Chapter 1- Chance Encounters
The wheel of time turns and ages come and pass leaving memories, memories fade becoming desires and even the desires of a lost heart are soon forgotten. In one age the age of man a willowy breeze swept over the hollow fields and old forests of the dark land.
Over the dusty hills and shallow lakes within the land of Cairhein, a fluttering breeze blew into the small bedroom.
Coal black eyes open to the warm welcoming breeze of the heated summer dawn richly imbued with a hopeful promise of love and happiness.
Another sleepless night, he fumed inside, his snoring sibling in the bed next to him turned over and gave a particularly large snarl from his beautiful snout, he looked out the window and quickly hid himself further from the growing light in a futile attempt to prolong the reality of another harsh and painful day.
‘How exciting’ he thought to himself as he willed his body to move and to begin the work of another day on a farm.
His sleek and strong form dragged itself from beneath his thin and frail blankets, his pale arms covered in the markings of long days in the barn and the lifting of heavy items, along with a few other more fresh and noticeably vicious wounds.
He quickly covered them by putting on his shirt, he scorned himself for allowing those to be out and easily seen as they were, no matter how hot it was. Aches and pains of wounds old and new, and thanks to the previous night events he wouldn’t sit right for a week.
He began to hide his emotions within his mind and pried the look of dread off of his face, his parents never allowed him to look anything but resigned and will-less.
He glanced in the mirror adorning his brothers’ dresser before moving to wake the older boy. “Wake up, Lile.”
“If it weren't for you Kodi, I would not be so tired and worn out today, but it is worth the aggravation. I am good, aren't I.”
That was not a question.
The elder brother rose and began to get ready with the grace and motion of a man who knew how to take care of himself and was sure of everything he was.
The blunt and cold embers of his empty statement leaving no doubt that the older boy believed himself better than his younger sibling.
He left the room without waiting for his brother.
As he slowly dredged his way downstairs he heard voices in the kitchen. The wooden walls echoed with the shouts of his parents early morning ranting…. the usual.
He entered into the heat of a particularly harsh argument the rooms original occupants stood in silence as they turned and looked at him, his father just quietly shook his head and left.
His mother on the other hand looked at him as if the argument were his fault and began to glare at him with such malicious intent that he began to get worried, she slowly walked towards him…. stopping a few feet away she closed her eyes for a moment opening them within seconds the look that was placed upon her face was one of controlled rage and ecstasy it gave him goose bumps.
That was when the agony began, first a gag for his mouth then a constricting covering that kept him in place with more accuracy than actual gag and chains ever could.
He never even blinked an eye, he was used to this. Then the needles began all over his body and they didn’t stop until he was choking around the gag in between gasps for air.
Then he was left still for a second gasping for air through his nose.
She then looked at him with a sadistic smirk and he knew fear, for that smile usually meant that she was in one of her moods and he was in for pain.
He didn’t realize she had moved until she stood right before him the look never wavering she liked to see his fear and savored his tears when she was like this. She kneeled before him, simply looking.
The goose bumps however were back with a vengeance. He had no time to think before the first strap hit striking him right across the backside and the next in the shoulders, hard enough to make him stagger though they didn’t stop or slow due to his movements in fact they sped up and hit harder soon enough he was numb the tears fell from his eyes due to the intense pain he was feeling.
After what seemed like hours the agony suddenly stopped and he was released from his bonds, he fell to the floor with a resounding thump.
His every limb aching from the newly acquired injuries.
He quickly dried his eyes, how he hated them seeing him shed a tear and these fast falling drops of cold heat were well practiced and they went away as quick as they had come.
The aches he felt weren’t near enough to reduce his hard and well-used body to shed useless tears that would never do any good.
It never made a difference how hard tears fell the pain never stopped.
“Morning Lile, how did you sleep honey? I am in the process of making you a huge breakfast being the big important day that it is.”
His mother spoke in such a sweet voice no undertone of anything awry in her now smiling gray eyes.
Sparing a glance at him, the woman spoke to him.
“Since you do not seem to be hungry this morning why don't you go and help your father tend the animals.”
“Yes mother” He replied in his usual perfectly resigned voice. Starving as he was, he did not mind. It being another thing that Kodi knew and was used to it.
Having already dismissed him with her glance and statement she did not hear his reply, already at work making a massive breakfast for her beautiful boy.
Lile on the other hand heard his statement.
Looking at him with that usual superior smirk on his face. “Wow Momma. You do not have to make me such a big meal, it looks delicious.”
Mother turned and smiled serenely at her sweet child. “It is no problem at all today, will most likely be your last day with us baby. I am going to miss making you breakfast, humor your mother honey...”
