Stephen POV
I was awoken when my alarm went off.
“Damn alarm.” I mumbled. Then I just remembered that today was when I get to have this meeting with this infamous Anita Blake. I wonder if her personality’s as bad as it says on the description. I thought to myself.
I looked at the clock and saw that the glowing red light said 6:00 am. I then just remembered that I set the meeting at 8:00 am. I don’t know what possessed me to set up a meeting that early. I got up and took a shower, while thinking back to the picture of my newest client. About 20 minutes later, I got out of the shower, refreshed and happy. I got out some clothes to wear. I got out a pair of beige khaki’s and a white t-shirt. It was July out there and we were in St. Louise, its summer and it’s uncanny that it’s 100º outside.
Author POV
Stephen went to his car. He looked at the clock and saw that it was only 6:50. Plenty of time to go to Harry’s and get something to eat there. He drove his copper colored Mercedes Benz and when he got there, he parked his car and went inside. He noticed that it was kinda packed with people getting ready for work there. There were at least 5 people behind the counter and at least 6 waiters/waitress taking people’s orders. Stephen walked up to the f and and Richard, one of the workers behind the counter, came up to him.
“Hey Stephen, what will it be today?” Richard asked casually.
“A coffee, one cream and two sugar, and some pastries would be good.” Stephen replied.
“Any pastries you want in particular?”
“Donuts and some lemon squares would be good.” Stephen thought for a second. “I also want you to put some extra lemon squares to go.”
“That all?”
“Yeah. That’s all.”
“Just take a seat and I’ll be here with your stuff soon.”
Then Richard left. Stephen knew Richard because he was a friend he knew since high school and they’re still best friends to this day. It was kinda weird how they didn’t lose touch over the years…About 10-20 minutes later, Richard came back with a plate of donuts and lemon squares, a cup of coffee, and to balance it all, and he had a box of lemon squares with him. Or that’s what Stephen predicted it was.
“Here you go. Donuts, coffee, and lemon squares.” Richard presented.
“Thanks.” Stephen said.
“Anything else I can get you?”
“Um…what about a coffee to go?”
“Where are you going today?” Richard asked with a chuckle, seeing his friend buy so much stuff for one day.
“I’m meeting a client today and I don’t know if they’ll want anything to eat or drink.” Stephen replied.
“Oh. Where’re you meeting them?” he asked curiously.
“At Gallows Hill.”
“But, isn’t that a place for those mental people? (No offense to those people.)”
“Yeah…apparently, my client lives there.”
“Wow.”
reah, eah, I know.” Stephan said taking a bite out of his chocolate donut.
“So, I’ll be back with your coffee soon.”
“Thanks.”
“No prob…that’s what friends are for right?”
“Yeah…I guess.”
Then Richard left again. Stephen kept eating his breakfast until 10 minutes later when Richard came back with his coffee.
“Here you go…anything else I can get you?” Richard asked, handing him his coffee.
“No, I think that’s it for now. Thanks for doing this for me though.” Stephen thanked.
“It’s my job here. If I didn’t do this, wouldn’t that mean that I don’t work here?” Richard chuckled after he said it. Stephen then chuckled too.
After Stephen was done, he packed everything away, meaning the food and coffee.
“Hey Rich, I’ll see you later k?” Stephen said, bidding farewell.
“Yeah, see ya later.”
Then Stephen left.
When Stephen got to his car, he put everything on the passenger seat and drove off to Gallows Hill to see his next client.
Anita POV
Damn, what is that annoying sound? I asked myself. I took the covers off of my head to see that it was my damn clock that shook me out of my sleeping time. Why did I have to wake up so early again? Oh yeah, I have to meet my ‘mysterious’ visitor today. Why in seven’s hells did the guy have to arrange something at 8:00am?
I looked at the clock and saw that it was 7:30 am. I got out of bed and went to take a shower in my room. Everyone that lives here has their own room and has their own bathroom. After I was done taking a shower, I went to the closet. The people here don’t like us wearing gowns. They say that it makes them feel like they’re in the hospital or something, but c’mon, isn’t this place like a hospital already? Inhabited by people with ‘disabilities’, as they like to call us.
I went he che closet and took out a pink tank top (why in seven’s hells did they give me a pink shirt…or anything pink on this account), and baby blue short shorts. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 7:59 am. One minute or less until this bozo had to come in, letting me scare the hell out of them, making them think that I had some interest in them. I giggled out loud without me knowing it.
“The papers about you might really be wrong about you.” A voice behind me said. I twirled around and saw a really cute guy standing there.
A man was standing there. He was only a little taller than me, so I think he was about 5’4”. He had curly blond hair that fell past his shoulders and had true-blue eyes (I got this description out of the book on Circus of the Damned. Don’t flame me for it…).
“I didn’t know that they allowed just anyone to come into my rwithwithout knocking…” he chuckled. He didn’t take me seriously, like the other’s that have visited me too.
“The nurse let me in…” blondy said, smirking. I growled…I told them not to do that, but no one cares about what I want anymore right?
“You could of stilled knocked anyways…I could have been changing.” I didn’t like his attitude one bit.
“And…that is a bad thing…because?”
“Because…I could have been changing….like I just said.” I glared at him, while he just smiled.
He shrugged.
“Let’s get down to business now.” He began. Wait aute…ute…What does he mean by ‘get down to business’? I asked myself.
“Um…What?” I asked, uncertain.
“They didn’t tell you that someone was supposed to talk to you today?” he asked, cocking him head a little to the side.
“Um…They did, but-“ I began...But I didn’t know that the person was supposed to be this cute…I said silently to myself.
“But, what?”
