Hope you guys are enjoying the rewrite! I figured the story needed a facelift after a few years. Enjoy!
Hook stalked off towards the ship, dragging a bedraggled but defiant Wendy behind him. She pulled back occasionally when he moved too quickly, or if she stumbled, but for the most part she gave little fight. She was determined to come up with a plan of escape, but knew her chances were nonexistent while she and Hook were on even ground. She had felt the strength in the vice-like grip of his good hand, and saw the easy power of his long strides. With each flash of light that reflected off of his deadly hook, she was reminded that he was a killer and she, just a young woman with no lethal skills. They continued on in silence.
When they reached the boats, Wendy saw many of the lost boys already bound and gagged on other rowboats being taken out into the water towards the ship, who was anchored off the small cove like a bird of prey guards its quarry. Hook shoved her towards an old man, who gave him a look of surprise at seeing the female captive. “Smee, see that this charming little vixen doesn’t escape. I want her locked in my cabin until I return later tonight." With that, Hook stalked off followed by several of his bedraggled looking crew, barking out orders. Smee turned to Wendy when he was out of earshot and said in a surprisingly gentle voice, "Please Miss Wendy, it really is easier if you dont fight him." “You remember me?” She asked, turning to face the shorter man. “Of course my dear. Its been years since Pan has brought you here, but I remember.” Surprised at the compassion and pity that she saw in his eyes, Wendy decided to plead her case to him. "What am I supposed to do, let him keep me here forever?" Smee looked down at his feet, unable to meet her eyes. "It isn’t you that he is really after. Just Pan. You must realize that I hope." "Then why me, are the lost boys not enough?" Wendy battled the tears that threatened to form in her eyes, as desperation crept into her voice. Smee shook his head sadly. "The boys are not enough. He specifically wanted you." "And when he gets Pan? What does he plan to do with me, take me home? I assume there is a better chance he will just have me walk the plank and be done with it." Her voice dripped with venom as she spoke of the Captain, the very man who had once haunted her childhood nightmares. "The captain is nothing more than a man Miss Wendy. As cruel as he may seem, there is still a good man somewhere inside." Smee nervously helped her sit in the boat, and began to row them out towards the looming ship. "Is that why someone like you is here on this ship?" Wendy could not help but be drawn to the older gentleman. He seemed so grandfather-like, so out of place with the group of rowdy criminals that made up Hooks crew. To her comment, Smee only nodded, avoiding eye contact. It was too late though, she had already seen the sadness in his eyes when he spoke of the person that the Captain once was. Unwilling to hear more of the supposed goodness inside of the Pirate Captain, Wendy gazed out over the water and allowed herself to became lost in her own thoughts as they made the trip out to the Roger. How long would she be stuck here? Would she ever get back? Would Peter dare rescue her? and the most alarming of all, would Peter even be capable of rescuing her? As a child, Peter had her full confidence. He was the tireless hero, her own personal Champion that would never, could never lose. To her youthful eyes, he was strong, clever, and brave. Now she saw him for what he really was, a child, too playful, and overconfident. Hook on the other hand, was cunning and sneaky. Lord only knows to what lengths he would go in order to exact his revenge. Wendy's courage began to fail her the closer they got to the ship. The raggedy band of pirates were leaning over the edge, leering eyes fixated on her. She felt like a rabbit that had been cornered by a pack of wolves, their lustful eyes undressing her with every glance. She began to truly fear for her safety aboard the massive vessel with her only allies a bunch of captive children. Smee helped her onto the deck from the boat, and silently ushered her past the rowdy band of sailors into the Captain’s cabin. "What about the boys, I cannot stay with them?" Wendy asked him in an unsteady voice, now becoming more nervous. "They are down in the brig Miss Wendy. Hardly a place for a young woman such as yourself. Down there the crew can come and go as they please." He leaned closer and whispered, "Hook and I are the only two with keys to this room, you cannot get out but no one else can get in". Wendy released a pent up breath. Safe for the moment at least. Smee nodded his goodbye and then stepped outside. The large oak door swung shut with a loud groan, and then came the metallic click as the key was turned.
