Note: Please review and tell me what you think when you are finished reading. I just finished five of the books and watched Seasons 1 and 2. I do believe I like the television show a lot better. It gives all the characters more depth.
Summary: A dangerous power visits the people of Bon Temps and slowly drives them insane with his mythological voice. Maryann welcomes the immortal with blood soaked talons wide open. Language, MM, OC, Violence
Chapter One
Painted eyes snapped open and were quickly narrowed into venomous slits. The maenad rose from her silken sheets in predatory silence and stood at the window, gazing down at the shimmering swimming pool below. There was something out there, beyond the thin glass, slithering around under the pale moonlight. She could sense and feel whatever it was, dancing from giggling shadow to giggling shadow.
Maryann unlocked (such a pain) the window with a small click and gently pushed it open. The humid breeze ruffled her long hair, smelling of grass and other growing flora. And that was when she heard it. It was the music of the ocean gods. The sound was so faint, but it was strong enough to push and pull at her. Oh, how those enchanted strings strummed through her immortal veins, calling, beckoning for her to come running.
In a sharp hiss of flowing white silk, she jumped out the open window, landing on her bare feet without making a single sound. She raced through the darkness with the swiftness of Artemis’ Ceryneian deer. Her talons grasped small trees and pushed aside vines without so much as snapping a single branch. She was gentle and kind to nature, but harsh and cruel when the wild moods suddenly came upon her like a bad headache.
“Baby loves to dance in the dark.”
The voice struck her right between the eyes like a bullet being fired from a really big gun. She nearly stumbled and fell from the shock. It had been centuries (at least 30) since she had last heard such beauty (if that was even the word for it).
She crouched down in the dense brush, peering out with glowing eyes. A wicked smirk instantly graced her lovely face. It was an oceanid, a child of the sea, a male siren.
What was a son of the Sea God doing here? She had never seen one this far inland before.
The graceful creature was stunning to look at. His beauty was like the ocean. It was calm and sunny one moment, and wild and unforgivably violent the next. Like a wave, his beauty could knock an unsuspecting mortal down and drag them under to drown.
“Some boys won’t dance to the beat of the track.”
Well, the three naked men dancing around him sure were dancing to the beat of his bewitching track. Their cocks were so hard and stiff they looked like they would ejaculate blood instead of semen.
The siren strummed his magical instrument and the honey sweet sound it made was beyond human comprehension. It was seductive, maddening, chaotic, and deadly. His smile was more devastating than Hurricane Katrina (his father had caused it). The three young men looked to be in their early twenties and they were lost in the sound of his enchantment.
“In the dark
He loves to dance in the dark
In the dark
Oh, he loves; he loves to dance in the dark.”
In a rush of salt smelling sea, the three young men floated up off their bare feet as if they were underwater. They looked as if they were caught in a slow moving whirlpool, kicking their hairy legs as if fighting to reach the surface that would never come. Their handsome faces turning purple, but were still smiling in bliss.
Maryann’s eyes widened. The three young men ejaculated onto the siren before going limp in death’s cold arms. They had drowned in invisible water.
A pulse went out from the oceanid, sending the smiling corpses flying backwards from him. His musical voice soared and his flesh shimmered like snow under moonlight. The dead men’s seed bubbled on his white flesh, vanishing in small hisses, like incense smoke.
The siren began to dance amidst the cooling bodies as if they were not there. She wondered how many bones littered his underwater grotto. He felt old to her. In fact, he felt very, very old to her.
She dropped her clothing and stepped from the foliage. The oceanid stopped, frozen like a drop of rain in the air.
“That was some performance, caviar,” she said, snorting at the dead men’s death erections. They just looked silly. Males died so funny. “Do you always attract such a hard audience?”
The oceanid spun around like a snarling shark and darted off into the forest like a blazing silver star, leaving her blinking. A moment of confusion on her part passed and she suddenly remembered what shy creatures they were. They do tend to dart when surprised.
“Well,” she snickered, stepping over a dead guy’s empty husk. “Critters come and go so strangely here.”
That was when she noticed the oceanid’s lyre. It was leaning up against a small stone.
She knelt down and picked it up very carefully. The siren wouldn’t get too far without it. In fact, he would come right to her in order to get it back.
The divine instrument would make a wonderful offering to Dionysus. He loved music, song, and dance.
Oh, it was fucking perfect! She gave the lyre a good strum. She would use the oceanid to lure her husband out of myth. He couldn’t resist a beautiful voice anymore than a bee could resist a sweet smelling flower.
She laughed, walking back to her newest house. She now had one more offering for her wondering deity. Now, he really would come and bed her.

Note: The song lyrics belong to Lady Gaga and the song is called Dance in the Dark. I just changed some words around here and there in order to suit my dark devices. If you have not heard this song, then you should really do so. I love Lady Gaga and True Blood is made of awesome. Maryann was the reason why I watched the second season. She rocked that little hick town.
