“OW!”
“I’m sorry! Shit. Sorry. Sorry.”
I rubbed my head, pushing myself up. OW. OW. OW. OW. Fucking hell, taking an arm cast to the head bloody hurt. Jacob pulled me in to his body, his fingers pushing my hair out of the way so he could examine the damage.
He frowned. “There’s a red mark. I think it’s going to bruise a little. Sorry.” He gently kissed the sore spot.
It made my eyes water. Jesusmotherfuckingchrist. Gah. Right above my eye, too. It felt like someone was plucking all my eyebrow hair and stubbing my all toes at the same time and all the pain went straight above my right eye. Jacob pulled me back down with him, wrapping us with the bed covers.
“I’m sorry, baby.” Jacob mumbled against my forehead.
I kissed his jaw. “Don’t worry about it. Just don’t swing your arm again, you’re not a bird. You will not fly.”
Jacob chuckled. “Alright.”
Buddy leaped up on to my stomach, making me jump with a yelp. He wagged his tailed excitedly as he climbed up my body.
“Told you.” Jacob reached out and stroked him once he had nestled himself between our bodies. “Total bed hog.”
“No, he isn’t. He just wants a cuddle in the mornings.” I tickled Buddy under his chin.
“Hmm,” Jacob nuzzled against me. “What time are you leaving for work?”
The sudden change of topic caught me off guard. I peeked up at him. “Why?”
He shrugged. “No reason.”
I pursed my lips. “Well, I can stay-“
“No.” He shook his head. “It’s Friday, it’s only one day. Go.”
I sat myself up and twisted to look at him. “You only got out the hospital yesterday. Why do you want me gone so badly?”
“I don’t. Besides, I can unpack my things, hangout with Buddy. You know, be lazy." He twisted his mouth in to a smile.
I narrowed my eyes at him. "I don't like that smile." I waved my finger in the air. "That's your mischief smile."
Jacob barked out a laugh. "My what?"
"Your mischief smile. You're up to something; my spidey-senses are tingling."
"Ness, I'm not." He laughed. "It’s Friday, only one more day then you've got me to yourself for the whole weekend."
"Mmm," I pursed my lips. That was definitely his mischief grin.
“Let me see your hand.” He said.
My brow creased as I held it out.
“No, the other one.”
I swapped hands.
Jacob took my hand in his with a small smile. His finger rubbed circles on my ring finger. “It’s rubbed off. I’ll have to draw it again.”
I grinned like an idiot. “OK!”
Jacob chuckled as he reached over to the bedside table and swiped up a pen. He stuck his tongue out of his mouth as he re-drew his make do ring on to my finger. When he was finished, he brought my hand to his lips.
“I reckon this has saved me a few grand from forking out to buy you a proper ring.”
I playfully swatted his arm. “Such a cheap arse.”
Jacob laughed. “You know it, baby.”
Work was relatively simple and straight forward. I didn't see Jen at lunch; she had a doctor's appointment. I reluctantly forced myself to actually finish those client reports, which took me the better part of the morning. As I was leaving I decided that I'd drop by Jen’s desk, to make sure she wasn’t dying or anything. And if she was, I’d make sure that she documented that I get all of her shoes and bags in her Will. It was the least she could do.
She was on the phone when I got to her desk.
"Yes, I've given him my name, just ask for it when you go in and he'll get it for you." She inched her chin. "Uhuh. Yes... The one we talked about, I sent you the picture, remember? You said she’d like - oh, urng, I'll call you later." She glanced up at me as she hung up. "Do you make a habit of standing there like that listening to peoples conversations?" She raised her eyebrow; her tone was a bit harsh.
I shrugged. "Only if it’s worth listening too. Who were you talking to?"
"Donna." Jennifer snapped instantly, looking at her computer with sudden interest. "Are you going home?"
"Yeah," I nodded. "I just wanted to see how things went at the doctor's?"
"The what?"
