Inca looked at Chris and trilled softly. Chris shook his head, and smiled sadly.
“I don’t want to talk about it Inca. No need in upsetting Sammy here.” Chris said tussling his daughter’s hair. “Come on let’s go find you some food, and me some ice.”
The small group made their way to the kitchen.
Miroku moaned and sat up.
“You’re lucky to be alive.” Kit said. “I’ve never seen Chris so upset. Damian I’m sorry, I insisted that we come here to speak with Chris.”
Damian held up his hand and smiled sadly.
“I had a nice talk with Christopher before you showed up.” Damian said. “I had wished his reaction to Miroku’s jibes did not go as far as they did.”
Keri glared at her brother and sighed.
“Miroku, can’t you just let the past lie there?” Keri asked. “It’s not like he… never mind. You wouldn’t understand.”
“He’s a cheating bastard!” Miroku snapped.
“Like you never cheated on him bro?”
“That’s different.”
“How so?”
“I never got caught.”
Keri sighed again and closed her brown eyes.
“Damian I’m going to see if I can find Chris and find out who this Sam is.”
Keri quickly left the room, and walked down the halls. Damian excused himself from the room and followed the young woman. Keri stopped outside a room and sniffed the air. “They are in there Damian.”
Damian smiled.
“Thank you Keri.”
“I’ll be out here if you need me.”
Damian walked into the kitchen. Chris looked up and winced when he pulled his hand out of a bowl of water.
“Hi dad.” Chris said as he wrapped his hand in a towel.
“I hope you did not hurt yourself when you hit the young fox.” Damian said. “It would destroy your career if you hurt your hands.”
“I’m fine father. I rolled my knuckles with the punch. Anyway I’m going to stop touring for a bit. I need a break.”
Wulf whined and looked at the little girl. Chris chuckled lightly and shook his head. Inca trilled softly as well, and Damian tried his best not to show fear. “Dad Inca won’t hurt you. Wulf let Samantha finish eating her dinner.”
Damian took that moment to look at the young girl silently eating a sandwich. Samantha looked up and smiled softly.
“Daddy can I get you anything to eat?” she asked looking at Chris. Chris smiled and shook his head.
“No hon. How about you, Inca, and Wulf go outside for a bit. I need to talk to my father for little while longer.” Chris said. Inca trilled and held his hand out to the girl. Wulf nudged the young woman and the three walked outside.
Chris looked at Damian while wrapping his hand in a towel. Damian watched the young girl, Inca, and Wulf leave the room.
“I know who Inca is son, but the young girl? Did I hear her call you daddy?” Damian asked turning his attention back to Chris. Chris chuckled lightly.
“Yes you did? And before you ask yes I thought I was infertile. Imagine my surprise when I’m in Atlanta doing a concert and my ex-girlfriend from college shows up with a year old child.” Chris said. “She said Sammy was mine, but before I took her I insisted on a DNA test. When the results came back it was proven Sammy was my daughter. Rachel didn’t want the job of taking care of a dhampire witch cross. I told her I would care for our daughter, but she would have to cut all ties.”
“I don’t think Rachel liked that option Christopher. She always seemed the type who would go chasing after a man with money.”
“She would. However we both went to a lawyer and had a contract drawn up. Rachel can’t take custody of Sammy back at all, and because of that she doesn’t have to pay child support. The lawyer knew I made more than enough money in a year to keep Sammy safe and happy.”
“What do you do for schooling? She’s what thirteen?”
“No she’s eleven. However because I travel a lot and I bring her with me, I have tutors for her, and when I stay in an area long enough I do enroll her in a local school. I don’t want to keep her from other kids.”
“She seems like a nice young lady.”
“She is father. She is a sweet child always trying to help out. She’s pointed out a few flaws in some of the music I’ve been writing lately.”
“How is Inca dealing with her?”
“Inca loves her like crazy. However when Rachel first showed up with Sammy…Inca wasn’t happy. He thought I was going to let Rachel back into my life because of the child. At first he was hesitant around her, but once Rachel left Sammy and Inca bonded quickly.”
Chris smiled softly at the thought. “I wouldn’t trade my life with those two for anything.”
“I know what you mean son. I would not trade the time that I had with your mother for anything in the world.”
“You know I do wish Sammy could know mom. Mom would have loved her.”
“Yes Cat had a big heart for children. I know Cat would have loved your daughter.”
“Dad what would you say if I told you I was considering buying a house in St. Louis.”
“I would be happy if you did that. That would give me a chance to catch up with you and to get to know my grand-daughter.”
“Well about a month before I decided to do a concert here I was looking at houses. I need a place with a large enough yard that Wulf can run around in, and to have a nice life for my small family.”
“I’m sure we can find something for you.”
Chris sighed softly. “What is wrong? Do you not want my help?”
“It’s not that Dad. I don’t want to cause waves for anyone.”
“You’re going to kick Izayoi’s family out of your life aren’t you?”
“I have no real choice. I can’t deal with them father.”
“Ok you can kick Miroku out of your life, but not the others. Kit was like a mother to you.”
“I know. That’s why kicking her out of my life will hurt.”
“Son I can not allow you to destroy your friendships because of one fox.”
“It’s safer for me that way.”
“I see. Christopher I can not tell you what to do with your life since you are an adult, but please consider what you are doing.”
“I will.”
“Good.”
Damian wrapped an arm around his son and pulled him close for a hug. He was glad his son was back and considering staying in St. Louis for some time. He looked at his son and smiled softly. Chris caught the smile and smiled back. He was finally home.