Missing the rest of the conversation as the back door from the kitchen blocked the two from sight he made his way to the barn.
“Father, is there anything left for me to do? Mother thought I should come out and help you with the chores.”
Turning around from his work, the large man smiled cheekily at his almost fully grown son.
“Hey boy, what do you think? Does it look like anything needs to be done here?” his father hollered at him. His tone appropriately angry and full of hostility.
He threw something at the wall next to where Kodi was standing, but the young man was not scared he hadn't expected this again so soon though admitting to himself it was a good thing.
Grabbing him by the shirt rougher than was required he dragged the child along behind him on his way back towards the house. Grumbling lightly under his breath.
“Just go along with it or I will not be able to give you your lesson today.”
Arriving at the door to the kitchen he spoke in a voice loud enough for his wife to hear.
“Darling! I need to take the boy to my shed in the woods he is being highly disrespectful towards me.”
Struggling worthlessly against his fathers grip he started yelling obscenities at the man.
Which just earned him whack across the face he was not expecting.
As his ears rang he barely caught the muffled “Alright sweetheart! But do not take too long, also do not cause too much damage last time he took a week to heal and since today is important to Lile it would be best if the child was not too damaged to come into town, those bastards are getting nosey and the attention is unwanted.” his heart pounded with anticipation.
He was getting a lesson already this early.
It was going to be a long day.

The temperature of the forest was chilled more than it should have been to the young man, as his father dragged him towards the little shack where he was taught his lessons.
They arrived in the building and Kodi was immediately placed in an upright position.
His father just looked at him expressionlessly.
“What do you remember from the last time we were here?”
Knowing exactly what to say Kodi replied. “Focusing my mind on a single flame, feeding it completely with my emotions and everything else. You called it, the Oneness.”
Smiling proudly his father reached for the two swords they had stored here.
This was an escape for him, with his parents always fighting and his mother running the house. His father would take him out here as often as possible and train him in the art of the sword, being in the Aiel war years earlier his father had learned much.
His knowledge he imbued to his younger son the one that was more likely going to use it for the right reasons. Having taught Lile about a few stances he conveniently left out the Oneness, a warriors most valuable weapon.
“Yes, that is correct. Now what I want you to understand is that the sword is not just a weapon, but more importantly an extension of your body. Use that in battle push for protecting yourself more than attacking the enemy. Your ability to defeat an opponent is more than just attacking blindly.”
“Use the Oneness to separate yourself from you. See your adversary as more than just an enemy, see his stature predict his movements and use that knowledge to your advantage.”
Taking it all in slowly along with the sword that his dad handed to him. Kodi stored it all away and positioned himself in The Eagle Takes Flight.
“Yes father, I understand.”
Trying to calm himself from grinning proudly at his son. He held his own sword and claimed the Oneness himself.
Using Falling Water in defense to Kodi.
They were after each other like lightning, swords clashing and sparks falling they fought happily.
Kodi careful not to actually hit his father, and receiving a few gashes as payment for holding back.
They left the small building about an hour later each smiling broadly at Kodi and his improvements.
As neared the last line of trees Kodi began walking with a limp and began fake sniffles to accommodate the expected wounds he had taken while off with his father.
Feeling the hair on his neck rise he turned around to see where the sensation came from he found nothing and disregarding the thought and finished making his way back to the house.
Neither one noticing the dark figure in the shadows watching every move they made.

"Yes sir, the boy. I understand he is one of the three who you want. I would like to be the one to take care of him though sir. He is my son, and what kind of mother would I be if I did not do this.” Smiling sweetly to her companion in the shadows of the barn.
“If you wish, witch but remember the penalty for failing the Lord.”
Quick to respond. “Yes, I understand tonight not long after the moon rises it shall be done. I want to relish this one, he has always been an annoyance. Oh and tell Taim that my Lile is ripe and fresh for the picking, he is already one of us he swore it to me this morning while the others while away, and I made sure he followed the proper procedures. He shall be a great asset to Taim in his duties to the Dark Lord.”
She stopped for a moment to await recompense for speaking more than necessary.
“..and if you could tell him this before todays event I would not want my boy missing his chance to train, to harness his abilities. I can feel his strength from behind my shields in our practices. He is going to rock the very foundations of Rand al'Thors existence!”
“Be that as it may woman, I will let Taim know...but only because it would be a shame to let such a promising prospect, slip through our fingers. Also wench I want be certain of the other ones demise, when it is done come to me.”
“Yes, sir”
Smokey gray eyes bowed to the Myrdraal as he moved away, disappearing in shadows.
Smiling all the while. She would do it she would kill that wretched child before he even knew what fate had in store for him, and she would do much more than that.
This house and this life had run its course, time to pay the piper.
