Chapter Three
///England 120 years ago///
It was a very typical night for Jean-Claude, he had risen with the setting of the sun and had fed both his hungers well. Now he was strolling about the streets of London enjoying the stillness of the night. He came to a stand still though when the darkness was pierced with a bright flash of light. At first, he thought it the glow from a holy item, that is until a body came flying out of thin air and right into Jean-Claude toppling the vampire over. When he finally pulled his head free of the tangle of limbs and cloaks, the vampire found himself staring into deepest pair of brown eyes he had seen in ages. Of course, once he was no longer distracted by the youth's looks he noticed to other things, the younger man tasted of power and off the wolf.
“Sorry about that, gods when I get my hands on Sirius,” the young man scrambled off of Jean-Claude and held his hand out to help him up. A bone white hand slid into a tan one and soon the two were standing up. The vampire had to hold back a small laugh as the other realized just what he was. “You're...you're a vampire,” he managed out in a half-stuttered surprised tone.
“Oui. And you are a werewolf. A young and strangely dressed one at that,” his piercing eyes quickly took him in. He sensed a deep and old pain, but there was more to it than that. “Jean-Claude,” he gave a short bow before dusting himself off.
“R. Remus Lupin,” Remus managed to get out, still trying to shake off the feeling this vampire was already thinking of making a meal of him.
“Remus, a lovely name,” Jean-Claude smiled. He should have been wary of the other man, but he felt strangely at ease. “Come, there is an inn not far from here and your story for there is one to be sure is one not meant for the street.” He held his hand out, gesturing the direction he wanted to head in. There was a moment of hesitation on Remus' face before he nodded and the pair began to walk in silence. Along the way, Remus drew his robe about him more, covering up his attire. The vampire gave a short mental nod at this. The less attention the pair of them drew the better. Within a few short minutes, they were inside the inn. Jean-Claude ordered some wine for them both before leading the young werewolf to a secluded corner.
Remus sat down slowly, never taking his eyes off the vampire while batting down his nervousness. God when he got back to his time, it hadn't taken him long to realize the time difference he was going to shake Sirius silly. That is of course if he could get back to his time in a quick fashion. At least he had managed to stay in London. It would take some time however to get his bearings in this time and get to the Leaky Cauldron. So lost in his own thoughts, he jumped when the wine and two cups were set down. He watched as Jean-Claude filled only one and passed it to him. 'Vampires don't drink or eat remember?' the voice in his head chimed in. “Thank you,” he took the cup and took a quick sip and then let out a sigh. As he let his head hang forward, his hair fell into his face.
“So tell me young one, how is it that you came out of that flash of light. Clearly you are not from around here.” Jean-Claude was right to the point with his question. He watched as Remus lifted his head and took another drink, this one much deeper and longer.
“I'm a Wizard. Well technically, I am still in school, but my final one. I was working on a potion when my lover and his poor sense of timing slammed right into me.”
///
“Poor sense of timing!?” Sirius interrupted Remus who had taken over retelling his first meeting with the Master vampire.
“Yes Sirius your poor sense of timing as illustrated right now. Had you not decided to pounce on me in the middle of mixing that potion and spilling it on me I would not have been hurtled through time and right into the arms of a vampire?” Anita and Jason both laughed softly at this. Remus turned and smiled at Jean-Claude, “Not that I regret any of my time with you. You have been a wonderful friend over the years. I just wish we could have kept more in touch.” There was a small hint of sadness in his tone. He knew what his friend had gone through after the wizard had returned to his own time.
“Think nothing of it mon loup,” Jean-Claude smiled, “You are here now and we have all the time in the world right now to reconnect properly. Richard let out a small snort as he leaned more heavily against the door. Jean-Claude gave the wolf the briefest of glances. Richard would have to get over his problems, because he had no intention of letting the werewolf harm his friend, not that Remus couldn't protect himself, but he was a guest and under his protection. There were times he regretted Richard's place in their lives. If he could break their connect he would. If they were not careful one of these day's the Ulfric's issues and unwillingness to accept certain things would get them all killed. Anita shifted in his lap and he pulled himself back into the conversation she was having with Remus and his lover. He had had the feeling his beloved would, given the chance start asking every question that she could think of.
What she did was really considered a Dark Art in Remus' world, but he had explained to his friend that Anita was far from dark or evil unless the situation called for it. Of course, the fact Remus' condition as it were had marked him a pariah amongst his peers, made the now young man open to the idea that a necromancer could be non-evil.
“Wait if there is a Ministry of magic in England and other parts of Europe why isn't there one in the US?” This came from Jason.
“Actually there is. They gave us clearance to come across the pond and offered to run interference with the British Ministry should they think to look here for us. Harry's earned the right to have a normal life or close to it as possible without all the goddamn hero-worshiping. He can start to be just Harry Potter and not just the “The Boy Who Lived.” Remus picked up one Harry's hands and stroked the knuckles. It was obvious the werewolf cared for the boy.
“If there is why haven't any of us heard of them? I mean everything ad everyone for the most part are out in the open.”
“Because the Wizarding world is very xenophobic and the end of the day. Its irritating enough for some pure bloods that their children have to go to school with half-breeds and muggle; normal people, born children. And from what JC has told me over the years while ahead of the game the US does have its own issues.”
