Chapter 2 Rand POV
Rand awoke in a strange place he had never been before, it was a small room sparsely furnished, completely dark except for an almost burned out candle of the nightstand. The next thing Rand noticed was how he felt, his head was groggy. His body hurt immensely especially the wound in his side but he was used to that and could ignore it. His left arm was heavily bandaged and stiff to move. Elayne rose from her stool next to the bed as soon as Rand awoke. He threw off the thin blanket and swung his legs over the side. He wore a wispy shirt and did not know when he put it on. He began to remember some of last night's past events and put his head in his hands. Elayne sat next to him and with only her right knee touching him, her hands daintily placed on her lap. "I betrayed you," said Rand, his voice the same was a man going to his execution. " I slept with Avienda, I broke your trust. Why do you look at me like I am a good person?" he ended bitterly. Elayne stiffened when he mentioned Avienda, and a blaze lit her eyes but it quickly passed and she said in soothing tones. " I set you free, I don't own you, another woman might have taken your eye but I have your heart, you already proved that by coming back to me.You will kill her just like Ilyena, Lews Therin whispered in his mind. "I am going mad!" he cried clutching his head. "Lews Therin is in my mind, telling me to hurt people, to kill, I don't know who I am anymore". Elayne looked worriedly at him and took his hands from his head to see him shivering with fear. "I never asked for this life, I just wanted to own a farm and some sheep. Not having to see my friends die daily, because of me, it's all too much." With that last word, he broke down into body-wracking sobs. Elayne guided his hands, and placed them on her while carefully bringing his head towards her bosom, she then began tenderly stroking his hair."I am scared of myself I tried to use the power to revive a dead child, however, I failed, and almost burned myself out, I cannot save anyone". "I don't want to be alone anymore, everyone looks at me like I am a demon, maybe they are right." His words came out as a choked rush. Elayne did not say anything she just rested her head on his. He calmed down, and then truly took note of his surroundings. He was clutching elaine's slender form very tightly, and pressing his face into the front of her shift. He recoiled his cheeks burning crimson, "Thank you, I should have never tried to push you away, you saved my life, whatever you want is yours", he stammered looking down."I can't make you love me, but I want you to believe in yourself, and trust your own strength" Elayne said and gave him a shy smile. Rand wiped his tears away and smiled for the first time in what felt like forever. "You don't need my love, it was always yours. I loved you since the first day I fell into your garden, and you bandaged my hand. I would go to sloped of Shay Ghul just to see you smile. I could rule the world, but without it would be meaningless. Love is a weak word for my feelings towards you, they are so strong, they scare me because I would do anything to protect you and make you happy every day. If I have to unweave the entire pattern and break the wheel it will be a small price to pay so that you will be mine. Elayne's eye's shown clear, and vibrant just like the sky on a cloudless day.
