This was shaping up to be quite the turn of events. Peter Pan and his lost boys actually kidnapping someone from the Jolly Rodger, and Captain James Hook having been turned into the victim. “Those filthy little spawn, how DARE they!” He yelled throwing things around the room looking for his best weapons. Bursting out of the doors of his cabin he shouted down to his crew, “INTO THE BOATS!! We go ashore!” He roared, his anger flaring.
Aurora flew up into the air looking down at her Captain, he was going ashore right now!? Couldn’t he wait until morning? Why did he have to go and bring her back already, she couldn’t allow it. Quickly flying behind his ear she started trying to whisper thoughts into his mind. ‘Caitlin wanted to go, she wanted to be rescued from the one who had kidnapped her, anything to get away from you.’ Hook paused a moment as the words crept into his mind, but instead of stopping his eagerness to get to shore, it only inflamed his temper that much more.
Smacking away the small fairy unconsciously, she went flying through the air smacking hard against a door. She flew back up into the air shaking her head, her joy she’d celebrated earlier having been completely taken away now. She had to think of something quickly. It was obvious that she couldn’t do anything more to change the Captain’s mind. Any work there was to be done would have to be with those boys. Flitting her little wings she headed for the island as fast as she could go.
The gift the Captain had brought back with him for his young bride lay wrapped and thrown aside on the deck of the Jolly Rodger. It had been completely forgotten now, there were fair more important matters to attend to. Hook could barely hold still as his body tended to shake with his anger, and the thought of her going with that young boy willingly only made his eyes flash bright red.
Caitlin lay still where she’d been left once the boys had spirited her away to some unknown place. Her head shifted from left to right, trying to see or hear anything as the area grew deathly quiet. Small whimpers started to arise from her chest trying to scream to no avail, the gag had been tied into her mouth a little to well. All at once she was picked up again with a loud roar from a bunch of young boys voices, as she felt herself being moved and pushed into a sitting position, more ropes and ties being strung around her body.
Once they had secured her tightly, Peter nodded to one of the boys who instantly removed the blindfold from Caitlin’s eyes. Keeping them closed for a moment she shook her head trying to adjust to everything. The boys started to poke at her with sticks and yell insults at her. Caitlin cried out when one had found the tender spot on her cheek and quickly turned her head away. Peter laughed, “Are you so afraid of a band of boys? You live with pirates, and the most evil of them all Captain Hook!” Caitlin’s eyes opened finally as she looked around at them. They all grew silent and stepped back looking at her with awe. Her brow furrowed as she looked around not understanding what they saw.
One of the boys reached up pointing at her, “She’s got Hooks eyes.” He said as if completely surprised to see another with eyes as blue and deep as the Captains. Peter narrowed his eyes and stood up walking towards her looking into her eyes. They were blue and as crystal clear as could be. Not the same as they were the last time he’d seen her. It was very peculiar. Reaching for his sword, he drew it holding it to her throat again.
“What are you Lady, why do your eyes keep changing?” He asked looking into her eyes for a moment, before cutting the gag away from her mouth. The boys had Caitlin tied in so tight she couldn’t even wiggle her fingers or hardly breathe. Her eyes shifted to pan, as she took a deep breath.
“My eyes have always been this color and always looked this way. What do you mean ‘changing’? They’ve never changed.” All of this was very confusing as her eyes started to shift around their underground secret hide out. It looked like a children’s club house, there was no mistaking it’s decorum. “Where are your parents? Do they know you play with weapons and swords and terrorize the sailors aboard the Jolly Rodger?” She questioned looking around at all of them before her eyes landed back on Peter.
“The only grown ups in Neverland are Pirates or Indians. Boys who fall out of their prams and are not claimed in seven days are sent here to live with me. We are the lost boys.” Caitlin blinked quite a few times as her mind kept rejecting everything he was saying, this was a game he was playing it had to be.
“Really, this has gone far enough. Where are your parents? I demand to see your father!” She shouted as she tried to struggle free of her binds again. Why did she keep getting tied up like this? All of the boys at once pointed at Peter to let her know that he was the one who the called their father. Peter just smirked as he looked at her.
“You are our Prisoner here, and Captain Hook will have to meet our demands if he ever wants to see his lady again.” Re-sheathing his sword he crossed his arms as he starred at her, “This time he will play by our rules.” The boys all cheered and shouted as one moved forward putting another gag in Caitlin’s mouth so she couldn’t talk anymore. They started to run around the hide out playing games and sword fighting with each other, and others went to go eat. It got very busy very quickly; much like a playground would at recess. Caitlin was having a hard time accepting all of this as her eyes wondered about the cave. She leaned her head back against the chair she’d been tied to as her eyes closed a few moments.
