Jett turned his eyes to the younger boy, meeting his gaze first, then the girl’s, ending with Jacob’s. “I’m Jett, of the Hoh tribe, and I sensed you as well. As you may or may not know, our tribes are brothers, united by several marriages, decades ago. Because of such sharing of blood between our tribes, the wolf-blood that is a part of you, is now a part of us.”
Silence. Seth looked a bit surprised at first, then thoughtful. The other two remained blank faced. Allowing them a moment to take it in, Jett continued. “It’s told by our people, that we who lived near the River Hoh, and shared blood with the Quileute, changed. Only some, who were of the bonded families, experienced this change. When our young men became wolves, we realized what must have happened.
Our ancestors gathered those who were wolves, and their families, and left the tribe, to branch off on their own, in order to protect themselves from being discovered. We’ve lived on the north-eastern side of Mount Olympus for many years; now, we return to our home lands, to begin anew.”
“Why now? And what has it got to do with us?” The female had no problem speaking her mind, but Jett found that he admired her for it. Jacob nodded slightly, indicating that he should answer her question, regardless of the fact that she was not Alpha.
“One of the elders of our tribe passed away. He wished to be buried in the lands of his people. I’ve had a deed for these lands since I was born, passed on to me from my family. Such a request simply put into motion the return to our home.” Pausing a moment, Jett simply watched the three.
“I felt your presence for some time now, only barely, but haven’t bothered to venture over here. Coming has honored the last wish of an elder, but it’s also given us a chance to acknowledge each other, others of our kind. I don’t expect a warm, welcoming, home-coming. But know we are here, and these lands are ours; we‘re home. We won‘t prove a threat to anyone, and just wish to live in peace.”
After a moment, Jacob nodded again, and Jett knew it was a silent acceptance of their presence and of Jett himself. “I’ll tell the other pack about you.”
“Are there others in your pack?” Inquired the ever curious Benji, a brown haired youth in Jett’s pack.
“No, it’s just us three.” Was Jacob’s simple reply.
“Isn’t that kind of small?” The other youth, Makai (1), directed a questioning look their way.
“Yup, but we like it being just us. We’re a pack. It just works.” Seth nodded his head with a smile, obviously taking pride in their little group.
“Odd.” The she-wolf flicked her eyes over to Benji. However, before she could get out a retort, Jett interrupted.
“This is Benji.” He looked towards the other curious youth, “And that’s Makai.” Benji was having a stare-down with the girl, while Makai smiled winningly at Seth.
“This is Leah and Seth; they’re siblings.” Jacob didn’t look towards either one, probably thinking that Jett and the other could figure out who was who easily enough.
Dakoda stepped forward a bit from Jett’s right. “I’m Dakoda, and that’s Ehlonna,” gesturing towards the fiery-crimson haired girl next to him, “my mate.” Jett was sure that he needn’t explain to the three that Koda was his second-in-command. And his guess at Jacob’s second, was Leah.
“We’re from the north; La Push. I will tell Sam, the other Alpha, about you. I’m sure he’ll want to meet you eventually. We’ll see. But for now, you probably won’t see much of us.” With that, Jacob nodded in parting, and left, his pack following behind him.
With the interesting trio gone, Makai and Benji were soon engaged in a game of tag, the older boy chasing his companion in the direction of the budding village. Koda and Ehlonna remained with him. “He’s a lot like you Jett. He would be more of a loner, if he wasn’t Alpha. A position I bet he doesn’t care much for, but has just accepted.” Jett knew what Koda was talking about.
Jett had never wanted to be Alpha; it’d just happened that way. Teak, a wise old shifter who no longer phased, told him that he simply had the qualities and personality to be a good Alpha. Jacob was in the same shoes as him, for the most part. Jett had accepted his role, because his people looked to him for guidance.
He’d made peace with it, and found that he enjoyed his life. Though sometimes, when he looked at Koda and Ehlonna, he yearned for something more.

