I heard a car roar up and saw a limo pull up into the back yard. When the door opened I threw myself into his arms. The limo pulled away. Anton was visibly fucked up I noticed as my arms went around him, his body was thrumming. Miguel and Stellen had left a minute ago and I was glad.
Eric was sitting in his recliner. “Simon told me,” he said quietly. Smoke curled from his mouth as he exhaled. Anton froze halfway to the couch. “You going to kill me?” he sounded almost hopeful. Alcide came down the stairs and nearly ran to stand in front of his cousin. The blonde released a long sigh. “No because besides his aunt and me you’re the only one that he loves, this Eric won’t but black out Eric...” he trailed off and looked worried. Anton sat down on the couch and I sat near him on it. He removed a strange little box that had a dragon made of jade on from his backpack. He took out a big sticky looking black ball and packed an ivory pipe. It smelled like a hippie shop when he lit it. He passed me the bowl and I toked on it without hesitation. I was starting to like drugs, a lot. “Eric you already know that I want to die so whatever,” he said finally addressing what Eric had just said. He sat there and then his head fell into his hands. “If I did that to you there would be no going back,” he said in a strangled way. Alcide bent down and kissed the crown of Eric’s head. He passed the bowl to Eric. “If I could be killed by someone I love that would be wonderful,” Anton said thoughtfully. “Stop being morbid,” Alcide snapped. He passed the bowl to Alcide who took it. “Is this that Turkish hash?” “Yeah.” “Can you get me a couple of pounds of it?” Anton nodded. He seemed lost to me, his face was distant, his eyes dreamy. He was thinking of his death the way most people thought of going on vacation. “Do you believe in hell?” He turned to me with a smirk. “Why you think I’ll be going there?” “Yeah as much as I like you,” I admitted. “I’m not worried about what a bunch of goat herders came up with thousands of years ago.” Eric was watching him. “Actually Jews don’t believe in hell exactly, Catholics came up with that to scare the serfs,” this statement reminded me that Eric was highly educated. He lit another cigarette and wrinkled his nose. “Did you buy some febreeze like I asked?” Alcide went into the kitchen and came back with some and sprayed the house. “I have to quit these things,” he said yet he still hit it again. “What made you start up again?” “Sookie tried to escape and it stressed me out,” he replied. Anton gave me a weird look and patted my leg. “I only smoke when I’m using someone,” he said after a minute. Bitterly but distantly I recalled his chain smoking with his victim. “You haven’t killed anyone lately have you?” He shook his head. “Naw, I only do that once a month or so,” he said casually. I felt repulsed by that. “Why do you do it?” He looked down at his hands. “You heard what I said.” I recalled his words to Darla. “Almost everyone is a waste of space, and I like playing God,” he added. He took a vial from his dress pants and dumped out some cocaine. He had an ivory tube to snort the coke up with. “You know that elephants are endangered,” I said looking at it. “I know that, this thing is nine hundred years old, it belonged to some emperor in some dynasty, I would never buy ivory from modern times.” That comforted me. “Did you know that elephants are the biggest mammals to swim across oceans?” I didn’t know that but thought that was interesting and I said so. Eric came over and nudged me and I scooted over. He bent his head to the powder and did three of the six lines. Rap music was playing in the background, that was another thing I was starting to like. Alcide was staring at us from the doorway of the kitchen. “Anton is a major animal lover,” he informed me. “He gives millions of dollars to help them,” he said sitting in Eric’s recliner. “I like that,” I murmured surprised at this news. Anton looked over. “See I’m not all bad.” Then he looked around at the peeling wallpaper and the saggy furniture. “We need to update this dump.” Alcide looked slightly offended. “I like it like this.” I was getting wired after I did a few lines and felt restless. “Oh by the way the equipment is coming tomorrow afternoon.” “Thanks.” I was bored and I stood up. “Let’s play some hoops,” they followed me out back to the barn. “And no you don’t get dibbs on Sookie,” Eric said as soon as we got in. Anton frowned but he accepted that Alcide was going to be his teammate. Eric put on some awesome rap and it made my every movement feel shady and badass. “Who is this?” Eric answered. “Ghostface Killah.” “I used to be so sheltered,” I said running up the full sized court and passing the ball to Eric. He missed when he went for a layup. I had never played so well and it felt good to move around with the coke heating up my