Clary entered the room that was next to her bedroom and found Magnus standing with his back towards her. He seemed to take up the whole place and she was too scared to move closer to him but that was okay, he turned and looked at her before moving his fingers slightly and the door closed quietly. He still didn’t say anything to her, he opened his mouth a few times but the words wouldn’t leave his lips. Last night it had been sadness, loss, fear and unfulfilled sexual need that had driven him to practically attack her. He was just plain lucky that she was eighteen years old and her mother didn’t know or he’d be dead.
“Clary” He said, still not looking at her because he was worried that if he did then the lust would overtake him again “About last night…”
“I know” She said, not wanting him to tell her that she was a mistake…she knew that was how Jace saw her “It was a mistake to never be revisited again. No need to say it aloud, that way no one’s feelings get hurt in the process”
“Don’t say it like that” Magnus finally turned and looked at her, piercing her with his green cat-eyed stare “I am…way too old for you. I was born in the 1700’s Clary!” He shook his head “I’ve never had an interest in women and…your mother would kill me if she knew”
“She does know” Clary told him and his eyes snapped back to hers “I told her this morning, we weren’t as smooth as we thought we were because she and everyone else knew something was going on”
“They thought we were fighting” He said “Maybe I should make a spell…”
“No” She snapped “Don’t worry Magnus…just forget that it ever happened”
Clary turned and stormed out of the room and made her way to the gym. She was supposed to be learning to fight anyway and she as well use her anger for extra energy. It was a few hours before Clary had finally used up the last of her energy and turned to the doorway. Alec stood there with Magnus, Alec was talking to him about something and gesturing wildly but Magnus’s eyes were locked on the sweaty eighteen year old girl that was wiping her face of a towel. When she walked by he gave her a small smile that she didn’t return, she continued on past and went to her bedroom to shower and dress before coming out to do some bookwork. When she was in the library going over different forms of protection runes and writing up notes about how to change them and make them her own, her mother came in and looked around before closing the door and drawing a rune on the door to keep people from coming in or overhearing.
“Clary…” Jocelyn sighed, she sat down and looked at her daughter as if she didn’t even know who she was anymore. No longer the scrawny and gawky child and preteen she had been there sat a young lady with womanly curves and a mature attitude about most things. However, Jocelyn knew that she had sheltered Clary too much and her daughter was naïve about things such as relationships, sex and boys/men.
“Yeah mom?” Clary answered pulling her mothers attention back to the conversation she had planned out.
“Clary” She said again “I wanted to talk to you about the conversation we had this morning”
“Mom…” Clary groaned “Can we drop it…Magnus and I already decided that it was a mistake and…”
“You talked with Magnus already?” Jocelyn asked “When and where, I mean Alec’s been stuck to him like glue all day”
“We talked right after I talked to you” Clary said “In the bedroom next to mine…”
“You were in a bedroom with him?!” Jocelyn looked outraged.
“Mom!” Clary snapped dropping her pen on the desk “I’ve been alone in a bedroom with Simon loads of times and you’ve never had this reaction before”
“It’s because I knew that Simon never had a chance” Her mother said “But Magnus…”
“Mom” Clary held her hand up “Just…”
“Clary!” Jocelyn snapped causing her daughter to shut her mouth and look at her “I know that you’re eighteen and are able to make your own decision but please…please think before you act. You’re not done with your shadow-hunter training, you’ve not gone on to the art-school you wanted to go to and you have no-way to support a baby…”
“WHOA!” Clary held her hands out to her mother to stop her words “Holy shit mom. Where the hell did the phrase ‘I want to have a baby with Magnus Bane’ come in to this conversation?” She looked flabbergasted “We kissed and that is all” She decided that in light of her mothers newest advice she’d leave out the slowly stripping one another part “We were just caught up in the moment and our separate heartaches and we just…kissed”
“He is very…very old” Jocelyn said “And he’s a downworlder. Honey, I know that the thought of being with a downworlder is exciting but in the end its just…not”
“Is that what bothers you?” Clary asked her mother “That I could have possibly had sex last night or is it that I could have possibly had sex with a downworlder last night?”
“Clary Fray…” Jocelyn started.
