Aurora returned to the ship feeling as if her little wings would fall off from the freezing cold. Wiggling her way back into the Captain’s cabin she flew over to the fire place, sitting in front of it a moment trying to get warm and defrost her fairy frame. Turning around slowly trying to get all angles of her body on every side, her eyes caught a glimpse of James, slumped over his desk, wearing only his white under shirt, having removed his jacket and vest. Pausing a moment, her curiosity captured, she flew up to his desk landing softly on the edge. She moved silently creeping ever closer to the slumbering James Hook.
Her small heart jumped in her chest as she could feel his warm breath moving across the desk and hitting against her freezing cold legs. Aurora couldn’t suppress the small giggle of pleasure at the feel of it. She loved being able to get this close to him when he slept. Something she couldn’t do anymore since he and Caitlin had started spending most of their nights together. Giving a soft sigh, she wished deep inside that she could be much bigger. That way her small size wouldn’t turn his eye away from her so quickly. Her wings stopped fluttering a dropped a bit knowing that she could never be, she turned and started to walk back to the edge of the desk.
However, she found herself suddenly swept up by a hand and held tight. Hook’s hand had sprung up and captured the little fairy, holding her securely so she couldn’t escape his grasp. James eyes opened and he sat up slowly brining the fairy before his eyes on his desk. He looked down at her with no expression on his face. It was obvious that he had not been asleep. It seemed as if he had almost been waiting for her.
Aurora’s eyes grew wide growing frightened as she started trying to struggle free. However she soon found out that all her attempts where completely futile. She could bite his hand but she didn’t want to harm him. The displeased look on Hooks face made her shiver even more with fear. “Perhaps,” he began, “It would have been prudent, to first clean your feet from the spilled ink, before walking across my desk.” Turning her suddenly, he showed her were she’d left footprints across his desk earlier when she watched the lost boys capture Caitlin. Immediately after she witnessed this act, she decided to follow after them and ran through the ink without thinking to make it to the doors before they closed her in.
Aurora’s little wings stopped flitting as she saw the telltale sign of her having been there. The agitated captain turned the small fairy back to face him. “My, my, my Miss Sun how you have changed. Not the same bit of fluff I took with me into the real world on my venture to find my bride as a passage back to Neverland.” His eyes narrowed and he squeezed the small fairy slightly. She gasped and squeaked loudly trying to breathe. “It would appear upon seeing you now, I have finally revealed the secret of the purple glow that made its way through my cabin, and over my bed whilst I slept during the dark hours of the night.”
James’ teeth started to grind as he felt very annoyed about seeing her here again after he had specifically warned her, “I told you to leave my ship before I changed my mind about releasing you, rather then killing you. Did you think I was just speaking to hear myself speak you foolish little dragonfly?” He slammed his Hook down into the wood of the desk as his temper flared. Aurora shook her head quickly in response to his question. Hook’s cold icy stare returned to his small captive, “What have you been up to these past few weeks while freely roaming my ship, and hiding in the shadows?” He demanded to know.
Aurora raised her hands in a surrendering manner and shook her head as if to say she’d not been up to anything. James eyes narrowed again as he growled loudly at her, “It is strange Miss Sun, for some reason I am disinclined to believe you. Perhaps because I know the nature of your kind is very cunning and deceitful creatures.” His temper started to flare as he found himself growing uncontrollably angry with her again. She closed her eyes and shivered in his grasp, covering her face with her hands. James took a deep calming breath, before looking at her once more. “Now Miss Sun, I do believe that what you have, is the knowledge of a certain location where something very precious that belongs to me is being held. If you want to survive to see the light of another day, I suggest you resolve yourself to guiding me there upon the sunrise.”
Aurora quickly nodded and started to make signs with her hands, talking as fast as she could. James watched her as she explained she was to small to help his woman when those awful mean boys bored the ship and attacked her. All she could do was follow after them to see where they where taking her. Once they settled in one place and turned in for the night and she was sure his woman would be safe until morning, she flew back to the Jolly Rodger to tell him where she’d been stolen away to. James found it rather a suspicious story, but if she truly knew where Caitlin was, he could find his wife much faster then his entire crew slowly combing over the very large island.
