Finally, we have round three! Took long enough - I’ll blame work. Anyway, this oneins ins with confusion, remorse, and a little conversation; then ends with predictable smut. I found it a bit harder to keep them both in character this time, I''m curious to hear opinions on that. Again I''ll warn you, if you are looking for something with a clever and well thought out plot, kindly go elsewhere. If, however, your tastes run to things a little more base, you might well be in luck. Enjoy!
Chapter 3.
Her eyes opened on perfect black. ''…I must have fallen asleep''; she thought drowsily, her sleepy brain seizing upon the obvious first. As her eyes adjusted slowly to the dim light around her, a nondescript room was revealed. How had she gotten here? Catti shifted, trying to get her bearings, taking in the plain, sparse furnishings and the bare, plastered walls surrounding her. She forced her sleep-fogged mind to focus on the events that had led her here. There was a dream, disturbing and yet intoxicatingly real all at once. Artemis Entreri was there. Not unusual in itself, as he too-often haunted her dreams, but instead of the usual debilitating terror, the ambience had altered subtly between them into something else. She and he had... Catti came fully awake. No, not a dream. She had been Entreri''s prisoner again and he released her, but instead of leaving she, what? Seduced him? The term seemed insufficient to describe what passed between them. Catti replayed the events of the night in her head, wondering frantically what had possessed her to act as she did, and with Artemis Entreri of all people.
As the facts of the night began to clear in her memory, Catti felt a rising wave of panic well up within her. She slept with Artemis Entreri! Willingly, and more than willingly. Shame and elation warred in her mind as she recalled the pleasure she had experienced at the hands of a man she always thought of as her most loathed enemy. It exceeded all of her past experience, even though that was with two people she loved quite sincerely and unreservedly. Surely, there must something terribly wrong with her to feel such desire for a man she hated? The thought of Drizzt and Wulfgar brought a stab of remorse to her. What would they think of her if ever they learned of this? Although her rational mind instantly relayed the fact that Entreri was not the sort of man to resort to such a petty means of revenge against a rival, the fear that her dearest friends would somehow discover her shameful act remained.
Despite her growing distress she could not deny it had been ... amazing, really. Entreri''s actions with her seemed to be at odds with all that she knew of him from past exposure. The man she remembered never showed vulnerability to friend or enemy alike, never a hint of anything other than the cold certainty of death to whomever it was foolish enough to challenge him. And yet he had with her, though he kept it well contained. Whether due to loneliness or plain carnal desire Entreri seemed to need her just as desperately as she had him when chance put them together so unexpectedly. Yielding to her impetuous proposition alone was proof that something had altered within him.
Where was he, anyway? Had he left while she slept? One part hope and two of disappointment, Catti scanned the room again. Her eyes were drawn to the dim gleam of jewels to her right. Entreri''s dagger still lay where she had seen it last, on the nightstand, with the garish sword propped beside it. So, he was still around here somewhere. Looking past the weapons, she spotted him at last, leaning against the window casement, staring moodily into the obscurely lit evening. His stance was to all appearances relaxed, his face serene and unguarded, but some underlying tension in his features suggested pain to the woman watching. Catti wondered what thoughts or memories passed through such a man''s head in dea dead of night. Surely he had seen enough in his line of work to keep him wakeful throughout the dark hours. Did all the death and degradation of his existence affect him at all, Catti wondered? Although she shared with this man the most intimate of acts imaginable, she found herself no closer to comprehending him.
She felt the heavy knot in her stomach tighten further as she took in the fact that he stood there quite nude, every detail of his finely muscled body painwithwith moonlight. Gods, what had she been thinking? The desire he ignited in her earlier seemed to flare into new life instantly. Catti realized to her dismay that it would not be easily dismissed.
The soft rasp of his voice shook her from the thought. "Do you plan on staring all night, or have you something to say?" The man didn''t move or look at her, but Catti could feel the sudden intense shift of his attention onto her.
Sitting up in the bed, clutching the blanket to her breasts, Catti looked at him sheepishly. What to say in a moment like this, when your worst enemy has just been transformed into your lover, and he has just caught you ogling his all too naked body? "I thought ye might have left..." she muttered lamely, feeling a flush heating her cheeks.
Entreri did look at her then, one eyebrow raised. "It''s my room. " he commented. "Where would I go?"