A small boy moved closer to her silently looking her over curiously. Caitlin’s eyes opened looking out over the hollow again her eyes starting to fill with tears. This was something that was simply not done, how on earth did she fall pray to a few dozen boys when she was off shore on a ship. The small boy sat down next to her feet cocking his head as he looked up at her. Caitlin’s eyes wondered over to the one they called Peter Pan as he sat triumphantly in his throne like chair looking out over his ‘subjects’. That small firefly that had attacked her one-day flew in and sat on Peter’s shoulder whispering into his ear and they both laughed loudly.
Caitlin’s attention turned down as she felt a small tap on her knee. The small boy looked up at her with large eyes and smiled sweetly waving at her. That was really strange, she’d not seen one of these boys look at her the way this little one did. One of the boys saw him sitting close to her and shouted at him to get away from her. The little one jumped up and frowned quickly looking back at Caitlin before running away from her.
Her eyes followed after the little one, who was as cute as could be. He had very pale skin that was decorated with freckles that would probley become much less as he grew older, and a mass of red hair. His little eyes were a beautiful green color and his smile lit up his whole face. Caitlin’s eyes wondered after him for a few moments curiously.
A little while later, Peter got up from his chair and headed out of the hollow by himself, even his little firefly friend staying behind. Caitlin sighed wondering how long they were going to keep her this way. It was very uncomfortable and she could only breathe so much as tightly as they had her bound. Peter came back into the hollow looking for Tinkerbell. “Come on Tink! We have to go?” All the boys stopped and looked at Peter as Tinkerbell flew up and looked at him wondering where they were going. “We’re going back to the real world, we’ll be back soon.” Before any of the boys could say anything for protest Peter and Tink took off from the hollow flying into the air.
The boys all looked at each other in shock. “What . . . are we supposed to do with her?” One asked as their eyes all shifted towards Caitlin.
“We’ll just have to keep her tied up until Peter and Tink come back. Hook will never find us here.” They said and all agreed. Caitlin gave a large sigh closing her eyes leaning her head back again. Perhaps this was a dream she would wake up from before long, there must have been something a muck with that apple she’d eaten.
Once they were ashore snow started to fall over the pirates and the temperature started to drop rapidly. The already agitated Captain looked about, as his teeth started to grind. Smee was standing next to him as his eyes were moved upwards. “Pan’s left Neverland again Capt’n . . .” He looked at Hook, “Ye don’t suppose he took your misses with him do ye?”
James eyes darkened as he looked at Smee. He’d never even considered such a possibility until his dim-witted first mate pointed it out. “She is still here. She must be. Caitlin is no longer in the frame of mind to leave this world, she believes her place is here with me regardless.” Hooks eyes shifted upwards millions of thoughts and doubts having run through his mind since he first found her gone. He should have looked to see if her journal was still locked away safely in the bottom drawer of his desk. He silently cursed himself for not checking before they left the ship. What if she had been taken back to the Real World, how would he ever find her again? What would they do to her when she tried to tell them where she’d disappeared to, and the things she saw and things that had happened? No, she couldn’t have left of her own free will. She was to intelligent not to think of these things if her memory had been jogged.
Smee looked at the Captain, “Capt’n we’d best go back to the ship before the water freezes our dinghy’s and we’re not able to get them back to the Jolly Rodger.” It was not something James wanted to hear out loud for he knew it was true. Although he was usually very reckless in his decisions, this time it could not be ignored. They were not dressed appropriately for such cold weather and they would freeze to death before they even got to Caitlin.
“BACK to the boats! We start out again first thing in the morning! I want every man at the ready, at first light. I shall have the entrails of any man who is not out on deck by the time I emerge from my quarters!” He shouted at them before turning and heading back to the beach. Smee silently motioned for all the pirates to follow not wanting to make another noise that might annoy the Captain.
Caitlin had managed to fall asleep once it had gotten quiet in the hallow. All the boys where exhausted from their kidnapping adventure earlier in the day and retired to their beds keeping warm. Caitlin wasn’t any less tired then they, for she’d struggled as long and as hard as she could from the first time they took her captive. While she slept, the temperature dropped rapidly in the den, and her teeth started to chatter as her body tried to curl up to keep itself warm. Of course being unable to from the way her binds held her fast to the hard chair.