"Doctors."
Jennifer just stared at me then realisation rolled over her features. "Oh, yeah. Fine, fine. Everything is fine."
I narrowed my eyes at her. "Good. Is everything OK?" Something was up. I've watched Sherlock too many times to let her odd behaviour slip past me.
"Yes, thank you. Shouldn't you be going?"
I sighed. What is with people wanting me gone today? "Yes, I'm going."
I made an attempt to leave.
"Oh, Ness?" Jen called after me.
I turned around. "Yeah?"
Jennifer folded her arms on her desk. "Tomorrow. I'll pick you up at nine."
What? My brow furrowed. "I think I'm going to spend tomorrow with Jacob."
Jen shook her head like she was telling off a child. "No, you're not. You're coming out with me, OK? And what the fuck happened to your right eye? It looks like a blind person tried to do your eye shadow. "
"Jake caught me with his cast by accident this morning.” I shrugged. “And, we’ll see. I might have plans with Jake.”
Jennifer raised her eyebrow with a smirk. “Oh, sex injury? Don’t you just hate those? Whatever. Just be ready for nine, capiche?"
There was no arguing with her. "Yeah, yeah."
Finally! I was home. I opened the front door and slid out of my heels by the stairs. I shrugged out of my coat and hung it on the banister along with setting my bag on the floor. I poked my head in the front room expecting Jacob to be lying on the sofa.
He wasn't there.
"Jake?" I called, heading for the kitchen. "Jacob, where are you?" It suddenly felt like we were playing a game of hide and seek.
"Up here!"
Ah. Upstairs. I trudged upstairs and in to our bedroom. Buddy was spread out asleep on the bed while Jacob was sat crossed legged on the floor at our wardrobe.
"Hey."
Jacob shifted around with a huge grin and a certain glint in his eye. "Hey yourself."
I sat on the edge of the bed, tucking my hands between my knees. "What have you been up to all day?"
He shrugged; the smile still plastered on his face. "Just sorting my things out. I, er, came across something today."
I shrugged. "Yeah?"
"Yeah," Jacob twisted around, his back to me while he fumbled with some boxes. "This." He said as he turned to me.
OH MY GOD!
He was holding up my virbator with a wolfish grin. How the fuck did Jacob manage find that?! My cheeks flushed an unnatural shade of red. All moisture in my mouth evaporated. My hands became clammy... Fuck! Boyfriends should NOT find those!
"I take it this is yours?" Jacob asked, smirking and hitching his eyebrow up.
"Um." I swallowed. Shit! "No?"
"No?" Jacob looked amused. "Well, it isn't mine."
"Oh..." Heat was radiating from my face. Seriously, how the fuck did he find that? I'm sure I put it in my private box right at the back on my side of the wardrobe. Oh, maybe he was snooping! Sneaky little bastard.
"Hmm." Jacob tilted his head, his thumb hovering over the switch.
Oh god! Please, please, please do not turn it on!!!!
Jacob switched it on. The low hum filled the room. I could have died.
"It still works." He noted, holding in his laughter.
Of course it still works; it’s a fresh set of batteries!
"Really?" I cleared my throat. "That's, er, interesting, isn't it?"
Jacob's facade broke as he howled with laughter. He switched it off and wiggled it in the air. I watched in horror as the top slightly bent with the violent motion. Oh no!
"OK, yes. You found it." I rolled my eyes, thoroughly shamed. "Please put it down." I muttered, afraid he’d break it. It cost me seventy quid. And it was on sale!
Jacob kinked up a brow. "Do you use it often?"
"Not really." I hope I got away with that lie. Although, it wasn’t a lie, really. I mean, sometimes I used it. Not often, though. Usually while I was in the bath – I’d made sure it was waterproof.
"Hmm." He looked at it, the corner of his mouth lifting. "Is it bad that the thought of you using it turns me on?"
I blushed and adverted my eyes. My stomach did that weird flip thing.
