Please don't hate me after this chapter. The story's taken on a mind of its own...
And fyi, italics is thoughts or flashbacks (in case you didn't catch that)
I did a lot of thinking while Jasper was gone. I wanted him; that, I knew. I didn’t want to stay away from him. What I didn’t know was what would happen if he got bored with me. He said he loved me, but only after I confronted him. I didn’t know what to think exactly. I was so confused. I could understand now why I woke up alone. And he had been so gentle with me… He had given me plenty of times to stop him. I think it only hurt so much because it had been my first time. But, I had to admit, I hadn’t been sore at all this morning.
Jasper was always surprising me. We went on dates almost every week, or we just stayed home.
I remember one evening, we stayed at my house with Gramps and watched movies. I believe it was V for Vendetta that we watched first…
Anyway, after it was over, Gramps put the DVD away, turned the lights back on, and sat down in his chair, facing Jasper and me. I unwrapped myself from Jasper’s side and sat up, easily picking up on Gramps’ seriousness.
“Jasper, I need to ask you a few questions,” Gramps said quietly, sternly.
Jasper placed his hands in his lap. “Yes, sir?”
“What are your intentions towards my grandson?”
We both looked at him in shock for a moment.
Jasper regained his senses first. “Well, sir, I really don’t have any. I only want to be here for him and get to know him well. He’s helped me, sir, and I want to thank him for that.”
Gramps nodded. “No funny business?”
“No, sir.”
“Good.” He put in another DVD and hit play.
I curled back up against Jasper and squeezed his hand. He squeezed back and kissed the top of my head.
It was good to have Gramps’ approval.
I looked down at my cooling macaroni and dug in, making up my mind then and there.
I would give Jasper another chance.
It was warm in the cabin that afternoon, especially for November, so I shed my shirt in hopes of cooling off. Then, I realized the reason it was warm; or, rather, I saw the reason. Jasper had started a roaring fire to keep me warm. I smiled and turned when I felt a cold hand at the small of my back. My smile faltered when I saw who was behind me. He was blonde, like Jasper, but his eyes were a deep maroon. I backed away, towards the fire. The unknown vampire, obviously not a vegetarian, smiled sinisterly at me and took one menacing step forward.
“What’s wrong? I don’t bite…much,” he laughed. It sent fearful shivers down my spine.
“Jasper,” I whispered. The vampire chuckled.
“No, my name is Tucker. Your…Jasper is away at the moment.” His frightening grin widened. “Do you know what I am, Whitaker?”
“How do you know my name?”
“I know a lot about you.”
“You’re a vampire. A nomad, by the looks of your clothes.” His plaid shirt was barely hanging on his shoulders, his pants were worn from friction, and he was barefoot.
“Very good. I’ve found myself a little Sherlock.”
“I’m not yours, nor will I ever be.” I was surprised at the calmness of my voice. I honestly wasn’t scared; Jasper would be here soon.
“He’s not coming, you know.”
“Who’s not?”
“Your mate. I can smell him on you.” I felt my face flush, but I didn’t believe him. “Filthy vegetarian,” he growled. I glared, furious at the insult that wasn’t even directed at me.
“Shut up.” My hand was behind my back, quietly searching for the poker. I found it and stabbed one of the flaming logs.
“Ooh, fiery, aren’t you?”
I continued to glare. “I’ll show you how fiery I can be!” I swung the flaming log at him. It caught me by surprise when the fire struck him and his body began to burn. He screamed and lunged at me.
“You have to rip me to pieces to kill me!”
“God, send me help,” I whispered, suddenly on my back, trapped by the crazed vampire. He had wrapped one hand around my neck, and I could feel my lungs burn in the effort to fuel my body's oxygen supply. The fire had dwindled on his body.
Jasper came out of nowhere and tackled him, knocking him to the ground off my body. I heard a horrendous tearing sound, and then the fireplace was billowing purple smoke. Tucker was gone.
“Are you all right?” I asked, locating Jasper in the corner of the room.
