A/n: I’m posting the first few chapters at the same time, just because the first one was rather short. Here’s chapter 2.
D/c: Don’t I wish? It’s definitely not mine.
Chapter 2: The Visit.

Izzy sighed as her ‘mother’, Anna, maneuvered their car along the stretch of road that was the Cullen driveway.
“We’re not staying long.” Anna was saying. “Long enough to introduce ourselves, tell them we’re moving, and get the hell out of dodge.”
“Anna, we just moved back. Seriously.” Izzy grumbled. “If they’re like us, and I’m sure they are or they wouldn’t be moving here, then there’s no reason we can’t peacefully co-exist.”
“You know why we don’t stay where there are other vampires, Izzy.” Anna snapped.
“Yeah, because you’re worried that the Volturi are going to find out about me and that I’m going to get killed, and you won’t have your companion slash weapon anymore.” Izzy growled. “Fact remains I don’t want to leave.”
Anna shook her head. “You realize that you’re enough to give a vampire a headache?”
“What’s your point?” Izzy asked. “You raised me, remember that part in your issue. You’re the one that kidnapped me as a child and whisked me away to raise me so that you could turn me.”
Anna stopped the car as they reached the house. “You’re getting on my last nerve, Izzy.” She snapped. “Now, stay in the car.”
Izzy rolled her eyes as she looked around the yard. There were people everywhere. They had their own little town here. Freaky. She noted several the Native American kids were running around with two teen girls, no older than seventeen or so. A couple of the Natives were in wolf form.
There was also a gorgeous brown haired, female, vampire standing by, watching as well. Izzy groaned. She was fucking hot, to use the slang of teens today. There really was no other word for it. She was an incredibly attractive woman. She had a patient smile on her face as she watched the vampire-esk girl and the dark skinned girl race around the yard.
Izzy averted her eyes to the bronze haired male walking out of the house with a smiled on his lips. Damn. There were two of them. That wasn’t fair. Her dead heart sank, losing hope as they wrapped their arms around each other. Already mates. It figured.
The male looked back at her and grinned. Izzy was stunned for a moment. Not only was that the most sexually attractive grin she’d ever seen, she was certain that he knew what she was thinking. She was sure he was a mind reader. When he nodded she groaned. Terrific, she’d just made a complete fool of herself without speaking a world. It had to be a new personal record.
Anna was already out of the car, talking to a tall blond male in a well-tailored beige button up shirt and slacks. He had a little red haired woman on his arm. They must be the adults in this outfit. Carlisle and Esme, Izzy guessed, trying to take her mind away from the mind reading god and his brown haired goddess.
Anna’s eyes were darting around to the others in the yard, her nose wrinkled from a smell that was blocked by the glass and metal frame that surrounded Izzy. There was a hulking black haired male, a petite little black haired female, a leaner second blond male, and a bombshell of a blond female.
“Why doesn’t your companion join us?” The man Izzy assumed to be Carlisle asked.
Anna’s eyes darted to Izzy, who was moving to remove herself from the car. She was not happy with the way the conversation was going.
Izzy stood and closed the car door behind her, leaning against the bright blue Prius that Anna had insisted on getting. Izzy had wanted the Mustang.
Izzy vaguely noted the staring of the two vampires she’d noticed earlier. “Yo.” She said, her attention on the blond male in front of her. “I’m Izzy.” She said.
“Carlisle, pleasure to meet you.” He said, smiling at her.
“Likewise.” Izzy told him. “Welcome to Rockford.”
“Thank you.” The woman said. “I’m Esme.”
“I figured as much.” Izzy said, smiling at the woman. “I’m pretty good at recognizing clan leaders.”
Carlisle’s eyebrows went up. “Really?”
Izzy nodded. “Occupational Hazard.” She told him.
In response to the confused looks she received she merely shrugged. They didn’t need to know what she meant. It wasn’t their business.
The bronze haired male walked over with his mate. “Edward.” He said, holding out his hand. “What do you mean it’s not our business?”
