The Vampire Senate was located outside of Vegas maybe a few hundred miles from nowhere and another hundred miles from your ol’ one horse town. Basically it was smack dab in the middle of the desert. Luckily we had air conditioning. Which, to my dismay, Mordigan turned off and got out of the car. I followed with a not so happy attitude as sweat trickled down my back and soaked my t-shirt. How could it rain and be hot at the same time? ‘Do you have a death wish?’ I asked as I caught up with him. ‘No. Why?’ he actually looked confused as to why I was asking such a question. ‘No reason. Just thought you would want to at least leave me with your last wishes before you died.’ ‘I do not appreciate your sarcasm Elleanor.’ He looked at me with a disapproving expression. One of those looks that your parents would give you when you did something stupid. ‘Uh-huh.’ I murmured. We were silent the rest of the way to the entrance. When we got there a man, human, stopped us and asked why we were at The Senate’s building. Mordigan sarcastically said ‘for pleasure’ and after they looked me over and smiled, we were immediately taken in. I probably looked like shit so I was still wondering what the smiles were for when I limped up behind the old bastard that got me into this mess.
The inside of the Senate building was pretty nice. Old world decorated, with paintings from famous artists that had been dead for centuries hung every few inches on the walls. I looked up on a hunch and sure enough the ceiling was painted with an old Michael Angelo like mural. I rolled my eyes, Vampires.
‘This way sir.’ A man said as he took us through yet another door. I hadn’t counted but we must have gone through at least 7 by now. Yet again no way was I escaping this place if I needed to run.Eventually we ended up in an office type room with a single desk and no other furniture. ‘Please sit. The Consul will be with you shortly.’ I looked around to see if I could find a chair to sit in just as a man came in with two chairs. Both men left after Mordigan had sat down. He looked quiet cozy in his chair and I wondered how exactly he wasn’t peeing his pants. ‘You did not have to come if you didn’t want to.’ Mordigan said raising an eyebrow. ‘Who’s going to bail you out if you get yourself into trouble again?’ I asked sitting beside him in my chair. It was in fact as comfy as Mord made it look. ‘I don’t see what you could do against a vampire.’ I was about to tell him exactly what he could do with my help if he didn’t want it when a woman came into the room, steeling my thunder. I felt her more than saw her. She had a huge power emanating from her that pushed against me somehow. It gave me an instant migraine. ‘I do apologize for the wait Mordigan. It is lovely to see you.’ Her voice was like silk. She had a perfect English accent and every word flowed smoothly together, like they were meant to follow one another. When I finally looked up at her, after squeezing my head between both hands in pain, I saw red eyes boring down on me. Her fangs were extended, which either meant hunger, desire, or great pleasure. I wasn’t sure exactly what I made her feel but it probably wasn’t desire or pleasure. ‘Who is this young lady?’ she asked as she continued to stare. ‘Elleanor Dimitrious.’ Mordigan said before I could refuse to introduce myself. ‘She is a friend.’ ‘Ah, well any friend of Mordigan’s is a friend of the Consul and Senate. Pleased to make your acquaintance Miss Dimitrious.’ She held out her practically see through hand. I hesitated but ended up grabbing it and shaking anyway. ‘Nice to meet you too.’ I admitted. It was a once in a life time thing to meet the Consul of the Vampire Senate. ‘Please, follow me.’ She turned and walked out of the room and down a long, the longest I’d ever seen, hallway. I grunted in annoyance but limped after them anyway. Why didn’t I listen to myself and just leave. Now of course it was too late.
We ultimately ended up in a huge office. Wooden beams held the tall ceiling from falling into itself and chandeliers hung from them. They cast deep shadows around the room and only lit up the large square table in the center of it. The Ambassador sat at the head of the table and offered us a seat on either side of her. Mordigan took his but I stood. If I sat down for 5 more minutes I would fall asleep. My leg hurt and was still bleeding. My foot hurt and was making me limp more and more with every step. Not to mention I was still shoeless. Needless to say I was ready for bed. ‘You are hurt Elleanor.’ The woman said. ‘Yeah, uh your majesty?’ I wasn’t sure what to call her. ‘You may call me Consul.’ She smiled, but for some reason I didn’t really trust that smile. Maybe because it was coming from a very old Vampire with red eyes. Most vamps didn’t have red eyes as it was a sign of young age or hunger. Being the Consul she was ancient and well fed so I didn’t get it. ‘Would you like assistance with your wounds?’ she asked. I thought about it a moment but when it came down to it they hurt and would feel a lot better if someone, something even, cleaned them out. ‘Um sure.’ Was all I said. Mordigan chuckled to himself, I could see the humor in his eyes. If he was laughing at me he was going to get one hell of a talking to after we left this place. Some woman waved a hand and a vampire came into the room. He asked me to follow him and lead me down yet another hallway. When this day was over I was never walking down another bloody hallway for the rest of my life.
Eventually the vampire dispensed me into a very fancy room. It looked to be designed after the18th century France. Plush couches circled a small wooden table in the center of the room and around it were book cases full of well books. The walls held old portraits of people who were long dead and curtains that were layered and frilled into submission. I stood there for a few moments wondering what the hell I was supposed to be doing. But that soon ended when a man walked into the over decorated room. He was tall and very handsome but not my type, not to mention a vampire, so I didn’t go week at the knees. ‘Where are your wounds?’ he asked as he kneeled in front of me. I lifted my right leg and he saw the bleeding and crusty rip in my pants. Since my foot was already washed and bandaged up I didn’t mention that one. A table full of doctor supplies was brought in by a servant and placed beside the romance novel guy as he ripped my pants open for better access. The naughty jokes I was saying to myself at that point just made me queasy so I ignored them. ‘This will sting’ he warned and opened a bottle of disinfectant. My wound wasn’t so deep but it was long and open so I almost punched him when he poured the entire bottle on me. “Forgive me but I did warn you.” He politely said. I was about to warn him about something of mine when someone ran into the room and shut the door. “Excuse me sir but you are not aloud in here.” Romance vamp said as he stood to shoo out the new arrival. “I was sent by the Consul to speak with Miss Dimitrious. In private” He announced. The vamp bowed and left the room. “You’re a bad liar you know.” I told the new guy, who was more my type and human, well looking. “Yeah well I’m gonna save your life so bite me.” He snapped. “What do you mean? ” “Mordigan was taken into custody and now they are coming here for you.
