Our alarm clock went off, and both Ana and I stirred. I glanced over at her, snuggled up to her pillow, one blue eye open, glancing at me.
“Good morning, beautiful.” “Morn- hold that thought!” Ana threw her hand over her mouth and raced to the bathroom. I followed quickly behind, holding her hair as she knelt over the toilet. “Are you okay?” I rubbed Ana’s back as she wiped her face and flushed. She moved over to the sink to brush her teeth, and I brushed mine as well. “I’m okay, baby.” We kissed good morning and laid back on the bed for our new little morning routine. I lifted off Ana’s pajama shirt and rolled down her shorts. “Let’s see, here.” Just as I’d done every morning since Ana told me she was pregnant, I skimmed my hands over her body, looking for changes. “These are bigger.” I kissed each mound of her breast, making her giggle. “And this is bigger.” I traced a thumb over the tiny bulge at her stomach. I loved that no one else would ever know it was there except for me. I kissed her swollen belly. Ana reached a hand down to feel herself. “Wow, my stomach really does feel hard, like a little tennis ball or something.” “Mmm,” I replied, skimming my lips over said tennis ball. “I love that my baby’s inside of you.” This pregnancy was so different from her last. Not once did I ever take it for granted. Every day I woke up thankful for our child. “Okay, so today’s the big day.” Ana rose and stretched, and I admired her swollen breasts as she sat up. “Mr. Grey, your tongue hanging out the side of your mouth is very unbecoming. Care to lift your chin off the floor?” I stared at my wife. She was back in full force, surprising me at every turn, and I felt like I had fallen head over heels in love with her all over again. When I thought back to a few months ago when we were lost in the heartache of infertility, it made me sad that I had missed out on her wit and charm for that period of time. I was so glad to have her back, to have us back. “Sorry, Mrs. Grey, did you mean this tongue?” I licked all around each nipple, making her squeal from their tenderness. “Christian!” I smiled and tapped her on the behind as she got up. “Yes, today’s the big day. The family arrives for brunch in an hour.” “Okay, then we have some getting ready to do.” “Divide and conquer, Mrs. Grey?” “Divide and conquer, Mr. Grey. It’ll be good practice for when Blip 2 arrives.” Ana headed to the bathroom to shower, and I headed to the nursery to get Ted. “Good morning, Teddy!” I flicked on his light. “Dada!” he called. I changed his diaper and brought him down for breakfast. I sat him in his high chair, spilling out cheerios on his tray and handing him a sippy cup of milk. I poured myself a bowl of cereal, and we ate side by side. Every so often he’d offer up a Cheerio with his pudgy fingers, and I’d snatch it happily with my lips, making him giggle. Ana was out of the shower when we went back upstairs, about to dry her hair. I stuck my head into the bathroom. “What’s the outfit of the day for little boy?” “Mama!” Ted squealed as I held him at the door. “I think he should be the one to make the big announcement,” she replied. “Good idea.” I took the baby to his room and found his ‘big brother’ t-shirt. My family was going to go crazy when they saw it. When he was all dressed and ready, I headed downstairs with him to play until Ana could relieve me. She came down a few minutes later, and we tag teamed, switching off so that I could go shower while she stayed with Ted. I came back down a while later and found Ana and Teddy right where I left them. “Ana, did you eat?” She nodded yes. “Did you take your vitamins?” “Yes, Christian.” “Good.” I wasn’t taking any chances. We had passed the 8-week-mark, but the true safe zone was at 12 weeks, and I couldn’t quite calm down until then. I took a look at my wife playing with our son on the floor. She had on a pink blouse with dark jeans. Her hair was blown out, and her blue eyes were shining. “You’re glowing, Ana.” “Oh, stop.” Ana smiled. “I’m serious.” I laid down to play with Teddy. “You’re gorgeous, all flushed pink cheeks and shiny hair. Radiant.” She sighed and leaned in for a kiss. The doorbell rang, and I leaped up to open it. “Good morning, Gail.” “Good morning, Mr. Grey. I’m here to get brunch started.” “Perfect, I’m sure everyone will be arriving soon enough.” Gail headed into the kitchen, and I was glad she didn’t stop to get a good look at Teddy. I wanted my family to find out our news first. A little while later, we heard a car pulling up. “Probably my parents arriving a little early,” I told Ana. “Guess it’s show time! Teddy, are you going to show Grandma and Grandpa your t-shirt? You tell them Mommy has a baby in her tummy.” Ana whispered the last part so that Gail wouldn’t overhear. We all made our way to the door, opening it and watching my parents head up our front steps. “Hi Teddy!” My mom called to my son who was peeking out from behind Ana’s leg. Finally they made it in, and I kissed them hello. “Come here, little one!” My mom scooped Teddy into her arms. “You are getting so big!” She transferred him to my dad, but as she did so, I finally saw her gasp as she caught sight of the message on his shirt. “Oh my god! You’re having another baby?!” A huge smile spread across my mom’s face. Ana and I both nodded like fools. I saw tears spring to my mom’s eyes. She was the only one who knew how we’d struggled with infertility for so many months. “Oh, Ana! Congratulations!” She took Ana into a big hug. “How are you feeling, sweetheart?” “Pretty good! Some morning sickness and fatigue, but that’s all.” “Christian!” My mom threw her arms around me. “I told you it would happen,” she whispered. “I knew it in my bones.” “You were right, Mom. This baby was coming