Summary: Lilly a witch saves a were-panther then finds she is the mate to his brother.

Author's note: When mind speaking it is denoted ‘dialogue’. This was my first story. This is based in the wonderful world that author Sherrilyn Kenyon has created.

Chapter 2

Rian woke up to pain. He remembered surfacing a couple of times since the shooting and both times there was an angel watching over him. That was what he thought of her. She gave off such an energy of goodness, he knew she was protecting him. Then he thought of what happened before his angel came to him. He had been returning from a trip to the past. He had wanted to stop by Dante’s club so he flashed himself to a wood near there and had the bad luck of appearing before four hunters. They were so startled by him that they shot him twice before they knew what was going on. The pain from his wounds caused Rian to change into his panther form and that is when the hunters started to use him as target practice. With his last burst of energy he flashed himself away from there, called out to his brother then everything went black. Coming back to the present he opened his eyes and looked around. He was in a cage traveling in a van and his angel was driving. Knowing he wasn’t strong enough to flash himself home he reached out with his mind and asked his angel where she was taking him, ‘Where are we going?’
Startled, Lilly looked into the rear view mirror to look at Pan, “I am taking you to my home. You are in danger. My magic can keep you safe.”
Sensing the truth of what she said he asked, ‘Who are you?’
“My name is Lillian. I am a doctor. I am the one who removed all of the bullets from you. My coworker and his grandfather are going to try to hurt you. So I took you out of the lab. What are you?” Lilly couldn’t stop herself from asking.
‘I am a were-panther. I made a mistake and flashed in front of four hunters and they started shooting me. Thank you for saving me.’
‘Your welcome. We will be at my house in about ten minutes.’
‘Sela .. Beloved. Are you okay baby?’ Rian reached out to his mate.
‘Rian, where are you. You are hurt. Tell me where you are and Lucan will come get you.’
Rian could hear her distress and tried to calm her, ‘No, he must stay and protect you. I am safe for right now. You must get your rest. I can feel your pain. I love you and will contact you soon.’
Everything in Rian’s being wanted nothing more that to go to his mate, but there were those in his pack that would harm her if left unprotected.
‘Lucan?’
‘Rian. Where are you? Are you okay?’
Lucan was worried. Ever since Rian called out two days ago in pain and to come home to find Sela unconscious and bleeding, he was going crazy. He couldn’t connect with Rian so he didn’t know where he was. He couldn’t leave Sela, his brother’s bonded mate, without his protection. Lucan loved Sela as a sister, but didn’t like the fact Rian bonded with her. Rian had found her nearly thirty years ago. She had been abandoned by her pack. Sela, an Arcadian, was born blind. At first her parents didn’t realize it but when they found out they were repulsed by her handicap. It was very rare that a were be born with birth defects. Those who were usually are abandoned. Sela was kept but mistreated until finally she was left on her own. She just became in season when Rian found her. As usual, when an unmated male panther comes into contact with a pantheres in heat, they usually can’t resist the urge to mate. Rian took her. He was gentle and when he realized she was his mate, he brought her home and took care of her. Sensing that he wouldn’t hurt her, she accepted him as her mate. After sometime, they fell deeply in love and they bonded. Lucan knew under normal circumstances, Sela could protect herself quite will. Both Rian and himself taught her, but she was weak and wounded because of Rian’s injuries. Most of the pack accepted her and were loyal to Rian. But there were a few who didn’t like Rian and would take advantage of the situation.
After telling him what happened, Rian filled him in on his currant circumstance, ‘A doctor named Lillian saved me. She is a witch. You should sense her powers, they are strong. I guess my blood caused quite a stir because a coworker of hers thinks I am a shape shifter. She is taking me to her house. She says it is guarded by magic. I will be safe there for now. You must stay there and protect my mate. I will contact you to check in or if I need you.’
‘Rian, I don’t like this. But I can sense how tired you are. I will wait here now that I know where you are,’ breaking contact, Lucan went to check on Sela and their cubs.

Arriving at home, Lilly prepared a room for Pan then went to get him out of the van. With a thought, she carried him into the house. Deciding to leave him out of the cage, she made him comfortable on a pillowed bed. After checking Pan’s bandages she decided to get something to eat.
“I don’t even know your name.”
‘Rian. My name is Rian.’
“Oh, well, Rian, would you like something to eat?”
‘Yes, I am starving.’
“What would you like?”
‘Italian?’
“You like people food? Sorry that was a stupid thing to say,” Lilly asked then thought to herself, ‘Great Lilly, that was such a nice thing to say.’
‘Lillian…’
“Lilly. My friends call me Lilly.”
‘Lilly.. Its okay. You are taking all of this quite well.’