“You were almost killed, and you’re asking if I’m okay?” Jasper responded, incredulous.
“I asked the Lord to send me help, and there you are. I wanted to make sure he didn’t hurt you.”
“You are always surprising me.” I stepped closer, but he stopped me. “Don’t come any closer. I need a minute.” It was then I saw the fire glint in his once-again black eyes, but they were black with anger, not hunger.
“You won’t hurt me.”
“In this state, I might.”
“But you’re not angry at me, are you?” I knew the answer. “You’re directing it at yourself.”
“That son of a bitch nearly killed you, and I wasn’t here!” He jumped from his crouch, intent on making me understand.
“And I didn’t lock the doors. Looks like we’re both at fault.”
“Locks matter little to vampires.”
“But I would have heard him rip up the door.” He looked away from me, obviously not wanting to concede. I took my chance to get closer. “Besides, I’m the one that told you to go.”
“I can’t promise not to do something rash if you come any closer.” I felt the warm feeling of love again, even though Jasper was radiating anger and self-hatred. I knew that feeling, and I knew what he needed; somehow, I was willing to give it.
“I’ll take my chances.” I held my arms out and he nearly crushed me to his chest.
“I may only be able to give you this one chance to get away. I don’t know what I’ll do.”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“I don’t want to hurt you.” His voice was raspy and strained.
“Then, don’t.”
“This is your chance. Go, now.” I clung to him; I could feel his body shaking with the tenuous control he held.
“I told you: I’m not going anywhere.”
His hands clenched on my back, and it was then I knew his control had snapped. He took my mouth in a devouring kiss. I submitted, though I knew what was coming. He ripped the clothes from my body; I let him.
“Jasper,” I said calmly. “Don’t let this control you. You can fight it.” Still, I prepared myself, consciously relaxing all of my muscles. His head rested on my shoulder. I thought he was fighting it until he picked me up and placed me on my bed. I heard him rummage in my drawers until he found what he was looking for. Hopefully, he had secretly stashed some lubrication here… He had. I felt two slick fingers shove roughly into me. I closed my eyes and tried to relax. His fingers were pulled away too soon and something else was placed at my entrance. He entered me quickly. I stifled my cry; it hurt, but I didn’t want him to know that. I calmed myself and relaxed. He hadn’t given me time to adjust, so I closed my eyes and focused away from the pain. He was moving at speeds I couldn’t follow, and his finish came quickly.
A lone tear slipped from the corner of my eye.
I didn’t feel used; I had given myself to him because I loved him. I didn’t feel betrayed; I had known what was coming. I could ignore the physical hurt, because it would heal. All I could feel and all I couldn’t ignore was the pain Jasper was experiencing from hurting me. He was sobbing tearlessly into my chest, constantly saying he was sorry. I petted his head. “Jasper, it’s ok. I’ll heal.” I kissed his hair. He pulled away from me and went in search for his clothes.
“How can you say that? I…” He couldn’t continue. His self-disgust was so strong, it almost bowled me over.
“Don’t leave.” I sat up, wincing.
“I have to. You’re bleeding.”
“Oh.”
“I’ll have Carlisle come check you out. I won’t tell anyone what happened.” I stood gingerly, but he looked away in shame. I could tell he was holding his breath. I felt something warm run down the back of my leg.
“Will you be back?”
“How could you w—”
“I love you, and love conquers all.”
“Not tonight,” he whispered. I wasn’t sure what he was replying to, but I still nodded.
“Don’t be gone too long. I need you, you know.” He didn’t respond.
After he left, I went into the bathroom to clean up as much as I could.
*peers from behind semi-protective shield* What did you think?
Gaps of Misery--Yay for realism! I think... :)
elvinwitch--Yeah, I'd say Whitaker is head-over-heels.
Song of Time--*snort* End? I have a feeling it'll be a long time before this thing finishes. I have no idea where it's going!
Just a note for everyone else, You'll See will probably end up being a long story, maybe even longer than Music. I know, chapter-wise, it's almost equal, but these are short chapters...