Even Anita nodded at that statement. She looked from the two men down to Harry's comatose form. She more than any of them understood the need to get away from the limelight. As Jean-Claude's human servant and one of the top Executioners in the country, the press was her biggest gripe next to all of the preternatural bad people and girls who always seemed to be popping out of the woodwork whenever things got just too comfortable for the hands of Fate. Looking towards Asher, he saw that his second in command was still watching the trio with interest. Since their arrival, he had been rather quiet and he was curious as to what Asher thought of them. It was obvious at least on Sirius' part that there was some mutual interest as well.
“So what will you do here?” Jason asked. The blonde werewolf was as always rather chipper, despite his Ulfric's glowering.
“Well Remus was a teacher back home for a while and..” Sirius started when Jason interrupted. He looked from Remus to Richard.
“A teacher? They let werewolves teach there?”
“No. When Remus was...exposed if you will, many parents began writing the Headmaster and he lost his position teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. That didn't stop Harry here from making sure he and his friends were prepared though. They met in secret and continued the lessons he had started.” Sirius turned and gave his mate a soft smile. “Why did you ask Jason?”
“Richard is a High school teacher.” It was at this point that several pairs of eyes went back and forth between the two brown eyed and brown haired werewolves. The similarities and differences between them were a bit staggering. Richard had a few inches on him and was more filled out muscle-wise, but everything else was speculative.
The silence was suddenly broken by laughter, Asher's laughter. The scarred vampire just shook his head and continued to laugh.
“And just what is so damn funny Asher?” Richard tried to keep the growl out of his voice and failed. He really didn't see the humor in whatever the hell was going on right now. All he wanted was time with Anita, for her to stop yelling for him and for the newcomers out of his face. Better yet, out of the damn city.
“Nothing you would understand, Richard.” Stepping fully from the shadows Asher gave Jean-Claude and Anita a nod. “I should go tend to things, but we will talk more on this later.” Walking over to where Remus and Sirius sat he gave the pair a rare and genuine smile, though his hair had fallen back into place, hiding his face. “And as for you two. Welcome to Saint Louis. I look forward to getting to know all of you much better.” Nods were exchanged and he turned on a booted heel, Richard moved out of his way if a bit grudgingly and Asher left the office.
“Back to what you were saying Sirius,” Jason spoke once the door had closed.
“Well Remus was a teacher back home, but right now Harry is our focus. We all have more money to live on than we could use in one lifetime, so that won't be an issues.” Sirius stifled a small yawn and laid his head on Remus' shoulder.
“You three are more than welcome to stay as long as you wish, mon loup, you know this. It is obvious you all could use some rest. Jason show them to one of the bigger guest rooms. Tomorrow we can move them over to the Circus” The werewolf was already getting up and opening the door.
“Thank you once again Jean-Claude. We will speak more after some much needed sleep.” Remus thanked him as Sirius got to his feet and pulled Harry into his arms. “It was nice meeting you Anita.” Both men just gave Richard a look as they walked past him and followed Jason who had jumped at the opportunity to go on about Guilty Pleasures. There was the sound of laughter when Sirius exclaimed, “A STRIP CLUB?!”
The door swung shut leaving Jean-Claude and Anita to deal with Richard. The werewolf gave the door one last look before he stormed over to the desk and glared at them both. “Yes Richard? Is there something you wish to speak about?”
“Don't act coy Jean-Claude. How DARE you bring another louki into this city without talking to me first?! Richard wasn't holding back his anger now that they were alone and Anita slid out on Jean-Claude's lap when she felt his body tense. This was one of those times where it was best to be out of the line of fire.
“And how dare you talk to me of things you nothing about Ulfric,” Yep the gloves were coming off now. It wasn't 'mon loup', or 'Richard' or any other pet name. “Remus is an old friend that needed sanctuary and I would be remiss not to offer it to him just to avoid bruising your ego. As long as he is, my guest and that will be for quite some time I suggest you keep your mouth shut. While he and his mate are more than quite capable of defending themselves, I will not allow you to abuse those whom I have given my protection too.
“Using spells and magic to,” Jean-Claude cut him off with a wave of his hand.
“Remy does not need magic to handle you Richard. Do not underestimate him or challenge him or you will be in for a very unpleasant surprise.” Jean-Claude rose from his chair, his eyes never leaving the other man's. “And if when he is done then you will have to deal with me. Or possibly Sirius first. Remus has been through more than you could ever understand and is stronger for it. You were made what you are by accident. He was but a petit enfant when he was brutally attacked out of spite. The difference is that unlike you Remy has made peace with the hand the Lady Fate has handed him.”
He watched as Richard drew up to his full height. With a growl, the werewolf stalked out. Anita looked from one lover to the other, before making her choice. Richard would stand alone in this. Unless they were a threat, she did not intend to make enemies in them. She walked into the vampires open arms. He wrapped those arms around her tightly and inhaled the scent of her hair. Things were not settled, not by a long shot, but they would handle things as they came.
A/N: What is Richard going to step into this time? What is Jason doing with Remy and Siri? When will Harry wake up? All will be revealed. Love! Angst! Anger! Lust! And a really hawt pile of scared pretty boys to boot. Part 4 coming soon.
