Chapter 24 ~ Old Memories

"So why are you with Bianca again?"

We had made it back to Alec's office and we were sitting in the leather chairs, The view of the city lay behind him as the sun lay in its mid afternoon arch. I sat across from him as I rested my left ankle upon my right knee. The sound of the air conditioner filled the silence as I contemplated an 'answer'.

"Well she said she was doing it for my own safety, being the legalized vampire executioner of california will bring alot of enemies to your door step."

Alec nodded, he knew that what I did was probably the most dangerous job out there. I had my reasons, vengence for the family members I lost that night long ago had fueled me in the beginning. Then slowly as the years went by I learned that it wouldn't bring them back, nothing would. I did this job to stop the pain that others would feel, to have the people that you cared for taken away from you in that manner was something that I wanted to stop. I had a vendetta against all vampires, though once friends and family members had been inflicted with vampirism and I saw that they were still the same. I began to doubt my reasons, only time would tell.
Alec leaned forward slightly, I wondered what he was about to say. Though apart of me wanted him to just keep to his own damn business. Thats the egotistical part of me showing...again.

"Do you still have feelings for her?"

Yeah he should have stuck to his own damned business.
"I guess... but it's in that friendship type of way"

I guess my voice wasn't that believable as he was grinning at me. I really didn't want to hear what he was going to say next.

"You still got the hots for her still... oh boy that'll be interesting."

"Shut up..." it's not true, I think. Dammit I couldn't think of a good logical excuse to deny that, I guess I did. It just felt weird to actually like a person that I would hunt down and kill without mercy if it ever came down to it. Even though she was still my best friend and we did date for awhile in college, though that was when she was still human. To many questions and not enough time, my morality was at the root of all this nonsense.

"Yeah whatever..."

I sat back as I crossed my arms, I glanced over at the clock on the wall and read four fifty five. Alec was grinning as he knew the truth, dammit it wasn't fair. I don't know why it just wasn't.

"Yeah live in your denial..."

"Bite me"

Alec laughed "No, that'll be her job..." I was just entertaining everyone today wasn't I?
I stood up slowly as I stretched, I could see more of the scenery of San Francisco from where I stood. It might have been only on the second floor but the view was still great, you just had to remove all the honking taxi's and hustling of people and it would look quite tranquil, yep.

"I need to get back to the station, knowing my luck Bruce will probably yell at me for being late... when I'm early."

Alec shook his head and sighed. "Yeah he always did do that... oh yeah don't forget your new toy and the registration papers."

"Like I would forget those."

He handed me the black bag which held the Teknys, the instruction manual and the registration papers that would make it legal for me to carry such a weapon. Alec had gotten me a spare gun bag before we headed up to his office. Personally I would have forgotten about the bag and left the building holding my new toy, that probably wouldn't have gone well with the general public.
