Jacob
After a lengthy shower together, Ness and I dried each other off in front of the mirror. I rubbed the body lotion she liked to apply nightly into her skin. We were quiet, and I listened to her deep even breathing as my hands, slippery with the lotion, glided over every curve of her body. She didn't need the stuff, her skin was soft enough, but I did enjoy massaging it in whenever she'd let me.
We got wrapped up in the soft and fuzzy purple towels she'd picked out herself. She'd had fun picking out stuff like that for this house, and I'd had fun watching her. I must say, all of our stuff matched very nicely. She'd done a great job.
She sat at her vanity that was built into the bathroom wall, and I carefully combed through her wet hair. I could tell she was tired. Her eyes were closed, but she was smiling.
"That feels so nice," she mumbled.
"Good." I wanted her to feel cherished, and cared for.
She opened her eyes, and met mine in the mirror. "He's gotten so tall. He's passed up Swan again," she said. Anthony had passed up Swan big time, weeks ago. He'd passed up Ness, even. But this was the first time either of us had brought it up, because we knew what it meant. There was no way he was under five foot ten. He was growing every day, right before our eyes. Changing.
"I can't even tell how old he looks anymore," she said.
"Just about old enough to phase is how old he looks," I said, dragging the comb through her curls.
"He's going to soon, isn't he?" she wondered.
"Probably," I sighed.
"You don't want him to," she stated.
"It's not really that. I just don't see how father and son being in each others heads will be a good thing," I said. Ness knew that when you are phased, your every thought and feeling is on display to the rest of the pack. "I don't need to know that Embry takes his morning coffee on the toilet, but unfortunately I do. I really don't want Anthony seeing any part of this last hour, do you? These last few minutes even."
She frowned, seeing my point.
"I'm just gonna have to try not to think of...things that would make him uncomfortable ...when we are both phased. I'd like to avoid us being phased together at all as much as I can. At least at first. I mean, after he's feeling good about it though. Damn it. I dunno," I muttered.
Her eyes raised toward the ceiling, in the direction of the other side of the house.
"He's still awake," she observed.
"I know."
We could feel the tiny vibrations, the only movement in the house, as he paced upstairs.
"He hasn't been sleeping very well. I think he's nervous," she said.
"Probably. But I wouldn't say anything about it, sweetie," I warned her.
"I won't," she promised. She knew what had set me off and caused me to phase that first time. "Do you think I should tell Asa and the girls to give him some space?" I could see the concern for our oldest in her eyes.
Finished combing her dark locks, I set the wide toothed comb back on the counter. "That might be a good idea. Especially our two little instigators." Mollie and Xandra really knew how to push his buttons.
With my lips parted, I kissed her temple and inhaled her fresh, clean scent. I wrapped my arms around her bare shoulders. "Try not to worry about him too much. He'll be okay, he might even like it once he's used to everything."
"I hope so."
I could never tell her this, it would upset her, but when it happened, there'd be nothing she could really do for him.
**January**
"Where are you going, Dad?" Swan asked me, looking up from whatever chick flick she was watching.
"For a run," I told her.
"Hunting?"
"Nah, not today."
"Okay, see you later," she said, turning back to her movie.
"Bye, babe."
I went and found Ness in the laundry room to give her a long kiss goodbye. "You sure you don't need help?" I offered one more time before I left.
"I'm sure I can find something for you to do when you get back," she said, shoving some wet clothes into the dryer. She gave me one more short kiss and said, "I love you."
"Love you. I shouldn't be long."
In the back yard, I ran though the woods until I was far enough away that I wouldn't be seen by anybody. I quickly tied my shorts to my leg, and let the heat roll through my body until I was on all fours.
I let out a loud howl, telling my brothers to phase. I thought of one of our usual meeting places, so as the others popped in one by one, they knew to go there.
How's things? I asked them, once we'd reached each other.
Pretty good.
Not bad.
How's Anthony? Quil asked.
He's getting close now. If we went by his height, it would be any day now. He'd made it to six foot one. He's been very testy. Ness has a pretty serious no swearing rule, and he's been dropping f bombs all over the house like it's going out of style.
I showed them the scene yesterday when he walked into the kitchen, and saw the twins were eating the last of the snack cakes. He'd lost it and started slamming things around, looking for something to eat. After he cussed up a storm and broke a cabinet door, he ordered a pizza, and went to sit on the porch and wait for it. After it came, he sat out there and ate the whole thing by himself.
Those of you who know him well, know that really isn't like him. I'd thought that was it, and he was gonna phase for sure, I told them.
What can we do? Matt asked.