A pair of bright green eyes appeared over the table in the middle of the room that the boys sat and dined at during meal times, shifting from left to right. Seeing her asleep and no one else awake watching her, the small boy freckled faced boy that had tried to approach Caitlin earlier slipped from behind his hiding place walking carefully over to the sleeping woman. He carried a large blanket with him holding it with both arms as he tried to stay as quiet as possible. Climbing up next to her he unfolded it and covered her up with it as best as possible, pulling it up to her neck and draping it over her shoulders so she was covered up all the way.
Getting a box, he pulled it over next to her and climbed into her lap so he could get a closer look at her. Curiously reaching up he touched the one stray curl that had escaped her hair while she struggled and hung over her face. He’d never seen hair do that before, most hair including his was strait. His fingers wondered up touching her lips that surrounded the gag that had been mercilessly tied there to keep her quiet. The little boy couldn’t have been more then six years old, fair to young to be away from his mother and living with a band full of orphaned boys. He shifted his weight and sat down in her lap leaning against her hoping to help keep her warm while she slept. His little eyes fluttered a few times, until he too fell asleep with the rest of the hollows occupants.
Aurora slowly snuck into the hidden hideout of the lost boys and looked around, seeing Caitlin tied up tight and gagged, and finding that all the others where asleep. Fluttering around she looked at each of the boys, trying to figure out which of them were left in charge while Peter was gone. She bit her lip and huffed, pausing looking around. How on earth was her plan going to work if she couldn’t find which one led the others? Either way if a bunch of the boys wanted to do away with the lady, then the others would surely listen to them. Quickly she fluttered around to the oldest and largest boys whispering into their ears and blowing black dust over them.
Finally feeling her work was done she flew up to the middle of the den and looked about one more time. She felt as if she was missing something but wasn’t sure what it was. Her little mind had to many desperate thoughts to try and sort out. Shaking her head to push the feeling aside, she flew out of the hollow and headed back to the Jolly Rodger, wanting to see her beloved having been away from him for a few hours.
James was not sleeping even though the rest of the ship and perhaps all of Neverland had fallen into blissful slumber. Having been taken from the ship, willingly or not she was still not here. AGAIN. Circumstances kept making sure that they never landed in bed at the same time, and still the extremely large double bed in the cabin had not been slept in properly. What if Pan had taken her back to the real world and intended to leave her there. She would forget everything, she would forget about Neverland, the Jolly Rodger and James. Just as she’d forgotten her life in the real world. It was an endless nightmare that held them.
If she was still in Neverland, those boys might have left her out in the cold where she could freeze to death. She might have escaped and tried to wonder back towards the beach they often landed on near the ship trying to get back on her own and fallen pray to the other dangers on the island. She might have even slipped and fell and hurt herself to badly to walk when it started to snow and she was laying somewhere helpless. James was sure he would go mad until she was in his sight again.
He screamed, “BLAST THIS CURSED PLACE, and that SPAWN OF HELL PAN!!!” Picking up one of the bottles from his table he threw it hard across the room and it shattered against the wall. Turning he slammed his hook onto one of the tables throwing the entire contents off of it and onto the floor. He kicked a chair out of the way before picking it up and throwing it across the room trying to take out his frustrations and anger in any way he could. Walking over to the desk he started to throw things again, reaching for the papers on the desk preparing to throw those as well he stopped. Caitlin’s handwriting adorned them and caught his eyes.
It pulled him out of his worry for a few moments and he moved around to sit down at his desk, lighting a candle and pulling it close so he could read her script. Perhaps it was wrong to continually invade her privacy, but he could not stop himself. She wrote incredibly well, and always told of what was going on in her heart and in her mind. It made it slightly easier for him to understand certain aspects of her, it was clear that it was impossible for him to understand all of her. She continually surprised him each day.
“ I don’t know exactly why I feel like I’ve been neglecting sitting down each day and writing out my thoughts and feelings since my betrothed claimed me and fetched me to his side. Yet here I am, giving in to that nagging feeling so that perhaps it will go away and I will once more feel normal. I’ve lost memories about my past that my dear Captain Hook is my only link to.”