Hook looked at her for a moment, “Is that so. Really. Quite the tale of heroism my dear. One must wonder why you have decided to take it upon yourself, to watch over my bride. As well as wonder how long you have done so.” Standing up, he walked across the room and opened a glass lantern, shoving her inside, and closing the latch with his Hook locking her in so she couldn’t escape or get away. Leaning down next to the glass Hook starred at her, “If I find you have been involved with other strange occurrences these past few weeks, your life will expire in a matter of moments, in the most gruesome and painful why I can devise.” Moving his hook to smack against the glass, it made a nose so loud the small prisoner covered her ears and cried out.
James turned and walked away, “We start out at first light, if you intend to get any rest I suggest you do so now.” Moving to the candles he blew them out as the room went dark, the only light that could be seen was Aurora’s purple glow that cast eerie dark shadows over the entire Cabin. Slowly moving to the door of her glass prison she placed her hands on the glass peering through it towards his bed as he laid down to try and get some rest. Her small wings fluttered a few times, as it felt like it did back in the real world when he held her captive. Her little mouth smiled lightly as at least he had seen and spoken to her once more, and he had not done so since the three had returned to Neverland. Turning she walked to the little candle inside and sat on it having a lot to think about and a plan to devise before morning came. What was she to do?
Caitlin woke up suddenly to the sound of pans or plates being thrown around. It was a rude awakening to someone who was already suffering from an unbearable headache. She opened her eyes wide trying to clear her sight, not having slept very well. “Well I’m in charge and I say what is to be done with her!!” She heard a voice say.
“What good is she, she’s just a lousy old pirate. Why would Peter care what we did with her?” Wow, that didn’t sound good she quickly opened her eyes seeing a bunch of the boys gathered around arguing.
“This is Peter’s game, if we let her die then Hook won’t come after us. There wouldn’t be a reason to. We can’t continue in the game without Peter here!” One of the largest boys brandished his sword pointing it at the leader, and with in an instant everyone else’s swords where drawn as well.
“WE say we get rid of her now! If Peter has a problem with it, there won’t be anything he can do. She’ll already be dead when he gets back!” Caitlin blinked her eyes, was she still asleep? Where they talking about actually KILLING her? Two of the boys started clashing their swords together in an argument, it seemed as if Caitlin’s fate was going to be decided by the victor of the spar.
Caitlin thought she heard something behind her but wasn’t sure, she felt one of her binds snap enough that she could look and see. The small red haired, freckle faced boy raised his finger up to his lips in a request that she stayed quiet. He turned his attention back to her binds and was using a small dagger to saw her ropes free. Caitlin quickly turned looking back towards the fight. Seeing the manner in which these boys seemed to live, she realized if this little one got caught he would be in a great deal of trouble.
There was no desire in her heart to fight with these children, any of them. But what was she going to do if they were just going to kill her if she didn’t defend herself? Shaking her head and closing her eyes she wondered where on earth James could have been, and how he was ever going to find her. The last of her binds where severed and she stood up slowly looking towards the boy, he quickly reached up taking her hand pulling her to follow him which she did silently without question.
The boys continued to fight until the largest one who had started the fight forced his opponent down onto the floor holding the blade to his throat. “I am the victor, and I say we. . . KILL THE LADY!!!” He shouted, as half of the boys cheered. It was very unusual behavior from the band of lost boys; dark magic was at work here, the same dark magic that had led Caitlin to the black castle. They all cheered and he stood before them, “Well how shall we do it?” Quite a few suggestions where thrown out.
“We should boil her!!”
“No lets leave her out in the snow!”
“Lets just cut her to ribbons!”
“Feed her to the croc!!”
“Hang her from the tree limbs!!”
The main boy smiled with glee as he shouted out, “I know. . .how about we do ALL OF THEM!!!” Raising his sword before all the boys’ eyes to see. They all gave a cheer and shout of approval as they turned to retrieve their play toy. However all they saw was an empty chair, and quite a few cut ropes strung about. They all looked around at each other quickly, “She’s escaped!! After her! Now we can kill her, Peter said we could if she tries to escape!!!” Instantly the boys flooded out of the group and got dressed and clothed in warmer outfits before heading out into the snow-covered forest.
