Chapter Three
Broken
“Jacob I really am sorry but I can’t say anything more,” Bella Cullen watched her friend pace with sad eyes. It was only too fresh in her mind the pain she herself had caused him when he had been in love with her and she was going to become a vampire for Edward. Now it was her daughter who had broken his heart and she had no idea she’d done it.
“But Renesmee would have told you what was going on or at the very least how serious it is, you are so close to her.” Jacob was begging, something he rarely did, he was begging for anything that could help repair the cracks in his heart.
“No Jake, I simply can not tell you any more, I understand, I really do but I cant, she is my daughter and her mind is concealed from you as mine is from Edward.” Jacob stopped his pacing and slumped into Charlie’s armchair. Charlie had left them to their conversation some time ago, sensing it involved some of those ‘need to know’ issues he was so careful to avoid.
“This isn’t how it’s meant to happen, with the others they all just fell for each other, it was instantaneous and none of the women thought to question whether they returned the affection. How can she not realise that she loves me more than she feels for that bloodsucker.” Bella bristled at Jacobs old name for them, he hadn’t called a vampire a bloodsucker since just shortly after he imprinted on Renesmee. It wasn’t a good idea to refer to your future in-laws as bloodsuckers.
“Listen Jacob, she doesn’t know what love is, she doesn’t know that she’s supposed to love you, she’s only just reached the appropriate age as it is, let her have her fun and then one day she’ll realise she loves you. Be patient and let her have her youth.” Jacob didn’t reply for long moments, Bella felt every bit of his pain in his silence.
“I know I should Bella, but the thought of him touching her, being with her, having her and what will I do if she falls in love and ends up marrying him or shacking up with him, he’s a nomad you know, you’ll lose her too.” He wasn’t trying to threaten her into doing something, he was resigned to the fact that there was no action to be taken but he was desperately unhappy and he couldn’t think of anyone he could talk to about this. Bella owed him for everything he’d done for her and although he would never ask for anything in return, she felt she owed him her ear to listen in his obvious distress. She heard them arrive before he did, Renesmee had a key for her Grandpa’s house and she let herself in without hesitation.
“Are you sure he won’t mind me turning up uninvited?” Jacob stiffened,
“Of course not, if I like you, he’ll like you.” Renesmee’s voice was chirpy as she answered Bryant’s question.
Bella caught and held Jacob’s gaze giving him a meaningful look,
“Be nice, because you love her.” She whispered it so quietly she knew Bryant would not hear it in the other room.
“Hey sweetheart,” Charlie greeted Renesmee with his usual cheery smile, his Granddaughter, as unusual a she was, was the apple of his eye and had been since the first time he had held her, seven years ago.
“Hey Grandpa, I’d like you to meet Bryant, a friend of mine,” Charlie enthusiastically greeted Bryant, much to Jacob’s annoyance. Bella rose now, it was time for her to be getting back to Edward, they had their cottage to themselves today and she was going to make the most of it.
“Bye Jacob,” she spoke softly but Renesmee heard and danced into the room,
“Jake, Mum,” she kissed Bella on the cheek and flew at Jacob, he fell back against the chair and she kissed him on the cheek, this was the way she normally greeted him when she hadn’t seen him in more than twenty four hours.
“Hey Nessie, you ok?” he asked as she bounded back towards Bryant, in so many ways she was still a child,
“Yeah I’m fine, where’ve you been Jake? It’s been nearly two days since I last saw you.” Jacob shrugged, struggling to keep his glum feelings out of his face.
“I’ve been busy,” he replied, Renesmee raised an eyebrow.
“Too busy to come visit me?” she shrugged, “Anything exciting?” He couldn’t explain why he did it; it was one of those moments people called ‘Verbal Spew’.
“I’ve been seeing someone, a beautiful girl, lives in La Push.” Only seconds after he’d spoken, Bella came back in from the kitchen, horror on her face.
“Oh Jake, that’s wonderful, when can I meet her?” Renesmee crowed, Jacob shrugged, he was trying to ignore Bella’s scowl.
“Renesmee, will you be home tonight?” Bella attempted to pull Renesmee’s attention away from Jake’s new fantasy girlfriend.
