Chapter 3
Trouble at the Vampire Ball
I could hear Alice speaking to my mother and father downstairs; she was talking to Edward too. I stretched and got prepared for the day; I showered and grabbed the clothing bag that held my costume for the vampire ball later in the night. I hopped into my car, casting a dark look at the man that looked just like I did. It was a short drive to Lucia’s home and I sat back, watching her get ready. It took her all day to do her hair, her makeup, and get dressed. When she was ready, she put some eye make up on me, causing the green in my eyes to pop. I had already gotten dressed at that point.
“Well how do I look?”
I smiled brightly at Lucia and spun her around.
“You are beautiful Lucia, if I were interested in women, I would throw you on the bed and have my way with you right now.”
She laughed lightly and kissed my lips lightly, spinning away quickly and letting her gown spin out around here.
“Are you ready to go? We have quite a long drive.”
She smiled brightly and I led her to my car. An hour and a half later we were at the large mansion where the Vampire Ball was held every year. I held out our tickets and we entered, my arm wrapped around Lucia’s waist.
I sniffed softly, my eyes darkening a bit, I could smell vampire, and it was the first time that a real vampire had ever attended the ball (other than myself, though I was only half vampire). My eyes locked on him from across the room and my eyes narrowed before Lucia pulled me to the dance floor.
We danced for an hour before my senses flared again, the scent of wolf hit my nose and I looked up, seeing Jacob and my mother along with my aunt Alice, uncle Jasper and…my biological father Edward. A blush graced my face as I saw how Edward was dressed and my heart rate picked up just a bit. I spun with Lucia out onto the balcony, needing fresh air.
I reached out my mind, seeking the minds of my family and I frowned, especially when I came to Alice’s mind. Something bad was going to happen, more vampires were going to arrive and it was going to be a blood bath.
“Perhaps we should leave early Lucia.”
“What? We just got here.”
I turned to her, letting her see the fear in my eyes.
“What is it? What are you not telling me?”
I looked out into the forest that surrounded the mansion.
“I’m half vampire, and I can read minds. That girl…Alice Cullen, the new girl at school, she can see the future. Very soon this place is going to turn into a blood bath, vampires are going to attack.”
I looked at her large eyes.
“We have to leave before you become a victim”
I grabbed her arm and turned, coming face to face with myself.
“Draven.”
“Father.”
Lucia’s eyes widened again. “Wait…you said he was your brother.”
“He’s my birth father, and Bella is my mother, not my sister. That isn’t important right now. At the moment we have to get you out of here.”
“Don’t take the forest; they are coming from that direction. And the guards are not letting anyone outside. How do you plan on getting her out?”
I winced and turned to look at the forest, my eyes getting even darker.
“How long until they arrive?”
“An hour, maybe an hour and a half if they get distracted.”
“Shit.”
“You guys really aren’t joking are you?” Lucia started to panic and I sat her down in a chair on the balcony.
“Lucia, breathe.”
“Vampires at the Vampire Ball, how ironic. Though it would be more ironic if there were werewolves.”
I winced and looked away.
“There is…one werewolf here.”
Lucia started fanning herself with a painted fan, breathing hard. I rubbed her arms lightly, my eyes moving to Edward.
“What are our options?”
Edward looked out over the forest, his eyes shining in the moonlight.
“How good are you at fighting?”
“Oh god we’re all gonna die.”
I frowned as I looked at Lucia. “I’m not really that bad at fighting am I?”
“You couldn’t beat Tommy in a fight and he’s half your size and weaker than you.”
I winced and looked away. “Shit…we’re really screwed.”
“Not quite” I looked up to see Alice, Jasper, Mom, and Dad. Alice had spoken.
“What did you see Alice.”
“They are here because they know about Draven, if he goes to meet them, then they may not come here to feed.”
I stood straighter, looking out into the forest. I didn’t even think as I jumped from the balcony and landed on my feet, running towards the forest. I could hear Lucia screaming my name but soon there was nothing but silence as I got out of earshot.
I soon heard the sounds of pursuit behind me and turned for just a moment to see that Edward was following me.
“Have you completely lost your mind?! What if they want to kill you for being a half breed?!”
“Lucia is important to me; I can’t let her get slaughtered because of me.”
I pushed myself faster, forcing myself to be graceful and not clumsy, my coat flared out behind me as I pushed myself faster and faster. I lost all of my breath when something hard hit me across the ribs and held me still. I fought to catch my breath as I was taken to the ground, hissing and snarling sounding around me.
“Victoria.”
I winced and looked up from where I was pinned under a male vampire.
“Hello Edward.”
“What are you doing here?”
“You killed my mate, so I intend to kill your son.”
I still couldn’t breathe; the weight on top of me was too heavy for me to expand my lungs.
“Matthew…drain the boy.”
“NO!” Edward ran forward but was being held back by six newborn vampires. I looked up at the man sitting on my chest; he had a sick smile in place as he moved closer and closer to my neck.
“ALICE! HURRY!”
So Alice and the others were on their way, but they wouldn’t make it in time, there was no way. I cried out in pain as sharp teeth ripped into my neck. I fought as hard as I could, but I was no use against a newborn. My struggles became weaker and weaker until I was too weak to move. Something large plowed into Matthew, knocking him off of me, and the venom started burning through my veins, intent on killing the last of my humanity. My back arched and I would have screamed if I was strong enough. The world grew black around the edges before fading away completely.

I burned; I felt like someone had thrown me into sun and then set me on fire.
“When is he going to wake up Carlisle?”
“I don’t know, this is the first time something like this has happened. He…may never wake up.”
I wanted to scream at them, tell them I was awake, but I couldn’t move, I felt paralyzed.

I was cool, no longer burning hot. My eyes slowly opened and I looked around, seeing everything more perfectly than I had before. I slowly sat up, a gasp sounding in the corner of the room. Edward came into my view and my mother was right behind him. I looked up at them before frowning.
“Why do you guys look like you’re seeing a ghost?”
“You’ve…changed. You’re eyes are…well more vibrant, pure emerald, and your skin is snow white…You look more angelic as a full vampire than your father does.”
Edward frowned as he looked at my mother and I stood quickly, heading to the bathroom to look in the mirror. I froze when I saw my image. My skin was quite literally as white as snow; my eyes were as green as the forest. My lips had become blood red. I was clearly not human; all that was human in me had died away, being replaced with pure vampire. I was more vampire than my father, than my mom, more pure than any other had been before me. I slid down the wall, looking at nothing, my mind racing.
I, Draven Cullen Black, was no longer a half vampire, but a pure vampire.
And something told me Victoria wouldn’t rest until she had succeeded in ripping me to shreds and throwing me into the fire. I leaned my head back, looking up at the ceiling before closing my eyes.
“What have I become?”