Caitlin had been fully dressed when they had invaded the ship and captured her, so she was a bit warmer then most would be. Reaching up with her free hand she removed the gag that had been tied in her mouth taking a deep free breath. Feeling as if she would faint from the flood of air that entered her lungs. The little one was moving as fast as his little feet could carry him, and she continued to follow without question.
Hook stood on shore as they walked on the ice to the island. Each man checked his weapons and made sure they were loaded and ready to use. “I want my wife unharmed! If there is any opposition . . . exterminate it!” He shouted out. Reaching into his pocket he tugged a small cord as Aurora was pulled from his pocket. He had fashioned a sort of collar that fitted around her neck and a leash with the cord. Looking at her narrowing his eyes, “Six little words will spell your doom if Caitlin is not back on my ship by sun down. Do you understand you pitifully small and puny creature?” He hissed at her. She nodded a little looking up at him. “Well, lead us to her.”
Aurora nodded again and turned pointing them down a path. Hook motioned for the men to follow and they started off in their search. Hook’s old exterior was returning. His ruthless and cruel personality was coming back with his suspicion of Aurora and the feeling that something that belonged to him was stolen from out of his very cabin. It was an unspeakably intolerable violation and someone would pay dearly. Aurora flitted forward before moving back to his pocket to keep warm. Hook allowed her to do so, for she was no use as a guide if she froze to death. Aurora smiled happily as she snuggled down tight in his pocket feeling his warmth and the feel of his heartbeat through his vest. Even the collar couldn’t dampen her spirits being so close to him.
Hooks thoughts where dark and cold. At the moment he couldn’t think about Caitlin and worry about her well-being and safety. All he could think about was revenging the invasion of his ship. Currently he thought of Caitlin as a mere possession and nothing more. He would take her back, and punish the ones who stole her away, so they would learn quickly never to attempt such a feat again.
Meanwhile, Caitlin followed the little boy for what seemed like an eternity, only God himself knew how far away from the hollow they had traveled, for it felt like miles in the cold. Finally they came to a stop before a large wall that looked like it was made of complete shrubbery. Blinking a little she looked at the little boy. He smiled up at her and turned finding a place hidden by a large rock to crawl through. Looking around, Caitlin was finding herself having to trust yet another person about crawling into a dark damp whole. The little one crawled back out and motioned for her to follow him quickly. Shaking her head she moved to the small entrance and got down on her hands and knees following him.
It was at least a ten-foot tunnel before there was a space to stand in. Caitlin couldn’t see very well as it was dark and there was nearly no light at all. The little one struck a match and lit a candle, which lit up the room considerably more then before. She looked about, as it seemed they were in a small house almost. Her eyes turned to the little one who smiled at her quietly. He was so young and so small, how did he know how to help her escape and take her to some place like this? It was very strange to her indeed. As silent as ever he walked over taking her hand, pulling her towards a small pallet with blankets and pulled her wanting her to sit down.
Caitlin was learning quickly to hear him with her eyes rather then his words, which so far there had been none of. She gathered her skirts and sat down on the pallet, and he covered her with a blanket wanting her to stay warm. Caitlin couldn’t stand this anymore, he was so sweet and caring towards her where as it seemed the rest of the band of lost boys where howling for her blood. “Little one, why do you help me? Won’t you get in trouble with the other boys?” She asked quietly, finding herself suddenly very concerned for his safety. The little one moved to sit in her lap and hug her tightly resting his head against her chest much in the same fashion he did the night before while she slept. Caitlin was both shocked and surprised, she was hardly expecting this.
Looking down at the small one she couldn’t help it, she wrapped her arms around him holding him close not wanting him to thing her ungrateful. She frowned finding his skin very cold, almost as cold as ice. Reaching for another blanket that was there she wrapped it around him holding him close rubbing his arms and back trying to warm him up. He smiled even brighter at this and closed his eyes cuddling against her even more. This was strange to say the least; Caitlin couldn’t understand why he had become so attached to her. Leaning back against the wall behind the pallet she held him close and rocked him on her lap. She felt as if she wanted to protect him from everything and keep him as warm as could be.
