Authors Note: Sorry about the delay in updates. Life's been hectic. Anyway just thought I'd include this disclaimer in along with my author note, so here goes. I do not own nor profit from any part of this story. The only things that belong to me are A'marie her mom and the story plot.
It was about five o’clock when A’marie pulled er car to a stop in front of a small house on the reservation that the gas station attendant down the road had directed her to. Before she could think of a reason not to go up there and introduce herself she got out of her car and quickly made her way up to the front door.
She was just about to knock when the front door was opened by a man in a wheel chair. “Hello, can I help you?” he asked with a weary look at her.
“Hello, my name is A’marie Black. Are you Billy Black?”
The words had barely left her mouth before the door was slammed shut in her face. And from the sounds coming from inside the man and his wheel chair were moving away from the door. That was it if he wanted to be like that then she would just leave. She was down the steps and halfway back to her car when the front door opened once more. This time it wasn’t her manner deprived uncle in his wheel chair. In his place was a young man about her age or there about from what she could tell.
He caught up with her as she reached the driver side door of her car. “Please wait..” he began as place himself between the car door and her.
Damn it! What was it with the rude men in this family. Her mom had to be off her rocker when she made her will. There was no way that her loving, hardworking mother would have wanted her to stay with these people. But of course that was what was written in her will. With an irritated sigh she stepped back away from her car and the man blocking her from it.
It was easy to see the relief that etched itself across the young mans face as she backed up. “You have five minutes, starting now so you had better make it good.” she ground out as she stood there waiting to see what excuse he was going to come up with to explain their rudeness.
“First of all my names Jacob Black. I’m Billy’s son so I guess that makes me your cousin. I’m not sure why my dad was so rude like that, especially to a family member but I’m sorry about the way he was acting. Not to mention that he never said a word about having a sister or any other relatives for that matter.” he began leaning back against the side of her car.
He never mentioned her or her mom? Why did that not surprise her in the least. The man had never, not even once tried to get in contact with her so why would he mention them to his son? Pushing those irritating thoughts aside she tried to focus back on what Jacob was saying.
“.................I would like to get to know you, so if you’d stick around a while we can hang out and chat. You can stay in my sisters room since she’s not here.”
“Wait a minute there slugger. I hate to interrupt you but do you really think your dad would want me here? He hasn’t ever tried to get in contact with me or my mom so why would he let me stay?” With a quick glance at her watch she stepped up to the driver side door and took hold of the door handle.
“Can you please move so I can leave? I promised you five minutes of my time and that was up ten seconds ago.” she told him irritably.
“No. I won’t move until you agree to stay. It doesn’t have to be here at the house but at least promise that you’ll stay in Forks at least.” he wheedled trying to get at least this small promise from her.
“If I promise to stay in town for a little while you’ll move and let me by? Then ok, I’ll stay in town at a motel. We’ll see how things go from there. Now move!” she grated at him, her hand still holding on to the door handle.
“Alright, thank you for staying.” with those simple words her cousin moved form his place against her car door and watched as she climbed inside, started the car and drove away.