“Well, Bryant and I are going to go hunt, then Emmett wants an arm wrestle tournament, he’s still sore that I can beat him as well as you, so I’ll probably stay with Auntie Alice.” Bella nodded thoughtfully,
“Why don’t you stay in our old room rather than with Alice, we don’t use it so you can have it.” Renesmee looked like she was about to reply when she glanced at Bryant and seemed to change her mind.
“Yeah maybe I will; I won’t annoy Alice by keeping her out of her room all night that way.” Renesmee grinned, if only they could have read her thoughts at that moment.
Jacob was consciously aware of the tension in every muscle of his body.
“Well I’m off, I’ll see you around Renesmee,” he didn’t delay his goodbye, two seconds later the front door shut loudly. Bella kissed Nessie on the cheek and followed him as quickly as he had left. She’d have to calm him down all over again now and she owed him a scolding for the invention of his ‘La Push girlfriend’.
“I don’t know what’s got into him,” Renesmee muttered under her breath, she didn’t give it any more thought as she took Bryant’s hand and led him back through to Grandpa, they had originally come to see him after all.
When Renesmee and Bryant left Charlie’s they didn’t stop in anywhere before they went hunting. They delved into the woods with all the joy of a pair of newborn fouls in spring. Running side by side, laughing as they swung through the trees with the wind in their hair, their eyes lingering on each others faces. They caught a glimpse of one of the La Push spirit wolves, Sam, out running for the joy of it or maybe on a patrol. A little further on Emmett and Rosalie joined them, feinting in close and punching Renesmee on the arm before darting off again with laughter which floated back to them in their wake. They were headed a lot further to hunt though and ran on following the river a little way and then jumping it to take a course north towards Canada. They had been running a good forty five minutes and were well away from Forks when they slowed and came to a halt where the forest thinned and a growth of rock protruded from the ground.
“Do you ever get tired?” Bryant asked as he settled against a rock to watch her stretch her muscles out. Renesmee shot him a grin as she balanced on one leg and pulled her other up behind her.
“No, I like to look after my body though, no sense in wearing my muscles away, I am half human so you never know when one day I might find my muscles start to complain at me.” Bryant chuckled,
“No we would not want you to wear your body away,” Renesmee felt her muscles clench and her heart start beating a little too fast at the tone in his voice.
“I love that I can hear your heart,” Bryant had said this too her before, but he spoke it now with an edge to his voice which spoke volumes for what he was thinking as he slouched towards her. Renesmee watched him approach with excitement stirring in her belly; she had what a teenage girl she had once met described as butterflies.
“What is my heart saying to you then?” she asked now, all the time her eyes never leaving his face.
“It’s not saying anything, its just remembering the night we met, on your birthday, remembering.” Renesmee felt her heart flutter again and scowled at his smile,
“Is it now?” she folded her arms across her chest, as if to protect it from being heard.
“So can you read my thoughts as well then?” He was very close to her now; a few more paces would close the gap completely,
“I don’t need to read your thoughts to know what you’re thinking.” She raised both eyebrows in shocked surprise,
“Oh really,” one more pace and he would be pressed close to her,
“Really,” he stepped forward and placed both hands against the rock behind her, keeping her trapped in the circle of his arms.
“You’re thinking how much you would like me to kiss you right now and how much you would like to …” he didn’t finish his sentence, she had leapt on him.
With her vampire strength she knocked him back and he half allowed himself to fall under her onto the grass, narrowly missing a rocky protrusion to their left. She didn’t kiss him and he didn’t kiss her, for long moments they searched each others faces, she read little from his, he was a full vampire and schooled in hiding his feelings, she a half vampire struggled to hide her heart. It was Bryant who moved first, before Renesmee had time to realise what was happening, he was cradling her face in his hands, his kiss searing her lips with a fire which was unquenchable. They rolled down the slight incline till he was on top of her, arms cradling her head from the splatters of rocks and lips plundering her mouth as though she concealed a drug he craved above all things. It had started as a flutter of butterflies in her belly, now it was a fire spreading through her veins like the fire her mother had suffered when she was turned, except this fire was enjoyable.
“Your heart, are you ok?” Bryant had pulled away so suddenly and was cradling Renesmee so gently that for a few moments she was completely baffled.
“I’m fine,” she managed to say, she too could feel her heart, it was beating faster than she had ever known it to in the past. “Why, what’s wrong Bryant?” she asked.
“Well, when I used to hunt humans, their hearts used to beat that fast before I killed them, I thought maybe you were afraid, afraid of me.” Renesmee laughed weakly, she was aware that none of her body apart from her feet was actually touching the ground now, he was cradling her to him so tenderly.
