Alex smiled as Michele and Bonnie came into view. Jesse strained at his leash, barking. Alex shook his head. The beast was as crazy as his owner... Who he hadn't seen this morning. He inwardly shrugged. She was probably still asleep.
Michele grinned, pushing her hair back. "Hey!"
"Hey!" Alex's smile widened, and he brushed his lips over Michele's when he reached her. "How're you?"
Jesse licked at Bonnie's face, tail wagging happily. His Mistress was gone, yes... But she'd be back, probably.
She blushed slightly, biting her lip. "I'm... good. You?"
Bonnie yipped, tilting her head at Jesse.
"I'm good." He stepped back slightly.
Jesse yipped back.
Bonnie sniffed the other dog, circling as Michele shrugged. "So..."
"Do you want to be the one to tell Aahz that Bonnie is pregnant?" Jesse watched as Bonnie settled herself on the ground.
"Well... I can." Michele glanced at the dogs. "They're pregnant for like 56 days, right?"
Bonnie wagged her tail, closing her eyes.
"I think so." Alex watched Michele's face as she studied the dogs. She really was beautiful...
Jesse lay down next to Bonnie, resting his head on her shoulders.
Michele smiled at Alex as Bonnie snored. "Ah... the snoring..."
Alex smiled back, "My sister used to snore."
"Happily, I'm snore free. I think." Smiling, Michele shrugged. Maybe he could tell her.
"Maybe I'll be able to tell you one day." He shrugged back, watching Jesse blink up at them.
Michele blushed. "Were you reading my mind, Alex?"
"No?" Alex blinked.
"I was... thinking that."
"That's a little odd..." He shrugged again.
She blinked. What? It was odd she was thinking that? “Oh." She squatted, scratching at the dogs’ ears.
He crouched next to her, brow furrowing slightly, "So... what do you want to do today?"
Michele shrugged. "It's up to you."
"I didn't make up any plans or anything." Hm... He should do that...
"Ah." She scratched Bonnie's ears, and the dog, pressed against her hand. "We can walk... get coffee... I don't know."
"Have you eaten yet?"
"Not really."
"Okay." He smiled, "I'll take you to breakfast."
Michele blinked. "Alright. I'll pay."
Alex frowned slightly, "Why don't we split the cost?"
"Because... you've been paying for everything."
"So?"
"So..." She sighed. "I want to buy you something, alright?"
"Alright." He shook his head, smiling slightly. Wow. She was stubborn...
She furrowed her brow. "What? What's funny?"
"You're just stubborn, and I hadn't realized that."
"I'm not stubborn." She blinked. "Am I?"
"As far as I can tell, only a little." He reached forward, brushing a bit of hair behind her ear.
She shivered. "Oh."
Bonnie yipped, standing.
Alex straightened, offering her a hand up as Jesse groaned, getting to his feet slowly.
Michele accepted the help, wrapping Bonnie's leash around her wrist again. "Where should we eat?"
"Pat's Breakfast and Bakery." He smiled, renewing his grip on Jesse's leash and threading his fingers through Michele's.
"I've never been there." She furrowed her brow. "Random question."
"Random answer."
She smiled. "Are you left handed or right?"
"Right." He shot her a quizzical look as they started moving, "Why?"
"Just random. I'm left handed."
He smiled slightly, "Oh. Alright, I've got a random question."
"Random answer."
"What's your favorite cartoon?"
"Hmm... Well... I love Scooby. But... favorites... I don't know."
"Okay... Did you take a foreign language in high school?"
"Oui." Michele shrugged. "One year of French, one of Spanish."
"I took German, but I can't remember much of it anymore." They moved out of the park, and he smiled as he heard one of the old ladies croon 'oh, what a cute couple...'
"Do we look that couple-ish?" Michele furrowed her brow as Bonnie nipped at Jesse, annoyed at the lack of attention.
"Apparently." Alex gave her hand a gentle squeeze, watching Jesse nip back at Bonnie.
Michele smiled slightly. "So... I was looking at engagement rings the other day..."
Bonnie leaned into her mate, panting.
Alex blinked, eyes widening in shock, "What?" He squeaked.
Jesse licked at Bonnie's face, tail wagging happily.
"Yeah... they had some nice ones... personally, I'm partial to the white gold or silver settings..." Aw... he squeaked... how cute. Michele struggled not to laugh.
Bonnie paused, looking at Alex. What an odd human...
"But..." He paled, "We... ow."
Jesse nosed at Bonnie, clearly stating that she should ignore Alex.
