Eric smiled brightly at me as if he’d just said something exhilarating to me. And not that my entire family would be slaughtered if I blew the whistle. “Well we have a big afternoon ahead of us,” he said happily.
“First we’re going shopping at Alcide’s favorite store and then it’s off to Disney World,” he continued. I could feel Anton trying not to look in my direction. He was rolling a joint and his hands had the faintest tremble to them. “That place is fucking gay,” Anton said, toking his joint. Alcide looked offended for a second. “I like it, you know you’re only going with us because Sookie insisted,” he countered with a frown. Anton gave me a brief oddly strained look. Yet he said nothing. He knew; he knew that if he revealed his feelings for me that Eric would kill him, I wondered briefly if it would be Alcide that did the deed. “Oh by the way,” he didn’t look at me. “I’m having a treadmill and elliptical delivered here next week,” he acted as if he was saying it to them but he was really telling me. They said nothing to that and Eric looked to me. “Go pee and we’ll leave,” like I was a little kid about to go on a road trip. I glanced at myself and felt strangely self-conscious, it was the first time I had been out in the world since becoming a cum dumpster and did it show? I peered at myself and only saw the long shadows under my big pale eyes, shrugging I left before they could rip me out of the bathroom. I saw that there were four cars in the driveway. Well you couldn’t really call it a driveway it was more like a parking lot in the middle of nowhere. One was a tan Lexus, one was a red corvette and the other two were ordinary. The one that made my blood run cold was a black van. I stopped walking and just stared at it. “Yes that’s the one I took you in,” Eric said into my ear. We got into the Lexus SUV, with Alcide driving and Eric in the front seat and me and Anton in the back. We drove into New Orleans. “I’ve missed you,” Anton said to me in sign language and I signed back. “How do you know how to do this?” He moved his hands. “I took a class,” I knew how to do it because my brother Mathew was deaf. What I didn’t know was how he knew that I would understand it. The car was quiet on the road, the expensive tires making nearly no sound as they ate up the miles. Slowly houses started appearing as we got to highway. My breath caught in my throat as I saw the skyline for New Orleans. My whole body tensed at the thought of escaping, maybe I could flag down a cop and he could save me and my family before something could happen to them. In that spook way that Eric has; his eyes met mine in the rearview mirror. “I’m due to call Miguel,” he said quietly. “Here’s how it works, if I don’t call him every five hours your family will die, do you know why we arranged it that way?” I half nodded. His smile cut me to ribbons. “Because if we get caught by the cops I don’t want you to have a family to return to, we’re your family now,” he turned in his seat and patted my knee. “Now who’s up for McDonald’s?” he said brightly. We pulled into one and Eric asked me and Anton what we wanted. I said I wanted the fish sandwich. Anton ordered nothing but a soda. Alcide ordered nothing but iced tea, of course with him being such a foodie, McDonald’s was probably beneath him. Eric ordered a Big Mac. Alcide pulled into a parking space and we ate. The little crappy sandwich made me feel almost normal. Eric turned on the news channel and I listened intently for news about me. Just as the announcer said my name the car went quiet as he turned it off. I bundled up the wrapping paper and put it into the bag and we drove off. I drank the Coke and the sugar of it made me happy. I was just another name now, another lost girl, someone that people probably thought was a runaway. “Well somebody’s famous,” Alcide said lazily with his grass green eyes meeting mine in the rearview mirror. I had no reply but felt a bitter expression cover my face. Anton signed “I’m sorry” and I just nodded back. “I feel like killing someone,” Anton said so nonchalantly that I thought I had misheard him. Eric glanced back. “Who this time?” Anton shrugged. “It doesn’t matter that much who,” he muttered. “Maybe a bum or a hooker?” The blood drained from my face and I recalled that Anton was evil, like them. I signed frantically “Don’t.” He ignored me. Eric laughed a little “Fine we’ll pick one up tonight on our way,” he sounded like an indulgent parent. I wanted to crawl away from these men. Anton ran his hands through his hair and sighed and looked over at me. “It’s what I need to do sometimes,” he signed. I didn’t move my hands and looked away. We parked outside of an odd looking boutique. There was a car in front of it that had an assortment of things glued to it, every available space had action figure and burned Barbie dolls nestled into roller skates and many other things that I won’t bother listing, needless to say it was strange. The three male models surrounded me as we entered. Inside was equally weird. It was a mixture of homemade things and antiques. The clothing was beautiful if strange. Alcide picked out a gray lace dress that was the exact shade of my eyes and when I came out in in it he looked sad but turned on. It had a full skirt with several layers that belled around my tiny waist. It made me feel delicate and pretty which is something that I hadn’t felt in weeks. The three guys sighed and Anton said “I’ll buy that for her, we need to pick out some bra and panties too.” We wandered around the store after I changed back into my baggy clothes. Alcide picked out a black silk camisole and a gauzy skirt to go with it. They approved and I saw Anton holding a lacy bra and panties to match. Anton purchased everything along