“You have no idea, my heart is beating fast because of you, but not because I am afraid, it’s something entirely different.” For only a fleeting second he didn’t understand, when realisation began to dawn in his eyes he smiled at her. Her heart leaped again and was racing faster than ever as he lowered his lips to hers and traced a hand along her body.
Never had Renesmee known her body to act so completely separate from her rational mind. She began to shiver at every point of contact between his body and hers and as his lips traced her veins down her neck towards her breast, her mouth fell open and the groan she emitted startled her. Dimly she noted the earth under her fingernails as she raked her hands across the ground, she felt the soft grass press against the flesh at the bottom of her back where her top had ridden up slightly. She could feel the breeze blowing coldly over her exposed shoulder and she shivered with the combination of cold wind and sensitive skin.
“Renesmee,” Bryant’s voice was low and husky as he breathed her name in her ear,
“Yes,” she managed to reply,
“Are you sure, because if we go much further I don’t think I’ll be able to stop myself,” Renesmee didn’t answer, she chuckled low in her throat and twisted, sending him sprawling onto his back, straddling his waist she lowered her mouth to his, ripping the buttons off his shirt with such a force she felt the seams groan.
Bryant’s answering growl was low in his throat as he allowed her to nip and suck her way across his chest, tasting his cold flesh and shivering even as she exalted in the pleasure of his body. Bryant ran his hands along her shoulders and down her side as far as he could reach before pulling her t-shirt up and over her head. She moved to accommodate him, letting go of one of his nipples for barely seconds as her pulled the t-shirt off and threw it … into a tree three metres away. She rolled his nipple between her lips enjoying the soft cold skin, her mind being torn away at intervals as his hands traced her now bare skin, tugging at her bra every so often and sending jolts through her aching breasts.
“Just take it off,” she gasped, he had lent forward to lace her neck with kisses, his hands playing with her bra and teasing her nipples under the flimsy fabric.
She didn’t feel the strap break as he yanked; she just saw it fall onto his chest and quickly moved her hands to sweep it away. She was still sitting astride him; she could feel him throbbing even through his trousers and hers. Bryant nipped her breastbone and she yelped with pleasant surprise which bought her mind swiftly back to the man at hand. He was still kissing her throat and she daren’t move now, she sat straight with her neck extended to give him full access to the sensitive areas of her neck, moaning under her breath as he returned her earlier sucking and nibbling. He trailed down and found her nipples, her breath hitching in her throat as he rolled his tongue over her tingling nubs.
“Bryant please,” she whispered it into his hair; her arms were limp at her sides now as she rode the wave of sensations washing through her wilted body.
He rose easily; she never shifted from her position on his waist but wrapped her legs around his body so she wouldn’t fall. He walked her calmly over to a softer patch of grass further into the glade, away from any trees. He laid her gently on the ground, undoing the buttons on her trousers even as his tongue wandered round her mouth, tasting her own individual mix of flavours and scents.
“You are intoxicating,” he whispered it so quietly and so close that she felt it ripple along her skin. “You are breathtaking,” she shivered; his hands were effortlessly sliding her trousers off. “You are eternally beautiful,” she closed her eyes and lay still, she wore only her knickers now and she simply wanted to enjoy the feelings washing through her body, swirling in her senses. He ran one hand very gently along her stomach, his fingers tracing patterns on her warm skin, listening to her heart beat. When he reached her lower waist she raised her leg without thinking and tensed ever so slightly. She was, after all, a virgin and she hadn’t thought twice about giving herself to Bryant, she had met him and like her mother with her father, had been swept away.
When Bryant removed her knickers, with a little more control than before, Renesmee waited, watching his face with trusting eyes and a heart beating fast but with strength. He had slipped out of his trousers and pants at some point when she had had her eyes closed and he knelt before her now with all his glory standing for her. Her eyes spoke more to him than if she had said words. He covered her body with his, forcing her to lay back against the grass as he held himself a little above her body, angling for his position. Renesmee was no fool, she knew sex between vampires could be … explosive. She remembered all too well when she’d wandered in to find Alice and Jasper involved and throwing each other around. But this was calm and gentle and nothing like she expected, he was moving slowly and listening for every nerve in her body to relax before he pushed.