There's a couple of things, that's why I called you guys out. We are keeping a close eye on him, which is hard because he's been keeping to himself a lot. If you happen to be phased when he goes for the first time, if you don't feel me phase right away, it means I'm not with him, so I don't know. I want you to let out a howl I'd be able to hear up in Alaska. That's not a request. Also, that first time, I don't want anybody else in our heads, my voice will be enough. So once I'm in, get out.
We can do that, Seth said. The others nodded in agreement. They remembered how overwhelming the pack mind was at first.
Sharing my thoughts with him is probably going to get very awkward at times. Trust me, I'll be trying like Hell, but there are going to be times where unfortunately he'll see...that his mother and I are very in love.
Frequently.
Just thinking of her, my mind was flooded with an image of her this morning in bed. Things got kind of graphic for a second there. I quickly shook my head back and forth, shaking the picture of her away. None of them reacted, we were used to that happening. That was part of what I needed them to continue to do.
Right, so as I was saying, getting back on track, it's kind of inevitable, so when it happens, just don't react. Try to change our train of thought as quickly as possible, to anything. Your grandma, math problems, anything. If he's gonna be traumatized, let's at least not let in be in stereo.
I told them how I promised Ness that we'd all look out for him. I knew he'd be fine once he got used to everything, but it would make her feel better. When I told her not to worry so much, she'd started responded by saying, "I'm his mom, that's my job."
We went for a short run after we talked. There was the usual chatter going on between my brothers, but I didn't participate, I was thinking about A.J.
Renesmee
On the morning of February first, I woke up before Jake. I woke up needing him. Again. It was convenient that we were both still naked from the night before. I lifted my head from his chest and cradled his sleeping face in my hands. I played with his hair, and started whispering to him.
"Wake up."
He sighed and held me closer, but I could tell he still wasn't awake yet. I ran my tongue along his bottom lip, slowly, then the top. I knew he was awake when he opened wide. As I slid my tongue into his mouth, he rolled us so that I was on top of him.
"Yes," I said against his lips.
"Is this what you want?"
"Yes."
His hand drifted between my legs. "You just woke up?" he murmured as his fingers tickled my folds.
"Yes," I said again.
"And you're all ready for me," he whispered as he slid two fingers inside of me. "God, that's so hot."
I gave a little laugh and sighed as he started to stroke my walls. "It's just because I love you so much," I said.
"I love you, too. So c'mere," he grabbed my hips and moved me back a little so I was right over him. He quickly found my slick opening, and I slid down on him, letting him fill me.
"Oh, God," I sighed again as he pushed me down onto him, forcing himself in deeper, as deep as he could go. He held me down, my thighs were forced apart as I rocked.
He was impatient, and put his hands on my ass, urging me forward. It turned me on immensely that he needed me so much, as much as I needed him. Maybe even more.
I pulled him so that he was sitting up with me, and wrapped my arms around his upper back. I held onto him as my hips moved faster, we met each other over and over.
I became still when a clatter came down the stairs that could only be Anthony.
"Shit," Jake muttered, and dropped his hands to his sides. He knew we were done, even though neither of us was, er, done. Just like when he was little, we needed to keep an eye on him.
"Rain check? For tonight?" I said softly.
"Tonight," he agreed.
As I rolled out of bed he said, "I'm gonna take a shower real quick."
I decided not to ask. "I'll make some coffee, do you want some?"
"Sure, thanks." He kissed my forehead and walked into our bathroom, his shameless erection pointing the way. Whatever he does in there is his own business. Honestly, it's not like I care. If he does, I know he's thinking about me anyway.
If I were to ever do that, I'd think of him.
I think I need to stop thinking about this.
I threw on a long t-shirt, some fresh underpants, and a bathrobe, before I padded out to the kitchen. By the time the coffee was ready, Jake was out of the shower. He sat with me at the table and had a cup.
Anthony was on the other side of the house in the rec room playing some awful violent video game.
"Good morning, sweetie," I said to him, poking my head in.
"Hey," he responded, keeping his eyes on the screen.
Satisfied that he seemed to be in an okay mood, I let him be. I've had much worse responses from him.
As soon as Mollie woke up, she asked if she could go see Seth, as usual. As soon as Xandra woke up, they were both out the door, off to Emily's. Swan stayed busy up in the office all morning.
Jake and I listened when Asa went into the rec room.
"Can I play with you?" Asa asked.
"Sure, but don't get me killed," Anthony said.
"I don't like this one, when they get all bloody on here it makes me kinda thirsty. Does it make you thirsty?"
"Not really," Anthony said.
"I've never had human blood, have you?" Asa asked.
"No, Asa," Anthony said, with a hint of impatience.
"Momma has."