“It’s my gift.” Izzy told him. “Or rather, part of it, anyway.” She started replaying some of it in his mind for him, so that he could tell his family later if he needed too. Her childhood had been all about development of certain skills. Along with the basics of knowledge she was taught to read people, body language, tone, all of the things that drove psychologists and sociologists crazy trying to figure out and remember. When she was finally changed at eighteen she was proficient in all of it. She could tell what a person was thinking just by looking at them. It had traversed into part of her power. Her natural love of fire, something uncontrollable, like she wanted to be, had developed into her main power. She could control fire. On the next layer of her power there was the attribute that it would kill anyone who regularly consumed human blood. She couldn’t drink human blood because it would burn her from the inside out. On the third layer, if she needed too, all she had to do was release her control and it would burn out the leaders first, then it would make its way down the ladder, killing all of the opposing, human killing, forces that stood against her. There was a fourth layer, though it wasn’t as dangerous. It allowed her to sense who and what was around her, without injuring anyone or thing. It was simple sensory, only more adept than any normal vampire senses. Anna lived in fear that her only protection would one day be discovered by the Volturi and be destroyed.
“I wish we had met you earlier.” Edward said in a low voice. “We could have used your help immensely several years ago.”
Izzy rolled her eyes. It was always about the power.
“That’s not how I meant it.” Edward told her. “We like knowing the other vampires out there. Carlisle has friends all over the world that are our kind. True enough it would have been your power that would have been the greatest help in our situation, I truly didn’t mean it the way it sounded.”
Izzy nodded, understanding what he meant.
Anna looked at Izzy. “We need to go. Now.” She said quickly.
Izzy glared at her creator. “Whatever.”
“Are you moving out?” Esme asked, studying the annoyed look on Izzy’s features.
“Yes, it’s nearly time for us to move on again.” Anna told her. “We’ll only be here a few more weeks. Long enough for the school semester to end.”
Izzy snorted. They had only been there six months as it was. Anna just wanted to move because if the Volturi thought there were too many vampires here, they would move, and then Izzy was dead.
Edward gave her a perplexed look and shrugged.
“I guess we’ll see you in school.” He said, smiling.
Izzy shrugged. “Maybe. Depends on how much longer I can stand the teachers.”
Edward nodded and backed away from the car as Anna got in the driver’s seat and sped away.

“You’re a bitch.” Izzy snapped as she jumped out of the car in their driveway an hour later.
“And you’re ungrateful.” Anna snapped back at her from across the car. “After everything I’ve done for you in the last 75 years and you’re going to make nice with another coven?”
“Oh, get over it.” Izzy growled. “You’re as manipulative as the Volturi. If I could have left you then I would have by now, trust me. Until I find my mate, I’m stuck with you.” She spun and stormed towards the house. “You made sure of that when you turned me.”
Anna followed. “You know that’s not true. You simply know that you have nowhere else to go.”
“No, it’s not that I have nowhere else to go. Believe me, I could live as a nomad for a while.” Izzy told her. “Whether you realize it or not, Anna, you have a power, and hell be damned if it isn’t magnetism. Even if it is for your own creations.” She stormed into her room and slammed the door, ignoring the shrieking growl that sounded from her creator on the other side.
That stupid bitch was so controlling. It wasn’t as if Izzy had any friends as it was. No one wanted to be friends with a freak. She couldn’t kill anyone so she was safe from it. Every instinct in her body told her to stay away from human blood. The revulsion was nearly overwhelming at times.
Izzy lay in her bed, letting her mind wander where it wanted. It strayed back to Edward and his mate. They were both absolutely gorgeous, of course, but off limits. She was … drawn to them. She didn’t know how to explain it, even to herself. Something about them sent every nerve on alert, and not in a bad way. The whole time she’d been standing there, she’d been hyper aware of where they were, how they were standing. She’d, for some reason, adjusted herself accordingly.
Now that she reflected on it, it wasn’t so different from the way Carlisle and Esme moved together, or the black haired boy and the blond girl, or the blond haired boy and the black haired girl ... That was going to get confusing if she didn’t get names soon.
Izzy sighed and shook it out of her head. She didn’t need to go there. If she went there, she was bound to like it there. If she liked it there, she was bound to keep going back. If she did that then Edward the Mind Reader was going to know about it and she would be the first vampire in history to blush.
The Blushing Vampire … there was a funny thought.
Izzy shook her head again. She needed music. Something to focus her attention on. She grabbed her I-pod and her new novel and lay back on her bed. This existence … it was rather boring.
