finally, Leon lost sight of the man, and he found the crown again. He turned and found himself llooking at the woman in white.
'My son needs you,' she said. 'Why will you not free him?' she pleaded. But before Leon could answer, the bell tolled and woke him up. Upon awakening, he smelled something different in the air. Turning, he saw some of the iris' from the water feature beside his bed, and his room smelled so much better. He then heard some birds singing, and there, hanging from the ceiling was a bird cage and inside were some birds. Leon smiled with delight.
So the weeks passed and Leon had many adventures in the house. There was a small theater where puppets or enchanted props and costumes would entertain him to music. In other rooms he found games that would verse him themselves, and many other things to entertain him. And every night, the Beast would join him for dinner and ask if Leon would marry him, and each night Leon politely refused, and every night he would have the same dream.
Over time, Leon began to think of his father and brothers who would be worried about him, and he missed them so much. Finally, he asked the Beast if he could visit them for a time. The Beast sighed.
'If it is truly your hearts desire, then so it shall be, for I will deny you nothing. Go into the other room and fill up trunks with presents for your father and brothers as before. Then put on this ring before you sleep. Tomorrow morning you will find yourself home. But you must return within a week.' The Beast said. Leon promised he would. 'Tur the ring three times and say that you wish to return to the Beast's castle, and then go to sleep. You will find yourself back here the next morning.' The Beast finished. He passed Leon a simple gold ring, and he put it on. The Beast then went to leave. But before he did, he asked Leon again if he would marry. Leon again politely refused. He then went into the next room and packed trunks full of money, gems, clothes and other things for his father and brothers. Then he lay down to sleep.