"Oh...yes." Lowering her eyes, Catti struggled to gather the blankets around her naked body, wincing at the slight ache between her thighs. The pleasantly bruised feeling inside of her was a further reminder of the evening''s activities and Catti felt her blush reach epic proportions under the man''s continuing stare. The need to escape his unwavering scrutiny won out over her many conflicting impulses, and rising, she hastily began to gather her scattered possessions, which lay in a fine concentration all over the room. Spotting her left boot near his feet, she started for it, but tripped on the blanket she held around her. Feeling utterly lost; Catti crouched on the floor, torn between laughter and tears; wondering how one could manage to do both at once. She was startled as she felt a hand grasp her arm, firm but surpassingly gentle. The blankets fell away from her body as she was pulled up to face Entreri.
Catti realized she was shaking. Her blue eyes wide and her lips trembling, she whispered, "Will ye let me go...?" Entreri didn''t looses grs grip. "I don''t know what I''m doin'' here, but I think we both agree it''s time for me to be gone." The assassin continued to watch her wordlessly. Catti bit her lip nervously, turning her face away to escape his stare. After one unbearably long moment, she felt him release her arm. Spinning away from him, Catti hugged her arms around herself self-consciously.
The space between them calmed her somewhat, and after a long moment of continued silence she glanced at the man behind her. The expression on his face set her completely off-balance. In all of her thirty-odd years Catti had possessed one skill that set her apart from her other friends: the intuitive ability to see the thoughts and emotions of those around her with extreme accuracy. And in those years, no person had shown her less than Artemis Entreri. It was the very thing about him that made her so ill at ease in his presence. That changed in the space it took for her to turn back to him. Never had she been witness to an expression of such utter, angry despair; such a bone- weary tiredness of life''s futility. Catti felt a pang of compassion for the man that she never expected. Whatever had set him on the path that led to such sorrow?
The realization that she was looking at him again seemed to bring Entreri back to himself somewhat. In the space of a second, the mask was back in place, his eyes as carefully void of feeling as ever they had been. But she had seen, and he knew it.
"It''s past midnight." he murmured, running a hand through his long hair, as close to a gesture of agitation as he had ever revealed to her. "You seem unprepared to leave and it''s… unsafe to travel at this time of night." he stopped, and she watched him search for words. Apparently communicating with anything other than threats and intimidation was a new concept to him. Again Catti wondered what had left his heart so tainted.
"Are ye asking me to stay?" Catti prompted, confusion darkening her expressive eyes.
" There''s no reason to do anything rash." A slight, sarcastic touch of humor twisting his lips, he added, "Anything else, that is."
He was right; of course, she had nowhere to go. She planned to leave that day and head the short way into Silverymoon, but had been delayed by numerous small and unforeseen difficulties. At the time she ran into Entreri and Jarlaxle, she had been on her way to inform the innkeeper she would need her room another night. No doubt it was rented by now. And though the distance was short, it was plain madness to travel in the dead of night alone unless it was an absolute necessity.
Catti sighed dejectedly. Stooping, she snatched up the fallen blanket and wrapped it hurriedly around herself. Walking the few steps to the bed, she sank down on the edge, staring wretchedly at the floor.
Lost in confusion and misery, Catti was vaguely aware that Entreri was moving about, gathering up his possessions. By the time she lifted her head again to regard him, he was seated in the chair, partially dressed and pulling on his boots.
"Where are ye goin''?"
" Somewhere else." he responded in a flat voice, not looking at her.
Catti looked at him curiously. Was this some attempt at gallantry?
"Ye don''t have to leave."
He glanced up at her then, briefly, before continuing his task."I know."
"I don'' want ye to leave." Catti whispered miserably, realizing to her horror that it was the plain truth. She watched as the man froze, then straighten
to stare at her with raven-dark eyes. The admission lay heavy as a stone between them, and Catti found she could not bear the prospect of yet another staring match with him. Throwing herself on her side, she rolled over in the bed to face the wall, her shoulders hunched defensively against whatever humiliation he would se tse to use against her. Though she could feel his eyes drilling into her, nothing more hurtful than silence came.
Minutes stretched on without any response and Catti''s thoughts began to wander. How could she be such a fool?! One good tumble and she was almost ready to forget who and what Artemis Entreri was. Next she would find herself forgiving him for all the pain he had put her friends and her through - after all, did not the desire to understand frequently precede forgiveness? The man was evil, undeniably and irrefutably: a cold-blooded killer. To think of him as anything else would only lead to ruin and misery. Hate was her only option; the only shield she had to use against him. Why hadn''t she just let him leave? It would have been so much simpler for them both. ''I must be the greatest idiot ever born!'', Catti thought as hot tears began to seep from her eyes and down her cheeks.