“Mom” She said firmly “Prejudice isn’t just against the color of someone’s skin and how they act, talk or their orientation. You are proving that you are prejudice against something that he couldn’t help, how is it that you can love Luke though he’s a werewolf and yet act all uppity when it comes to Magnus because he’s a warlock. You only have yourself to blame for me not hating the same way you do…you had my memories taken from me!”
“Clary” Jocelyn hissed “I only have a problem with Magnus because he had his tongue down my newly eighteen year old daughters throat considering on sticking other things in…god only knows where!”
“Ew!” Clary screamed “Mom!” She slammed her books shut and stood up “You are so disgusting. I cannot even believe you are my mother right now, oh my god…I don’t even know you anymore, let me out of here”
“Clary” She sighed “Please…”
“Let me out, now” Clary demanded and her mother stood and carved another rune in to the door to let her out. Luke came to stand behind Jocelyn who was standing in the doorway watching her angry daughter storm down the hallway. She watched Clary push Jace out of her way when he tried to stop her to talk to her.
“Oh look there” Luke whispered to her “There’s Magnus” He smirked when Jocelyn ground her teeth together.
Luke was right of course as Clary stormed past Jace and was about the turn the corner when she slammed right in to the warlock she had just fought with her mother about. He put his hands up on her shoulders to steady her and keep her from falling, once she got her footing back under control she looked at him. His brows raised a little bit and he smirked at her before moving aside and letting her storm past him. Luke shook his head and looked at Jocelyn to see her glare harder at Magnus before turning back in to the library. He watched her storm around the space, picking things up and dropping them back down and rearranging stuff before sitting down looking completely deflated.
“Luke” She said “Clary accused me of being prejudice”
“You probably surprised her” He said wisely “She got defensive” He looked at his feet and mumbled something out that she didn’t hear.
“What was that?” She asked “Luke, you need to speak a bit louder”
“I said that you should just let things happen as they will” Luke answered looking at his feet again.
“What is it that you sense?” Jocelyn asked him “I know that you’ve picked up on something, what is it?”
“I don’t know” He said “It could be something or it could be nothing”
“What is it?” She repeated
“Clary’s hormones are all over the place. She’s angry, scared, nervous, sad and confused…that’s normal but Magnus, at his age should be fairly normal to read” He said
“And he isn’t” Jocelyn guessed.
“He’s as confused, hurt and scared as she is” Luke answered “But his arousal becomes more noticeable when she’s around and that confuses him the most. He’s always been attracted to men, since he was teenager so these new feelings scare him and that would be why he told her to back off. The thing is, Jocelyn, if Clary and Magnus have the same kind of bond that we have than he will never be too far from her even if they’re never together romantically”
“Wouldn’t we have noticed the “bond” when she was younger and met when he took her memories?” Jocelyn asked “IF there really is a bond”
“Not necessarily” He said “She was really young. It may have been the reason that he never left the city until she did but they never spent any time together and the bond at that age would have been protection not romance”
Luke was right once again and Jocelyn knew that but it didn’t keep her from hoping that her daughter would be able to have a normal romantic life. She should date a few guys, meet a man when she was twenty-one or older, fall in love, get married and then have children weather he be mundane or shadow-hunter. A bond to a downworlder could sound romantic to some but when you experience it, it’s something else completely. Jocelyn felt the bond with Luke immediately, she ignored it of course because it wouldn’t due to have one of the best shadow-hunters in love, bonded or married to a downworlder. She met and married Valentine and started a family with him. Luke stayed close by, watching and waiting, knowing that someday she would need him and he would always be there for her. It was romantic if one cut out the fact that she would never truly be happy with any other man. She wanted something different for her daughter, a normal life and a normal love…a warlock was not what she had in mind.
A/N: So, this hasn’t been updated in years. I wrote the first chapter straight from the book but now I have to movie and TV show to refer back to. I lost my books so I am not sure how old Clary Fray actually is so I stuck with 18. I don’t remember when Magnus was born so I made that up and I apologize if it offends you. I hope that someone likes this and will review it and let me know if they’d like me to continue on with this.PLEASE REVIEW!!!!