"Ow?" Michele smiled, squeezing his hand. "I'm pulling your leg."
Bonnie rolled her eyes, licking Jesse.
"My head hurts..." Alex smiled slightly back. "I figured that out... after you told me."
Jesse woofed, licking Bonnie in return.
"I'm not that horrid, Alex." She smirked. "Besides, why waste money on a ring when we should be saving to move into an apartment together?"
"No... you're not horrid, you're wicked. Leaning towards evil." He shook his head, lips quirked.
"Me?" She presented him with an innocent look. "Never."
"Ha!"
She pouted, "Meany."
Bonnie stilled, looking at Alex. Her mistress was unhappy.... so she wasn't either.
"Meany? Oh dear..." He smiled, giving her hand a gentle squeeze.
Jesse nipped gently at his mate, nosing her pointedly.
"So I shouldn't expect an engagement ring for awhile?" Michele squeezed his hand back.
Bonnie shot Jesse a look, ignoring him.
"Um... no?" Alex blinked.
Jesse whined softly, pouting.
Michele laughed. "Alright."
Bonnie sighed. Stupid males.
"Glad we agree on that." He smiled in relief. Phew.
Jesse's tail drooped, and he sniffed idly at the ground.
"I'm sorry. I just wanted to see how you'd react."
Bonnie sniffed at a bush, causing them to pause as she squatted near it.
"It's okay." Alex took advantage of the pause to brush his lips lightly over Michele's.
Jesse nosed at a rock, having already done his business on the way to the park.
Michele smiled, kissing him back before looking at Bonnie who was pawing at the dirt so it covered her little puddle.
Alex licked his lips before taking a small step back. Oh, it was tempting...
Jesse looked up from his rock as Bonnie moved away from her puddle.
Bonnie blinked at the other dog, considering before she rubbed along him.
Michele blinked at Alex. "Something wrong?"
Jesse blinked at Bonnie, before rubbing back against her.
Alex shook his head, "Nope."
"Are you sure, cause you looked all serious."
"I'm sure. Just reminding myself that we're on a sidewalk, not your apartment. Or mine, or... Yeah."
"Oh." Michele blushed.
Alex nodded, squeezing her hand again, "I find I've been reminding myself of that a lot."
"Sorry."
Bonnie sniffed at Jesse before sneezing.
"It's not your fault."
Jesse blinked, before trying to sniff the spot that had made his mate sneeze.
"Again, it's not not my fault, either." Michele blushed, recalling the episode with her drawings.
He let go of her hand briefly to flick her gently in the hip before taking it again, "It's okay, Michele. Really."
She smiled a bit. "Mmkay."
Bonnie yipped at a passing dog, obviously male.
"Let's go... Pat's fills up pretty quick."
Jesse growled as the other dog stopped, his hackles raising.
Michele was nodding when she jumped, "Jesse!" She looked at Alex. "What's gotten into him?"
Alex frowned at the male vizsla, before he noticed the other dog moving away. "Another dog. He's usually good, though..."
Jesse continued to growl low in his throat until the other dog was out of sight. He snorted, the sound finally stopping.
Bonnie gave him a weird look, nipping at him.
Michele nodded. "That was... interesting. Is this Pat's up here?"
Jesse nipped back at her, obviously still peeved that she'd given attention to another male.
Alex smiled slightly as he caught sight of the little restaurant. "Yep. That's Pat's."
Bonnie whined, finding the nip too hard. She fell back, walking to the other side of her owner.
Michele stared at Jesse. "Holy cow... that wasn't nice."
Jesse seemed to sigh, letting his head and tail drop again.
Alex frowned at the dog, his brow furrowing, "Maybe he's just jealous."
Michele frowned. "I don't care. That was in no way cool."
Bonnie held her tail between her legs as she walked, glancing nervously at Jesse.
Alex looked between the two dogs, biting the inside of his cheek. Don't argue, he told himself. Just don't.
Jesse slowly approached Bonnie, nosing her tentatively.
Sighing, Michele pulled her hand from his pushing her hair back. Great.
Bonnie studied the male dog warily for a moment.
Alex bit back a sigh of his own, watching the cement two feet in front of him as he walked.
Jesse whimpered softly, licking Bonnie apologetically.
Michele swallowed. Great. Redundant... but? He was annoyed because she didn't like her dog being hurt for any reason. Fun.
Bonnie sighed, leaning into the other dog as she looked up at Alex, a low growl leaving her throat. He was making Michele frown!