Hook winced slightly upon reading that passage. Perhaps she trusted him more then it seemed she did. Anything he told her of her past she believed, it was an advantage he had with her that she did not have with him. He continued turning the page, going to the next;
“For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure my husband out to the best of my abilities. His body is adorned with many scars that tell the story of his many exploits as a pirate Captain, including one that particularly pulls on my heartstrings each time my eyes fall upon his Iron Hook, replacing the hand that was stolen from him so many years ago.”
He sighed closing his eyes halting his reading a few moments. He had no idea it bothered her that much. The times that she had undressed him and removed his harness that held it in place, it didn’t seem as if it turned her stomach or horrified her. Her eyes and touches where extremely tender to the gruesome scar that had been left behind to shore where his hand once rested. He had to continue, reading her words it seemed as if she was here with him instead of only god himself knew where.
“It’s not it’s absence nor the harness that holds his Iron appendage in place that ties my heart in knots each time I gaze at it. It was the circumstances under which it was stolen from him. I’ve met the one responsible for dismembering my husband a few times. An ignorant young boy who finds it humorous at what he has done, and laughs as he tells the story fancying himself for being some great hero. The last time I saw this young monster, I was locked away down below in the brig just a few days after my wedding. I was so angered when I heard the tale from his own lips, I demanded that he leave the ship and never return or address me again. I couldn’t stand to even look at him.”
Hook paused after he read this passage. It was a bit of the shock for him that she had met that boy more then once and she’d said nothing to him about it. Why on earth would she hide such a fact from him as if she was trying to keep it a secret. However, it was completely clear in the words that she’d written that there was no love lost between her and the boy. “Foolish boy, the way her heart tends to be towards all living creatures you must have really upset her for her to think so ill of you.” He said with a chuckle wondering how Pan reacted to having someone dislike him and not praise him for his stories of adventure. Hook turned the page again and continued to read. “Good lord Caitlin, you certainly acquired the skill of a quill and pot of ink quickly. “
“I’m still trying to adjust to life here, and to be the wife I should be for the Captain. Last night he came to me and at first I was afraid and nervous. But after we talked and he said a few words to me, it seemed as if I couldn’t keep my hands off him. I wanted to hold him close and feel the warmth of his body against mine, and the caress of his lips. I can’t entirely be sure of it, but I feel as if I’ve never met anyone like him before in my lifetime. There are sometimes I watch him when he doesn’t know I’m looking and I can see an inner struggle going on, as if he holds so many demons that torture and plague his soul, I am but a small comfort if any. I can’t explain it, but I want to do whatever I can to ease his pain. Even though sometimes I am afraid of him for the raging temper he has, and he seems like a whole different person. But there are other times when he’s so gentle, caring, and concerned about me.”
“One of the times I was afraid was the other night when he came down to the brig, very drunk and very violent. He tore my dress and said he intended to give me a wound similar to the one he’d suffered to remind me never to do such a thing again. He felt as if I was lying to him about not remembering injuring him with the cut across his chest and attacking him or starting the fight. He brought his knuckles across my face so hard I felt as if my eye was going to pop out of my face at the force of the blow. The sting in my cheek was nothing compared to the one in my heart. He had every right to be angry I suppose, and I don’t hold it against him, but I am afraid of the next time he grows angry at me and decides to strike me again.”
James just sat there reading over that passage twice again. He couldn’t believe that he had done such things to her. He couldn’t understand why she lied to him and said that he didn’t cause the mark on her cheek. Was she trying to protect him so he did not know the monster he’d become and the terrible things he’d done to her, or was she so hurt by it she didn’t want to recall it or talk about it. Or even worse, was she afraid of him for it. Whatever the reason, seeing the words written down of what he’d done to her, he felt more ashamed then had ever before in his entire existence.
“My father, I think cared about me. I don’t think he would have given me to James if he thought I was in any sort of danger, or thought I wouldn’t be safe. I think he would have found out everything he could before agreeing to betroth me to a man until I was the proper age . . .”
The words stopped there, as she must have intended to come back to it and write more. Otherwise he was sure she would have put it away. With the things she’d written, it was obvious that it wasn’t intended for him to see. He put them back in order and put them away so no one else would stumble across them and invade her privacy. Sitting back in his chair he found that her words she’d written only this morning, brought some comfort to him. Perhaps she didn’t love him yet, but she did care for him greatly. Caitlin was trying her best to act as she should, and he gave her credit for that. “She is certainly my shining light in an ocean of darkness and despair.” He closed his eyes leaning back against his chair, the thought of her leaving the ship willingly was put to rest. She had been kidnapped.
