Okay, this has got to be someone’s idea of a joke. This chick does look a lot like Bella Swan, she did a good job. She didn’t have to go and hurt herself though, falling in would have sufficed. Maybe she really is klutzy. I don’t know, I am just glad she is not actually crazy.
“Did Mark put you up to this?”
“Who is Mark?”
“It’s okay. You can tell me. I won’t be mad; I think its funny.”
“I don’t understand…what do you want me to tell you?”
“Okay…fine. What’s you real name?”
“I just told you. My name is Bella Swan.”
“Ok then Bella, where is Edward?”
“Who is Edward?”
“You know, Edward Cullen your vampire soul mate? Where is he? I would sure like to meet him.” Now it was her turn to look at me like I was crazy. This actress Mark got is pretty good, I must admit.
“Look, I don’t know what’s going on. All I know is my name is Bella Swan. I just moved to Forks, Washington to live with my dad, Charlie. And as of this morning, I was wandering around my school, lost, which is how I ended up here.”
Then she started crying. She really was good, crying on cue like that. Still….I wondered if maybe she really was crazy or was a runaway teen or something. Seeing people cry always makes me feel bad, even if I know they are faking it. So I grabbed a tissue, handed to her and took a seat beside her on the bench.
“Well, why don’t you show me where this door on the fourth floor is okay?”
She just slowly nodded her head and wiped at her tears. She seemed embarrassed that she had been crying in front of me. We both stood up and I led the way to the elevators and pushed the button for the fourth floor.
“It was somewhere down here.” She said, turning left.
I don’t know why I was doing this. I will probably get written up for not staying by the pool. I am sure that lady needs a refill on her Margarita by now. I will just have to explain it all to Mark when he gets back. If this is all a joke, its his fault I am not at the pool anyway.
“Here.”
She stopped in front of a door I have never noticed before. The plaque that usually says what room it is was blank. I slowly turned the handle to peek inside. If this was a horror movie, I would definitely be the stupid girl who gets killed first. It was just a storage room, like she said, but on the other side was another door. She was walking to it, looking very relieved that she was able to find it again.
“Come through with me and I will show you.” She said.
So I followed her through. She was right it opened up into an empty hallway.A huge smile broke out on “Bella’s” face. I really had no clue where we were but I just couldn’t believe I had jumped into Twilight. I felt compelled to follow her anyway. She started walking faster and faster, eager to find out if she had really made it back. She went busting through the door on the other end of the hall, crashing into someone and sending their books and paper everywhere.
“I am so sorry!” she said.
“Hey, its no problem,” replied a male voice. We all bent down to help pick up his stuff.
“You’re the new girl, right? Isabella?” he asked.
“Just call me Bella.”
“I’m Mike. Mike Newton.”
And with that, I fainted. When I came to, they had me sitting at an empty table in the cafeteria. Everything was exactly how it was described in the books. I was in Forks, Washington, but not the Forks in my world, the Forks in Bella’s world. Edward’s world.
“Are you sure we shouldn’t take her to the nurse?” Mike asked.
“No!” I shouted back, startling them both. “I’m fine. I just…uh…took too much allergy medicine today. It makes my head feel funny sometimes. “
“Ok,” he said. “Well if you are sure you will be ok, I better get going. It was nice running into you.” I looked up at him and he was saying that to me! And he winked at me! Yeah right, dream on Newton. What am I saying? A fictional person hits on me and I’m pissed? HE ISN’T REAL!
“I need to get out of here.” I told Bella. “This is just too weird.”
“Tell me about it. I’ll walk you back. I forgot my backpack in the…uh…other place anyway. It’s sitting in the locker room”
So we walked back to the deserted hallway and through to the other door which would lead back to my world. Bella went through first and that’s when it happened.
SLAM!
The door had shut between us, with her on my side and me on hers. This was not good.
‘Bella? Bella!”
“It won’t open!”
We both were trying the handle and ramming into the door, nothing would happen. This was definitely not good. We tried the door for over half an hour and both finally just sat down. At least we could hear each other.
“What do we do?” she asked.
I had absolutely no idea what we should do. I was trying my best to keep a level head about everything. I still didn’t really believe I was in Twilight. That just wasn’t possible, was it? If it is remind me to go ahead and jump into Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre when I get home. I would mind getting to know Mr. Darcy and Mr. Rochester on a more personal level, if you know what I mean. This had to be a dream; there was just no other option.
“This has got to be a dream. You are a figment of my imagination. I am rather proud of myself actually, you seem very real.”
“BECAUSE I AM REAL!” she shouted in the way of a five-year old. Bella sure was whiney.
“Ok..ok. You’re real. Sheesh.”
It sounded like she was crying again, but I didn’t know what to say. We just sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. I could hear Bella’s heavy breathing from the other side of the door. She must have cried herself to sleep. I had no idea how late it was getting, but we just couldn’t stay here forever.
“Hey Bella?” I knocked gently on the door.
“Yeah?”
“We need to come up with some sort of plan. It doesn’t look like we are going to be able to get through the door anytime soon.”
“Yeah.” She sniffled. “I guess you are right.”
“Ok. So here is what I am thinking…I will go to Charlie’s house and say that you were just too upset and ran away to be with your Mom. You knew you weren’t going to be happy in Forks. I am sure he will understand. I will say that you and I are penpals and we talk online on occasion. I can say that I was visiting family in Seattle and decided to drop by and see you but you phoned me to say you were leaving. I will then tell him I need a place to stay because I had intended to stay with you and I have no money for a hotel. I am sure he will help me out. He is a police officer after all, can’t let a lonely teenage girl go wandering around with nowhere to stay.”
“How do you know about Charlie? How do you know so much about me?”
“I told you. You are a fictional character; I have read your life.”
“I still don’t understand.”
“Well…I am sure you will. I need you to tell my friend Mark what happened. He works at the resort and you can tell him the truth, he may not believe you at first but he will eventually. Just keep trying to prove to him who you are. He should be able to think of something to tell my mom. He will also let you stay at his place tonight. Look, we need to get going. I am sure it is pretty late.”
“Yeah, I guess you are right.” She said.
“Let’s meet here tomorrow at 5:00 ok? See if the door will open?”
“Why so late?” Bella asked.
“Because,” I said “If this is really happening I want to do some exploring around my favorite book.”
And maybe meet Edward Cullen…