She snapped at him. Not two weeks into their relationship, and she'd already snapped at him. Alex bit his lip. Damn. That'd be a track record, even for him. Wait... was Bonnie growling at him? A small sigh escaped him. Great. Now both of them were mad.
"Bonnie." Michele sighed. "Ssh... no need to get cranky."
The dog nipped gently at Alex, almost as if a warning before licking her owner's hand.
Alex glanced at the dog, rubbing his leg. "Thanks, Bonnie."
Jesse pressed his nose to the bite, and Alex's lips quirked slightly. Aw... Jesse did have manners. He was apologizing.
Michele stared. "I'm sorry... I don't know what got into her. She's never like that." She reached over touching the bite. "Are you alright?"
Bonnie sat, tilting her head.
Alex offered her a small smile, "I'm fine."
Jesse sat next to her, looking up at Alex and Michele.
"Are you sure? She didn't break the skin or anything?"
"No, she didn't." He tried hard not to concentrate on exactly how her touch felt, instead concentrating on the fading pain of the bite.
"I'm sorry."
"I know."
She pulled her hand back, looking at Bonnie. "Bad dog. No bite."
Bonnie pouted, the tip of her tongue poking out a bit. "No."
Alex shook his head, "It's fine. She didn't break the skin or anything."
Jesse woofed, licking at his mate.
"Still, I don't want her doing that. What if you'd been a little kid?"
Bonnie made a content noise, laying down.
"Then I wouldn't be with you."
Jesse lay down next to her, resting his head on hers and watching the humans.
Michele sighed. "That's not the point... I mean, she could do that to anybody, and that's not good."
Bonnie panted softly.
"But she didn't do that to anybody." Alex pointed out. "She probably won't do it again anyway."
Jesse's tail wagged slowly, and he licked Bonnie leisurely.
"But she might." Michele shook her head.
"But she didn't." Alex sighed. Arg. He was being stupid, and stubborn, and hurt... Now he understood why Janet always said he'd make a better girl than guy.
Michele took a deep breath, fisting her hand in her hair as she pushed it back. "Alex... the point is, I don't want her biting, and, as she's my dog, I will tell her not to."
Bonnie seemed to shrink back. Oh boy. She'd made things worse with her nip...
"Fine." Alex shook his head, tempted to roll his eyes. What had happened to not arguing?
Jesse licked her reassuringly. Nah... Alex was just moody.
She swallowed, biting her lip. "Um... I..." She looked down at the dogs. "Come on. Let's... let's go."
Alex sighed again as they began to move towards Pat's, the dogs stretching out their muscles.
Michele scratched Bonnie's ears, as they walk. "Careful, this part gets uneven-"
Alex stubbed his toe, stumbling. "Shit!"
Jesse woofed, looking up at Alex.
"Alex!" Michele flushed. "Watch your language."
Bonnie tilted her head, nuzzling the stripper as if asking if he was okay.
Alex looked down at the dog, giving her a brief scratch before looking up at Michele. "What?"
"You cussed."
"Yeah..." He frowned, "So?"
"Was that honestly necessary?" She shook her head. "I don't like swearing."
"I'm sorry." He tried not to look too incredulous. Okay...
She sighed, looking down again. Great. So now he was annoyed because she didn't like potty mouths.
He rubbed his forehead. If she didn't like swearing, she probably wouldn't get along with Gia...
"I... I'm-" He cut off her apology.
"It's fine." He lowered his hand, stuffing it in his pocket.
Michele swallowed. Darn it.
They made it the to Pat's in silence, only the dogs breaking the quiet with an occasional yip.
Bonnie licked her mate, sighing at the tension.
Jesse nuzzled her back, tail drooping. Stupid humans.
Michele reached down, petting the dogs. "How are we doing this?"
Bonnie frowned at her Mistress' submissive tone.
Alex shrugged, "However you want to."
Jesse blinked. Alex sounded miserable...
"Well, we'll have to eat outside... let's just... sit down."
"Okay."
Michele moved to one of the tables, lifting her chair and placing the loop of the leash around the leg before lowering it and sitting. "That's a girl..." She scratched the dog's ears. "Sit, Baby."
Alex sighed softly, doing the same with Jesse's leash. A waiter came over nearly immediately, and handed them menus. "Alright. So, what do you want?"
"Um... I was thinking some waffles and fruit." She opened the menu. "Orange juice too."
"Okay." He opened his menu, blinking at the list of breakfast. "I think... biscuits and gravy."