Jacob laughed and finally set it down. I felt a whoosh of air escape my lips. Oh, thank god. I now had to come up with a better hiding place for my little friend.
“We’re going to have to have a little party us three.” Jacob said as he pushed himself up and sat down beside me on the bed.
“What?” I blanched. “You want to have sex with my vibrator?”
He hitched up his brow. “No, I don’t want to have sex with your vibrator. I want to use it on you,” he smirked wickedly.
“Is that so?”
“It is so.”
I leaned against him and he lazily draped an arm over my shoulders. He was warm. And he smelt so good.
“Jen wants me to go out with her tomorrow,” I nuzzled in to his shoulder.
His fingers traced along my arm. “Right. You’re going, aren’t you?” He asked, after a moment.
I frowned. “Well, I wasn’t really planning on it.”
“You should go.”
“I knew you’d say that.”
Right on nine the next morning Jennifer was at the front door.
"Let's go, funky tits."
I snorted. "Polite as always." I grabbed my bag and coat from the banister.
Jacob wasn't far behind. "Don't get in to trouble, ladies."
Jennifer raised an eyebrow. "You obviously don't know us very well. Right, let's get to it."
I turned to Jacob. "OK, ring me if you need-"
"Ness," Jacob interrupted with a little smile. "I know." He gently brushed his hands along my cheeks and in to my hair as he leaned down and kissed me hard on the lips. “Be good.”
I grinned. “As always.”
Jacob gently slapped my behind as I turned around and headed for the door. He winked at me as I looked over my shoulder at him. “See ya.” He smiled, closing the door behind us.
“Right, Oxford Street OK?” Jennifer asked once we were in her car.
I shrugged. “Sure. Did it seem like Jacob couldn’t get me out of the house quick enough?” I asked, peering at the front door.
“No.” She said as we pulled away. “So what do you want to do today?”
I gave her a look. “Are you serious? I thought you had a reason for wanting to go out.” I didn’t mean to sound ungrateful but I’d much rather have spent the day with Jacob. And my virbator. Heheheh.
“Oh, I do.” She nodded at the road. “I need…underwear. Crotchless ones.”
“What?”
Jennifer gave me an impatient look. “I need Crotchless pants.”
“Why can’t you cut the crotch out of a pair you already have?”
Jennifer snorted. “Because.”
I raised my brow at her. “Because what? What’s the point of them anyway? It’s easier just not to wear any.”
“Ness, you obviously have no idea of sex appeal, do you? “
I pursed my lips. “Obviously not. Couldn’t you just order some from Ann Summers?”
Jennifer stopped at a red traffic light and frowned. She gave me an odd look. “What is with you today? Are you going to be a misery all day?”
“No,” I sighed. “Sorry. I’m just tired.”
“Oh,” Jennifer smirked as we pulled away again. “Up all night with hot sex?”
I laughed. “No. He found my vibrator.”
“What?!” Jennifer practically shouted, switching glances between me and the road. “What do you mean, he found it? What did he say? Did he get offended?”
I shook my head. “One question at a time.”
“Sorry,” She mumbled.
“Anyway, it was in the back of my wardrobe, in my private box. And he wasn’t mad or anything, in fact, he, uhm, wants to on me.” I blushed.
“What? Let me get this straight: he found your pleasure aid and he said he wants to use it on you? Like he wants to…dildo fuck you?”
I licked my lips. “I guess, yeah.”
“Fucking hell.” Jennifer gave a low whistle. “Lock that shit down.”
“I plan to.”
Jennifer twisted her mouth in to something like a smirk. “Hmm, so I hear.”
*****
“So we need to find you Crotchless panties?” I raised a brow.
“Yes.”
I huffed. I did not like this place. Not one bit. I glanced around the dark shop. My eyes caught on to leather masks, straps, whips, bondage play… I felt a bit nervous being here. This stuff was a lot heavier than what I was used too. And I wasn’t getting the friendly vibe from the heavy tattoo covered shop assistant who kept sending cold glares my way. Who stole the jam from her doughnut?