Smiling, Lilly asked, “Spaghetti then?”
‘That sounds great.’
“Okay, I will be back soon.”
As Lilly entered the kitchen her phone rang. Looking at the caller id she knew it was Edward. Preparing herself, she picked up the phone, “Hello?”
“Lilly, what are you doing.”
“I am just about to prepare dinner,” Lilly said.
“You know that is not what I mean. Why did you take the panther home?” Edward demanded.
“Edward, I am tired. I wanted to go home and I didn’t want to leave him in his condition so I brought him home with me. I have brought animals home before,” she sighed.
“Yes, I know, but not such a large dangerous one. Besides, we don’t know what is wrong with his blood. You must bring him back to the lab.”
“I am fine. He is hardly dangerous in his condition. I am going to stay home for a few days. I called Dr. Mathews to fill in for me while I am gone.”
“Lilly, you don’t know anything about this animal. I think he is really dangerous. You must bring him back at once,” Edward practically yelled.
“Edward, I am in charge at the lab. I make the decisions. I am going to keep the animal here with me,” she said with finality.
Edward was furious. His grandfather wasn’t going to like this. He didn’t like this. It was as if Lilly suspected something. She was too adimate about keeping the panther with her.
“Okay Lilly. At least let me come over later to check on you.”
“Edward, I am fine. I am going to be resting. Maybe tomorrow. I have to go. I will talk to you tomorrow,” and without another word, Lilly hung up and tried to calm herself.
Finishing the spaghetti, Lilly brought it into Rian’s room, “Here we go. I hope you like it.”
Placing a bowl in front of Rian,, she pulled up a chair and sat down to eat. After a few minutes, Lilly asked, “Do you have any family?”
Rian, finishing his food said, ‘Yes. I have a mate and three cubs and a brother.’
“I bet they are worried about you. Is there anyway to let them know that you are okay?”
‘It is okay. I contacted them on our way here.’
“Good. Can I take you home?”
‘I live in the Cascades, far from Minnesota. If there was great need, my brother could come to get me. I am to weak right now to flash myself home. I would endanger my mate and myself.’
“Why doesn’t your brother come now to get you?” Lilly asked, curiously.
‘I have enemies. He must stay and protect Sela. I am safe here, am I not?’
“Yes. But I am worried. Edward will not give you up so easily. I am not sure how far his grandfather would go to get to you.”
Feeling how tired he was, Lilly decided to let him rest. Before she was able to make it out of the room, someone buzzed at her front gate.
Waving her hand, the television turned on with a view of her front gate, “Edward!” Walking over to the wall to a speaker, she asked why he was there.
“I just wanted to check on you Lilly.”
“It is late Edward. I am just about ready to go to bed. I told you not to come by.”
“Lilly why are you being so difficult?”
“Why are you being so persistent? What do you want with Pan?” she demanded
“Nothing. I am just worried about you.”
“I am fine Edward. Now please leave. I am going to sleep. Goodbye.”
Leaving the speaker, Lilly came and watched Edward stand at the gate for a few minutes then get into his car and left.
“Rian, I don’t think we have seen the last of him,” no sooner then she said that, her alarm went off. Changing to different cameras, she found four men at the west side of her perimeters fence.
“They could spend all night trying to get thru that fence. It is protected by magic.”
‘Will it harm them?’
“Only if they continue to touch it. It will also weaken it some, but not enough to worry about unless they bring explosives which I doubt. That would make too much noise.”
Suddenly her phone rang, “Hello?”
“Dr. McAdams, this is Dr. Mathews.”
“Hi Dr. Mathews, is anything wrong?”
“I am not sure. Two guys came into the lab this afternoon asking about you. They said they knew something about the panther shooting. I said you were out for a couple of days and I would take a message. They asked to see the panther and I told them they couldn’t. They became agitated and I told them that they should contact the police if they have any info on the shooting. I told them to leave. They finally did but I didn’t like them.”
Lilly frowned, not liking the sound of these two men, “Thanks for the heads up. I will talk to Milt about them. Is everything else okay?”
“Dr. Woodworth is acting strange. That is all.”
“I know, he was upset I took the panther out of the lab. I will be in touch. Thanks again.”
Hanging up she looked to Rian, “Rian, I don’t like this.”
Someone buzzed just then at her front gate. Changing the camera view she found two strangers at her front gate.
Looking at the television, Rian said, ‘Those are the hunters that shot me.’
“How did they find me?” she wondered out loud.
‘I don’t know, but I am not liking this either.’
Going to her speaker, “Can I help you?”
“I understand you are the doctor that saved the panther that was found yesterday.”
“Yes I am and how did you know that?” she asked.
“We seen the story in the news paper. We have some information you might be interested with.”
“Why come to me. Why not go to the police?”
“This is something you might want to know. This animal is dangerous.”
“It is late. Come back tomorrow and I will listen to what you have to say. Goodbye,” she said then shut the speaker off.
Leaving the speaker, Lilly went to watch if they would leave and asked Rian, “Do you think that they know that I have you here?”
‘If they were at the lab I am sure they found out that you took me home. Why else would they come here if I were still at the lab?’
After they left, Lilly changed camera views back to the other group of men. Sure enough, they were still there. Checking other parts of her perimeter fence she found another couple of men with Edward on the south side. They were checking for a way thru the fence. Not five minutes later, the two hunters came into view and started to talk to Edward.
“Rian, I think it would be a good time to call your brother to come get you,” she said, looking over her shoulder at him.