She felt him pierce her with a groan of release, the past half an hour had been preparing her for this and she could not imagine anything else.
“Bryant,” she whispered his name so quietly, he had thrust into her but not moved from there, waiting to see if she would stop him or encourage him. She pushed harder against him, forcing him deeper still until he felt he could have touched her core. She only moaned and pressed harder when he thought to pull away; he needed no more indication and slowly at first, began to move within her. She laced her arms around his neck, fighting to control her breathing and watching his face as he fell into the well of desire. There was not a sound in the glade now but the soft pat of their body parts coming together in the violent rhythm of their love making and their ragged breaths and harsh moans.
It was over far quicker than she had thought possible, he slowed inside her and seemed to force himself, if possible, further into her than before. Her hips rose to meet his, allowing him full access as she shuddered, she could feel warmth inside her as he pulled away.
“Are you ok?” he asked quietly, between short gasping breaths Renesmee felt unable to speak so simply nodded. He lent down to meet her lips in a long lingering kiss, he had taken this innocent half vampire girls virginity with as much care and consideration as possible. The next time he made love to her would not be so gentle but it would possibly be much more fun. Although he wasn’t saying that wasn’t fun, he reflected as he watched her struggling to steady her breathing. Her heart rate had not returned to anywhere near the normal level and he was still surprised that he had caused such accelerated heart rate by passion and not fear.
“That was fun,” she managed with a nervous giggle, he smirked,
“Very fun, you know Renesmee that you should practice having fun, practice it a lot, because it keeps you healthy and alive. So anytime you need some practice I don’t mind practicing with you.” That had to be one of the corniest ‘second shag’ lines she had ever heard mention of but she bought into it anyway and pulled him down to her for another long kiss.
“I think possibly tonight I should practice, if you aren’t free then don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll find someone else.” He growled then, low and long, his eyes brightened by the fresh flair of passion.
“I think I can make it,” Renesmee chuckled at his casual response and melted back against the grass, exhausted.
For a few moments she actually noticed where they are, Bryant had lain himself on the grass beside her and although his eyes were closed she knew he wasn’t asleep, Vampires don’t sleep.
“I was thinking,” Renesmee began,
“Hmm?” Bryant asked,
“What are we going to wear home, most of my clothes are in tatters where you ripped them off,” Bryant laughed, he laughed long and he laughed hard. Until he rolled on top of her again and whispered devilishly in her ear,
“I don’t mind taking you home naked, nice views for the way home.” She hit him playfully and rolled him over a couple of times, both play fighting together between kisses and gentle caresses. He might have been good to go for round two, but he knew she wouldn’t be and he wasn’t going to push it.
So half an hour later they left the glade, the clothes they couldn’t wear in their arms, if someone wandered across them abandoned they might think there had been bear attacks or something of the sort. They didn’t see anyone when they reached Renesmee’s parents cottage, luckily, so they slipped upstairs and found some fresh clothes, one of Edwards shirts lent to Bryant for his decency. When they rejoined the family no one mentioned anything if they had noticed their new clothing. The only person to show any sign of knowing what had happened was Edward, for although Renesmee was very good at hiding her thoughts from Edward, Bryant had no skill in it whatsoever. Every time he looked at Renesmee and thought back to the glade turned Edward a deeper shade of crimson. No comment was made but Jacob had not missed the change in colour on Edward and he could hazard a fair guess as to what he was hearing from Bryant’s thoughts. He sent his thought question out without saying it aloud and was answered by a single nod of Edwards head as he kept his eyes lowered to his piano.
So Alice, Jasper, Emmett and Rosalie continued a discussion, oblivious to any of it, Carlisle, Charlie and Esme were watching the baseball in silence, also completely oblivious. Whilst Bryant, watching Renesmee as she brushed her hair, pondered what he might do to her later and Edward fumbled the keys of the piano in greater horror as every moment passed. Bella and Jacob talked quietly, occasionally glancing at Edward, confused by his suddenly terrible piano skills. So the family continued for the rest of the afternoon whilst Renesmee blissfully ignored most of them, lost in her memories and her hopes for the future.
Hi Hazel, I know what you mean about Jacob, I felt so bad writing it because I always wondered which one I would have gone for had I been Bella, and I was so fond of him.
But never you fear, whether he gets her in the end or not – his fortunes will increase. Hope you liked this new chapter, I rather like it! (But then I would)
