“You can turn around now.” He said. I guess he must have been satisfied that I wasn’t hiding any weapons. If only he knew me, he wouldn’t have bothered to search. “Sooo you just have this one gun that I found in the cookie jar.” He said it with just a hint of a smirk on his face. Great, now people who don’t even know me are laughing at me. I dropped my head to hide the blush that had covered my cheeks and mumbled “Yeah.” Suddenly my thought from earlier returne me. me. How did I get here?
“How did you know where I lived?” I said to them while I retrieved Ben & Jerry and my spoon from the floor. “We got the address off of your drivers license which was in the bag in your car.” The man stated flatly. “Oh.” That’s it Steph, dazzle them with your brilliant conversation. Wait a minute! I don’t even know who these people are and I am worrying about making conversation.
“Who are you? Why did you bring me home? What was that thing?” My voice had steadily risen with each sentence. I was mad now. “What were you doing surveillance on?” The man had asked as if I had never spoken. “How dare you come here and make yourself at home in my apartment and then not even have the decency to answer my questions!” I was on a roll now. “Look if you answer our question we will answer yours.” It looked as if the woman was going to intervene before we had a standoff. “You saw that thing out there. Do you blame us for being cautious?” I guess she had a point. Of course I would have left me out on the street and called 911.
“I was doing surveillance on my skip.” I replied, deciding to trust them. I mean if they were going to hurt me, they could have just done it out there and blamed it on the thing.
“Your skip?” The woman said with a questioning look on her face. “Yeah, my FTA.” Again I got the questioning look. “What is an FTA?” The man just chuckled. “You’re a bounty hunter.” He said it as more of a statement than a question. “Yeah. You got a problem with that?” Man I have to learn to control my temper. “No. Just surprised.” He replied. At that the woman gave him a slightly shocked look. “You were surprised?” Now she was ribbing him. ave ave her a warm smile in return. Then they looked back at me.