Michele bit her lip. "You like gravy?"
Alex nodded, looking over at her. "Yeah."
"Oh." She hated gravy... and biscuits.
"Why?" He blinked.
"I... dislike biscuits and gravy."
"Oh."
She shrugged. "Not a huge deal."
Bonnie laid down under the table, resting her head on her paws.
Jesse sighed, laying down to face his mate as the waiter came back to take Alex's and Michele's orders.
They ordered, and the tense meal began.
********
Michele sighed as she entered her apartment. She'd hardly touched her breakfast, as the tension had made her feel nearly ill. Alex had expressed no interest in seeing her again, and she'd reverted to her usual shy self, stuttering here and there to a man who'd touched her body like no other man had.
She unhooked Bonnie from her leash, who licked at her hand. "Good girl, Bonnie. Go lay down."
The dog yipped, jumping up on the couch.
Michele sighed again, rubbing her neck. Maybe... she should just give up on the male species. On the human species. Give up on... Arg.
She swallowed, sitting down. Great. But what had she done that had set him off? She had no idea.
*******
Alex sighed, slumping into his chair. Arg. He'd dropped off Jesse, and there was still no sign of Aahz. He would've liked to talk to her... Biting back another sigh, he turned on his computer. Might as well get something done.
Michele had been... distant, at breakfast. That could have been his fault, but a niggling thought in the back of his brain told him 'get over her. she's sick of you already'. Tempted to beat his head against his monitor, he signed into MSN messenger. Maybe Gia's on...
As it turned out, Gia was on. A window popped up almost immediately. He sighed. Did he really want to talk to her?
'Hi Alex.'
Alex thought a moment before typing back, 'Hi Gia.'
'What's up, brother dearest?'
'I messed up again. You?'
'I'm calling you. Stop typing.'
Alex rolled his eyes, fishing out his cell phone as it rang. "Hey Gia."
"Hey bro. Now, how'd you screw up? Was it with that Michele chick?" Gia's voice was a slightly husky soprano, and held the ever-present bounce of her being.
"Yeah... I pissed her off today." He sighed.
"What'd you do?"
"I don't know... Never mind. I do. You know how Janet always says I'd make a good girl?"
Gia groaned, "Al, are you PMSing?"
"No! I just... She snapped at me because her dog bit me, and I got all moody."
"Smooth move, bro."
"Yeah... I feel horrible. I really like her."
"Like... Love like?"
"Maybe?" Alex bit his lip, "It's too soon in the relationship to tell, if there's a relationship anymore. She makes me smile, and laugh, and... other things."
"I don't want to know about the other things."
"I wasn't going to tell you."
"Good."
Alex sighed, "Look... I'm gonna go. Get some sleep before work."
"'Kay. What'd you say her last name was, Al?"
"Reeves, why?"
Gia's voice was falsely innocent. "No reason! Talk to you later, Ally-bro!" The line clicked dead.
Alex shook his head, shutting off his phone. Whatever. His sister was weird.

Laura sighed, pressing her face into Micah's shoulder. Whoa, she felt like crap...
He rubbed her back. "Okay, Pet? You feel hot."
She swallowed, shaking her head slightly. A very catlike hiss escaped her as her temples throbbed. "Ow..."
Micah shifted, glancing at the alarm. "You should call in, Pet. You need to see the doctor."
"I really, really don't want to move." She slowly blinked open her eyes. Her nose felt like someone had stuffed cotton up it, her throat was doing its imitation of grated cheese, and her head was filled with red-hot rocks. Not to mention the definite roiling in her stomach.
"Alright... I'll call." He sighed, kissing her temple. "Now... can you move a bit?"
She shifted, her head finding the soft pillow, "Thank you, Micah..."
"Mm. I'll be right back, Pet." He stood, padding naked out to the phone as the one in their room had stopped working.
Laura's knees tucked up, and she swallowed. God... Damn virus.
Micah picked up the phone, dialing the school.
"Seckman Junior High School, this is Karen." Karen answered, sounding bored.
"Hello, Karen. This is Micah Callahan-"
"Oh..." Karen's voice perked, "Laura's fellow, right?"
"Yes, this is her fiancé." He sighed. "Laura's ill, she can't come in today."
"Poor girl. Did she catch that da-rn virus?" She asked, clearly flirting, despite Micah's unspoken warning.
"It seems." He shook his head. "I need to go and make her some soup.
Karen sighed, "Alright... give her my best wishes, Micah."
"Indeed. Have a nice day, Karen." He hung up, padding back into the bedroom.