Weeping silently, Catti didn’t hear his approach, nor even note the give of the mattress behind her. Her first indication that he was near was the sensation of his hands against her back, warm and slightly rough from constant handling of dagger and sword. Catti willed herself to become stiff as a board, to indicate to him wordlessly that he was unwelcome, but her traitorous body had other thoughts. Instead she found herself arching into the caress. The hands slid upwards to her shoulders, pushing aside the tangled mass of copper hair, and she felt his lips press against the nape of her neck. Catti shivered.
"Please…"she whispered brokenly.
"Please what?" The words where spoken against the sensitive skin of her shoulder.
"Please stop. " It sounded weak even to her.
"No."
How could it be like this? How could this corrupt man reduce her to a state of trembling need with the briefest of touches, his voice alone setting her nerves alight? Any hope of resistance crumbled as one hand slid down her back again and then around to her breast, roughened fingertips coaxing her nipple into a hard and unbearably sensitive point. The other hand brushed upwards, stroking through the hair at her nape, then grasping a handful of it and pushing her head forward and down, giving his lips full access to her neck.
The combined sensation set her senses spinning, drawing a shuddering gasp from her as the man put his tongue and teeth to work. Catti pressed back against his body, realizing as she did that he had had the foresight to remove his clothing again. Apparently he was very certain of her response, confident bastard! Then again, why wouldn’t he be, since she had so clearly shown her weakness? He plainly wasn’t indifferent either; she could feel his growing hardness pressing against her rear. Craving the contact, she parted her thighs a bit and ground back against him, the friction from it nearly sending her over the edge. Behind her, she heard Entreri curse softly.
There was a brief pause. "Get up." he commanded quietly.
"What?" confused, Catti attempted to twist round to see him.
The man slid back and away from her. "On you knees." He instructed.
She did as she was told, rising to her knees and staring down at the man. He lay back for a moment, and Catti could feel her cheeks heating as his black eyes appraised her. Finally, he too rose and moved behind her again. Grasping her shoulders, he guided her onto her hands and knees. Fingertips feather light, his hands skimmed down her back and around the curve of her buttocks, igniting the nerve endings in their wake. Feeling utterly exposed; Catti''s humiliation became secondary as her anticipation rose to a fever pitch. She could feel the heat from his body against the backs of her thighs as he moved in close, his fingers beginning to stroke her swollen and over-sensitive flesh.
Hand ceasing its action, Catti felt it move upwards to grasp her hip. She moaned as she felt him press against her, just a little. The other hand snaked its way up her back to twine in her long hair, grasping it to pull her head backwards, not too roughly.
"Do you still want me to stop?" he asked her quietly.
Catti''s impatience was fraying her already overwrought nerves. Why did he have to ask when it was so abundantly obvious that she didn''t? Ah, but of course, it was yet again about control. Catti found it both maddening and arousing all at once.
"Ye know I don''t!" She whispered desperately.
"Tell me."
Bastard! Catti felt anger mixing with her excitement. Saying nothing, she squirmed against him in an attempt to break his concentration.
Entreri merely tugged her hair in warning. "Tell me." His voice was deadly calm.
Catti drew a shaky breath. "Please." He pressed into her, just a little, and stopped, and Catti felt her weak attempt at defiance go down in flames. "Oh please….Artemis! Please don''t stop! Ah!" He slammed into her hard, forcing her to put a hand against the headboard to brace herself.
Catti had never been in this position before, and she found that as the man moved within her entirely new sensations were produced. His hand on her hip moved around her body and added the stimulation of his fingers to the rest, and Catti could feel orgasm building with amazing speed, the energy of it coiling in her belly, stealing up her spine. His other hand moved downward to hold her in place, gripping her thigh with bruising strength as he continued to pound into her. Entreri''s pace increased, driving her closer and closer to the edge, the pleasure of it making all else nonexistent as she was tossed over. She threw her head back and screamed, completely beyond shame. Even as she did, she could feel the man shudder silently through the intensity of his own release, the heat of it flooding her womb. As one, they collapsed into a sweaty heap.
Together they lay unmoving, neither willing to part from the other with exhaustion ushering them towards sleep. Catti mused wonderingly that his weight, half on and half off her back was not unpleasant; the warmth of his breath along her shoulder and the feeling of his slowing heartbeat against her skin were amazingly soothing. It was her last thought before sleep took her.
