Edward watched as Mike’s parent left the room whispering to themselves. Mike whimpered out and nuzzled on Ed’s hand that was still covering his eyes. Carlisle removed the needle and placed a bandage over the injection site.

“Son, are you going to stay here tonight with Mike?” he asked.

“I think it would be best right now. I can control my bloodlust” Edward replied softly.

“Alright I will be back in later to give him his last transfusion and tomorrow he should be more stable and able to stay awake longer. I can also start giving him morphine to help with the pain” the vampire doctor smiled.

“Good…I’m going to call and see if Bella went to bed yet” the bronze haired teen smiled back as he pulled out his cell.

Bella paced in her room biting on her fingernails. She had only been home for a few minutes. Jasper was outside in a tree waiting until Charlie went to bed. Alice was sitting on Bella’s bed watching the human pace. Finally Charlie went to bed and closed the door to his room.

“Bella please I am begging you, come to bed and go to sleep” Alice whined as she opened the window to let Jasper in.

“Can’t sleep, too stressed” Bella replied as she paced more.

Jasper went over to the CD player and found the CD that Edward had made for the teen. Turning down the volume the vampire went over and picked up the brunette bridal style and carried her over to the bed. Alice pulled back to covers as Jaz laid Bella down. Whimpering, the human teen heard her phone go off. Tucking the teen in, the honey blond vampire went over and answered Bella’s phone.

“Yes Edward I have her in bed and I am about to get her to go to sleep. Alice is here as well. I understand, alright. Goodnight brother” Jasper said as he hung up.

“Edward says that they have Mike sedated to help him sleep tonight and that he is ok. He says for you to go to sleep and stop worrying and making him worry” Jasper smirked.

“You could have let me talk to him” Bella pouted.

“Then that would have kept you up. Now close your eyes” the vampire replied as Alice cut out all of the lights.

Bella whimpered more as she closed her eyes. Jasper sent out calming and soothing waves to help the teen relax and sleep. Alice sat on the edge of the bed and listened to Bella’s deep breathing.

Edward hung up his phone and smiled. Bella was resting and now Mike was as well, the two people he cared about were safe for the night. Holding onto Mike’s warm hand, the vampire let himself relax.

‘Hmm……safe……feels nice……’

The blond haired teen shifted in his sleep and tried to move closer to Edward. The golden eyed vampire leaned over and kissed Mike softly and breathed in his scent deeply.

“Mind over matter, that is all that I have to remember” Edward whispered to himself.

‘Did…did someone just kiss me…??? Felt really nice……better than nice’

Grinning Edward sat back in his seat and watched the TV throughout the rest of the night. Luckily Mike had no more nightmares.

Sunlight filtered into the hospital room, warming Mike’s skin. Groggy, the green eyed teen open his eyes and slowly awoke. He remained calm as he looked around the small room. Edward was sitting in a dark corner and watching Mike.

“Good morning Edward” Mike smiled.

“Good morning Mike, are you hungry?” Edward asked.

“Yeah, starved actually and I don’t feel sick anymore” the teen answered.

“That is great; my father gave you your last transfusion last night and has you on some low dose morphine to help out with the pain today. I will be right back with some soup for you” the vampire said as he stood up.

Nodding Mike reached up and felt the bandages around his head. ‘Still painful but not as bad as yesterday, morphine is my best friend right now’ the blond thought with a smile. Soft music filled the room making Mike sigh. Edward came back into the room carrying a bowl of soup, spoon and some napkins.

“Here you go Mike, vegetable soup for you. Carlisle should be in here later to check up one you” Edward smiled as he set the soup down onto a tray in Mike’s lap.

“Thank you” the blond haired teen smiled back as he sipped on his soup.

Edward went back over to his chair and picked up his cell phone which was emitting the soft music.

“Hello Bella. Mike is awake and eating. Yes he is doing a lot better today than last night. Don’t skip school! No Bella, go to school with Alice and Jasper. I will make Emmett come there and get you. He is safe here. Please Bella I beg you………thank you Bells. See you after school” Edward sighed as he hung up.

“She was going to skip wasn’t she?” Mike asked amused.

“Yes but she needs to go to school. I could hear my brother and sister in the background laughing” the vampire smirked.

“Bella really doesn’t listen but I am hoping that she does listen to you this time. She missed half a day yesterday” the blond sighed as he finished with his soup.

Edward smiled at the teen and nodded. Mike blushed slightly and bowed his head. The bronze haired vampire noticed the blushed and smiled more.

“Hey Mike, do you think we could ever be friends?” Edward asked honestly.

“Yeah we could, I would like to have you as a friend. If it wasn’t for you, Bella and the rest of your family I could be dead. I owe you my life” Mike replied.

“Mike……was that guy your boyfriend?” the vampire asked.

“Yeah, we had been dating for almost a year. It started out great; he was nice to me and cared. After about four months he started to change. We started to get into more and more arguments over stupid things. Then he stood me up on my birthday and went out with his friends to party. He……started to call me a whore and every other name in the book and I took it. Just a month ago we got into a bad fight that was physical because I refused to……service him. He slapped and punched me, I called the law and he was jailed overnight” Mike confessed.

“Are you going to press charges?” Ed gasped.

“I am when I am a little stronger. Edward……I have had turbulent relationships in the past and they all started out as just being my friends……I want to know your intentions” the teen whispered.

“My intentions are to get to know you and let you decide what you want to do. I would never take advantage of you” the bronze haired male answered as he looked into green eyes.

“Thank you, to be honest I am glad that you are here with me” Mike replied with a small smile.

Carlisle walked into room and was happy to see an empty soup bowl on Mike’s lap. Mike rubbed the rest of the sleep out of his eyes as he yawned.