when he wanted to come.” “When are you due?” my dad asked, still holding Teddy. “About seven months from now.” “Oh, wonderful! So you and Kate are about five months apart. Wow, I’m going to be a grandmother of three within the year!” She took Teddy back from my dad. “I hope the rest of my grandchildren are as sweet as you, Theodore.” She kissed his cheek. We were all still gathered in the foyer when Elliot’s car pulled up. “I need to borrow the little announcer again, sorry!” I took Teddy, and my parents went to sit down in the living room. It was back to the three of us waiting to tell our news once more. My brother helped his six-months-pregnant wife up the stairs. “Looking good, Kate.” I kissed my sister-in-law hello. “Hi!” Ana squealed, barely able to contain herself, rubbing her friend’s bump. “Up! Up!” Teddy tugged at Ana’s shirt until she lifted him. Kate leaned over to give him a kiss before catching sight of his shirt. “Oh. My. God!” she let out a high-pitched squeal. “What? What is it?!” Elliot looked a bit panicked. “Ana’s pregnant!!” she shrieked. “You’re pregnant?” “Yes, I’m pregnant! We’re pregnant together after all!” “Oh my god! Oh my god!” Kate’s hormones must have been out of whack because she went from happy squeals to tears in two seconds flat. “Kate!” Ana rubbed her back and rolled her eyes towards Elliot and me with a shrug. “I’m sorry, I’m just so happy!” Kate sniffed. “Yes, you look it, babe.” Elliot laughed. “Congrats, man!” He gave me a friendly slap on the back and took Kate’s hand to go say hi to our parents in the den. “Alright, just one more to go.” I cradled Ana and Teddy in my arms. “She’s going to flip!” Ana said, knowing my sister all too well. Finally, my sister pulled up and jumped out of the car. We opened the door, and Teddy immediately started wriggling in Ana’s arms. “Mimi! Mimi!” As much as we loved Kate, it was pretty clear who Teddy’s favorite aunt was. “There’s my favorite nephew,” Mia cooed as she walked in. She gave me a hug, and I kissed her cheek. She hugged Ana, taking her in. “What’s going on?” Mia eyed Ana suspiciously. “What?” Ana asked, playing with my sister. “You are like glowing. Wait, are you glowing glowing?” Mia was trying to contain herself from jumping up and down. I was pretty impressed at how quickly she could tell. “Teddy, why don’t you tell your Aunt Mia what’s going on.” I shifted Teddy so that his shirt was on display. “I knew it!” my sister squealed, enveloping Ana in another hug. She launched herself at me, too. “Congratulations, big brother! Ah, I’m going to have so many little nieces and nephews running around!” She grabbed Teddy from my arms and danced around with him happily. I knew I was grinning like a teenager. The house was infected with happiness. “Shall we go tell Gail?” I asked Ana. “Yes!” She grabbed my hand as we headed to the kitchen. “Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Grey. Brunch will be ready shortly.” “Did you hear we had some news?” Ana asked. “Well, I did overhear a lot of excitement, Mrs. Grey.” Gail gave a knowing smile. “We’re having another baby!” Ana was in no way getting tired of telling everyone our news. “Oh, congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Grey!” Ana went around the island to hug Gail. “Did you know, Gail?” “No, Mrs. Grey. Well, I suspected. I saw some pregnancy tests in the garbage a few months ago.” “Yes, this baby has been a long time coming.” I put an arm around my wife and kissed her forehead. “Well, I’m very happy to hear the good news.” Gail beamed at us. We all sat down in the dining room for pancakes, eggs, bacon, and more. Questions were flying around the room. When were we due? How far apart would Teddy and the baby be? How far apart were Ana and Kate’s due dates? What did we want to have? Was Ana showing yet? What were her symptoms? “Oh, I really hope it’s a girl so our daughters can be best friends just like us!” Kate squealed. “Me, too.” Ana smiled. Me too, I thought to myself as I pictured a little pink bundle in my arms. “I hope it’s a girl so I can shower her with dresses!” Mia added. “I already have some picked out for your daughter, Kate!” “I hope it’s a boy so Teddy can have a little brother.” Elliot winked at me. We were really bonding as fathers and fathers-to-be. “I hope it’s twins!” My mom put in her two cents, and I felt the color drain from my face at the thought. “I think one will be enough, Mom.” I shook my head, smiling. Ana squeezed my hand. This was how things should have been months ago. We should never have had to go through those months of disappointment. But on the other hand, I knew that we appreciated this little miracle so much more because of what we had been through. Our plates were cleared, and our family began to trickle out, giving lots of hugs and congratulations. Gail finished up in the kitchen and bid us goodbye and congrats. “See you in the morning!” Ana called after her. I shut the door, and my wife slumped into my arms. “Tired, love?” I kissed the top of her head. “Very.” Ana gave a big yawn to prove it. I laughed. “Okay, it’s nap time for the Grey’s.” I grabbed Teddy, who put his head on my shoulder, and helped Ana up the stairs. We all climbed into our big bed for a snuggle. Teddy was out before I even turned off the light, sprawled out on our pillow with a thumb in his mouth and an arm over his head. “Well, he looks comfy.” I smiled. Ana cuddled up around him, her lips to his hair, and I moved in, pressing my front to her back, spooning her. I covered us all with the blanket and rested my eyes. When I felt my wife’s chest rise and fall, I followed suit.Citation: *Some dialogue taken from Fifty Shades Trilogy by EL James; I do not own anything related to Fifty Shades- this is fanfiction only.