Laura's eyes had shut again, and her skin was flushed. Her eyes cracked open, and she smiled slightly at him. Stupid weak immune system...
He crawled towards her, kissing her forehead. "I'm going to have Cherry come down and look at you, maybe have the Pard cuddle. The heat will do you good."
"Mmkay." She shut her eyes, sighing softly, "I love you."
"I love you too, Pet." He straightened, heading towards Cherry.
He found her in the kitchen, searching through the fridge. She stood, clutching the milk.
"Cherry?"
She nearly dropped the milk, "Nimir Raj!"
"It's Micah, Cherry. We've been over this." Micah shook his head. "Laura's ill."
Cherry put the milk away again, shutting the fridge, "Ill?"
"Ill... she's feverish... I believe it's the virus being passed around."
Cherry nodded slightly, "As far as I know there's nothing remarkable about this virus. She'll need to sweat it out, and soup."
"Weres don't catch these easily."
"I know. No one else has caught it, and I'm not sure what to do for her." Cherry sighed.
Micah nodded. "Is Zane up? And Gregory and Caleb?"
Cherry's brow furrowed, "No... but they will be in a second. I'll be right back, Nimir Raj." She moved towards the stairs.
Micah smiled slightly, heading back to his lover. Poor Pet...
Laura sniffed as he came back into the room, and she rolled over to face him.
"Hey, Pet. Cherry's waking them up." Micah crawled into the bed, pulling her to him.
Laura snuggled into him, "She doesn't need to..."
"Too late." Zane mumbled from the doorway, scratching his belly. "Cher's mean..."
Caleb yawned, stretching, "Mornin'..."
Laura blinked, sniffing again. "Morning everyone..."
Gregory rubbed his eyes, yawning after his lover. "Don' yawn, Cale..."
Zane sighed. "Sleep?"
Micah smiled. Ah. Such an interesting life he led. Not bad for a stuffy old accountant.
"Mm... sorry." Caleb wrapped an arm around his lover.
Cherry came in after the boys, "Alright... in the bed, now."
Laura smiled slightly, resting her arms on Micah's.
Zane laid down at the foot of the bed, closing his eyes. He was asleep in an instant.
Gregory leaned into his lover. "Mmm..."
Micah kissed his Nimir Ra's jaw. "Come on. Pard, into the bed."
Caleb led Gregory over to the bed, curling up near Laura and Micah.
Cherry moved, laying down behind her lover, wrapping her arms around him.
Laura shut her eyes, feeling warm, safe, and sick.
Gregory lay near his lover. "Amazing how many people you can fit in one bed..."
Micah laughed softly. "Mm. Sleep."
Caleb slipped his arms around Gregory's waist, "Sleep's good..."
Laura let out a soft purr, slowly giving in to the warmth and sleep tugging at her.
The were leopards drifted off, their combined heat helping to heal their Nimir Ra.
The room was silent until... a loud fart echoed from the end of the bed.
Caleb blinked open his eyes, sniffing. "Erg..." Ew!
Gregory buried his nose in his lover's skin. "Zane!" He hissed.
Zane however, mumbled something about a teddy bear, still asleep.
Cherry rolled away from him, burying her nose into the blankets. Yech.
Caleb shuddered, hiding his face into Gregory's hair.
Gregory sighed. "Can we cork his butt?"
"No. It might become a projectile. That was bad enough. Now sleep." The Nimir Raj's voice was amused.
Caleb shuddered, "Dunno how Nursey deals with that..."
"Air fresheners." Cherry muttered.
Laura groaned softly, "Has he always had a bowel problem?"
"TEDDY!" Zane shouted, sitting up.
"I vote Zane off the bed."
Micah laughed softly at Gregory's misquote.
Cherry blinked open her eyes, "Zane... go back to sleep... and no farting."
Caleb rubbed his nose, "I've got no nose hairs..."
Laura smiled slightly, feeling relaxed despite the smell. This was home.
"Farting? I didn't fart."
"Did too." Gregory said before kissing Caleb's nose. "Better?"
Micah shook his head. "Sleep. Now."
Cherry sighed, letting her eyes shut. "Go to sleep, Zane."
Caleb brushed his lips over Gregory's, "Mmhm..."
Laura swallowed, listening as the member's of her 'family' drifted off again.
Micah kissed her temple. "Sleep, Pet. You'll feel better."
"Love you, Micah..." Laura yawned, wincing slightly as her throat twinged.
"Love you too, Pet."
