Chapter 29 ~ Requiem
Bianca still knelt before me as looked into her eyes, no longer spell bound by the literal drowning pools that were her amber irises. A somewhat shrill laughter came from Lilith, she ruined the moment. If I wasn't surrounded by a court of vampires and if she wasn't the master of the city I would have shot her. If only."How amusing, do you see the irony in this Jacob?"No I particularly don't, maybe I'm just slow or maybe I just don't give a damn. "No, not really Lilith..."Bianca slowly got up and stood to my right like before, the HP 35 still held in her hand. Most vampires would have gotten rid of the gun, for some reason most of them were technophobic. My 'master' was one of them, but by only three years. Yippee.A smile curled upon Lilith's face, "Your going to solve these murders which are being committed by Voran, who in turn took Bianca away from you... Killing Voran will make the pain go away won't it?"Though I really didn't condone my current feelings, something inside always made me question my motives. I've always tried to keep my personal beliefs out of my professional life, then again my feelings were what had gotten me into this. Yeah I admit it, putting a stake through the heart of Voran would make me feel better. I even had a legitimate excuse to kill the suckhead.I looked into the crimson eyes of Lilith, the whites of her eyes were all but gone. Any other time it would have hindered what I truly wanted to say, but tonight would be different. Maybe the rest of my life would be different as well."Yeah it would, nothing would make me happier then to plunge a stake through his heart, decapitate him and then put his body out into the sun to watch it burn..."Ok a bit to graphic for my current audience, oh well. They'll live with it, heh I made a joke. "Well Bianca, it seems your human servant wants to avenge you. He doesn't even understand the gift that you have."Someone from behind me spoke, I only knew that it was a male. Though trying to hold a concersation when your eyes are only placed upon the master of the city and your master, its kinda hard not to look anywhere else without feeling safe. Yeah safe thats it..."Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe that some of the vampires out there didn't want to become one of you?"Silence, would that be a good thing? Someone else in the crowd spoke."Have you ever thought how it would feel to be one of us? In time everyone who is embraced accepts what they have become. They might even begin to enjoy it."My eyes still locked upon the black and white marble floor."No I have not and I do not wish to ever become one of you, or my skills as a certified vampire executioner would be pointless."More utterings in the ranks, great at least I was beginning to make them talk. If not piss them off.Lilith sighed, "Enough of this Jacob, we know who and what you are. Don't remind us,for most of my court would like nothing better then to tear you apart."I feel so loved. "What's stopping them?" great, maybe I should just shut up.I looked up Lilith, her entire face seductive as her lips curled to form a smile. "I and the agreement with Bianca, besides that there is nothing out there to protect you. Be thankful that your master is so concerned with your well being."Lilith's fingers brushed aside some of the stray strands ofr thr that lay upon Kaysa's forehead, they seemed entranced with each other. Something told me that it wasn't a healthy relationship between them. In time she returned her attention back to me."Would you like to know another thing Jacob?"Do I have a choice? probably not. "Yes I would, though I would like to know why you and your court are being so open to the one that you all call The Slayer."It was a legitimate question and I was curious, hey it's not everyday that you can come into the master of the city's court."Well Jacob or Slayer, whichever. We are doing this to strengthen and make our kind legitimate in the eyes of your culture, no longer do we wish to remain in the shadows. Voran and all those out there that are like him hinder if not stop our progress. That is why, we would rather have you take care of Voran and those like him with your laws. To prove that we understand and accept your judgements."A logiexplexplaination, though something told me there was more to it. If I lived past Voran I guess I would contemplate it more."Thats understandable."Lilith nodded, "Yes it is, though to make this process of finding Voran faster for you. I'll tell you where he is, his day time resting place."She told me where he was located, now why is it that all the rogue vampires make there day time resting places near or on the wharf warehouses? What do they like to have a water side view.I looked up at Lilith's face and tried to read in her facial expressions to see if she were telling the truth, though the act itself would be in vain. I felt better doing it."How do I know that your telling me the truth?""Oh Jacob, never doubt my word. I always speak the truth."Thats what frightened me the most, other vampires would lie and cheat. I could easily be paranoid and get along in my life, though the master of the city only spoke the truth. I just hoped she didn't want me dead."Thank you for the information Lilith. Though I have one more question."Lilith nodded as she continued to move the long pale blond strands of hair on Kaysa, maybe it's just me but I think Kaysa was enjoy it."How old is Voran?""Seven hundred and thirty five years"Shit, that would make him the oldest vampire that I have ever executed. Lilith said it as if it didn't matter when compared to her, I wondered how old she was. I would probably learn in due time, hopefully.I sighed, "Oh this'll be fun.""How so Jacob?" Apparently Lilith didn't catch the hint of sarcasm in my voice, though should I tell her? probably not."Voran will just be the oldest...""Don't be so sure Jacob, those like Voran didn't haven't lived for that long on luck alone."I nodded, I took a glance over at Bianca and then back to Lilith."Can I leave? there needs to be some sort of a plan in place before I go after Voran."Lilith arose from her throne and in a brief second she stood before me, her crimson dress flowed around her as she knelt down, a smile upon her face. Wether she moved there in one fluid movement or it was a mind trick I couldn't tell. Vampires were truly fast."Of course you can Jacob. Bianca..."Lilith arose as she looked over at Bianca, I looked to my right as she handed me the HP 35. I holstered it taking my gaze with it as I wanted to make sure I had it secured.Bianca stood before me as she spoke, "You can stand up now."I placed my hands to my sides, feeling the soft texture of the satin pillow as I pushed myself up in one solid movement, and for the first time I glanced behind me to see that the court was empty. I turned my attention back to Lilith and she as well as Kaysa were gone. Only Bianca remained. All those mind trick and I didn't even detect one. Maybe I was getting a bit out of my league, then again compared to vamps I was out classed."Let's go Jacob."Bianca took me by my right hand and lead me to the hallway, I didn't realize how decorated this whole place was in the beginning. I was just concentrating upon Lilith, maybe that was her plan. The room itself was clothed in dark red satin which went perfectly with the black and white marble floor. The throne itself was the only piece of furniture, well besides the two black satin pillows inwhich Kaysa and I sat upon. I felt Bianca squeeze my hand gently and for the first time in this entire night, I felt as if everything would be alright. Lets just hope it would turn out that way.
