**Internal Dialogue between Wanda and Melanie**
Chapter 2
Wanda decided to head to the kitchen and make some tea. She still did not understand why the smell of the brew seemed to always calm her. Jeb had told her about the different kinds of teas that were grown on Earth and that due to the different types; they each had different effects on people. He had let her try something called Earl Grey, which was too strong and bitter for Wanda. It was like the ‘coffee’ so many of the group drank. Jeb said that ‘coffee’ helped to get their ‘motors running’ in the morning.Wanda remembered fondly learning Jeb’s slang terms for different things. And while she never found it difficult to get motivated to move in the morning. She did see the effects on some of the others, in the mornings after they had their cup of coffee. Jeb especially liked his coffee strong and black, with some mornings waiting to see if there was enough for a second cup. It made her smile to recall the look of sadness, if there was none left. It reminded her of some of Melanie’s memories of Jamie when he didn’t get his way with something when they were younger.
Many times, Wanda noticed that human’s emotions could be clearly seen on their face. Hatred and suspicion had been the ones that she saw the most when she arrived. She learned the emotions of awe and surprise, where common, when she was telling stories of her travels. She had even grown accustomed to the looks of love from Jamie. However, she had seen one emotion on Jared and sometimes Ian of late, which she had yet to determine. Humans were a mass of emotions, sometimes it could be overwhelming for her to deal with.
Wanda heated a small pot of water, just enough for one cup. She was looking for the right tea, chamomile, if she remembered correctly, to help calm her. She failed to hear the shuffle of feet behind her. “What are you looking for now? Trying to find something to poison us with while we sleep? So you can contact the Seekers that you found a bunch of ‘host’ bodies.” came the bitter voice of Maggie, Melanie’s aunt.
Wanda spun around knocking the pot of water to the floor, spilling some of the hot liquid onto her leg. “Ow, damn it that burns!” Wanda exclaimed.
The look of shock on Maggie’s face was mirrored on her own.
Wanda had never cursed. In fact, Wanda was always calm and cool. But, something snapped inside Wanda and she snapped at Maggie. “As if any Soul would want your dried up old husk of a body. But at least that would shut you up, for once, you bitter old hag!”
“What did you just call me you PARASITE?” Maggie screeched.
Melanie seemed to have come out of hiding and interjected through Wanda. “You heard right the first time. You’re a bitter old woman that spends too much time complaining that your dead husband would run things better and fails to give Jeb the respect that he deserves. “
“Why you little slut, your mother would be ashamed of you. Flirting with all the men here, when you’re nothing but an alien bitch in Melanie’s body.”
Wanda was appalled by the way, she was acting, and there was a funny smell, which she could not identify. She ran across the room, putting several tables between herself and Maggie. She took several breaths and tried to calm down. She was having a difficult time of it and that frightened her. She was a Soul and Souls did not act this way.
“Maggie! I am sorry about what was said. Something is not right. Melanie and I are trying to figure it out. Please forgive my harsh words. You are a blessed woman who had the love of a good man and has a wonderful daughter. Be thankful for the things you have.
Yes, mourn the things that you have lost, but don’t let that anger turn to bitterness. Your strong will and indomitable spirit is needed by this group. Please forgive me; I am not acting as I should, I was wrong to lash out at you.”
Maggie shook her head and looked and Wanda anew. After a few anxious moments, Maggie took a long ragged breath. “I had a nightmare about the Seekers chasing me, and Sharon. I’m always on edge after a dream like that. Here, I’ll make you some tea.”
“Thank you Maggie, but I haven’t been feeling right since I woke. I think it’s best if I head to the bathing chamber. I need to speak with Melanie some more.
I’ll come back and help you with breakfast when I am done. Would that be alright?” Wanda wanted time for both her and Maggie to calm down.
“That will be fine dear. Just be careful of the river’s ledge. You know it gets slippery there sometimes.” And with that Maggie turned to clean up the small pot and spilled water.
Wanda went back to her sleeping chamber and gathered her bathing items. When she climbed into the bathing chamber, she released a long sigh. Allowing herself to swim about the pool, trying to relax and release the tension that seemed to have been building since she awoke.
No matter how much moving around, she still felt like something was wrong; and she knew, that it was internal. Melanie had retreated and was not responding to her calls. When she let her mind drift, she suddenly saw images of Melanie and Jared from ‘before’. This memory had them both naked and they were entwined together in a bed.
“Get out of my memories!” Melanie yelled inside her head. “Those are not for you…those are mine and mine alone.”
“I didn’t mean to intrude, they just came to me.” But, there was no response from Melanie. She had retreated again.
This was becoming increasingly annoying. Melanie was being aggressive, and Wanda herself had lashed out at Maggie. This was so unlike her. She needed to talk to Doc, something was definitely wrong.
Wanda stepped out of the bathing pool to dry off when she noticed blood running down her inner thigh. Shocked she looked for any type of cut or other injury. When she found none, she reached between her legs and her hand came away with blood.
“Melanie. Melanie, help me! Melanie, I’m bleeding and I don’t know where or why.
Damn it Melanie, answer me!” Wanda yelled at Melanie in her mind.
“What is the problem now? What did you do, cut yourself of a rock or something?”
“No, look!” and she pulled her hand away to show Melanie the blood.
“Calm down Wanda, it’s just my monthly period. We talked about it earlier; remember? It’s a normal occurrence. Human females have a monthly flow cycle.”
“Melanie, you don’t understand, this was never mentioned by the Healers. Nor was there any information about this cycle given to me before. There is something wrong! I need to talk to Doc…right now!”
Wanda dressed quickly, trying to keep her frantic pulse from sending her into outright hysteria. She ran to the medical area, only to find the room empty. She sat on the nearest bed and began to sob uncontrollably.
This is how Doc and Candy found Wanda about an hour later. “Wanda, what’s the matter? Are you injured or is there something wrong with Melanie?” Doc asked.
“I’m bleeding.”
“Where are you injured?
“I’m not injured, it’s internal. Melanie says that it’s the human’s female monthly cycle. But, I’ve never heard of it. I can feel it, something is wrong! Please help me.”
Doc stood perplexed for a moment. Then Candy, Doc’s assistant, who had once had a Healer’s Soul. Her memories from that time had aided in the healing of the small group of humans. Candy looked at Wanda with concern and asked, “Wanda are you absolutely sure about what Melanie said?”
“Yes, she told me that it was her monthly period. She was a little confused that she had not had one since we were merged. But, then I showed her the blood when I got out of the bath, she said it was the female’s monthly cycle and that there was nothing to worry about.
Candy, why are you staring at me like that? What is wrong with this body?”
“Wanda, is Melanie with you right now?” Candy asked in her ‘Healer’ voice, which only served to frighten Wanda and Melanie.
“Yes, why?”
“I want to make sure that you are both together for this.” Candy took a deep breath before continuing. “Melanie, please help me to keep Wanda calm. Wanda, Melanie was correct about the cycle…but only to a point.
Melanie, I need you to stay calm too. Because this is not normal for Souls, when they in a human host body. When a Soul is merged with a human, the female reproductive system shuts down. So Wanda is correct, something IS wrong.”