“There you go, two pounds of Red Delicious apples.” The middle aged man behind the booth handed Briar his bagged fruit after accepting the young boys money. Smiling, the brunette politely thanked him, thinking of how much the children of his tribe would enjoy the bright red apples. When the slender youth moved on from the fruit stand, his shadow moved as well.
Brielle, his older sister, had asked that Briar not go into the city alone today. They were new in these parts, and Briar was a young, handsome boy; who knew what trouble he could unintentionally get into. He had agreed, to put her mind at rest, and that’s how the young boy ended up with Dante following him about the farmers market in the west side of Oil City.
The other male stood a good few heads taller than Briar, and was at least fives years his senior. Silky black hair fell past his waist, and was usually worn partially pulled back, sometimes a loose strand falling across his attractive face.
Right now, Dante followed behind him, strong arms at his side, his movements smooth and flowing, keeping out of the main line of people-traffic, but still within distance of Briar. The younger male could sense whenever those black eyes flickered over him, and for some reason, it made him feel safe. Briar knew nothing would ever happen to him when the dark haired man was with him.
Dante had a protective instinct when it came to his sixteen-year-old sister, Kyrie, and they all knew that Dante would give his life to protect her. With the way he acted around Briar, the brown eyed boy thought that that protectiveness must simply have spread to include all those younger than him in the tribe, Briar as well. He knew there was no other reason that Dante had agreed to come today, other than to do a favor to their tribe by looking over one of the ‘younger ones.’
No matter how much he wanted there to be another reason. Shaking his head to chase away such thoughts, Briar continued on his way in the market, picking out more fruits and vegetables to take back to the village. Soon, he was weighed down with his basket as well as additional bags. Briar struggled to keep his grip on a bag that held his red raspberries, without dropping the other bag that contained potatoes and carrots.
He let out a soft gasp when Dante’s large arms came around him from behind, grabbing a hold of several bags and wordlessly lifting them from his grasp. Briar looked at the ground as he straightened himself out, trying to hide the blush on his cheeks. “Are you ready?”
The sound of Dante’s rich, yet quiet voice brought Briar’s warm brown eyes to the taller form next to him. The long haired man was looking off at nothing, his face expressionless, before he lifted it to the sky for a lingering moment. “It looks like it might rain soon. I’d like us to get back before then.”
Nodding his head, Briar licked his lips, shifting his grip on his purchases. “Yes, I’m all ready.” He felt his cheeks warm slightly when Dante’s dark gaze turned his way. Then, before he could protest, the other male had taken a few more bags from Briar’s hands, leaving him with the laden down basket, and the bag of apples.
Watching the long haired man walk away, Briar sighed softly. When he felt the first few drops of rain land on his skin, the brunette quickly followed after Dante, knowing that neither one of them would very happy about getting soaked.

Jacob walked through the trees, quiet, his two pack-mates behind him. That’d gone rather well actually. Good. He didn’t need more trouble running around. There were already the Cullens, who he couldn’t really call trouble, since his future-mate might not like it. They were beginning to feel like family to him; an odd sort of family, but still. Thinking of the Cullens, brought Nessie’s young face to his mind.
“Wow! Can you believe it?! More people like us.” Seth sounded awed and excited.
“Uh-huh.” Leah’s voice was less excited by several degrees. “I’m just glad that‘s over. You’ve been grumpy all morning, Black. You just came back from seeing her. You can’t mean to go back so soon.”
Nessie. The one that his world evolved around. His imprinted, his mate. Jacob hated being away from her for too long. But Bella and her husband, Edward, had taken their daughter, Renesmee, up to Denali, Alaska; to where the Cullens had once lived. The other vampires had paired off, and gone their separate ways for a bit, with plans to meet up together soon. The people of Forks simply left with the idea that the Cullens were all gone on a ‘family trip.’
Jacob had wanted to go. Sort of. He’d wanted to be with Nessie. The wolf hated being away from her, where he couldn't protect her. But in the end, he hadn't gone along. The Cullens weren't the problem. Jacob had grown used to them over time; he'd had to. Honestly, those bloodsuckers weren't so bad; especially Bella. And it wasn't the other vamps, for Jacob had met the Denali coven before, and they weren't a bad lot either. Mostly, it was Edward. This time, at least.
The young wolf had long gotten over his hate of the pale skinned forever-seventeen-year-old. And even his jealousy, since now his heart was Nessie’s. But just before the group had left, Edward and he had gotten into an argument. Jacob didn’t even remember what it was about now. Probably something to do with Nessie, since the two males did still have a clash of opinions now and then when it came to her; one being father and the other future-love-interest.
Knowing that if he went, he’d have to put up with Edward’s moody-ness until it went away, was the first thing that had made Jacob’s decision for him. Add on to that the fact that he’d either, (a) be leaving his pack behind, or (b) separating them from their family for who knew how long, just so he could be with Nessie. Plus, it felt a bit too much like their place. Their old home, with their memories. Jacob could already see Edward holding Nessie as he talked to her in his melodious voice, sharing stories of their past.
So, he’d opted to stay behind. Even if every day without Nessie was like a sky full of grey clouds. At first, the young half-vampire had argued. Then she’d tried to persuade him. Eventually, Jacob talked Nessie into going without him, explaining his reasons and coming to a compromise.
Firstly, Jacob had to call every night; for which the Cullens provided him a cell-phone, Carlisle telling him that it was covered in full, and no trouble at all. Nessie would talk to him for hours, sometimes falling asleep before the end of the call, and Jacob would simply lay in bed listening to her peaceful breathing. Secondly, once or twice a week, one of the Cullens would travel with Nessie to meet Jacob, at some halfway point in Canada. Emmett jokingly claimed that it gave him a reason to give Nessie long, fast piggy-back rides.
Bella didn’t know how long they’d be gone, so Jacob made-do with the arrangement, eagerly awaiting the day when the Cullen house in Forks would be full once more. He’d just returned from a visit this past week, and already it seemed to have been far too long since he’d seen Nessie.
But Leah was right. No matter how much he missed her, Jacob wasn’t going to go running all the way up there to see her again. He could wait a handful of days, and try to not be ‘grumpy.’ Soon. He’d see her again soon. At least he got to hear her voice every night.

(1) Makai is pronounced (muh-keye). Keye rhymes with eye.
A/N ; Okay, that will be the last time Jacob is going to be in the story, until way later. The same with Leah and Seth, but we’ll see. My mind is always coming up with new things. From here on out, it’s mainly my OCs.
