I arrived at the FBI sub division around eight, the parking itself wasn’t that bad. Then again anyone with half a mind wouldn’t park their car near an FBI building, it’s like waving a red flag and saying, “come and get me”. They would do all sorts of checks and cross checks upon your vehicle just to make sure you didn’t have anything wrong on your reco I l I looked up at the forty five story building as its reflective windows shone the skyline of downtown San Francisco. Even through my shades I felt the cold stare of the security cameras follow my every movement as I made my way up the cement steps and passed the sign, which read Federal Bureau of Investigations, and underneath it in white gothic lettering was San Francisco Division. They did all the supernatural crimes within the northern and bay area parts of California, the Sacramento division did the valley and southern parts of California. I entered the lobby and was instantly greeted with sterilized atmospheric smell that had the type of coldness that would only mean complete thoroughness , it kind of matched the smell at San Francisco International. Then again the thoroughness happened afterew iew incidents that involved zombies, it’s just a precaution now. I took out my badge as I walked up to the metal detector. A woman and a man stood at there posts on either side, dressed in the standard black suit and white shirt that was the uniform of all the Feds. The man who was built like a professional wrestler just stared at me, as if he were trying to find some sort of imperfection in my posture. I tried to ignore them, it was just apart of their job and they were doing a damn fine job of it.
“Could you please remove all weapons upon your person” It was more of an order instead of a question as the woman returned mdge.dge. She was about my height, maybe an inch or so shorter but her eyes told me that she wouldn’t take any smart talk, so I held my tongue. I’m smart when it comes to the Feds they can royally mess with you if you even slightly screw up. I slowly placed my hand my jacket, fast movements would only cause them to act upon instinct. Which would probably mean I would get shot and killed, not a good way to end your nightmare filled morning and I wasn’t going to die over my gun.
I removed my Browning HP 35 from my holster and handed it to the woman hilt first. The HP 35 looked a little odd in her hands, but I bet she could use it. I glanced at her black hair, which ended at the top of her shoulders. Though I would divert my gaze as I placed my badge inside my jacket pocket. The man motioned for me to move through the metal detector as I did so, and like clockwork it buzzed as it detected metal.
“Sir, could you please follow me” It was another order and I followed the man over to a metallic table where a hand held metal detector lay. He held the detector in hand and before he could tell me, I spread my arms out. Ten points to me for remembering.
The man moved the metal detector over my entire body, the clicking noise of the metal detector sounded around my waist. I took off my belt and handed it to them as they continued, the rest of the sweep didn’t herald any more clicking noises. They returned my belt as I placed it back on. I turned to the woman.
“Can I get my gun back?” More of a tentative question then a demand, never could tell what could set them off. Better to play it safe around the sometimes trigger happy feds.
“Sorry Mr. Watson, but protocol has to be followed, you can pick up your gun at the front desk when you leave.”
“Ok, could you please tell me were the supernatural unit is located?” I was being nice, it’s not a first for me. Though when my gun was taken away I usually get defensive, paranoia at its best. I controlled it and it didn’t seem that hard. That was a first.
“Second floor and to your left about five doors down you should be able to see the office.”
“Thank you.” I saw the woman’s face slightly loosen as she held back a smile. She was probably new, Fed’s aren’t allowed to smile. It’s a rule.
I watched as my gun was placed in a paper bag and stapled as they placed it behind the front desk, great my gun is being treated like Chinese take out. I turned around as I headed towards the elevator, there was a small crowd of professionally dressed people that entered the elevator with me. I kind of felt under dressed in my black slacks, black shirt and leather jacket. Ah well it felt comfortable, that’s more then what I can say for some of the men and women that were in the elevator with me, I never did like suits. Didn’t allow me to pull out my gun fast enough. I got off on the second floor as I turned to my left, the hallway was decorated with a neo modern art and painted in a egg shell color. To tell you the truth it wasn’t art to me, as I passed the small frames by they were just red and black lines upon paper.
I saw the glass door that read Supernatural Crime Unit, I opened the door as took a step inside. The place was swarming with life as men and women walked around. Carrying folders and unmarked books. Must be a busy day.
"Hey Jacob took you a damn long time to get here."
I removed my shades as I looked to my side, Alec was standing there with his back leaned against his office door and his arms folded. We were the same height and probably around the same weight, though in his Armani suit it made him look bigger. Though the custom tailoring was done so it could hide the duel Desert Eagles that he had holstered. I never understood why he carried a gun capable of putting a rather large hole in someone, hell one was enough. Then to have two?. Though I shouldn't be talking I'm the one that would soon be the proud owner of an AL 391 Teknys. Think of a rifle on steroids and you've got the basic idea.
"Yeah well I would have been here earlier if Jack and Jill didn't stop me down in the lobby."
"Jack and Jill?"
I shook my head as he didn't get the nickname. "I was referring to the two that were manning the metal detector."
"Ahh, you mean Evan and Patricia... anyway come into my office, I have your gun... I swear and you call me a gun fiend."
He shook his head as he opened his office door, I entered and took a seat in front of his desk. His office was the type that had everything in place, all the paper work in its right place and he even had a Adiantum pedatum
in the corner, it’s a type of fern indigenous to the rockier coastal regions of tropics. I have alot of spare time.
Alec sat behind his desk as he lifted up a big cardboard boxed package from behind his desk, he handed it over to me as I stared at it.
"You can stop drooling now"
I looked up at him as I held the cardboard box on top of my knees. I couldn't wait to open it and test fire my new toy "What?"
"I saw that look of childhood glee in your face, you know that’s not healthy when it’s done in the presence of a gun..."
I smirked "Yeah whatever... can you hand me a knife? I want to open it now."
Alec shook his head as he opened his drawer and took out a letter opener. He handed it to me hilt first as I took it from him. I began to open the cardboard box and gingerly placed my hand into the popcorn insulation, I ignored the instruction manual that lay on top of everything and took out the AL 391 Teknys. It felt light, though at twenty pounds it had enough stopping power to take out a vampire. I removed the few popcorn Styrofoam that clinged to the barrel as aimed it to my side, my view cocked behind so I could see if the barrel and sight were straight. A grin crept upon my face as I placed it down.
"Totally unhealthy..."
I looked up at Alec as I placed the box on the ground, the Teknys laying in my lap.
"Pfft whatever... can I fire it now?"
My impatience for firing the was probably beginning to show, I needed to try this gun out. I was happy to have it, for my encounters with the vampires of San Francisco were beginning to get a little more violent and personal then I would have really wanted, and with that vampire killer out there. I needed all the firepower I could get my hands on.
Alec sighed as he stood up, he took out his fed badge around his neck.
"Yeah lets go... give me that gun of yours."
I stood up as I held it with my dominant hand. "Why?"
He shook his head in disappointment. "Your in an FBI building with an almost illegal firearm... what do you think will happen when you leave this office?"
"Oh yeah...forgot about that."
"Sure... like little things like 'that' slip out of your mind."
I handed him the rifle and looked at the Styrofoam that had gathered on the floor around the cardboard box, I picked up the instruction manual and placed it in my pocket. It was time to go and test the Teknys.