"I know that," he grumbled
Anthony was the one who used to bring me glasses of donated human blood when I was pregnant with all of his siblings. He'd taken great pride in that special job. Sometimes, when I wasn't in the mood to deal with anything, I'd hide in my room and not let anyone in. Except Anthony. Even Jake was banned sometimes, but never Anthony. I missed that sweet little boy so much lately. I knew he'd never be little again, but I wanted the A.J. I knew back. Sometimes I wondered who that tall, moody eating machine was. I just hoped that when his body calmed down, he'd be able to be himself again.
"Let's play bowling instead," Asa suggested.
"Asa, I'm not playing bowling right now," A.J. said.
"But can we? Maybe after you beat just one more level?"
I called out, "Asa, don't pester your brother."
"No. I'll switch games, Mom," Anthony called back. He then said to Asa, "I've already beat this game four times anyway. Just give me a minute."
Since things were calm, Jake said that if I wrote a list of what I wanted, he'd go to the store. So I wandered through the kitchen and wrote down all of the things we were out of, or almost out of. I went through the house asking the kids if they had any special requests, Anthony had several. Once the list was done, I presented Jake with it.
"Looks good to me," he said.
I walked him outside to the car, and gave him a nice kiss goodbye to show him my appreciation for running this errand. I don't mind getting groceries, but I don't really like driving. It's not that I don't know how, I'm just so used to Jake doing it.
Before he left, he made sure he had his phone, and it was on. "Okay, I should be able to get all of this at that warehouse store. I'll be quick. Love you."
"I love you."
Once he'd gone, I went upstairs to use the computer. I wanted to send a few e-mails to my family.
Swan was sitting on the floor, surrounded by piles of books. "Hey, little birdie, what are you getting into?" I asked as I sat down at the computer.
"I saw online that there's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight, and I wanna try to watch it. I can't find what I want to know online, so I'm going old fashioned."
"Very nice. I don't think I've ever seen one, I'll watch with you," I said.
"Okay, cool," she responded, and went back to flipping through the books.
I turned my attention to the computer then, and signed into my e-mail. I had one from Aunt Alice about our investments, all good news there. Even if we dropped everything right now, we'd still have enough money to live comfortably for quite a while.
More dirty jokes from Uncle Emmett. He could at least try and combine them into one e-mail, and save me the time of deleting several at a time.
I opened a new document, and started an e-mail to Mom.
Hey Mom. How's everybody? How is Gabriel doing at school? Anthony's mood seems decent today. I must admit, the calmer he is, the calmer I am.
"Who are you writing to, Mom?" Swan asked.
"Your grandma."
"Tell her I said hi."
"You got it," I told her.
He's downstairs with Asa, they are getting along well today, so I'm glad about that. I'm upstairs with Swan, who says hello by the way.
Jake has been bringing Anthony to hang out with his brothers. Not phased, they just play soccer and swim in the ocean and stuff. It's good for him to get to know them better, as more then just his dad's friends. They'll all be his brothers soon, too.
Anthony just hasn't been himself lately. That's what I hate the most about this, I miss him sometimes.
Love, Renesmee
I hit send, and window shopped for random things while waiting for Mom to write back. She usually did within a couple of minutes. I'm pretty sure Aunt Alice has some kind of special sight for e-mails.
Hi Nessie. Gabriel is doing great at school. There's a cute little redhead who according to Daddy, who sends his love to you guys, has a thing for him! She hasn't made a move yet though. Since your dad likes her, Emmett does, too. Rose is not going to be happy, so we've been staying quiet about it so far.
I hope A.J.'s good day continues. Don't tell Jake I said this, but he was a real pain in the butt right before he phased. So moody, threatening to beat people for no reason, those kinds of things. Anthony will go back to normal. The poor guy just has a heck of a puberty to go through! At least Jake was a little bit older.
Love you, Mom
I hit reply and wrote back.
Mom, take a sneak picture of the redhead, I wanna see her!
I hope you're right about Anthony.
I looked up from the computer as he came into the room right then.
"Hey, Mom? Can you call Dad and see if he's still at the store? I forgot to ask for..." his voice trailed off as he noticed what Swan was doing.
"Swan!" he bellowed, making her head snap up.
"Holy crap, what?"
"What are you doing with my astronomy books all over the damn floor?" he demanded.
I jumped up out of my seat and ignored it as it clattered to the floor behind me.
"You are such a rude brat! You can't ask me first to borrow them? How fucking hard is that!"
"Swan, go downstairs," I said as calmly as I could.
"I was gonna put them away when I was done. Anthony, I'm sorry," she said sincerely. She knew what could happen if he got angry. "I'm really sorry."
"Oh, give me a break!" he spat. "You are so selfish!" Anthony started to shake.
Swan jumped up and started quickly, franticly, putting the books away.
"Swan, no," I said. "It's okay. Go downstairs. I'll put the books away." I took slow steps, putting myself between them.
"Mom, don't! That's not the point! She just doesn't respect anybody else, or their stuff!" he roared, smacking them out of her hand. Now the air around him was shaking, too.