with a necklace that he picked out. And since after a shower one time they had forgotten to put my collar back on my neck was bare when he put it on. It was a sliver chain with a tiny clock on it, it made a tinny little sound as it ticked away the moments. The irony of the gift wasn’t lost on me. A clock to count down the hours and days left to me. I was still angry at Anton for reminding me of his true nature so I didn’t thank him. We stopped at a Wendy’s and Eric went into the stall with me to make sure I didn’t try anything. His eyes were glacial as he watched me put on the camisole and the gauzy skirt. We got back into the car and Anton was arguing with his cousin. They stopped abruptly as we entered. “Problem?” Eric asked. They both shook their heads at the same time. The blonde turned on music and we drove into the ghetto. “Stop here,” Anton said and I watched as black man approached. “Five fifty rocks,” he said handing him a roll of money. This is probably what they’d been arguing about I thought as I saw Alcide frowning furiously. “Well should we get the hooker here or in Florida?” Eric asked as we left the area and Anton looked up from his pipe. “It doesn’t matter, either way is fine,” he toked the crack and it’s acid like odor assaulted my nose. He passed it to me and Alcide slammed on the breaks near some abandoned houses. “You want to rot your fucking brain with that shit fine, but you’re not getting her hooked on that,” his voice was a snarl. Anton looked vaguely shocked and he glanced my way and then nodded. “You’re right,” he said quietly. “Apologize to her,” he commanded my friend. “Sorry Sookie,” Anton mumbled. It was so hilarious that I laughed out loud. “Really Alcide? That’s what you’re going to have someone apologize for? How about saying you’re sorry for raping me while he watched?” Alcide looked amused. “Because I’m not sorry about that, that was fun,” but I had a feeling that he was both lying and telling the truth at the same time. He put the car back into drive and we left that beautiful rotted city behind us. I fell asleep and when I woke up there was a ragged looking whore next to me. She had a really annoying voice, scratchy from cigarettes and whatever else she smoked. “Why the hell are three hot grown men like you going to Disney World?” Anton smirked and his hand wandered over to the woman’s thigh and he caressed it. “Can I have a cigarette?” he asked silkily. I had never seen him smoke before. She scowled “You been bumming them off me for the last hour,” she muttered. I noticed that her thin lips were painted with a repulsive shade of hot pink. He was using her, just like he told me he liked to do with those that he didn’t like. “Oh look the little princess is awake,” she said as I opened my eyes. Her face took on an ugly sneer and Anton slapped the hooker lightly with his bummed smoke hanging from his mouth. “That’s our girl,” he said softly. “Give me some more crack,” he commanded, even though I knew that there was almost no way he’d smoked all the shit he’d bought already. “Look you may be fine but I worked hard for this shit,” she said frowning but still she reached into her purse and gave it to him. That was something that I was to find in my time of association with Anton, he could get anyone to give him everything. Anton took a small rock from her and packed the copper stuffed pipe and hit it hard. He blew it in her face. “So is she like your daughter?” Alcide smiled evilly from the driver’s side. “Do we honestly look like were old enough to have a daughter her age?” The woman shrugged and I felt bad when I observed that her red hair was dyed and it had the look of cotton candy around her aged face. Eric flipped on the IPOD and I just knew he was getting annoyed with the woman. It was Rolling in The Deep by Adele, it had come out the week before I was taken. “Hey are you OK?” she asked after burning a rock. Eric’s eyes nailed me. I nodded. “Yeah I’m fine,” I assured her. She patted my shoulder with something like a lost decayed sense of kindness. “I got a girl your age you know,” she said quietly. “Shut up,” Anton said lazily. He snapped his fingers. “Another, please,” and I watched unbelievably as she gave him another rock. So they got high and the road was a long dark ribbon in the dark. We came to a shitty hotel in the middle of Florida. The woman had finally shut up because Eric had turned around in his seat and smashed her mouth closed with his massive hands. “Shut the fuck up,” he’d snarled. She looked scared for the first time and when the car slowed I heard the locks click down. We got a room with double beds. Smoking. Anton and his beautiful cousin who might be in love with him strolled inside with Eric and the hooker and me coming behind them. Her name was Darla I had discovered. “Look if you want kink, that’s extra,” she muttered as she saw the door close behind her. Anton lounged in one of the chairs around the little table and smiled at her. “Darla welcome to the dark side,” he purred. He looked so glorious at that moment with his dark slightly curly hair and pale blue eyes and his beautiful mouth that had kissed mine so gently, it took me a moment to understand why he looked so different but the same; it was because he was truly being his full self, his full evil made him glow. Eric took a vial from his black leather jacket and I saw white powder inside it. “You’re too ugly to fuck,” he said and then flashed her a charming smile when she started crying. “Then why am I here?” The three were quiet for a minute. “You’re here to die,” Anton said softly. His eyes went to my face and he searched it, there was something in them that was asking me to understand. HI girls! Sophi there is so much gratitude for your reviews its mind boggling.