“Hello Mike, you are looking a lot better than last night” Carlisle smiled.

“I feel better and not sick to my stomach anymore” Mike sighed out happily.

“That is wonderful. How would you feel about being wheeled around?” Dr. Cullen asked.

“Anything to get out of this room!!” Mike cried out with a laugh.

Carlisle checked over Mike’s vitals and approved him to be wheeled around. Edward went out into the hall and grabbed a wheel chair and brought it into the room as Carlisle unhooked the I.V. Mike winced as the needle was pulled out of his arm and relaxed to not hurt himself.

“Ok Mike swing your legs to the edge of the bed and hold onto my arms” the doctor instructed.

Nodding the teen did as he was told and swung his legs to the edge of the bed while holding onto Carlisle. Edward came over and wrapped one arm under the teen’s legs and the other around his back. Easily the vampire lifted Mike off of the bed ad carried him over to the wheel chair. Mike blushed more as he was set into the wheel chair.

“Don’t stay out too long but enjoy your time” Carlisle said as Edward pushed the wheel chair out of the room.

“Mike would you like to go to the rooftop garden they have here?” the teen vampire asked.

“I didn’t know they had a garden here, I would like to see it” Mike grinned.

Edward chuckled as he got them onto the elevator. The blond haired teen looked down at his hospital gown and glared at the cloth.

“I really hate these gowns, you can always feel a breeze in the wrongest of places” Mike groaned as he leaned his head back.

“I think women designed them just to make men squirm. At least you got to keep your boxers on, most people free ball it, or so my father tells me” Edward smirked.

“I like my boxers thank you, no one is going to see my no no places unless I let them” the teen replied as the elevator made it to the top floor.

“So tell me Mike, do you think we could ever be more than just friends?” the vampire asked.

“Hmmm……I could see a future like that but I thought that you and Bella were together?” Mike answered as Ed wheeled him around the garden.

“It seems that my heart loves two people equally, I can’t live without those two people, which are you and Bella” Edward smiled.

Mike nodded and closed his eyes as sunlight hit his skin. Edward smiled at the peaceful scene and looked down at his glittering skin. Relaxing, Mike leaned his head on back until it touched Edward’s skin. Tensing up the vampire looked down at the green eyed male. Mike still had his eyes closed and was almost purring.

“I think it is time for us to head back to your room, your parents might be here to visit you” Edward sighed as he pushed Mike back towards the elevator.

“Mmm…ok, I will have to come back up here again. The sun feels nice and it is very peaceful” the blond replied as he kept his eyes closed.

Sure enough as they left the elevator, Mike’s parents rounded the corner.

“Mike, you should be resting” Mike’s father complained.

“Dad, all that I wanted was to see the garden. I’m not tired, my head doesn’t hurt right now and I want to get up and walk but I know that I can’t yet” Mike replied with a frown.

“Mike Newton, don’t take that tone with your father” Mike’s mother said with a scowl.

“Mom……if you both came to just lecture me or worry over me don’t please. I just want to relax, talk with my friends and watch TV and maybe a movie” the teen answered.

Edward stayed silent and wheeled Mike back into his room. Lifting the teen he laid him back in bed and covered him up. His parents rushed into the room as Edward left to wait out in the hall.

“Michael we know that you are in pain but don’t take it out on us, we are all that you have” Mike’s father said as he tucked the teen in.

“I have my friends, Dr. Cullen and the nurses here, not just you. You might be my parents but don’t try to rule my life, it will blow up in your faces. For once I am going to listen to my own heart” Mike growled.

“We know what is best for you! That boy, is he the one making you act like this?!” his mother yelled.

“SHUT UP! LEAVE EDWARD ALONE!!! HE TAKES THE TIME TO STAY WITH ME AND CARE FOR ME WHEN I AM ALONE. HE CHASED AWAY MY NIGHTMARES!” Mike screamed making his parents jump.

“JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!” the teen panted as tears fell.

“You will regret raising your voice at us boy! You are still a child” his father threatened as he took his wife out of the room.

Mike turned on the TV and dully watched it as more tears fell. His parents rushed down to the nurse’s station and demanded to see Carlisle. Dr. Cullen quickly walked up to the fuming parents.

“Dr. Cullen we want it made so that only family members can see Michael. I have nothing against your family but I would prefer it if your son was not allowed near him” Mike’s mother said with a glare.

“I understand but I do not think that is a wise choice” Carlisle sighed.

“You are not paid to think, you are paid to help the patients here” Mike’s father said harshly as he led his wife away.

Carlisle shook his head and walked down to Mike’s room. Edward was holding back his rage.

“Son I know that you are enraged but I have to do as they say. I am going to inform Mike of the changes” the vampire doctor whispered.

“I’m not leaving his side” Edward snarled as he followed after his father.

Mike looked away from the TV and to the two Cullens. He could see the rage in Ed’s eyes and the deep sorrow in Carlisle’s.

“I take it that my parents have done something that is going to hurt my feelings. Dr. Cullen I respect you very much as a doctor but please do not listen to them. They are angry at me right now and I am sorry they are taking it out on everyone” Mike whimpered.

“I know Mike but I have to listen to them unless you as the patient request to have Edward and my family you’re personal protectors in case you are not able to make sound decisions” Carlisle smiled.

“I can do that?” the teen asked.

“Yes, it is like a Power of Attorney but a little different” the doctor nodded as he sat beside Mike.

“I would like to request that but I also want Bella to be included” the blond nodded.

Edward calmed down enough to sit on Mike’s bed and to listen. Mike relaxed on the bed and just enjoyed the company of Carlisle and Edward.