Jennifer picked up a ball mouth gag. “Uh, I wonder…”
“You’d actually use that?” I peered over her shoulder.
“Probably not. But I did gag him the other day, though. That was fun.” She glanced at me. “I used one of my socks.”
I grimaced. “Lovely. I hope it wasn’t one that you were wearing.”
Jennifer put the mouth gag back down and wondered over towards the handcuffs and various other mean looking things.
“Hey, don’t you need a new pair of these?” Jen flicked a mental set of cuffs.
I shook my head and blushed under the hard stare from the angry-looking shop assistant. “No. I don’t think Jacob would let me.”
Jennifer laughed. “Hah. No, I don’t blame him.”
“Yup. So can we find your panties and go?” I turned my back to the lady sending me death looks. “Because she is really freaking me out.” I hissed.
Jennifer raised her eyebrow and looked over my shoulder at the shop assistant. “Oh. She is a little scary, isn’t she? Just don’t look at her.”
“It’s a little hard not to. It’s like she’s trying to suck away my soul.”
Jennifer barked a short laugh. “She’s the devil. This is just her day job.”
*****
“Do you mind? That’s really starting to piss me off.” Jennifer leaned over and slammed her hand over mine, stopping me from continually tapping my fork on the table.
“Sorry.” I said, not really sorry at all. I glanced casually around the place. It was practically empty. This was odd. I’ve never seen an empty Nando’s before…
Jennifer eased her hand off mine. “What’s the rush? You got somewhere to be?” She leaned back in her chair as she picked up her cup and took a swig.
“No.” I let the fork drop from my fingers. “I don’t know. I wanted to spend today with Jake.”
Jen clutched her chest after she set her cup down. “Oh! I’m hurt! I’m your best friend.”
I pursed my lips. “I know, I know. I’ve just missed him. After his accident we haven’t really spend time together.”
Jennifer grinned. “Uhmmm.”
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“Stop smiling like that. It’s weird.”
Her grin only got bigger.
“Stop.”
She laughed. “Sorry. Just relax. I’m sure you’ll find your….time with him.” She grinned.
“Fingers crossed.” I reached down to the floor and hauled up my purse, setting it on my lap before diving in to find my mobile. The time was 1.33PM. No texts, no missed calls. Nothing. Nada. “Want to leave soon?” I asked, shoving my phone back in to my purse and setting it back down on the floor.
Jennifer glanced at her wrist watch. “Not yet.”
“What?”
Jennifer ripped off a piece of garlic bread from her plate and threw it in her mouth. “Not yet.”
I sighed. “Didn’t your Mum teach you not to eat with your mouth full? It’s disgusting.”
“My Mum’s a filthy whore. I tend not to listen to her advice.” Jennifer said as she finished her mouthful. “We can leave about six-ish. Or when it gets dark. Whichever is first.”
“What?” Something was definitely going on. I wasn’t stupid. “Right, Burke. Spill it. Who’s got your balls in an iron vice? What’s happening?”
Jennifer just shrugged. “I don’t know why you automatically assume something is going to happen. I just want to spend time with my friend, since when was that considered a crime?”
I pursed my lips. “You’re full of shit, anybody ever tell you that?”
“All the time.” She grinned. “Now shut up about it or I’ll have no other choice but to murder you, which would be quite sad. I’m awfully fond of you. I’ve crafted you in to the perfect friend. What a waste it’d be.”
I laughed. “You’re so sweet.”
“I think so. Want to see my Crotchless panties again?” Jennifer asked excitedly.
I snorted. “Why not?”
After spending the entire day walking up and down Oxford Street, my feet were ready to drop off. We spent the better half of two hours just looking at CD’s in HMV. I swear Jennifer made me look at every single one.