"Swan, just go!" I shouted, shoving her out the door. She must have jumped all the stairs at once. I didn't hear her feet on them, but I heard her hit the floor downstairs. Anthony followed her, and as I ran after them, he cornered her in the kitchen.
"Anthony, relax! I said I was sorry!" Swan cried, her lower lip quivering.
"Aw, are you gonna cry now to get your way like you always do?" he taunted her. "I'm not Dad! So cry all you fucking want!" That of course made her burst into tears. He towered over her, glaring down. She was less then half vampire, and he was about to be all wolf. If he accidentally hurt her, he'd never forgive himself.
I grabbed Anthony's arm and tried to pull him away. "Come on, sweetie. Just calm down, let's go outside and get some fresh air," I said. It was a big kitchen, but if he was anything close to the size of his father, it was about to feel awful cramped in here for him.
"No!" he shouted, shaking me off. "Get away from me!"
I grabbed Swan and hissed, "Call Daddy," as I shoved her out of the room.
"What, so I'm in trouble now?" he asked, smashing his fist through a counter.
"You are not in trouble. I just want you to do one thing for me, come outside with me."
His jaw was twitching, and his body quaked.
"Please, Anthony," I begged.
I ran to the sliding glass door and opened it, motioning for him to go out first.
"Don't tell me what to do!" he screamed. Every vein on his body was budging. He let out the most God awful scream. I'd never heard a sound like that come from anyone. I could hardly keep my balance because it seemed like every particle, ever molecule in the room was shaking right along with him, it was messing with my eyes.
His scream turned into a howl as he exploded into a very familiar looking, gigantic reddish brown wolf. He was almost as big as Jake, a little more brown then red, and I could see he was terrified. The sweet little baby I'd held in my arms was skittering around the kitchen like a frightened animal. Well, he was a frightened animal.
"Oh, sweetie, it's okay. Just...just be still."
He backed into the fridge, and jumped with surprise when his rear end hit it.
"It's okay," I said, even though I was so afraid for him.
He was looking around frantically, barking and howling. His eyes fell on the half opened sliding glass door.
"No," I said as gently as I could. "No, Anthony. You won't fit now." But he jumped towards the door. "Anthony!" I shouted. I dove and tried to grab his fur.
If I can just get him to the front door, he'll fit through that one.
I missed, right as he ran through the opened door that was to small for his new, unfamiliar body. Both panes of glass shattered, and I started to fall right in the pile of shards.
"Momma!" Asa cried from somewhere behind me.
I managed to throw my hands out. I caught myself, but there was glass everywhere.
"Get upstairs, Asa," I ordered him.
"Mom! Dad's not answering his phone!" Swan said, running into the room with her own phone in one hand, and the headset to the house phone in the other. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Stay here with Asa. Make sure he stays upstairs. Both of you." I tried to brush off the glass that hadn't gotten embedded too deeply, and ran though the opening where the door used to be.
"Oh, God," I muttered when I realized how far Anthony had gotten. I could only barely hear him. He was tearing through the woods, whimpering and yipping.
"Anthony, come back!"
I took of running, as fast as I could. I wasn't catching up to him at all. Is it possible that he was even faster then his father?
I ran until I couldn't see him anymore, then stopped and slumped against a tree to catch my breath. I was breathing so hard it was painful.
I tried to hold back the tears as I got my phone out of my pocket to call Jake.
One, two, three, four rings.
"Hey, it's Jake. Sorry I missed your call-"
"Shit!" I hissed at my phone when his voice mail picked up.
One, two, three, four rings.
"Hey, it's Jake. Sorry I missed-"
Why is he not answering! He must not have any reception. That's the only possible reason. I hung up and tried again.
One, two, three, four rings.
"Hey, it's-"
"Shit!"
I cried, feeling so defeated. "Anthony! It's okay, come back!"
I've never not known where my children are. Deep down, I knew that if anything happened to him, he'd heal, but he could still be injured. He was so out of control, it wouldn't take much for him to accidently hurt himself, or someone else. Someone who couldn't heal so easily. What if he ran in front of one of those huge logging trucks? What if he was spotted by humans, what would we do?
This was so much bigger then our little family. I didn't realize til right then, that I couldn't protect him anymore. I was just standing in the middle of the woods, helpless.
"Jacob!" I screamed, hoping maybe he was on his way home and would hear me.
I pulled out my phone again. Fantastic. In all these trees, now I don't have any reception either.
"Seth! Quil!"
If he's faster then Jake, he could be almost anywhere by now.
"Sam!"
I called out until my voice became hoarse and scratchy.
"Somebody has to help Anthony! Help!" I screamed.
A/N: Try not to be too mad, I never do cliffies. Keep that in mind lol.