veins. We won and sat in the lawn chairs around the antique table and drank beers. “You could have gone pro,” Eric said thoughtfully. I felt sad at his words but knew it was true. “I could have done a lot of things,” I said looking directly into his cobra like eyes. “True, you had a perfect grade point average too,” Alcide as if remembering it. I flushed at the thought of being investigated. “I knew you were smart,” Anton said like he was proud to know me. I realized that one of the reasons I liked him so much was because he liked me, it was flattering to be liked by someone that hated ninety percent of the world. He looked particularly handsome tonight if plainly dressed. He wore a long sleeve black t-shirt with black dress pants which made his eyes glow like ghosts from his face. I signed to him without thought. “I’m flattered,” I said with my hands. He signed back. “About what?” “Because you like me.” He looked confused but touched. Eric and Alcide watched us. “Anton learned how to do that when he dated Felicia last year,” Alcide said. I felt jealous at the thought of him being with someone else. “How did he know that I knew how to do it?” Anton glanced down at his hands. “I saw your little brother sign that he missed you, it was on the news a couple of weeks ago,” he shrugged. “So I figured that you knew how.” The words hit me in my blood and I felt an ache that was soul deep. He saw my expression and looked unhappy. There followed an awkward silence and Anton seemed uncomfortable, he didn’t like emotions I found after knowing him longer. “Let’s go inside, it’s cold,” he took my hand and Eric’s eyes narrowed. “You know she’s not yours right?” his voice was dangerously low. Anton stopped and let go of my hand. “Yeah I know that.” We went in and I felt Eric’s cold eyes on me as he shut the door. “This infatuation you have with Sookie fucking pisses me off,” he said sitting down and prying open a soup can and dumping some of his poison onto the table. “Why though?” my blonde owner scowled and got a secretive expression. “Because she’s mine and until I tire of that, you can’t ever forget that,” he dropped each word carefully. Anton held his heads up. “Fine I won’t, duly noted.” He went over to the IPOD and scrolled down. I had yet to figure out what kind of music he liked best. A nine inch nails song came on and my best friend smiled and packed another bowl. “Why do you do so many drugs?” He was quiet for so long that I thought he hadn’t heard me. “Because I like to distance myself from everything,” he said softly. “The only drug you don’t do constantly is alcohol, and heroin,” I commented. Alcide gave him a warning look and I remembered what Anton had said about not telling him that I knew about them being raped by Alcide’s father. So he said nothing. Anton stretched out and I felt his thigh touch mine and it was electric. I wanted him and it made me feel all kinds of fucked up things; disgust and hope were the chief emotions. I had thought that after my repeated debasement that I would never desire to have sex with anyone again. But he was my future, he was my way out, albeit into a life as a slave but he loved me. The knowledge made tears gather in my eyes. He got up and changed the song to another one. It was Johnny Cash. “The first time ever I saw your face, I thought the sun rose in your eyes, and the moon and the stars were the gifts you gave. To the dark and the endless sky, my love and the first time ever I saw ever I kissed your mouth, I felt the earth move through my hands like the trembling heart of a captive bird.” I saw Anton wipe his eyes and I felt so destroyed by the beauty of this song and his raw emotion for me. When he had gathered his self-control back and he turned and looked deep into my face. And still the song played, breaking our hearts. AN: OK I need to addresses a rather hurtful but understandable review I received. I’m not a racist, I love all minorities and I have shown them in a positive light in “Into His Web I went” and also I show them in the light that I have known some of them. For around ten years I was a heavy drug addict and I partied with and bought crack and heroin from black guys. I’m white and most of my friends are too, I have just been sharing my experiences with them, which in my mind aren’t negative because to me there is nothing wrong with being a drug dealer or user. Which I know is fucked up. I have in fact often wished to be a black woman as I think they are fucking badasses and they are stunning and strong. Also my last boyfriend was Mexican and he was also a heroin dealer, who I was deeply in lust and in love with. So there’s my defense. While AFF and its agents attempt to remove all illegal works from the site as quickly and thoroughly as possible, there is always the possibility that some submissions may be overlooked or dismissed in error.