“Nothing.”
“Ok…Let’s start talking then.” I nodded my head. “Um…”
Then I noticed that he couldn’t find a chair to sit on. I giggled softly at this, but it seems like he caught it because he grinned back at me. I’m not the type of person to really giggle…that was a bazaar thing to do.
“Here.” I grabbed the chair that was ‘invisible’ to others and set it across my bed.
“Thanks.” He said then sat down, while I sat across from him.
We had silence for a few minutes. Does this guy even know what he came here to ask me? I asked myself.
“You know that I need to talk to you today, right?” he began…he had to start out somewhere.
Author POV
“You know that I need to talk to you today, right?” he began.
Anita nodded slowly, unsure where this conversation will start and end.
“Well, I came here because someone told me that you could help me on a murder, that seems kinda like the things that involves some unusual…creatures” he said.
Anita POV
So…this ‘conversation’ is about police work. How am I able to help?
Stephan POV
This is harder than I thought it would. I thought.
“I don’t know how I am able to help you. I don’t know anything about any…police cases. I have been her for 10 years, not able to go out. So if you think I’m involved with this, I’m not.” She said flatly. Talk about jumping to conclusions.
“No, it’s none of that. I’m here to ask you some questions that I think you might be able to help with.” I reassured her. I don’t know how much it reassured her though.
“Ok…start asking then…I guess.” Now we have a conversation starting.
“Well, we have been having this weird…case going on.” She nodde too took that as a signal to continue.
“The case we are dealing about this time is-“ I sighed. “-that we have unusual victims with two bite marks on the left side of their necks.” Her eyes widened a little.
“You mean, that you have victims with bite marks on their necks, where there veins are. And have lost all their blood?” she asked. My eyes widened this time. I didn’t even tell her that part. I guess this is what they mean when she is able to help us. I didn’t even tell her much info and she is able to fill in some parts of it.
“How did you know that?”
She blushed. I guessed out of embarrassment.
“Well, it’s kind of hard to explain.” She began.
“I have a lot of time, as you can see. That’s why I bought some lemon squares and coffee with me. I hope you don’t mind.”
“No, not at all.”
“I hope you don’t mind if the coffee is 2 sugars and a little bit of cream.”
“No, I don’t even usually drink coffee here…more of never, so it doesn’t really matter.”
I handed her her coffee and opened the package with lemon squares in it. She took one then started to talk.
While she talked, my eyes widened to a few parts of the story. She was telling me about a dream she had, which sounded pretty real when she added parboutbout the victims, but I don’t think I really believed the parts about the guy biting to the girls neck, the man that changed to a wolf, and about her being the ‘chosen one’. Those parts were just…I’m guessing…part of her imagination.
“And then, my great grandmother Helen…disappeared and I awoke in my ‘room’ if you can call it that.” When she was done, she loo looking down at her cup.
“I see.”
I think I can see why she’s in Gallows Hills.
“You don’t believe me, do you?” she asked quietly.
I couldn’t say yes, because that would be lying to her.
“I’m sorry, but no, I don’t believe you.” I said softly.
“That’s why I didn’t really want to tell you. And like I said, I’m not help to you.”
“Does someone work for you?” I asked suddenly. I wanted to know how she knew about the cases. No one is able to dream up something like that.
“I told you, it was in my dreams.” She said.
“No dreams can tell you anything like that, unless you are a witch, or something close to that.” I said. Why is she insisting that it was from her dreams?
“But, my dreams did tell me that.” She said, a little louder this time.
“Who is working for you here?” I asked a little irrated this time.
Then she stood up.
“i told you that they from my dreams. You’re the one who wanted to know. You’re the one who thought that I could help. You’re the one that insisted that I was able to help. You’re the one that insisted on hearing about my dream. Now listen here. I do not asositate with the people here, in Gallows Hills. I don’t talk to other people. And if you have read the papers hat they gave you, I made everyone scared of me. No one in this damn place would talk to me. Now do you think that anyone would give me fucking damn information for some fucking police case?” she growled out. She looked really cute when she was mad.
But it was true, I did read that she scared everyone away.
“Fine, whatever. I think you are able to help us then.” I began, kinda believing her.
“Why would you think that I would help you?” she asked, clearly irritated and mad.
“Well, the dream that you had did seem to be a link to our case.” Then I saw the anger go away from her eyes, but it was replaced by confusion.
Anita POV
That is what I call a mood swing.
Author POV
“Fine, whatever. I’ll her you.” She sighed
“Ok then, lets go.” He said cheerfully.
“wait.” He looked at Anita.
“Yeah?”
“Um, I don’t even know your name?”
“Oh…Sorry that I haven’t introduced myself-“ he chuckled nervously. “-My name is Stephen.” He held his hand out.
“Anita.” She said shaking his hands.
“Ready to go?” Stephen asked.
“Go?”
“Yeah, aren’t you going back to HQ with me?”
“HQ?”
“Head Quarters.”
“Oh. But I don’t think I can go?”
“Why?”
“Like I said, they wont even let me out of this fucking cell.”
He chuckled.
“It’s not a problem. I can get you out.”
“You sure?”
“Yup. I’ll say that it’s police business.”
“I thought it is.”
“It is…I’ll tell them that and then I’m sure that they’ll let you go. If they don’t, I’ll have to get the chief down here.”
“I see.”
“I’ll be back, okay? Just pack up your stuff and when I come back, I’ll get you outta here.”
“Okay.”
He then turned to leave, but Anita stopped him.
“Um...Hey Stephen?”
“Hm..?”
“Thanks.”
“rob.rob.”
Then he left to talk to Balthasar.
