“Sissy!” Sam squealed, jumping on my at five thirty that morning.
“What is it, Sam?” I groaned and pushed him off my ribs.
“The car is here. The man handed me the key, see?”
“Wha?” I sat up and took the key. I bounced out of bed and gasped. There it was. My Aunt and Uncle were on the porch, admiring it.
“Alright, lets get you ready for school, since were up early and then we can drive around until school, okay?”
“Can we go to Mickey- Dee's?”
“Um, I don't know if they have one here. Maybe we can stop at the grocery store and get some junk, okay?”
“Sweet!” He grinned and zoomed around his room, getting ready. I pulled on my shirt and pants, thankful that I showered the night before. I undid the braid in my hair, brushed it out and then re-braided it. I pulled on my sneakers and did up my pants.
“All ready?” Sam asked me, using his 'girl voice'.
“Your so funny, Sam.” I locked the small lockbox under my bed and pocketed my keys. I slipped the check book and credit car into my back pocket and put my Blackberry and iPod in the back pocket on my backpack. “Ready now.” I smiled and watched him climb down the latter and then I went down.
“Where are you two going so early?” Lucy asked.
“For a drive. Don't worry about dropping off Sammie. I've got it.”
“Okay.” She shrugged and Uncle Rob eyed me as I got into the car and behind the wheel.
“Ready?” I was excited.
“Way ready.” He was in the booster seat that father had had built into the front seat.
“Okay.” I started the engine and grinned when it purred.
“Lets go.” I backed out of the drive and took off like a shot down the road.
“So, do you know where this beach is?”
“The boy said La Push?”
“Okay.” I turned on the Tom- Tom and waited for it to warm up.
“La Push, Washington.” I said clearly.
“Turn left.” The animated voice was high pitched. I turned left onto a partial dirt road and we fallowed the directions. “Stop at La Push national park entrance.” It commanded. I smiled and Sam giggled excitedly in the passenger seat. We stopped and I shut the car off. I grabbed the mag-light from my backpack and slung the small bag of food over my shoulder and helped Sam from the belt.
“I hate that thing. It's stupid.” He pouted, because he couldn't open it himself. I just nodded and closed the door. The lights flashed and I knew the doors had locked. I slipped the key into my back pocket and turned on the light.
“Ready, Freddy?”
“Born ready.” I laughed and we jogged up the trail. It was slightly muddy and I was glad I'd packed us extra clothes and shoes. We soon found a rocky beach and I laid out the blanket. Sam collapsed on it. I typed an e-mail to father and pulled out the orange juice, granola bars, and egg salad sandwiches (Sam's favorite breakfast).
“See, this was better than Mickey- Dee's, right?”
“Way better.” He took a bit of the sandwich and we watched the dark waves close to us.
“Will we be here in the summer too?” He asked as we walked back to the car. It was now almost seven and I'd promised him a drive.
“Of course.” I nodded. There wasn't any way that Father would ship us around the US, just to spend the summer in Florida.
“Hey, do you have your iPod?” He asked then, once we were on the road.
“Yup. Here you go.” He was careful to plug it in and then scrolled down. I turned on the stereo, pretending that I was adjusting the heat. He was smart for a three year old, but he still forgot the basics.
Right- Round by Flo Rida blasted threw the car a moment later.
“Whoo!” Was muffled, but still audible when Sam yelled. I smiled and we drove for what seemed like hours. When eight o'clock chirped on the Tom- Tom, I pulled into the pre- school and signed him in.
“Sissy!” Sam yelled from the coat closet.
“Will you pick me up too?”
“Sure.” I nodded, kissing his forehead and then leaving. The car was nearly silent the whole way to school. I was glad that my father had given me all the lesson's he had. On the way back into town, I drove past Bella's house and she gapped at my car. I rolled down the window and grinned.
“Wanna ride?” I patted the side invitingly.
“Of course!” She ran over, almost slipping in the mud twice. We giggled and she sat in the passenger seat. I'd put up the booster and made sure the velcro and seat belt worked.
“Your father?” She asked, looking around the new car.
“He always gets forty percent off any car.”
“Wow.. this is so cool!”
“I know!” We laughed again and were at the school a little early, but it was nice to be there finally. I yawned up at the clouds and fallowed her in.
“Hurry Bell, I promised to get Sammie from school.” She was sliding her feet. I wondered what was wrong.
“I just get the feeling that that boy, the bronze haired one doesn't like me.”
“Oh, well. I don't think he likes me either. Come on.” I grinned and drove past her house. I pulled down the booster in the back seat and Bell looked at her own.
“I didn't know that car's did that.”
“Like I said, forty percent off and my father.”
“So he designed this car?”
“All of it.”
“This is so amazing.”
“I'm sure that he could get you one too...”
“Oh no, I love my truck. Plus, Charlie would be sad if I didn't use the one he'd gotten for me.”
“Charlie is your dad?” Sammie ran into me then, crying.
“Hey, buddy what's the matter?”
“Alex's mummy said that he wasn't able to come over, 'cuz it wasn't in town..” He sobbed into my shirt. I searched for the little boy. His head was down and his shoulders slumped.
“Well, then I guess you'll just have to keep trying, right. That's what it takes sometime. They have to get to know you first, right.”
“Right.” He sniffed.
“Good, now how about a little Flo Rida and a fast car?”
“Okay!” He bounced in my arms, his tears drying. I grabbed his back pack and coat and settled him into the car. I slipped the seat back into position and then climbed in. I blasted the music in the back and not the front. Bella's eyes widened.
“My father.” I called to her over the music. There was a sort of sound barrier up no. I rolled down the window and that helped some.
I dropped Bella off and waved out the window as I drove toward the beach again. “I don't wanna go!” The music was now turned down enough so that I could hear what he was saying.
“Why not?” I turned it down a few more notches.
“I just don't wanna.”
“You miss daddy?”
“Yes.” He pouted slightly.
“It's okay, buddy. Where would you like to go?”
“Back to the house.”
“Okay.” I did a tight U-turn and we were there in less than five minuets.
We spent the night up in the attic. We snickered when the kids got in trouble for arguing and then got ready for bed. I read him a chapter from my English book, the one I had to read anyway. Sammie had once told me that he liked anything that I read as long as I did the animations. I couldn't help but grin at him as he fell asleep.