As we pulled up outside my house, I frowned. All the lights were off. The house looked dark and empty. Oh, so much for wanting to spend time with Jacob.
“He isn’t in.” I said, climbing out of the car, trying to hide my frown.
“Bummer.” Jennifer said after she had locked the car and started up the path alongside me. “Well, aren’t you going to invite me in?”
I smirked as I went to search for my keys in my purse. “You don’t need inviting in. You’re like a vampire. Expect I can’t rescind your invitation. Ever.”
Jennifer laughed and tucked her hair behind her ears. “You’re right. Now open the door bitch, I’m freezing my nuts off here.”
“Charming,” I mumbled as I pushed the door open.
I stopped dead. Red candles trailed from the front door to the kitchen. What the hell? They looked exactly like the ones I used to when we brought the house….Oh my god. This is why he wanted me gone….my stomach twisted with nerves and my mouth went dry.
“Go, then.” Jennifer whispered with a nudge of her hand.
Slowly, I followed the trail of red candles, trying to tell myself this was really happening. My mouth shifted in to a grin. This was so exciting! But I hoped that the candles didn’t get wax on the carpet, it would not be me who would be cleaning that up. The candles continued to lead through the kitchen and to the back door, which was wide open. I glanced over my shoulder at Jennifer. Her eyes were wide with a goofy grin. “Move.” She mouthed, flicking her hands at me. I dropped the bag on the table on the way through the kitchen. I carefully stepped outside.
I gasped.
On the fences on either side of the garden and above the decking area were fairy lights, all twinkling in the night. Even the tree was covered in lights.
Jacob was standing in the middle of a (awfully) shaped love heart made from candles, which flickered in the gentle breeze. He held his hand out to me with a wide smile.
“Hi.” He said softly as he took my hand when I reached him in the mangled heart shape.
“Hi.” I felt incredibly shy all of a sudden. “You did all this?”
Jacob grinned. “Not by myself. I’m still injured.”
I nodded. “Jen.”
“And me!”
Dex suddenly appeared from nowhere. I grinned at him as he gave me and Jake a firm nod before taking Jennifer and walking back in to the house, leaving Jacob and me alone.
“Ness,” he gently grabbed my other hand. “If you were to ask me what I’ve learned during the past couples weeks or so, I’d have to tell you a few things. Firstly, I can’t iron for shit.” He grinned when I laughed. “Seriously, I can’t. I don’t know what I did before you came along. Secondly,” he looked down at our hands. “I didn’t think it was possible for me to love someone this much.” Jacob glanced up; all traces of humour had disappeared. “When we broke up in Spain, I thought I had lost you for good. I was a mess without you. And that thought scares me. Really scares me-”
I tried to speak. “Jake-“
“Shh.” He shook his head and carried on. “You are the love of my life; you are my reason to wake up every morning. You are…hell, you’re just you. I can’t even begin to describe how much you mean to me. I don’t just love you...I’m so in love with you, it’s…unbelievable. You’re mine and I’m yours, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I want us to be sitting hand in hand in the garden in forty years’ time watching our grandchild play. I want us to have it all. So what I’m saying is,” Jacob let go of my hands and dropped to the ground on one knee as he pulled a little black box from his pocket and opened it. “Renesmee Cullen, will you marry me?”
The ring looked absolutely beautiful. It was silver with one larger diamond in the middle, with little tiny diamonds on either side on the band. Elegant and simple but very beautiful. It couldn’t have been cheap.
“Yes!” I practically jumped up and down, oozing excitement. “Yes! Yes!”
Jacob grinned brightly, standing up; he took the silver ring from the box and slid it on to my left finger. I didn’t get time to look at it properly because Jacob pulled me in to him, his arms tight around my body.
“I love you.” He murmured before kissing me on the lips.
“Oh, Jake,” I grinned up at him. “I love you too! So so so so much!”
It was official. I was going to become a Black, and the thought made me giddy and weak at the knees.