Coming to a fork in the road, the irritated Captain flicked his pocket rousting his guide from her hiding place. Aurora quickly flew out rubbing her little bottom where he had flicked her looking into his eyes. “I would very much appreciate it, if you would pay attention whilst we wonder through a frozen tundra.” She nodded quickly turning and looking at the fork. Reaching up she pointed him down another path. Hook looked down it a moment before looking at her. Something was rather fishy with her directions. “I see. You think we should go down that path do you.” She smiled innocently and nodded. “Really.” Reaching up with the tip of his Hook he pressed the tip into her small belly. “Would you like to reconsider your suggestion?”
She frowned looking sad that he seemed to have figured out her plan already. Her little head hung low as she sighed pointing towards the other path. Hook looked at her before tugging on her cord pulling her closer, “Do not try that again. I do not have patients for a wild goose chase this day. If you would like to find your way into the dark void of oblivion, by all means attempt to keep us walking around in circles.” Aurora shook her little head and crawled back into his pocket, slipping into the warmth curling up and rubbing her cold legs and arms.
Hook drew his pistol and cocked it motioning for the men to follow quietly. He had a feeling they were getting close. After the last time their secret den was discovered by the pirate crew, the lost boys moved the location and tried to make it even more inaccessible. Of course it was the first place that the clever Captain looked for Pan on his return to his main task and destiny, not expecting to find them there. It would have been a great disappointment to him if his great and worthy opponent did not have the foresight and wisdom to move his hide out.
Caitlin had fallen asleep while holding the small boy, who had managed to drift off into a gentle slumber as well. But she awoke suddenly when she heard a large shout that sounded very close to the cave. The little one jumped up wiggling out of the blanket. Caitlin started to get up as well but he stopped her holding his finger to his lips wanting her to be quiet. He grabbed a bush that was in the cave and hurried towards the entrance, stuffing it behind him to block the inner entrance to the tunnel. Once he was outside the hidden cave, he blocked that hole as well with several bushes then threw several handfuls of snow on them to make them look like they had always been there.
Hurrying off he ran into a group of lost boys. “Have you seen her Danny?” He shook his head turning and looking around as if he had been searching for her. They turned and looked around as well. “COME ON, we’ll go this way. She couldn’t have gotten far, Peter says that she’s only been on the island once!” They all hurried off and the little red head started to follow them, but quickly dropped back away from the group coming to a stop and waiting until they were gone. Turning around he ran in the opposite direction, heading back to the main lost boys hide out.
Caitlin stood up after a little while going back to the tunnel and tried to look through the bush. What of those insane children found out he was helping her? What would they do to the kind hearted little one? She sighed loudly in frustration finding herself growing very worried about him. Walking over she picked up one of the blankets and wrapped it around her. Even though she was fully dressed, it was not winter clothing she wore. She began to pace waiting to see the little freckle faced one to appear at the tunnel again. “Oh James, what a strange place we live in where vigilantly boys run around free without their parents and kidnap people right out of their homes.” Her heart sank as she remembered suddenly, “James.” Moving back to the pallet she sat down nervously hoping he was alright. Wondering if he even knew of her disappearance or if they made it back to the ship before winter fell.
Her eyes narrowed a moment. How on earth did winter fall so quickly? She was out on deck only yesterday afternoon. The sun was shining bright and here wasn’t a cloud in the sky to be seen. How in the world did all that snow get on the ground? It felt as warm as August. Rubbing her eyes she found herself becoming more and more confused as she tried to process several things that didn’t make sense to her. She knew they were not only strange, but impossible.
Aurora poked her head out of James pocket and saw the obscured entrance to the lost boys Hallow. Her eyes shifted upwards at her Captain. She had longed to be exactly where she was and she was afraid if she took him into that Hollow, it would come to an end already. Even with the humiliating collar and leash he’d fashioned for her, she would happily wear it if he would just let her stay by his side.
